Cheapest Price For Sonicare Adaptive Clean Toothbrush Heads

There is much debate about whether electric is always better when it comes to brushing. For the most part, it is down to personal choice. However, studies have shown, time and again, that electric brushes are more efficient at removing built up material on teeth.
This is the redesigned successor of the above mentioned Essence model. There are some visible improvements, but there are also some gray areas. This newer model costs on average 50% or so more than the older one.
Pursonic is a rather curious brand. Their S520 electric toothbrush is well accepted across all big retail stores in the United States. However, there is very little technical information present, and most of it is found on Amazon, rather than their own website.
Leave your toothbrush head in mouthwash. Because mouthwash is an antiseptic, it can kill germs as well. The alcohol content is lower, however, so leave your toothbrush head in the liquid for several minutes.
The phrase sonic toothbrush is widely associated with Philips. It is done right so, considering that the giant Dutch technology company was the first to introduce the sonic models to the market. However, that was back in 2000. Now, they are not the only manufacturers and producers of sonic oral hygiene products.
A 2014 study published in the Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology notes that an herbal mouth rinse containing clove, tea tree oil and basil reduced the microbial colony forming units, making it an effective antiplaque and antigingivitis agent.
Detail oriented. Dental hygienists must follow specific rules and protocols to help dentists diagnose and treat a patient. Depending on the state in which they work and/or the treatment provided, dental hygienists may work without the direct supervision of a dentist.
The first bacteria to colonize the pellicle after you’ve cleaned your teeth consists of gram positive, rounded aerobic bacteria, especially Streptococcus sanguinis. Within just minutes of initial attachment, the oxygen rich environment inside your mouth causes them to reproduce and grow into micro-colonies. Then, other bacteria join in, notably Streptococcus mutans, one of the main bacterial causes of dental caries. Streptococcus mutans produce an enzyme called glucosyltransferase, which converts sucrose (sugar) into exopolysaccharides. These exopolysaccharides are sticky, allowing more bacteria to adhere.
I thought maybe it was just a design difference and not a performance difference, as the gum health is not very good looking compared to the Flexcare+ and that the 31000 vibrations were what counted, but the gum care model was a big disappointment. Unpleasant noise and lower amplitude at the strokes compared to the Flexcare+ and also the handle vibrated, so more an experience like the Oral B, though I think it is still cleaning better than the Oral B.
• Removes up to 100% more plaque than a manual toothbrush. • Diamond-Shaped bristles sweep away plaque. • Brush head system: Easy snap-on brush heads for optimal hygiene. A brush head that fits multip…
The best electric toothbrush is gentle on your teeth and gums, easy to maneuver, and actually improves your brushing technique. But highly advertised features, like different brushing modes, don’t necessarily lead to healthier teeth and gums. So we consulted dentists and dental research to identify the most effective features available — brushing timers and pressure sensors — and then gathered 16 toothbrushes to test ourselves. We ended up with four models that actually encourage better brushing habits for a healthy smile.
A Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene is typically a four-year program. Students entering a bachelor’s degree program are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent, but many dental hygienists with an associate degree or certification enter the bachelor’s degree programs to expand their clinical expertise and help advance their careers.[citation needed]
Like an associate’s degree, you’ll have to complete prerequisite coursework for a bachelor’s program. While many of your classes—dental anatomy, radiology, dental materials—will be the same whether you earn an associate’s or bachelor’s, the latter will allow you to dig deeper into the profession.
Hyposmia is a partial or complete loss of the sense of smell. It can be disturbing for the individual, but it can also be hazardous if they cannot detect, for example, a toxic gas. Causes include allergies and head injuries. It may be linked to diabetes and multiple sclerosis (MS). Treatment will depend on the cause.
Bacteria tends to grow in dark, warm and moist places. Keeping your toothbrush covered or stored in a closed container might lead to problems. Let your toothbrush air dry in a holder that allows it to stand up without touching the bristles or other toothbrushes. Replacing your toothbrush every three-to-four months is also important. Avoid sharing toothbrushes as well.
It is funny how many of professional recommend flossing, when it is now proven flossing has no benefit or minimal benefit as a part of dental routine! I follow a strict dental care routine, brushing and using mouth wash, but I also dip my toothbrush in baking soda and brush twice a week. I have started using hydrogen peroxide once a week too, I did oil pulling once, do not have the patience for keeping the oils and swishing it around for 10 minutes! . My dentist says he loves . my teeth and gums! , I also make all my own shampoo, skin care, etc. I am sure cosmetic companies hate that too!

The Pro 1000 is rated to last for seven days of brushing sessions on one charge; in our real-world testing, it lasted for 11½ days, which is average for a brush in this price range. Like the more expensive models we tested, the brush survived its drop test, fits in its charging cradle well, and can switch out brush heads easily. Oral-B changes the name of this brush about once a year, but functionally the entire series remains pretty much the same.
It is common for people to take their brushing very seriously, but then completely disregard the need to floss. As dental industry guidelines state, both are required for a high quality dental care routine. While brushing is great for getting at the surface of tooth enamel, a lot of debris and dirt accumulates in the corners. You simply cannot reach this with a regular brush.
Never share a toothbrush. Your mouth needs a healthy flora of its own bacteria, but it’s not good to introduce bacteria from someone else. That’s why Dr. Kahn says you should never share a toothbrush, especially with your children. “That’s when they are acquiring their normal flora,” she says.
Correct teeth brushing remains essential to a good oral health. Unfortunately, many of us rush through this exercise in order to get it done. This way a lot of destructive bacteria remains and slowly causes the formation of plaque and eventually tooth decay.
With a contoured profile to fit your child’s teeth, the standard sized heads are most suited to children aged 7+whilst the smaller compact option are best suited to kids aged 4+. Soft bristles for a gentle cleaning experience helps encourage children to brush for longer and assists in education of the importance of regular cleaning.
There have been studies done that small amounts of germs become airborne from the toilet whenever it is flushed. Due to this knowledge some people store their toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible. Really it only needs to be 2-3 feet away from the mouth of the toilet bowel, and even then it is not proven that the trace amounts of germs collected on the toothbrush will adversely affect one’s health at all. Just to be sure, I would discourage storing toothbrushes on the toilet tank.
Cons: How cheap my boss can be, he doesn’t ever want to spend money on equipment for the office. The commute to work is horrendous. And the stress level is so high because it is a very fast paced office.
The best electric toothbrushes for Senior Citizens. – Elder persons in different age groups, with differing situations, need different features. This page discusses the pros and cons of various models in meeting those needs.

Keeping the Aura Clean Toothbrush in first class condition takes place within the Aura Clean Base Station. Inside is a ring of UV-C light that attacks pathogens from all angles. The Aura Clean Base Station keeps the brush head protected, clean and away from environmental contaminants and also dries the brush head while charging – allowing the brush ready for use when you are.
I was just checking Amazon for the HX6511/50. It has one left and says that this model has been discontinued and replaced by the HX6631/30 model. What do you think? Should I buy the 6631 model instead? Thanks so much
If your battery dies, contact the merchant or store if it’s under a certain period of time to invoke the warranty, but if it’s after an extended period of time, contact the maker (Oral-B, Philips). It’s not unheard of for them to send you a new brush for nothing if your battery dies.
I have used an electric toothbrush for almost 7 years. I have had three total – two Sonicares and the Oral-B recommended in this post. The $$ involved for electric toothbrushes gives me pause but I cannot go back to manual (goosebumps).
Design and features: We asked our testers to try the features of their toothbrushes to see which actually encouraged better brushing technique and which were all hype. For instance, the different brushing modes on the Jim Ellis seemed to differ mostly in sound. Our testers for other toothbrushes agreed that differences in brushing modes felt negligible and unnecessary. Some offered features that our testers found helpful, like how the Philips Sonicare 2 Series automatically shuts off after the two-minute timer to prevent over-brushing. Oral-B models will pulse to let you know your time is up, but they don’t turn off. Which means, if you miss the vibration, you can accidentally over-brush and damage your teeth and gums.
Just a little FYI, make sure you are replacing your brush at least every 4-6 months because the bristles truly are not cleaning as effectively any longer. That’s not just a gimmick to get you to buy a new one 😉 The tips of the bristles become rough & aren’t working the same. Also if your bristles are flayed, then you NEED a new one! You also need to stop scrubbing with so much pressure.
It’s been a couple years since the first app-connected, or “smart,” electric toothbrushes became available, but they still don’t offer enough capabilities for their added cost for us to recommend them for most people. (They’re at least double the price of a standard electric toothbrush.) “Smart” brush capabilities vary widely, but mainly these devices automate the process of tracking your brushing habits, typically by connecting to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth. The most expensive “smart” models, like the Oral-B Genius and Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected can track where the brush is in your mouth.
Hun, there are free dental clinics out there… For free.. They take place annually, you just have to research them. If your issues are extremely bad, go to a hygiene school. The one locally offers discounted dental care. I volunteer for the free clinics every chance I get.
If you want to get rid of excess tartar on your teeth, find the right kind of toothbrush.Toothbrushes come in a variety of styles: from the traditional hand-held brush model to the ultra-futuristic sonic wave and battery-powered toothbrush models. Additionally, toothbrushes can be purchased with soft, medium, or hard bristles. Most dentists recommend soft bristles for people with sensitive teeth and gums. For best results, brush your teeth at least twice a day. The Cleveland Clinic recommends replacing your toothbrush about every four months or when the bristles begin to look worn or frayed. If your brush bristles begin to fan out or spread, change your brush immediately. Purchase tartar-reduction toothpastes at chemists or supermarkets to further fight build-up and cavities.
The Quip is a no-frills toothbrush with a single brush head style and a simple timer that indicates each 30-second interval, shutting off at the two-minute mark. This is the only brush we tested that uses replaceable batteries instead of a built-in rechargeable battery. Quip has an unusual business model—the only way to get a new brush head is through the company’s website, which encourages a subscription that sends a replacement every three months. Though you can purchase individual brush heads separately for $5 with free shipping, if you need a spare head you can’t just run to the store to get a new one. (And you’d better keep spare or rechargeable AAAs around.) The overall pricing structure is a bit confusing, and the store page defaults to the more expensive metal brushes, but toggling the interface gives you access to the slightly less expensive plastic brushes. Although the stylish design (of the more expensive metal model) and the quiet operation are both impressive, we found the vibrations to be weak. The Quip could be a nice option for someone who travels a lot and prefers the freedom of no charger, but it doesn’t have the brush head options or wide availability of our main pick.
As another alternative to Sonicare, you might consider the WaterPik Sensonic Professional Plus (SR-3000). As with the Pulsonic, its features list places it in the same general category as the Sonicare models we discuss on this page.

The demand for dental services will increase as the population ages. As the large baby-boom population ages and people keep more of their original teeth than did previous generations, the need to maintain and treat teeth will continue to drive demand for dental care.
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Dental Hygiene offers a more thorough introduction to the field of dental science by including two years of clinical experience into its curriculum. The clinical component of the degree will train students in oral health assessments, oral disease examination, oral cancer screening procedures and filling and periodontal dressing removal and placement. Some B.S. programs may cover topics such as the administration of anesthetics and dental filling material placement. Some courses address dental science theory and may include:
To protect your enamel and avoid eventually losing your teeth, you need to remove tartar and plaque. Your dentist and dental hygienist do this for you twice a year, a part of which is covered by your dental insurance, but what about the intervening months? These ten clever home remedies can help you get plaque and tartar off of your teeth at home, keeping your smile healthy and white.
It can be pretty tricky to use Bass brushing on this surface.  Unless you have a really wide dental arch (lucky you), it can be tough to get your toothbrush to lay at the correct angle to use the Bass technique as we’ve taught it.
Fiber helps prevent overeating by making you feel full and helps to block fats and cholesterol. High fiber foods include corn, avocado, beans, whole grains, soybeans, lentils, pears, oatmeal, artichoke, peas, apples and nuts.
There is a huge gap beween the brush head and the handle. It’s not flushed, water and toothpaste will get in between and eventually turn into mold. All the brush heads I got with the unit does this too! Is this a manufacturing defect?!
The battery will last around 2 weeks if used twice a day with the Clean mode. We only tested the other modes briefly to see what the difference in power was. Considering that Clean was the hardest mode of the 3, we can assume battery will last the same or longer if used with the other 2 modes. Having said that, it takes 24 to fully charge the battery. That is on average 8 hours longer than other more advanced Sonic toothbrushes.
I used a couple tubes of whitening toothpaste way back then and it had no effect. Once I switched to a Sonicare powered toothbrush using these brush heads, I saw my teeth get a couple of shades whiter
As you may expect, much of a dental hygienist’s job requires working with people’s mouths, and it’s possible that you will come into contact with the occasional patient who has bad breath, swollen gums or tooth decay.
For many years, people have been using baking soda as a cleaning substance for teeth. It is slightly abrasive so it pries and files nasty stuff from the surface of enamel. All you need to do is take (only) one tablespoon of baking soda. Add a pinch of salt. Then, dampen a toothbrush and dip it into the mixture. Clean your teeth as you usually would and rinse thoroughly.
Some of the downfalls to practicing in different provinces are the different regulations. For instance, in BC, the hygienist cannot provide treatment without the patient receiving a dental exam in the previous 365 days unless the practicing hygienist has an extended duty module (resident-care module). In AB, BC, MB and SK, hygienists also administer local anesthesia if qualified to do so.[6][7][8][9] In Ontario, dental hygienists may take further training to become a restorative dental hygienist. Registered dental hygienists must register every year by December 31. Ontario dental hygienists must also prove continuing competence by maintaining a professional portfolio yearly. In Ontario, dental hygienists are registered with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO). [23]

The sonic action, also known as the acoustic streaming action, was first introduced in 1983. Since then it has been improved to produce up to 40,000 brush strokes per minute. At such speed, the energy waves of pressure allow the above-mentioned bubbles and fluid molecules to reach areas between the teeth that are not accessible to bristles. The action of acoustic streaming is arguably said to go some 4mm beyond the reach of regular bristles. Technically, this means that sonic toothbrushes are capable of removing plaque from beneath the gum line.
The biggest problem with the Essence is that you’re severely limited on the style of replacement brush heads. And for that reason the Essence+, while newer and less tested but seemingly the same mechanism, to us seems to make the better choice.
One Concern I have with the high end toothbrush is that the small metal point that you snap the toothbrush on after awhile comes out. It is impossible to re-insert and therefore I have to throw the entire unit out.
The researchers say more work is needed to find out if these two different transcription patterns of inflammatory genes are signs of either two stages of Alzheimer’s, or even two types of the disease.
Students interested in becoming dental hygienists have two primary degree options. A 2-year degree is the most common degree pursued by aspiring dental hygienists, but bachelor’s degree programs are available as well. Students can expect to learn about proper oral hygiene, cleaning techniques, and conditions like gum disease. At both levels of study, students will participate in field experiences at local dental clinics or offices. Some schools offer programs or courses online.

Our research showed that you do not need to spend over $100 in order to get an excellent toothbrush. However, there are some electric toothbrushes that perform better with braces, and some that perform better with sensitive and receding gums. We have reviewed both types for you, to make your choice easier.
My dentist recommended a Sonicare to me after a horrendous cleaning back in late ’99/early ’00. It must have been the top-of-the-line at the time, as it was $90 his price to clients and he said that was heavily discounted. It lasted about 2 weeks between chargings (lithium ion) for years, but has slowly degenerated to requiring almost daily charging. So now I’m in the market for a replacement, and, like other commenters, can’t believe the number of models available! Having gotten great value out of the last one, I’ll definitely buy another Sonicare, probably the HealthyWhite+. Your research and approach are much appreciated, so a big thank you!
Plaque is a biofilm composed of bacteria. It’s literally an enormous mass of tiny bacteria. The individual organisms are microscopic, but when enough of them aggregate together, you get a slimy substance. Plaque formation is a normal, natural process. Soon after you brush, you’ve already started accumulating a “pellicle,” a saliva layer consisting of glycoproteins. This protein layer actually protects your teeth from bacterial acids. However, the glycoproteins also allow bacteria to adhere to the pellicle, leading to plaque formation.
Which one is better? The short answer is, whichever one you are most likely to use twice a day as directed. If you follow your dentist’s instructions and you brush your teeth twice a day for 2 to 3 minutes, you will see positive results.
Employment of dental hygienists is projected to grow 20 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. The demand for dental services will increase as the population ages and as research continues to link oral health to overall health.
Agreed. I did successfully replace the batteries in both of my Oral-B brushes, but it took some de-soldering, cutting, and re-soldering to get the job done. In the end, I was able to use larger capacity batteries, but it was a lot of work. Unless you are handy and/or work with electronics, I don’t recommend it.
However, after spending $10 on a double edge safety razor instead of replacing my dead electric shaver, I decided to splurge and bought an Emmi-Dent Pro toothbrush. It actually is ultrasonic – you don’t brush! It’s by far the best electric toothbrush we’ve ever owned.

In doing this review, did you come across the Ultreo line of toothbrushes? I used to use them back in 2007 or so, but the company went out of business in 2009. I recently came across it again, so it looks like it may have been revived. May be worth looking into it.
All contemporary high-end electric toothbrushes come standard with rechargeable batteries that are charged using inductive charging. Such toothbrushes are not new to the market, however, they have been subjected to continuous improvement based on scientific research. Or, so do large manufacturers want us to believe.
For their study, Fiala and colleagues isolated immune cells from blood samples taken from Alzheimer’s patients and healthy volunteers for comparison. The immune cells they were interested in are known as macrophages: these go around gobbling up waste products like amyloid beta that can otherwise clog up the spaces between cells and interfere with cell-to-cell signaling.
Since our mouths contain bacteria and the bathroom does as well, it’s common to wonder if your toothbrush stays clean enough with just a rinse after brushing, especially since some products now claim to sanitize. Toothbrush sanitizing, however, is not the same as sterilizing. Sanitation means 99.9 percent of bacteria are reduced. With sterilization, all living organisms are destroyed.
All in all, this is a great toothbrush and it is very comparable to the Oral-B’s 7000 series. Philips claims that when fully charged, the battery will last 19 days. When we tested, the battery only lasted 14 days after being charged for 18 hours.
Capable of removing up to 6 times more plaque than a manual toothbrush after 4 weeks use, the densely-packed, and high-quality tufts of bristles found on ProResults Gum Health brush heads help to effectively remove plaque and improve gum health.
Tartar is a hard deposit of mineralized plaque which adheres to any type of tooth surface : enamel, dentin or cement. Your dentist or hygienist are the only persons capable of removing entirely any trace of tartar, leaving a smooth surface after scaling. They will be using an ultrasonic tip which is easy to use and causes no pain for the patient.
I fully agree that the “extra features” are largely useless. But, bottom line, a powered brush makes sense based on everything I have seen. I don’t care if it’s Sonicare or OralB… both should be better than manual…

Most brands, Philips included, have a 90 day grace period. Which means, you can still return or exchange the sonic toothbrush if you realize you have not made the right choice. We strongly advise that you take advantage of this warranty.
On Amazon they have the Deep Sweep 1000 toothbrush listed. Is this the same as the recommended Pro 1000? https://www.amazon.com/Oral-Model-D16-513-U-Oral-B-Toothbrush/dp/B00ARTK9FA/ref=sr_1_11_s_pr_s?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1502422855&sr=1-11&keywords=oral-b+pro+1000
No ordinary brush head though is this.  Thanks to a built in chip, when you fit onto a compatible brush handle, the microchip communicates with the brush handle to launch the optimum cleaning mode and intensity level for the most effective plaque removal experience.
For the purpose of our reviews, we have considered the average toothbrush user who is motivated enough to brush his or her teeth twice a day for two minutes. Also, check out our top toothbrushes for people with braces, where we use slightly different criteria to define “best”.

In order to fully charge, the Pro 1000 took about 16 hours. This is 8 hours less than the Pro 7000 took. It also lasted longer than the Pro 7000 by 2 days (10 days total). Since there is only one brushing mode available, we were not able to play around and conduct different time-based tests.
W3 Premium White – Helps whiten teeth in just 3 days by removing plaque and surface stains. 4 times more surface contact. Automatically selects optimal cleaning mode for the best results. (Best suited to BrushSync compatible handle)
The Dental Hygienists’ Association of Australia (DHAA) Inc., established in 1975, is the peak body representing registered dental hygiene service providers in Australia. A dental hygienist does not need to be employed by a dentist but can independently assess patients and make treatment plans within their scope of practice whilst working in the community. Practising as an autonomous decision maker, and working within the scope of only what they are “formally” trained in. The National Law requires the same level of professional responsibility from dental hygienists, oral health therapists and dental therapists as it does from dentists, dental specialists and dental prosthetists in that all practitioners must have their own professional indemnity insurance and radiation licences. They are also required to complete 60 hours of mandatory continuing professional development in a three-year cycle.[20][21]
To make things easier we have included below the links and product codes (shown in bold) to every type of Sonicare brush head available on Amazon at the time of writing. Overall, the three retailers we recommend checking out are:
Oil pulling is an age-old practice that supports oral health and helps remove plaque from teeth. Extra-virgin coconut oil is great for oil pulling because it is high in lauric acid that has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
Carol, I hope you are feeling better. I’ll say a prayer for you but it’s already a year later so I hope you are doing well. I hear coconut oil and tumeric powder together are also good to brush your teeth with and leave on for 5 minutes, then brush teeth as normal. I do it once in a while, they say twice a week is good.

Serving as the first stop once a patient is called from the waiting room, dental hygienists examine patients’ teeth and gums and report back to dentists about their oral health. While with the patient, they also perform basic dental procedures, including removing tartar, plaque and everyday stains; using fluoride treatments to protect teeth; applying sealants; and flossing extensively. Hygienists also teach their patients about proper oral care, including brushing techniques and the importance of flossing. Depending on the reason a patient is visiting, the hygienist may also take x-rays or molds to help the dentist assess the best plan of care, ranging from braces to root canals.
This is by no stretch of the imagination the most technological electric toothbrush on the market. As a matter of fact, it is quite the opposite. While it does have the patented 3D cleaning action (oscillating, pulsating and vibrating), a functioning pressure sensor and a timer, the 1000 series comes only with one cleaning mode. Despite being short on cleaning functions, we found this toothbrush to be quite effective in removing plaque.

There are actually two HealthyWhite+ models, the other one is the HX8918/10 ($130). It comes with a tongue cleaner brush head. We don’t consider that an important feature. Both models come with a travel case.
If you’ve been thinking about switching to an electric toothbrush that will do the scrubbing for you, we suggest a top-of-the-line brush from Philips Sonicare (pictured below). The Essence Sonic electric toothbrush ($28.60, originally $49.95; amazon.com) is a No. 1 best-selling model on Amazon. And with over 5,000 positive reviews giving this model a 4.4-star average rating, you can feel confident that this toothbrush has been tried and tested to ensure it’s a high-quality product.

Studies, such as the one conducted by the Cochrane Oral Health Group have consistently demonstrated that electric brushing is superior to manual brushing. The above-mentioned research shows a 21% reduction in plaque after only 3 months of using a motor-powered toothbrush. It further claims a 6% reduction of gingivitis within a 3 month period.
We really think that Sonicare did a reasonable job with their app. But from the standpoint of the average person who just needs a good, effective electric toothbrush, it contributes too little at too much cost.

Ok, I am also a hygienist. And for those of you who do not have dental insurance or the money to go to the dentist, the BEST way to reduce plaque and tartar is to brush, floss, and use mouth rinse 2XDay.
There may be more opportunities for a nurse to get a job in a variety of locations but there is also a much higher risk of contracting an illness from your patients which can cause serious health problems for you.

Why: The DiamondClean Smart has some handy sidekicks—its connected app and smart sensor suite. It keeps track of where you brush, where you miss, and where you need to pay more attention. It removes up to 100% more stains in 3 days,** removes up to 10x more plaque* and leaves gums up to 7x healthier in 2 weeks*.
Use a fluoride toothpaste. If your child is less than 7 years old, put only a pea-sized amount on their toothbrush. Seek advice from a dentist or other health care professional before introducing fluoride toothpaste to children under 2 years of age.
The Pro 1000 is among Oral-B’s least expensive models, but it comes with all the features most of our experts recommended, for the lowest price—a two-minute timer (with a nice-to-have quadrant alert) and a wide selection of compatible and affordable brush heads. And recently the Pro 1000 was among the first five electric toothbrushes to receive the ADA Seal of Acceptance. The Pro 1000 has comfortable-feeling oscillating bristles, a simple one-button interface, and a battery that lasted 11½ days with twice-daily use in our tests. The body survived drop tests on the floor and into water. Best of all, you’re not getting overcharged for features like digital monitors, travel cases, or inductive chargers—none of which will actually get your teeth any cleaner than the Pro 1000 can.
In addition to achieving an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from an accredited institution, individuals interested in becoming dental hygienists must successfully pass a state-authorized licensure examination, as well as the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination. Generally, the national examination assesses a candidate’s knowledge of the practice of dental assisting, while state or regional examinations are typically designed to assess a hygienist’s clinical skills.
I am not a dentist, but I do have a powerful story about baking soda. I was visiting my next-door neighbor once, who was in her 80s and she was telling me this story about a time she was in the hospital to have surgery and the nurse said, “Mrs. Boswell, I need you to give me your teeth.” and she replied, “Well, I’d love to except their mine.” And the nurse said, “Now, Mrs. Boswell, you don’t need to be embarrassed. All people your age have false teeth.” My friend replied, “Well, you can try if you like.” The nurse then looked in her mouth and said, “For goodness sakes, those are your teeth!” to which Toggy replied, “I tried to tell you.” Afterwards, she told me that all she used to brush her teeth with her whole life was baking soda. This made more of an impression on me than any other advice could have. And from that day on, I began brushing my teeth with baking soda, and I love it.
The most successful dental hygienists have a blend of skills, credentials and understanding of tools and technologies that allow them to excel in their roles. Take a look at the checklist below to get a better sense of what it takes to thrive in this career.
Simple to replace, click on and off and the ever so useful reminder bristles, that change from blue to white over 3 months are present even on the for kids range of heads, so you or even your child can monitor when it’s time to replace.
Figuring out how or organize school papers is an important task to tackle when your kids start school. If you don’t have an action plan right now, then it’s important to put together a game plan to store these keepsakes. It doesn’t matter if it’s the beginning of the school year, the end of the school year, or […]
High strokes per minute: Electric toothbrushes can move as rapidly as 40,000 strokes per minute. While higher stroke numbers can make an electric toothbrush more effective than a manual brush, Dr. Friedman explained “at some point, extra brushstrokes aren’t really adding any benefits. [Around] 8,000 brushstrokes is enough to achieve the maximum level of plaque removal.” In simple terms, higher numbers look nice, but moving from 8,000 (oscillating) to 31,000 or 40,000 (sonic) brushstrokes won’t really have an effect on your teeth and gums.
On Amazon they have the Deep Sweep 1000 toothbrush listed. Is this the same as the recommended Pro 1000? https://www.amazon.com/Oral-Model-D16-513-U-Oral-B-Toothbrush/dp/B00ARTK9FA/ref=sr_1_11_s_pr_s?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1502422855&sr=1-11&keywords=oral-b+pro+1000
Purchase a UV toothbrush sanitizer.  These nifty gadgets work by combining steam with dry heat to sanitize your toothbrush.  However if you don’t want to shell out the money, studies show that soaking your toothbrush in Listerine works almost just as well.

I like the product very much. I just received it yesterday, but I was having trouble with the connection. The usb did not fit well into the plug provided by the product. The light did not go on, so I knew it was not cleaning the brush. I connected the usb to my cell phone charger plug and it works well. I would like the company to send me a replacement plug, so I don’t have to use my cell charger.
Maintaining good oral health is important for overall health and confidence, and plaque is a common problem facing most adults, even if they brush their teeth regularly. Plaque turns to tartar when left alone; it’s formed by accumulated bacteria in your mouth. You may notice it as a hard yellowish layer, also called calculus, on your teeth. To Remove tartar it usually requires a visit to your dentist; however, you can remove it yourself at home using natural remedies.
In everyday use the Neurora brush head performed almost the exact same as the Sonicare heads. The Neurora brush heads have slightly fewer bristles per grouping so they feel just a tiny bit softer. This was not a significant change to me and I am usually very sensitive to changes. Finally, the fit is nice and tight on the toothbrush handle so no worries of the brush head falling off.

All in all, this is a great toothbrush and it is very comparable to the Oral-B’s 7000 series. Philips claims that when fully charged, the battery will last 19 days. When we tested, the battery only lasted 14 days after being charged for 18 hours.
A state license is required to legally practice dental hygiene in the U.S. Dental hygienists who achieve state licensure are permitted to use the acronym RDH to identify themselves as Registered Dental Hygienists.
We do hope that this page, complete with detailed explanations and brush head comparisons, will answer many of your questions and help you find the right brush head for you and your Sonicare brush. So let’s jump straight in.
One argument in favor of electric toothbrushes is that they do such a good work, that eventually you will save money by not going to the dentist as often. While this is a far stretched argument, there is some truth to that statement. Realistically speaking, a solid sonic toothbrush should be able to keep your teeth in good health. Considering you are using it twice a day with no cheat days. Keeping your teeth healthy can, in fact, lower your visits to the dental clinic considerably.
This brush head simply clicks on and off your brush handle for a secure fit and easy maintenance and cleaning and is compatible with all Sonicare brushes with the exception of PowerUp Battery and Essence models.
Please do NOT believe what you read!!! I work at a dental office as an assistant and have for 17 years, if your teeth look like this you MUST seek professional help to clean your teeth and have good overall health for your body. You can NOT take care of this on your own.
That includes the way it looks (although you can just leave the decorative stickers off), and the way its brushing timer (which you can’t turn off) functions and sounds. If you’re an adult and considering this brush, you really must use the link below to learn more about it so to make sure you want to put up with these features.
That being said, it’s not a hard and fast rule that sonic electric toothbrushes are better than their oscillating counterparts. With modern operating modes and brush head technology, some oscillating electric toothbrushes are equally as efficient.
In order to begin a dental hygiene associate’s degree program, students are usually required to complete a certain number of prerequisite courses with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The topics can range from science to communications:
However, you can Bass brush this surface if you use just the tip of your brush rather than try to fit the whole brush head laying on its side in your mouth.  Using just the front tip of your Bass brush, wiggle the bristles into the gum line along these few front teeth where it’s difficult to get the whole brush head angled correctly.
Replace toothbrushes at least every 3–4 months. The bristles become frayed and worn with use and cleaning effectiveness will decrease.11 Toothbrushes will wear out more rapidly depending on factors unique to each patient. Check brushes often for this type of wear and replace them more frequently if needed. Children’s toothbrushes often need replacing more frequently than adult brushes.
Outdated models – We avoided these not because they are out of fashion, but because they are mostly out of support. It is quite hard to find replacement parts and actual local support for models that the brands no longer manufacture.
Dental plaque is difficult to see unless it’s stained. You can stain plaque by chewing red “disclosing tablets,” found at grocery stores and drug stores, or by using a cotton swab to smear green food coloring on your teeth. The red or green color left on the teeth will show you where there is still plaque—and where you have to brush again to remove it.

Dental hygienists have a specific role to play in dentist’s offices, and they will essentially be repeating the same tasks in the same environment every day. While your work may vary slightly between patients, you’ll mostly be cleaning teeth all day.
The Pro 1000 series has a charging indicator, a low-battery indicator, and a simple closed charging system that allows you to just drop the brush in place, much like this one found on the Deep Sweep model. Photo: Casey Johnston
You brush your teeth twice a day and floss regularly, but when you get to the dentist, you find out that your teeth still require excessive scraping and cleaning to remove tartar. If you’re tired of spending so much time in the dental chair for cleanings, Sonicare can help you improve the effectiveness of your at-home oral hygiene routine to benefit the health of your teeth and gums. By producing thousands of sonic vibrations per second, Sonicare toothbrush heads can remove more plaque than what most people can lift away with a manual brush. Because plaque is the substance that hardens into tartar, a Sonicare brush can help you enjoy quicker trips to the dentist as well as a cleaner smile and healthier gums. The Sonicare collection is recommended by dentists all over the country and has been helping people improve their oral health since 1992. You can find all of the most popular brush heads for Sonicare power toothbrushes in the brush head collection at Walgreens.
This mini-cabinet is big enough for up to 5 toothbrushes or toothbrush heads. Or swap one of those and you can put your razor in here too! You can power it by either batteries (4 x AA) or using the included AC adapter. You can use it on a counter, but it is much better attached to a wall (make sure you mount it properly level for the door to work correctly). The UV light is switched on automatically on closing the door, so as soon as you return your toothbrush it gets zapped. Then the light also automatically activates every 6 hours through the day too. It only runs for 9 minutes each time though so it uses the tiniest amount of electricity – and the UV bulb is rated for 20,000 hours too, so that’s a lot of 9 minute cycles!
Our toothbrushes end up in his mouth, on the floor, behind furniture…you get the idea. Germs from all over the house end up on our toothbrushes. If we replaced our toothbrushes every day, we would go broke. So, we learned to do the next best thing…disinfect them.
I would only use this method as a last resort. But, you can disinfect your toothbrush in the microwave. I’ve tried it before with success but I would watch the toothbrush VERY closely! Depending on the material it’s made out of, it could melt…so keep your eyes on it like a hawk. Wet the toothbrush bristles and microwave for 10 or so seconds.
Thank you for this no nonsense comparison. I don’t need toothbrushes with LCD readouts and 5 different settings. Simpler is better. Because of this article I am getting the EasyClean. After 10 years with my basic Essence model, I need an upgrade and the DiamondClean brush heads will be an improvement too. Again, thank you so much!
This can be a very strange experience, because the dentist moves in close and uses a special scraping instrument to, literally, force the plaque from the teeth. They tend to focus particularly hard on areas where the tarter has begun to form calcified spots. These can be seen a little white or yellow marks on the outer surface of the enamel.
Two-minute timer: The single most recommended feature, a two-minute timer takes the guesswork out of your brushing sessions to ensure your teeth get enough time under the bristles. Brushing under the American Dental Association’s recommended two minutes can result in a less effective clean. Dr. Lawlor told us, “patients say they brush for three to five minutes, but when they brush in front of me it will be less than a minute.” Most electric toothbrushes now offer this reality-check timer as a standard feature, regardless of price.
For the longest time I was convinced that these replacement heads (“E-series”) would not fit my old Sonicare brush base, which I think dates from before 2007. It is the kind where the brush head is perfectly veritical (no angle). From the Sonicare pictures I now think maybe it is one of the “Advance” series – I can’t tell from the markings on the brush base itself, and the packaging is long gone. (See photos I have posted which shows the old base and head.)
High school students interested in becoming dental hygienists should take courses in biology, chemistry, and math. Most dental hygiene programs also require applicants to complete prerequisites, which often include college-level courses. Specific requirements vary by school.

Brush heads wear out over time, and as they do, they become less effective and can possibly harm your teeth and gums. As such, heads need to be replaced every three to six months on average. In general, basic heads are more affordable, while specialty heads for braces, sensitive teeth and whitening are more expensive. Brush heads can be relatively expensive to replace the recommended four times a year, depending on the brand you buy. For example, Philips Sonicare brush heads cost between $6 and $15 each on average, while Oral-B’s costs between $3 and $9.
A 2014 study published in the International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences showed that guava leaf extract causes a reduction in the adhesion of early plaque. It has excellent antibacterial and biofilm-inhibition activity against Streptococcus mutans that cause dental plaque.
This range of brush heads includes: DiamondClean (standard & compact sizes), Adaptive Clean (standard & compact sizes), Intercare (standard), ProResults (standard & compact sizes), ProResults Plaque Control (standard), ProResults Gum Health (standard), Sensitive (standard), Simply Clean (standard & compact sizes) and For Kids (standard & compact sizes), C3 Premium Plaque Control (standard), G3 Premium Gum Care (standard), W3 Premium White (standard).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises against using your dishwasher or microwave to disinfect toothbrushes. The CDC even includes ultraviolet devices on the list of things that may damage the toothbrush.
The war on battery life is important because there are still some big gaps between leading manufacturers. There are certain toothbrushes that take 24 hours to charge fully, while others take 12 hours. Once fully charged some devices can last up to six weeks when used twice a day. In comparison, there are still devices that will not last half of that time.
Every state requires dental hygienists to be licensed; requirements vary by state. In most states, a degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and passing grades on written and clinical examinations are required for licensure. To maintain licensure, hygienists must complete continuing education requirements. For specific requirements, contact your state’s Board of Dental Examiners.
With the Sonicare line, buying a higher priced toothbrush doesn’t equate with getting a different brushing action. But there are some design and performance differences that may make a noticeable difference in your overall brushing experience.
When it comes to the type of handle (such as non-slip grip or flexible neck), shape of the head (tapered or rectangular) and style of bristles (such as rippled, flat or trimmed to a dome shape), pick whatever is most comfortable for you. The best toothbrush is one that fits your mouth and allows you to reach all teeth easily

Most brands, Philips included, have a 90 day grace period. Which means, you can still return or exchange the sonic toothbrush if you realize you have not made the right choice. We strongly advise that you take advantage of this warranty.
I sold my DiamondClean and now using two Essence+. While material of DiamondClean (ceramic paint) is nice, as long as it gives same cleaning I could care less. I also love travelling with inexpensive full powered electric toothbrush than DiamondClean.
My second time purchasing this item. Does a great job! I discarded the first one, after about a year of use. Was getting moldy, and dirty inside the base; and would have been time-consuming to clean; if that was even an option. Not 100% certain the UV light works, but love how it cleans my teeth. In the future, I will wipe down the toothbrush, after each use, to prevent the unsanitary build-up inside the base.
Dental hygienists have the option of working full-or part-time, so your schedule may have some flexibility to it. Unlike some other careers, dental hygienists also generally don’t have to work nights, weekends or holidays.
Was sold a counterfeit product by Office Supply Experts. The heads rubber seal broke much sooner than normal, and the fit with the toothbrush was loose. Upon further inspection, I see the heads say PHILLIPS sonicare on them, but the official ones are supposed to say E-series. BEWARE!
Beyond an associate’s degree, dental hygienists often pursue college or university programs that result in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in dental hygiene. Upon completion of an associate’s degree in dental hygiene, dental hygienists can expect to complete a bachelor’s degree program in another two years, and a master’s degree in another four years. Although advanced degrees in dental hygiene are not required to practice dental hygiene, they may be required or preferred for careers in teaching or research or for clinical practice in schools or public health programs.
There must be a factor beyond the brush stokes per minute though because I can assure everyone the 2 Series 31,000 brush strokes per minute is weak, weak compared to the 31,000 DiamondClean and Flexcare I have.
Philips is committed to understanding and meeting the needs and desires of its customers. This is why Philips creates cutting-edge products that are user friendly. With 60,000 registered patents, Philips is a global leader in innovation, receiving numerous international design awards every year. Sonicare is the number one recommended brand by dental professionals.
Counter oscillating – Is the last type of electric cleaning motion that toothbrushes come equipped with. The idea of this design is to allow each tuft of bristles to rotate in the opposite way of its neighbor. For instance, while one tuft may be rotating clockwise, its neighboring tufts could be going in a counter-clockwise direction.
Baking soda, also called sodium bicarbonate, is a great home remedy for removing plaque. It neutralizes acids in the mouth, thereby reducing the amount of harmful bacteria. It also helps whiten and brighten your pearly whites.
The colors in this pack of three toothbrushes will vary. This has been tested and evaluated by dental professionals and is commonly recommended by dental health professionals, like The Dental Insider. It also has outstanding reviews online.
Heads up – the referral link goes to an Amazon page showing that the Oral B Pro 1000 is no longer available, but if you do a search across Amazon you can find a different listing for Prime. Definitely want to support, so let me know when/if the switch is made.

That is a completely ad hominem attack on a scientific paper in a peer-reviewed journal. Do you have any specific complaints with their methods, procedures, or analysis, which is completely laid out in the open? If so, then let’s hear them. That’s the great thing about the scientific method.
The variety and diversity of rechargeable toothbrushes on the market can be overwhelmingly annoying. Especially, when you have decided to buy and use one. Besides the numerous differences in design, color and battery life, motor-powered toothbrushes also differ in the manner in which they clean teeth. In fact, there are five different ways to choose from.
Never share a toothbrush. Your mouth needs a healthy flora of its own bacteria, but it’s not good to introduce bacteria from someone else. That’s why Dr. Kahn says you should never share a toothbrush, especially with your children. “That’s when they are acquiring their normal flora,” she says.
mmm…What about the https://www.30secondsmile.com electric toothbrush? On the other end of the spectrum, dental hygienists in Kansas have a much broader list of allowable job duties, with most functions permitted to be performed under the general supervision of a licensed dentist. The only function that needs to be completed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in Kansas is the administration of local anesthesia, and the only function not allowed to be performed is the placement of sutures.

Speaking of your tongue, use it regularly to feel around and locate any plaque.  Our tongues are great ‘plaque detectors’, and we can use them to find any spots we have missed or have not brushed effectively.
This is the redesigned successor of the above mentioned Essence model. There are some visible improvements, but there are also some gray areas. This newer model costs on average 50% or so more than the older one.
Keep your toothbrush away from the toilet. Most people will often place their brushes by the toilet. It has been found that some bacteria become airborne during flushing. You don’t want that on your brush!
Brush Heads: Oral-B has 5 available brush heads and comes with three (cross action, whitening, and sensitive brush heads), Sonicare has 5 available brush heads and comes with two (AdaptiveClean, InterCare)
While the toothbrush performed very well in terms of brushing, we did not see much improvement in regards to whitening. According to Philips, 2 weeks of brushing twice a day should have resulted in teeth being whitened by 2 shades. Unfortunately, our test cannot confirm these claims.
Lithium ion batteries offer some advantages. Due to their smaller size, the bodies of models that have them tend to be lighter and sleeker. Additionally, the nature of these batteries offers recharging and performance advantages.
In Arizona, dental hygienists are permitted to perform prophylaxis, x-rays, topical anesthesia, fluoride, and pit and fissure sealants with the prior authorization of a licensed dentist, although the dentist need not be present when the services are performed. These licensed dental professionals are also allowed to perform the following under a dentist’s direct supervision:
The Sonicare Essence Plus comes with only one cleaning mode. But, that does not stop it from reaching the top speed of 31,000 brushes per minute. This makes it practically comparable to Philips’ 4 times more expensive DiamondClean model.
Dental hygiene across Canada is a well-respected career with many opportunities. These possibilities include working in clinical, administration, education, research and public health positions. The wages vary throughout the country; from approximately $32 per hour in some areas to as high as $55 per hour in others. A surplus of new dental hygiene graduates in recent years has resulted in a decrease in wages in some regions.[citation needed]
Electric toothbrushes are not any more effective at cleaning teeth than regular manually-operated ones. However, some people find that they are inclined to brush their teeth more regularly and for longer when they own an electric toothbrush, so investing in one may not be a bad idea.
First, I asked two friends who are dentists what they prefer. One friend strongly recommended the Sonicare FlexCare+, stating that the top of the line models are not any better. The other provided a similar recommendation to my dentist – either one will be a huge improvement over a manual brush. So slight tilt to the Sonicare at this point. Very slight because not much detail was provided as to why the Sonicare was better. Just a “trust me, get this” endorsement.

The “ad hominem attack” is yours, claiming I said “it feels cleaner to me” when I said no such thing. My checkups are better, as I suspected they might be from the way my teeth felt. But I don’t use “it feels cleaner to me” as evidence, nor do I offer it as such.

Plan (S) Oral Hygiene In Dementia Patients

The best electric toothbrush is easy to use, comes with extra bristle heads, improves your brushing technique, and is somewhat inexpensive. But, finding a model that is gentle on the teeth and gums, while eliminating plaque and food debris, is no easy task.
Dental hygiene refers to the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease. Dental hygiene and oral health are often taken for granted but are essential parts of our everyday lives.

Philips Sonicare 3 Series Gum Health feels and works very similarly to the 2 Series, with a glossy plastic handle and minimal gripping ridges. Now that our runner-up comes with a quadrant timer, this toothbrush has no features that we think are worth spending extra on.

Working with instructors and students in clinical courses can help to strengthen these skills. Also, you will need to use good body mechanics. Dental hygienists are at high risk of occupational injury due to long periods of being in awkward physical positions when working with patients. While in school, be sure to get training on the risks and preventative techniques that can help keep you healthy. If your school doesn’t have a body mechanics course, there may be options online.
Hi Lisa! Yes, you can soak it in there for a while. I wouldn’t use it as a resting place for the toothbrush. I guess you could if you rinsed really thoroughly before using. I just wouldn’t want any residual vinegar on the toothpaste that I needed to brush with. Good luck!
So that you know when it is time to replace the brush head on the sonicare toothbrush head for kids, there are some blue bristles. These blue bristles will fade over use, so when you notice that the blue bristles have started to look white, you should change the head. This will be roughly 3 months after the first use if it is used twice daily.
Likability. When it comes down to it, the best toothbrush for you is going to be the one you’re most likely to use — and use well. Some people may not like the vibrating feeling of a powered toothbrush. Others might find an electric variety easier to use to clean all tooth surfaces. This may be especially true for people with conditions that limit mobility, such as painful arthritis. If you enjoy using your toothbrush, you’re more likely to brush for the recommended length of time — two minutes. Some powered varieties even have a built-in timer to let you know when you’ve devoted enough time to brushing.
This is the most well-known and often used tool for removing plaque. Simply pour a little baking soda into a small container, wet your toothbrush, put some baking soda on it and brush. You can mix a pinch of salt into the baking powder for more cleansing power as the salt will be a good abrasive agent along with the baking soda. This removes tartar effectively for just pennies per use.
The Dental Hygiene program offers a rigorous, intensive, science-based curriculum, balanced with personal development, creating a whole person educational approach. Graduates are awarded an Associate’s in Applied Science degree and become eligible to take the written and clinical exams necessary to obtain a license in Dental Hygiene.

As the Industrial Revolution was catching up, so was the demand for new technological advances that could make life better. The standard of living was raised, and so were people’s demands for health products.
In 1910 the Ohio College of Dental Surgery offered a formal course for dental nurses. However, dentists in Ohio strongly opposed the formal training school, and those who completed the coursework were never allowed to practice. The course was soon to be discontinued in 1914 due to the backlash from the dental community.[9]
Kimbry Parker has been writing since 1998 and has published content on various websites. Parker has experience writing on a variety of topics such as health, parenting, home improvement and decorating. She is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Arts in organizational communication.
Brush your teeth twice daily. Brushing your teeth is by far the most effective way of removing plaque, and brushing properly and regularly will help to ensure that less plaque builds up over time. This is important as built-up plaque can calcify into tartar, which is a lot harder to remove. You should brush your teeth once a day at the very least, but dentists recommend brushing twice; once in the morning and once before bed.[3]
First, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with ½ teaspoon of salt into the cup. After you wet the toothbrush with warm water, dip it into the mixture. Scrub teeth with it and spit. Continue the same process for five minutes.
Storing your toothbrush upright (bristles up, handle down) after use is very important. This allows the water to drain from the bristles easier and all the water and particles collect at the bottom of the handle of the toothbrush. Also you may notice that a nasty scum collects at the bottom of containers that do not have a drain at the bottom, and you do not want your bristles touching that scum that could cause your bristles to collect mold and bacteria.
Dental hygienists are an important part of dentist-led teams. Their work removes a considerable burden from the dentist, freeing up the dentist to perform more advanced procedures. Therefore, it is quite common for dental hygienists to perform many of the preventive dental procedures in an office, such as teeth cleaning and fluoride application.
Taking steps to naturally reduce stress and make healthy lifestyle changes is best and includes; quitting smoking, keeping alcohol use to a minimum, participate in yoga and meditation to reduce stress and just taking time to relax. Try to avoid medications to reduce stress if at all possible, they can have side-effects or be habit forming.
Love this article! Your conclusions are directly in line with dentist recommendations and exactly why we created our entire brand – quip. We created a beautiful but affordable electric toothbrush ( and oral care range) that focuses only on the basics and ignores the expensive gimmicks. Very Refreshing to see a post like this!
I was just checking Amazon for the HX6511/50. It has one left and says that this model has been discontinued and replaced by the HX6631/30 model. What do you think? Should I buy the 6631 model instead? Thanks so much

Variety: Dental hygienists use a variety of interpersonal and clinical skills to meet the oral health needs of many different patients each day. Hygienists have opportunities to help special population groups such as children, the elderly and the disabled. They may also provide oral health instruction in primary and secondary schools and other settings.
Dental hygienists work together with other dental professionals, with a higher number working at general practices with Dentists, dental therapists and oral health therapists. A smaller number work at specialist practices alongside orthodontists and periodontists. They help with the contribution of an interdisciplinary approach, aiming to provide optimum oral health care to their patients. Dental hygienists also aim to work inter-professionally to provide holistic oral health care in the best interest of their patient. Dental hygienists also offer expertise in their field and can provide a dental hygiene diagnosis, which is an integral component of the comprehensive dental diagnosis.[7]
It’s a more simple model. It offers only a cleaning mode. It has one timer for two minutes of brushing but does not have a quad pacer. For some people, it’s important, while for others a 2-minute timer is enough.
The Colgate Smart Electronic Toothbrush E1 uses on-board sensors and “artificial intelligence” to track the brush head’s location as you move it around your mouth. (For more on our experience with the smart capabilities of the E1, see “Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 Review: Who Needs a Smart Toothbrush?”) The E1 vibrates but does not oscillate, and does so more quietly than most electric toothbrushes we’ve tested. Although it does have an on-board two-minute timer with quadrant pacing, this device lacks a pressure sensor (a possible dealbreaker for some), and it is compatible with only a single style of replacement brush heads, which can be purchased only from the Colgate website. Factoring in shipping costs, these replacement heads are among the most expensive we’ve considered, by far (a definite dealbreaker, in our opinion). The handle itself is among the lightest and most streamlined we’ve tested, featuring a single on-off button (Colgate doesn’t offer superfluous cleaning modes). As with other smart toothbrushes, we believe the E1 is overkill for most. However, if you’re interested in accurate brush head position detection along with automated habit-tracking, and would prefer not to grant another app access to your phone’s camera and/or microphone, the E1 performs well in these respects (and—replacement brush heads excluded—generally costs less than its closest competitors, the Oral-B Genius 8000 and the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected).
I considered travel convenience since I am on the move a lot. Both come with travel cases. Oral-B is a nicer looking black case. The Oral-B is made by Braun, and the travel charger uses the same kind of plug as my Braun Series 9.

If you are looking to become the ultimate destroyer of plaque and harmful mouth bacteria, you have come to the right place. Sonic toothbrushes are powerful, easy to use, quite interactive, and most of all beneficial to everyday oral hygiene. So, if you think the time to up your dental game has come, this comparison between different sonic models is for you.
Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and provide other preventive dental care. They also educate patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health.
If you have braces — pay attention to the heads selection. I grabbed a pack of round “floss action” ones, but turned out instruction explicitly recommends against using them with braces. Specialized heads for braces seem to not be available around here, so I guess I’ll stick with “default” ones for now.
We’d be of the impression that at least a part of what you mention is a reference to Sonicare’s rating of the brush head that comes with the Diamond Clean as compared to the Easy Clean’s ProResults head. Those are the exact numbers (7x vs 2x) that are stated on the Sonicare website for those respective heads.
Soak your toothbrush head in alcohol. Rubbing alcohol will kill the germs, and if you let it air dry or rinse it with water afterwards you can brush immediately after. Rubbing alcohol does the job pretty quickly, but leave your toothbrush in a glass or bowl of it for at least a minute to assure sanitation.

I actually ended up buying it because my previous 1000 had died, and I can confirm it is exactly the same (except for a color change). It works with all the normal rotating brush heads. They actually have a brush-head compatibility chart on their site that shows you what it’s compatible with.
This Sonicare model comes equipped with 5 modes: clean, white, sensitive, gum care and deep clean. This makes this toothbrush practically perfect for all everyday uses and purposes. The slim ergonomic design of the handle makes it extremely easy to hold, operate, and switch between settings. In addition, the illuminated display and battery indicator make this model even more attractive and futuristic looking.
2. Fit a brush head by pushing the metal tip of the brush motor at the top of the brush handle into the hole in the bottom of the brush head.  As the two are pushed together there will be a click, the head is now attached.
The easiest way to keep your toothbrush clean is to rinse it with hot water (hot water cleans and kills germs easier) before and after brushing. Use your thumb and move it back and forth against the bristles while underneath or in water. It is important to do it before brushing as well as after because airborne bacteria or other particles such as dust may have settled on the toothbrush since your last brushing.
This is some of the worst advice I have ever seen! Just curious…..do you have a degree in dentistry?? Using baking soda on a regular basis is very abrasive on the teeth which in turn can cause erosion to the enamel and sensitivity. Rubbing citrus fruits on teeth? Are you kidding me? The acid from the citrus can cause erosion on the teeth, which in turn causes sensitivity, in some cases sensitivity bad enough to the point that restorative dentistry needs to be done. We see it all the time with people that suck on lemons! And suggesting using a “dental pic” as you call it…it’s called a scaler; should NEVER be done by anyone other than a hygienist or dentist. You can cause damage to the gum tissue if you don’t know what you’re doing. Stupid advice! All of it is nonsense! Don’t do any of these things! Get the tarter/calculus removed by a professional!
The crux of this issue is that the Sonicare has no clinical evidence to show that it’s better at cleaning than a normal brush whereas the Oral-B does. Lots of it. You can click the links and read the papers for yourself.
HOWEVER, if you read reviews at sites like Amazon, long time Sonicare users are fairly passionate in their opinion that the Series 2 and Series 3 do not have the performance of older models nor the HealthyWhite+ and above models. They seem very definitive in this opinion and yes they say they turn off the “easy start.” Some even say the Essence makes their teeth feel cleaner than the Series 2.
Even worse, if you don’t deal with plaque buildup in a timely fashion, it will turn into tartar. Tartar is a harder relative of plaque that is more difficult to remove and can cause your gums to bleed and become infected.
When you are sick there may be more pathogenic bacteria than normal, and when you brush your teeth some of that bacteria is collected on the toothbrush. Studies have not been done to show how much is left after you rinse your toothbrush and if it would be enough to cause you to get sick again in the future or not. Just to be sure, when you are sick disinfect the toothbrush by letting it soak in an antibacterial solution for 10 minutes after brushing each time.
The maintenance phase involves continuous care, which varies anywhere from two to six-month intervals. This maintenance phase involves both the patient and the dental hygienist to stop the disease from re-occurring, with the objective of keeping the dentition functioning for as long as possible in the oral cavity.[8]
If a subscription service will help you replace your brush heads regularly, Goby has all the features we look for in a brush: a 30-second quadrant timer that stops after two minutes and a rechargeable battery. The Goby has only one type of brush head available (rotating), so if you like to customize your brush this service may not be for you.
Quit being such a know-it-all. Not every one can afford to go to a dentist or even have dental insurance for that matter. If it even helps a little bit, then it’s better for them to try it than to let their teeth and gums go to pot. Just my opinion and probably many others.
Oral-B is the #1 dentist and hygienist recommended brand worldwide and is the brand that most dentists use themselves, so you know you’ll get a good clean when you use one of their toothbrushes. This is available in soft or medium varieties, depending on your preferences. The colors in your pack of two toothbrushes will vary. This is an Amazon best seller, has superior online reviews, and some people claim that it works as well as electric toothbrushes. If you need a dependable floss as well, consider the Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Comfort Plus Mint Flavor Floss.
“Truthfully, at the end of the day, for pennies and minutes—you don’t need all of these more costly brushes—you can choose oral health,” Dr. Lopez-Howell said. No matter the toothbrush (manual or powered, “smart” or not), “brush twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste, floss once daily, and visit your dentist to make sure that you’re doing the right thing.”
Apply tomatoes and strawberries to your teeth. Tomatoes and strawberries, like oranges, are rich in vitamin C. Cut them open and rub the juice on the surface of the teeth, leaving it to sit for about five minutes. Do not use strawberries or tomatoes or apples or oranges or any other plaque removing foods if you’re allergic to them. Rinse out your mouth with a solution of baking soda dissolved in water.[7]
Cleaning modes don’t matter, according to experts we spoke to and research we’ve seen. The only one that might help is “sensitive mode” for people who find the brush’s normal oscillations too jarring. “People with sensitive teeth may find that their teeth are less sensitive when the brush head moves slower or less pressure is applied,” said Dr. Messina. The average person doesn’t need it, though. “As far as whitening goes, all toothbrushes help remove surface stains when used with a toothpaste because toothpastes contain mild abrasives and detergents for this purpose,” said Dr. Messina.
You see, saliva is very mineral rich to help remineralize any surface decay on our teeth.  Since the lower front teeth come into contact with this rich source of minerals first, some of the minerals are deposited there first.
1. Pull the brush head away from the brush handle with a small amount of force to release the connection. There will likely be a click and you will revel a metal prong that is the shaft that connects to the motor. The head is now detached.
The ToiletTree Rechargeable seemed like a good value prospect, as it comes with a free secondary travel toothbrush, but reviews report that it is very loud and stops working after a short period of time. It is no longer available on Amazon.
Thrive Market’s mission is simple: make healthy living and organic food accessible to everyone—regardless of where they live or how much they make. How do they do it? By offering organic, wholesome foods and nontoxic home and body care products for less than what you’ll find in traditional retail stores—all delivered straight to your door.
This was one of the most effective and entertaining brushes that we tested. Made out of white molded plastic, the Sonicare FlexCare Platinum was among the lightest brushes that we tested. The metallic control panel gives this model a very modern and sophisticated feel.
The more bells and whistles your toothbrush has, the more expensive it will be, so it’s important to think about what features you’ll actually use. Sure, gum massaging modes and phone apps sound appealing, but if you’re not going to use these features daily you shouldn’t have to pay for them. We asked our experts which features were essential for improving brushing technique and which might be useful but not necessary. They narrowed it down to the following options:
Then you have another small negative thing is that if you open your mouth too much during brushing, it might splash out considerable amount of liquid from mouth at the mirror, but that is just a sign how efficiently the brush works and it is the same that if you touch your teeth with the plastic part of brush head it feels quite drastic in head, but that is also a proof of the good amplitude and high efficiency of the tooth brush.
Tennessee Dental Hygienists’ Association Aside from national associations and organizations, many states have their own professional bodies to further the work of dental hygienists, as seen in this example from Tennessee.
I love not having to work all week if I don’t want to…Truthfully I’d recommend that a hygienist NOT work full time if they are financially able… It’s a great job but it can definitely wear you out if you have a full day with a lot of pts.
After completing studies, graduates undertake the written and clinical examinations required to become a registered dental hygienist (RDH) and are competitive for roles in public and private dental offices.

Brand New Oral Hygiene And Fertility

Purchasing the HealthyWhite+ clearly crosses the border into purchasing more toothbrush features than you really need. But in doing so you get a brush design, function, and refinement that seems more akin to Sonicare’s higher-end models than the Sonicare 3 Series does.
After doing the above calculations, you’ll find that a Sonicare has a frequency of about 258 hz, which is actually toward the bottom of the audible range given above. Just as a point of interest, this same frequency in musical terms (the hum you hear) is about Middle C on the piano.
The availability of loan funding has caused RDH schools to mushroom. The training may be good, but with the resulting oversupply of graduates, the chances of becoming successful in hygiene are approaching the chances of becoming well off by being a professional athlete, going into acting, or taking up writing fiction.
It can be pretty tricky to use Bass brushing on this surface.  Unless you have a really wide dental arch (lucky you), it can be tough to get your toothbrush to lay at the correct angle to use the Bass technique as we’ve taught it.
Well hate to break it to you but it does NOT work!! Dental schools are reduced fees to benefit the students and YOU, it is not the 25th caller it is anyone who cares enough to want good oral health which also increases good overall health. PleAse think before you believe some nonsense you read on the Internet.
If the battery dies prematurely, contact customer service about it. I’m sure they’ll be happy to send out a new one. However, if it’s lasted a few years and the battery is no longer charging, it’s probably best to replace the entire unit itself.
String cords, on the other hand, are hard to get around your finger and they often rip while flossing. Not to mention, sometimes it is quite difficult to reach the rear teeth of your mouth. However, if you have tight space between your teeth, no toothbrush will do the job as efficiently as a flossing cord.
An advice to the Flecare+ is to also buy the diamond clean brush heads for even a smoother cleaning feeling or even the adaptive clean brush heads (The adaptive clean heads I think are very good but those I have not tried yet). The Flexcare brush head is very good to remove tartar, but the diamond clean makes your teeth even more silky and glossy and maybe slightly more comfortable to brush with, but already the Flexcare brush head is extremely good for the silky feeling.
Our ever so brilliant writer of this guide just mentioned something that was so nifty all I could say was ‘wow’ –> Repurpose your old toothbrush as a new electric toothbrush cleaning tool. It will be able to get in those crevasses!

Take advantage of this by being a model patient. Brush and floss regularly. Eat a healthy diet, filled with plenty of fruit and vegetables. And keep up with regular check-ups and appointments, because your visits to the dentist are what determine whether you need a quick clean or a more extensive treatment. To make the former more likely, give your teeth the tender love and care that they deserve.
Princess, as a dental nurse you should use better spelling and grammar. When patients read your comment you would hope they are convinced you can adequately perform your job giving them confidence that your training was satisfactory. Otherwise there’s back-to-school specials on soon and it’s not too late to enroll into grade ten to touch up your mistakes.
We switched the whole family from manual to the Sonicare brushes maybe a year ago and saw a pretty radical improvement in gum health. It’s impossible to tell how much of that came from the switch to electric and how much might be attributable to the type, but the subjective feeling of cleanliness with the Sonicare was remarkably different from other electrics I’ve tried in the past.

In our experience, all of these brushes, even the top-end ones, did the same thing—moved toothpaste around in your mouth. Toothbrushes that identify as “sonic” like Philips and Waterpik models tend to be quieter and have a vibration-like movement, and oscillating brushes are louder. But this is a distinction between different types of brushes made by different manufacturers, not expensive brushes versus cheap ones.
My flexcare finally died after 5 years of use (best brush ive ever owned, though the uv bulb cleaner died after only less than 2 years) , so ive been to both target and bbb and came home to compare the models, hoping i didnt need to get the top model anymore, and wow was this so informative, kinda sad the series 2 doesnt have the quadpacer or that would easily be the best buy, but i do need that option.
Note: We haven’t yet completed our update of this page for Spring 2018. If you’re looking for information about Sonicare’s new ProtectiveClean line (models 6100, 5100 and 4100) and how they will fit into our Best Sonicares drill down on this page, the information you want can be found here.
Get regular, professional cleanings. Even if you implement the most rigorous oral hygiene routine at home, you can still benefit from a visit to the dentist every six months or so. Only a dentist can give you the thorough, professional cleaning which will remove the most hard-to-reach plaque and stubborn tartar.
It’s not that I am not pleased with the review; I think the inclusion of this information could make them much better. Hopefully, you would include it on the checklist that you use when you initially qualify products for review.
The best brush head to use from the range is the DiamondClean head, be that the Compact or Standard sized option.  The tightly compacted diamond shaped bristles create a stain-removal pad and offers a superior clean and can whiten teeth in just one week, through effective cleaning and stain removal.
Should the plaque removal begin with the first brushing using a Bass Brush and proper technique, or will this take a series of brushings? How long before results are noticed by the average customer? Thank you for the helpful article!
It can easily be argued that each brush head within the Sonicare range is specialist, in that they are each designed to do something specific.  However, the following are even more specialist.  Technically, these are not brush heads, they are nozzles.

2005 – PA 161 Dental hygienist: hygienists with grantee status can work in a public or nonprofit environment, a school or nursing home that administers dental care to a low-income population. Dentists collaborating with dental hygienists do not need to be present to authorize or administer treatment. However, dental hygienists must have the availability to communicate with a dentist in order to review patient records and establish emergency protocols. Hygienists need to apply to the state department of community health for grantee status.[43]
Your toothbrush can become a breeding ground for germs, which is one reason why you ought to change it every 3 months. However, germs multiply in minutes, not months, and need to be cleaned between swaps. How do you keep your toothbrush clean? Here are some ideas.
You see, saliva is very mineral rich to help remineralize any surface decay on our teeth.  Since the lower front teeth come into contact with this rich source of minerals first, some of the minerals are deposited there first.
Personal satisfaction: One of the most enjoyable aspects of a career in dental hygiene is working with people. Personal fulfillment comes from providing a valuable health care service while establishing trusting relationships with patients.
The non-contact cleaning action of a Sonicare is dependent on the way it agitates the fluids surrounding the teeth. As such, you’d have to assume that lower-power setting creates a lesser non-contact cleaning effect. But whether this relationship curve is linear or exponential in shape, we don’t know.
For the person who commented about recurring strep throat…gargle with salt water – one part salt to 2 parts warm to hot but not boiling water. Gargle 3x per day for a couple days. The salt kills strep.

Healthy Sonicare Hygienic Travel Cap

Hello, I’ve been browsing the internet how to clean a toohbrush naturually, no rubbing alcohol! thanks for the info, should I clean it every week? say every saturday? twice a week? what would be the best days to clean it, I brush 3 times a day.
I’ve been reviewing all of the various Philips Sonicare models to determine which features I think have value and are worth paying for and I agree with your assessment regarding the 3 series, however I have visited a retailer who has all of them on display. The one thing that jumped out at me was how noisy the 3 series is compared to the other higher end models. No mention of this was made in your assessment of the different models. Are you aware of this and if so, why would this model have a different motor that produces so much more noise. It’s a significant difference and seemed annoying.
Surprisingly, the body remains more or less the same. It is still chubby, round and feels heavy when held. Partially, because Philips has chosen to continue using a NiMH battery instead of switching to a Lithium Ion. In addition, the Essence+ does not offer any improvements in terms of noise reduction and vibration. It still feels and sounds like the older model.
One thing worth pointing out about electric toothbrushes is that they are not cheaper in the long run. Electric toothbrushes cost about 10 times as much as manual toothbrushes, and you have to replace the brush heads at the same frequency (every three months), each for about the same cost as a manual brush. What you get for the higher cost is less friction in achieving good brushing habits, and, according to research, a significant reduction in plaque and gingivitis, even if that reduction may come only from having a brush that encourages good habits, like a full two minutes of brushing for each session.
As of 2011, dental hygienists earned an average wage of $33.31 an hour and a mean annual income of $69,760, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The median-earning 50 percent of the approximately 184,110 dental hygienists employed in the United States earned between $27.38 and $40.05 an hour and reported annual salaries ranging from $56,950 to $83,310.
Sonic toothbrushes usually operate at around 260Hz or 260 times per second. Each vibration creates 2 brush strokes per second. So, in a minute, there are about 31,000 brush strokes, which is 10 times faster than regular electric toothbrushes. Some Philips models have even tested at speeds exceeding 62,000 brush strokes per minute.
Oral cancer – according to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, men over the age of 40 have the greatest risk for oral cancer. About approximately 43,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer of the mouth, tongue or throat area, and the ACS estimates that about 7,000 people will die from these cancers. The use of tobacco products and alcohol increases the risk of oral cancer. Most oral cancers are first diagnosed by the dentist during a routine checkup.
On their website Phillips claim that the EasyClean removes 2 x plaque while more expensive models remove up to 7 x plaque. Do you think this claim stands up? If it does, then, although I much prefer not to have the extra modes it looks like I must!
Brush Heads – Information about Sonicare brush heads, including: What styles of heads are available, in which sizes? Which heads can be used with which models? Comparative cleaning efficiency. How long does a brush head last? Screw-on vs. Click-on design. Standard vs. Compact sizes.
Although the demand for dental services is growing, the number of new graduates from dental hygiene programs also has increased, resulting in more competition for jobs. Candidates can expect very strong competition for most full-time hygienist positions. Job seekers with previous work experience should have the best job opportunities.
The DiamondClean and DiamondClean Smart lines are the slimmest/sleekest of the Sonicares. However, all of the more modern Sonicares (including the models you mention) are much slimmer than the models of yesteryear (some of which are still sold). Many retailers have “dummy” Sonicare models on display so you can hold them (Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc…).

The biggest problem with the Essence is that you’re severely limited on the style of replacement brush heads. And for that reason the Essence+, while newer and less tested but seemingly the same mechanism, to us seems to make the better choice.
Gum disease – if your home care routine of brushing and flossing has slipped and you have skipped your regular dental cleanings, bacterial plaque and tartar can build up on your teeth. The plaque and tartar, if left untreated, may eventually cause irreparable damage to your jawbone and support structures, and could lead to tooth loss.
That being said, I’m replacing it, and I may be switching to a Sonicare with some of those unnecessary features simply because I have certain issues that weren’t addressed. We have really hard water where I live. My brush is permanently discolored. I can’t remove the buildup from parts of it or the charging base. This stuff can’t be good for my teeth. I don’t want to buy a container for a five-year-old toothbrush that’s already caked with calcium and limescale.
No, it’s not. Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate and while baking powder contains some sodium bicarbonate, it also contains cream of tartar and some type of starch. They are both used as leavening agents. Hope this helps.
Personal satisfaction, prestige, variety, job security and flexibility are promoted in this video. Specific information about job responsibilities, education, training and job opportunities also are addressed.

The colors in this pack of three toothbrushes will vary. This has been tested and evaluated by dental professionals and is commonly recommended by dental health professionals, like The Dental Insider. It also has outstanding reviews online.
As discussed above, it’s only realistic to assume that with increased cost comes a higher build quality. But considering the planned-obsolescence, disposable nature of this type of product (for example, battery failure generally equates with toothbrush death), we’ve decided that to us the line delineating what makes a reasonable purchase or not, lies below these models.
Having said that, while never a “top” model itself the Essence represents the yesteryear Sonicare technology that this line built its reputation on (both in the marketplace and dental research). That means you can be effective with this brush. And for people stepping up from a manual one, the difference should be noticeable.
Self help is the best. I personally follow a dental routine of brushing and mouth wash, but twice a week use baking soda and have recently added hydrogen peroxide which I intend to use once a week. My dentist says he loves the state of my teeth and gum..my nephew who is a dentist is totally against polishing teeth and believes it will damage the teeth in the long run. of course those in the field throw their hands up in the sky but the proof of the pudding is in the pie! if those who have used Baking soda for years have perfectly healthy teeth, who are they to suggest it is harmful!
As for studies, the NIH did many… so I’m not sure where you go and say there weren’t any independent ones. Here’s one that confirms these brushes DO make a difference versus manual (and that the Sonicare was slightly better than the OralB): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9487838 I’ll agree, it’s an older study, but the findings should still hold true, since the principle tech (vibrations/oscillations) are the same for the most part.
The American Dental Association has a set of criteria to give products its Seal of Acceptance. Many products don’t seek this certification, but a product can’t receive the recognition unless the ADA has independently verified and approved its claims. In 2017, Oral-B became the first electric toothbrush brand to receive the ADA seal, with five series of the Oscillating-Rotating-Pulsating Power Toothbrush receiving the seal. However, the only factors that the ADA has found necessary to mouth health are brushing for two minutes with a reasonably soft brush and using proper technique.
Use the correct brushing technique. When brushing your teeth, hold the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle against the gum line and sweep the brush away from the gums, in a short vertical, back-and-forth, or circular motions. Try not too scrub too hard, as this can actually damage the enamel on your teeth and cause high sensitivity to any type of stimulus.[2]
With an angled neck and contoured bristles that correspond to the natural shape of your teeth, the e-Series Standard toothbrush heads deliver a thorough, comfortable brushing experience. The angled neck provides optimal reach for the bristles, which have soft rounded ends that gently massage your gums and go deep between teeth to remove plaque.
This was the conclusion of the study published in 2003 and its iterations since then. But there are two caveats to this conclusion. One is that a powered toothbrush is equipped to make brushing easier, and therefore good dental health easier to achieve—they require less physical labor to use, and can have built-in mechanisms, like a timer, to make good habits more concrete. Another is that the Cochrane report, which is a survey of randomized controlled trials, also specifies that the studies used were reporting on unsupervised brushing sessions—essentially, participants were sent a toothbrush, either manual or powered, and expected to report back on results. Self-reporting of habits in scientific studies, as a type of information is not as high-quality as observations by scientists in a lab setting, but so far science has not compelled people to quarantine themselves for observations of their toothbrushing habits, nor has the funding materialized to compensate them for their time. Hence, self-reporting is as good as it’s going to get on this scale of habit studying, but it’s far from perfect.
Use the right kind of toothbrush and toothpaste. To effectively brush your teeth and ensure that you are getting rid of as much plaque as possible, it is important that you have the right tools. Although there are many fancy toothbrushes on the market, the American Dental Association states that any “soft nylon brush with rounded-end, polished bristles” will do the trick.[1] Hard bristled toothbrushes can be too abrasive and wear away tooth enamel and hurt your gums. Even if you are not using the correct brushing technique, soft bristles will still be better.
There may be more opportunities for a nurse to get a job in a variety of locations but there is also a much higher risk of contracting an illness from your patients which can cause serious health problems for you.
The toothbrush itself does not breathtakingly eye-catching. It will not give a futuristic look to your bathroom cabinet. But, with 31,000 vibration movements per minute, it will do the job. In addition, you get 3 brushing modes: Clean, Soft, and Massage. That is, 2 more mode than you get for the similarly priced Sonicare 2 Series.
2. Related to item one above, the brushes are very difficult to remove from the toothbrush itself. I struggled to get mine out, and my wife couldn’t do it. So even if you wanted to go through the trouble of swapping the brushes, you’d have a difficult time doing so. It’s a good thing that I won’t have to do that but every three months or so.
Hello everyone, i am a junior in highschool and i have been interested in becoming a dental hygienist for a while now, i’ve been debating being a flight attendant or a dental hygenist. but reading these negative comments are making me wonder if i should re-evaluate my decision! i have always enjoyed going to the dentist as a child. flying in airplanes for a career and not coming home at the end of every day just doesn’t fit me! i’m more interested in an easy going job that won’t put me completely on my a** at the end of the day with enough cash to support myself. as a little girl i’ve dreamed of having a career such as this, and i don’t like hearing it can be a huge mistake! if somebody could tell me what schooling i must go through, and if being a dental hygenist is a good choice for a girl like me.
Fading reminder bristles are present to help you recognise when it is time to change the head (recommendation of every 3 months).  But better still, if using a Smart Sonicare brush handle the brush will monitor how often the head is used and how hard you brush and remind you at precisely the right time to change.
Remember to brush your tongue. Plaque can easily build up on the surface of the tongue due to food residues, so make sure to give it a little gentle scrub too. This will also help to freshen your breath.

November 14, 2017 – To keep up with new brands and changing technology, we’ve completely revamped our electric toothbrush review from 2015. This time around, we expanded our top picks from one to four to accommodate more budgets and levels of features. We also updated our methodology so that it’s consistent with current research on oral hygiene, and sent 16 toothbrushes home with a team of testers to get real-life feedback. Ultimately, we replaced our original top pick, the Oral-B 7000, with the more-streamlined Philips Sonicare 2, which is $25 cheaper and includes all the key features recommended by dentists to actually improve your brushing technique. If you’re in the market for an electric toothbrush that includes a similarly robust set of features as the Oral-B 7000, we recommend the Philips DiamondClean, which our testers found easier to maneuver, and comes with an intuitive, informative app.
Tartar, also known as calculus, is a form of dental plaque that has hardened. This hardening occurs when your saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) deposit minerals. Tartar is composed of a combination organic components (cells and their extracellular matrices) and inorganic substances. Its inorganic component largely consists of four types of calcium phosphate crystals: octocalcium phosphate, hydroxyapatite, whitlockite, and brushite.
Using Magnesium oil sprayed onto your toothbrush instead of toothpaste will remove calcium deposits, remove fluoride damage, re-build enamel and whiten teeth…although not whiten as effectively as baking soda.

Dental hygienists make comfortable salaries, especially considering half of them work part time. In 2016, their median salary was $72,910, according to the BLS. The best-paid 10 percent earned $100,170, and the lowest-paid 10 percent earned $50,870.
The one thing I did notice is that the new unit came with brush heads that do not fit flush against the base of the handle. This once again allows water to seep inside the brush head and sit against the metal tip. I would have thought Tao by now would have fixed this issue with new brush heads. I know the newer replacement heads I bought earlier in the year had solved this, but I guess the replacement units still have the original heads. I will need to remove the head after every couple of uses to swab out the inside of the brush head and wipe down the metal tip to keep it from corroding the metal.
Ease of using the brush: We also asked our testers to rate how easy the toothbrushes were to maneuver. We wanted toothbrushes that would help us maintain proper technique — holding the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums with short tooth-wide strokes. Some, like the Jim Ellis, made our tester’s hand tired and came with a circular handle that was “difficult to maneuver or twist around.” (Note: we were curious about this comment, so we ran some additional tests on handle comfort and found that slightly more square handles — pretty standard for most models — are actually much easier to handle). Our testers reported that others, like the Fairywell, were “lighter and a bit less rounded so it was easier to maneuver around and hold for the duration of cleaning.”

Soniccare are junk and the company does not stand behind their product. I had one with a defective battery and it started to smell bad. The only thing I got from their customer service is 15% off to purchase another one with free shipping. Why would I purchase another product from your company when you don’t stand behind the product I bought? Go with Oral B.
At first glance, brushing your teeth can seem like a simple activity. After all, most of us do it at least once every day. But brushing your teeth actually requires a bit of skill. Fortunately, brushing with proper technique isn’t difficult to learn — it’s more about reminding yourself to do so. We gathered the most important techniques to keep in mind for a healthy smile.
Salary and making a living definitely depend on a person’s lifestyle; some people may be comfortable with a salary of much less while others could be unhappy making much more. It may help you to research and see how your lifestyle would stack up to different salaries to find what you would be comfortable at.
Do not be worried that you need to use them all to target different areas of the mouth.  You can still have white teeth, healthy gums and reduced plaque by using the DiamondClean head.  Using the Sensitive brush head may improve your experience but will not mean that your teeth are more stained because it does not aggravate the tooth surface as much.
These numbers don’t mean that you can’t be just as effective in removing plaque with either a manual or conventional toothbrush. But due to their high rate of speed, it’s easy to see why sonics make a good, efficient brushing choice.
Flexcare Platinum has some of the features of DiamondClean but comes at a lower price. It’s not as advanced as the previous model and also lacks some of its useful features. However, it’s still a powerful toothbrush with immense cleaning capabilities.
If you had followed the link in our Smartimer paragraph above you might have stumbled across our mention that this feature can’t be deactivated. (We’ve add this info to this page now so it’s easier to find.)
I highly don’t recommend leaving acids on teeth, however, Vitamin C on the teeth (and in general) can do wonders so you can use the sodium ascorbate (not ascorbic acid) form of vitamin C on your teeth. When making a glass of a gram or two with water, I sometimes swish it all around for a minute or so, a few separate times, before swallowing.

Dental hygiene refers to the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease. Dental hygiene and oral health are often taken for granted but are essential parts of our everyday lives.
No matter what toothpaste or mouthwash you use, it will be hard to have fresh breath and good oral health if the toothbrush you use is overrun with bacteria, mold, and decaying food particles. A clean toothbrush that is in good condition is essential for good oral hygiene and in killing the germs that cause bad breath. There are a lot of myths and ideas that surround how to store and keep your toothbrush clean from bacteria and other particles such as storing your toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible and in a closed container. Some of these are important and effective in sustaining proper health, while others are unnecessary, not worth the time, or are just plain too expensive. In this article we will discuss proven methods that will keep your toothbrush clean and in optimum working performance and also discuss why other methods may be too much work for too little results.
Our point here would be that you owe it to yourself to perform some experimentation. Don’t just use a Standard-size head one because you think you should. Experiment and determine which seems best to you.

In doing this review, did you come across the Ultreo line of toothbrushes? I used to use them back in 2007 or so, but the company went out of business in 2009. I recently came across it again, so it looks like it may have been revived. May be worth looking into it.
Kids’ toothbrushes: Our experts advised us to be realistic about how invested kids will be in dental care. Dr. Lawlor explained “kids aren’t going to be lasering in on technique and if you’re a busy parent, you may not have time to ensure they brush perfectly.” Our experts agreed that an electric toothbrush is a valuable tool because it can make up for the lack of brushing technique while kids learn to brush properly. Dr. Friedman explained that “an electric toothbrush is a great option due to the fact that young children don’t have the dexterity to brush with the right technique.” Beyond that, it’s simply about finding the toothbrush that encourages them to brush.
There are many products on the market now that claim to sanitize and kill all the bacteria on your toothbrush. There are antibacterial rinses, UV (ultraviolet) Light Sanitizers, and even antibacterial bristles are found on some toothbrushes. Do they work? Some of them do a good job of killing bacteria while some of them do not live up to their claims. A better question is: Is completely sanitizing a toothbrush every time even necessary? Studies have shown that some of these products do kill bacteria, but there is not a single study that also shows using any toothbrush sanitizer will reduce your risk of getting sick.
The oscillating-rotating toothbrush is mostly developed by Oral-B. They have tested and perfected the design and technology over time. Currently, the idea of this type of toothbrush is to move slowly from tooth to tooth in order for more effective cleaning.
It’s unfortunate there isn’t better information on the possible benefits of the “sonic” cleaning action. If I read correctly, the difference is ~30k per minute frequency vs ~3k per minute, the higher frequency naturally being accompanied by smaller vibration amplitudes. It’s easy to imagine that as the brush head moves over a surface, each point on that surface is “agitated” many more times, on a different scale of movement, making for a radically different mechanical cleaning action.
Peripheral artery disease. If plaque builds up in the blood vessels that carry blood to your legs, it can reduce the amount of oxygen delivered. The reduced blood flow can cause you to experience pain, numbness, or serious infection in your legs and feet.
While we love to dive into interesting, important and sometimes obscure topics like how oil pulling helps heal leaky gut and how smiling contributes to greater immune expression, today let’s go back to basics and discuss one of the most frequently asked questions we get around how to brush our teeth.
Hi my name is Jose. I really want a career in Dental hygiene, but I’m concerned that It may be a bad choice since most hygienist are female. Would it be a good idea to follow that path or should I look somewhere else? Is it okay if a hygienist is male?
Yes, we’ll concede that a few people may have special circumstances (like the need for a “sensitive” mode). But for the vast majority users, the best, most effective, most efficient brushing mode they can use is the full-power one.
Strawberries and tomatoes have good quantities of vitamin C which is excellent for oral health. Rub these fruits directly onto your teeth and let sit for 5 minutes, this will soften any tartar build-up. Then rinse your mouth with baking soda mixed with warm water to remove plaque, leaving you with super-clean pearly whites. You can also use other vitamin C rich foods like bell peppers, berries, lemons, papaya, oranges, and lime in the same way. Do this about 2-3 times per week to remove plaque buildup that occurs through everyday eating.

From reading online consumer comments, it’s our impression that people frequently prefer using a smaller brush head. However, these same posters also frequently mentioned that the heads tended to wear out more quickly than Standard ones, thus making them the more expensive option.
These are great replacement toothbrush head for my Sonicare brush handle. I was using the oem brush head from sonicare for the past 2 years until I realized that there were cheaper alternatives online. I decided to give these a try and they function the exact same as the sonicare ones.Out of the box, the brush heads come with all the colored rings and brush head covers like the real ones do.
These brushes give the impression of having a superior design and build. However while we do believe this is point is accurate, actually quantifying this difference in comparison to other models is difficult. (That’s why we’ve sought out sources involving user/owner input when formulating this page.)
A point of order about the word “sonic”: Per advertising from Sonicare that is now close to two decades old, some people take this to mean that sonic toothbrushes “knock off plaque” with “sound waves.” This is not an effect proven in any research.
