Compared to Sonicare, you’re much more limited in brush head style and size. However, the small, pointed Precision Tip is a design not duplicated in the Sonicare line and could be a valuable aid for some. Overseas travelers may be inconvenienced by the lack of 220volt charging.
The best brush head to use from the range is the DiamondClean head, be that the Compact or Standard sized option.  The tightly compacted diamond shaped bristles create a stain-removal pad and offers a superior clean and can whiten teeth in just one week, through effective cleaning and stain removal.
Everyone develops plaque because bacteria are constantly growing in our mouths, so it is not easy to see. Plaque that is not removed from around the gum line can cause inflammation and irritation to the gums around your teeth.
Ease of using the brush: We also asked our testers to rate how easy the toothbrushes were to maneuver. We wanted toothbrushes that would help us maintain proper technique — holding the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums with short tooth-wide strokes. Some, like the Jim Ellis, made our tester’s hand tired and came with a circular handle that was “difficult to maneuver or twist around.” (Note: we were curious about this comment, so we ran some additional tests on handle comfort and found that slightly more square handles — pretty standard for most models — are actually much easier to handle). Our testers reported that others, like the Fairywell, were “lighter and a bit less rounded so it was easier to maneuver around and hold for the duration of cleaning.”
That salary information is wrong! I’ve been a dental hygienist for ten years and on average, a full time, 32 hours per week, hygienist makes about 42,000$ per year. It’s a bad career choice with no way out. The statement that hygienists are in demand in also incorrect. In most of the southeastern states the market is saturated. Too many hygienists! Dentists won’t advertise job openings anymore because they get hit with so many applicants!
For their study, Fiala and colleagues isolated immune cells from blood samples taken from Alzheimer’s patients and healthy volunteers for comparison. The immune cells they were interested in are known as macrophages: these go around gobbling up waste products like amyloid beta that can otherwise clog up the spaces between cells and interfere with cell-to-cell signaling.
I want to say thank you for the information. For all of you that are talking about its the worst advise. Remember back in the old days there were no dentist, an these remedy she’s talking about with the lemons and other home remedies are what or great Grandparents and relatives use on their teeth. My grandparents and great grandparents all had beautiful health teeth using this method. An I think if it was good for them and they were healthy without all these illnesses we have today. I say do it if you want if you don’t that’s you. But think about all the stuff you put in your mouth on a daily basis. Home Remedies are good. This is a good remedy.
The colors in this pack of three toothbrushes will vary. This has been tested and evaluated by dental professionals and is commonly recommended by dental health professionals, like The Dental Insider. It also has outstanding reviews online.

Hyposmia is a partial or complete loss of the sense of smell. It can be disturbing for the individual, but it can also be hazardous if they cannot detect, for example, a toxic gas. Causes include allergies and head injuries. It may be linked to diabetes and multiple sclerosis (MS). Treatment will depend on the cause.
I have the fancy Sonicare and its travel case also charges the brush with a USB cable attached. I’ve traveled over several continents with it and the battery lasts so long on a charge I normally don’t need to even charge it while traveling for two weeks at a time.
The Oral-B Pro 1000 is many consumers’ first choice of an electric toothbrush. It is inexpensive, it cleans well, and it is easier to use when compared to most high-end models that come with smartphone apps and Bluetooth connections. As all other Oral-B models, it is oscillating, so that makes it a bit slower when compared to our top choice – the Sonicare 2 Series. When tested, we found the Pro 1000 is also not as gentle on the gums. We believe that to be due to the harder bristles on the brush head.
There are a number of ‘travel case’ style units, but this one is much better made than most of them. It’s also FDA registered. Note: this works well for both electric brush heads as well as regular toothbrushes. It’s designed to be for travel purposes, but you can of course use it at home too – it’s got little feet that mean it doesn’t slide around so won’t easily get knocked off the counter top. As a travel unit it runs only from batteries (2 x AAA). The UV treatment starts as soon as you close the case and runs for about 5 to 6 minutes. You should get at least a months use out of 1 set of even average batteries.
The Quip is a no-frills toothbrush with a single brush head style and a simple timer that indicates each 30-second interval, shutting off at the two-minute mark. This is the only brush we tested that uses replaceable batteries instead of a built-in rechargeable battery. Quip has an unusual business model—the only way to get a new brush head is through the company’s website, which encourages a subscription that sends a replacement every three months. Though you can purchase individual brush heads separately for $5 with free shipping, if you need a spare head you can’t just run to the store to get a new one. (And you’d better keep spare or rechargeable AAAs around.) The overall pricing structure is a bit confusing, and the store page defaults to the more expensive metal brushes, but toggling the interface gives you access to the slightly less expensive plastic brushes. Although the stylish design (of the more expensive metal model) and the quiet operation are both impressive, we found the vibrations to be weak. The Quip could be a nice option for someone who travels a lot and prefers the freedom of no charger, but it doesn’t have the brush head options or wide availability of our main pick.
The Goby is a brand-new product without the track record of Philips or Oral-B. Though we’re impressed by the Goby for its simplicity and efficacy, we can’t say yet how long it will last with daily use. It is simply too new a product and too new a company to know. Goby offers a lifetime warranty on its brush, but, as of now, it’s unclear if the company will outlive your brush.
Back in March 2010, Consumer Reports performed its own tests for plaque removal and concluded, “[T]he two priciest brushes removed 75 percent or more of plaque in our tests, on average.” In the years following those tests, two of the top models have been discontinued and replaced by similar ones, and one has been recalled; as of May 2016, CR no longer tests toothbrushes at all. GHI’s recommendations don’t say much and do not explain whether expensive features are really necessary.
Although it’s not necessary to work as a dental hygienist, a graduate degree in the field can propel you into careers in education, leadership, advocacy and administration. Dental hygienists with advanced dental hygienist schooling often go on to work as:
So, I bought the Oral-B. I have used the app, and while it has some annoyances, the ability to track my toothbrushing habits is cool. I am a tech nerd after all. Reminders for flossing and mouthwash are on by default, but you can disable them. A suction mount to hold your phone on your bathroom mirror is included. I also like that you can setup the app to automatically order replacement brush heads through Amazon when the one you’re using at the end of its life. I found the overall noise to be more than tolerable, but there’s also usually music playing in my home no matter the hour.
The bristles are some 25% softer than most other brush heads and the bristles are trimmed in such as way that the experience on the teeth and gums should be softer and more enjoyable for those with sensitive teeth and gums.
I like the product very much. I just received it yesterday, but I was having trouble with the connection. The usb did not fit well into the plug provided by the product. The light did not go on, so I knew it was not cleaning the brush. I connected the usb to my cell phone charger plug and it works well. I would like the company to send me a replacement plug, so I don’t have to use my cell charger.
Sonicare replacement heads for Philips sonic heads work and fit good on my son’s electric Sonicare toothbrush. It would be good having an extra toothbrush head in handy, so replace them when needed. The product is a good value for the price and working good. The brush self is the very soft brush. it comes with each individual cap, so good to store/carry the toothbrush.
Sterline also offers the widely marketed UV clean technology that is supposed to kill 99.9% of bacteria on brush heads. Arguably, once the brush heads are stored inside the case, the UV lights are activated and leftover germs are eliminated. This is something that we are not completely sold on. It has nothing to do with the brand, but with the technology itself. There is very little academic research to support these claims, and frankly, we could not find any that is reliably associated with well-known faculties.
As mentioned above, this was only a laboratory study. And because of that, one would have to assume that its conditions were relatively ideal as opposed to what may exist in the mouth. And for that reason, these same level of results may not take place in the oral environment.
I’ve decided to go all-out and use a combination of electric (sonic) toothbrush and a Waterpik. I noticed that Waterpik sells a combo package that appears to be targeted at consumers like myself. Do you have any comments on the Waterpik brand sonic toothbrush?
1. Pull the brush head away from the brush handle with a small amount of force to release the connection. There will likely be a click and you will revel a metal prong that is the shaft that connects to the motor. The head is now detached.
Picked up this unit a few weeks after a dental cleaning. After 5 1/2 months of using it the tartar that would normally be on the back of my lower incisors was virtually nonexistent. The dental hygienist probably spent half the time she normally does scraping and picking. She noticed a big difference.
We find the best of everything. How? We start with the world. We narrow down our list with expert insight and cut anything that doesn’t meet our standards. We hand-test the finalists. Then, we name our top picks.
This range of brush heads includes: DiamondClean (standard & compact sizes), Adaptive Clean (standard & compact sizes), Intercare (standard), ProResults (standard & compact sizes), ProResults Plaque Control (standard), ProResults Gum Health (standard), Sensitive (standard), Simply Clean (standard & compact sizes) and For Kids (standard & compact sizes), C3 Premium Plaque Control (standard), G3 Premium Gum Care (standard), W3 Premium White (standard).
String cords, on the other hand, are hard to get around your finger and they often rip while flossing. Not to mention, sometimes it is quite difficult to reach the rear teeth of your mouth. However, if you have tight space between your teeth, no toothbrush will do the job as efficiently as a flossing cord.
Foods to Eat: Eat foods that are high in fiber to help reduce the absorption of cholesterol from the intestines. Include plenty of low-fat foods, low-sodium foods such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains in your diet.
The first bacteria to colonize the pellicle after you’ve cleaned your teeth consists of gram positive, rounded aerobic bacteria, especially Streptococcus sanguinis. Within just minutes of initial attachment, the oxygen rich environment inside your mouth causes them to reproduce and grow into micro-colonies. Then, other bacteria join in, notably Streptococcus mutans, one of the main bacterial causes of dental caries. Streptococcus mutans produce an enzyme called glucosyltransferase, which converts sucrose (sugar) into exopolysaccharides. These exopolysaccharides are sticky, allowing more bacteria to adhere.
You say that you’ll buy replacement heads every month or two. Why so frequently? The ADA recommends replacing toothbrushes every 3-4 months. Do these heads really need to replaced that much more frequently?

The Genius Pro 8000 comes equipped with a travel case that is also a charging station. It can charge your smartphone as well as your toothbrush using only one outlet. We found that when fully charged, the Lithium ION battery lasts 12 days when brushing twice a day.
Many Sonicare brushes feature Quadpacer or BrushPacer. These functions signal when you should advance to cleaning the next portion of your mouth. Not everyone values this type of indicator. We state below which models allow you to deactivate it.
Please do NOT believe what you read!!! I work at a dental office as an assistant and have for 17 years, if your teeth look like this you MUST seek professional help to clean your teeth and have good overall health for your body. You can NOT take care of this on your own.
The Pro 1000 is among Oral-B’s least expensive models, but it comes with all the features most of our experts recommended, for the lowest price—a two-minute timer (with a nice-to-have quadrant alert) and a wide selection of compatible and affordable brush heads. And recently the Pro 1000 was among the first five electric toothbrushes to receive the ADA Seal of Acceptance. The Pro 1000 has comfortable-feeling oscillating bristles, a simple one-button interface, and a battery that lasted 11½ days with twice-daily use in our tests. The body survived drop tests on the floor and into water. Best of all, you’re not getting overcharged for features like digital monitors, travel cases, or inductive chargers—none of which will actually get your teeth any cleaner than the Pro 1000 can.

Like most electric toothbrushes by Philips, this one also comes with a rechargeable Lithium ION battery. Once fully charged, the battery should be able to last you 3 weeks if you brush twice a day using the “clean” setting. The “deep clean” setting is likely to exhaust the battery faster because it is operating at a higher speed and producing more brush strokes per minute.

The Interdental Tip brush heads are unlike any offered by Sonicare. They are ultra-small and their pointed nature makes them useful for brushing between teeth or hard to reach locations. (The Oral-B Pulsonic offers this type of brush head too.)
We switched the whole family from manual to the Sonicare brushes maybe a year ago and saw a pretty radical improvement in gum health. It’s impossible to tell how much of that came from the switch to electric and how much might be attributable to the type, but the subjective feeling of cleanliness with the Sonicare was remarkably different from other electrics I’ve tried in the past.
I bought Wirecutter’s Oral-B recommendation for a replacement about 9 months ago. I quickly found I couldn’t handle the small round brush head that came with it – it was unpleasant. I need a compact brush head so I purchased the DeepSweep brush head. It was a little big for my preferences but still a better option than the original brush head. That was more $$ on top of the Oral-B price, though still an overall good price. As I traveled with the Oral-B, I became increasingly annoyed by the lack of a sanitary cover accessory. Another difference is my Oral-B base stayed clean (as did my second Sonicare) but the Oral-B charger collected an unbelieveable amount of whitish gunk after just a week or so. Maybe it wouldn’t happen if I was using the small round brush head but my Sonicares did not collect gunk to this extent (some but not as much as Oral-B). So that is another turn off.
There are a variety of prevention and treatment options for clogged arteries. What your doctor prescribes to reduce arterial plaque and prevent clogged arteries will depend on the severity of your condition and your medical history. Your doctor may prescribe one or more of the following:
Tartar or calculus is formed when calcium and phosphate bind in your mouth they form crystals these crystal harden and thus you have tartar . Using toothpaste with tetrasodium pyrophosphate  helps to prevent tartar from forming by removing calcium and magnesium from our saliva inhibiting the formation of calculus. A clinical study on tartar was done over 12 week period using toothpaste with tetrasodium pyrophosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate  on 73 subjects who had a Volpe Manhold Calculus Index of 7.0 and greater. After the twelve weeks, the subjects saw a 43.5 % reduction in Calculus Index score. Triclosan is an antimicrobial which clinical studies shows kills the germs between our teeth and gum but some dentists believe this is not that important ingredient once we keep our mouth clean. These toothpaste can be easily be found in your local store check them out.
To become a dental hygienist, you’ll need either a 2- or 4-year degree in dental hygiene. Most programs are two years long and lead to an associate’s degree. They are offered through community colleges and technical colleges.
The best ways to prevent plaque from forming is to stick to good dental habits. Brush your teeth for two minutes at least twice per day (ideally once in the morning and once before you go to bed), and floss at least once per day.
When in doubt, throw it out. The suggestions on when to replace a toothbrush vary according to manufacturer. Keep it easy and follow the ADA guidelines — replace it every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed. If you have a fungal, yeast or viral infection in your mouth, replace your brush at the beginning of treatment and again at the end.
Floss between your teeth. Flossing is an essential component of effective oral hygiene, though unfortunately it is often neglected. Flossing removes bacteria and food particles from between the teeth, helping to prevent the formation of plaque. It should be done once a day, at bedtime, before brushing your teeth. Floss between teeth using a gentle sawing motion, and lifting the floss along the sides of the teeth. Avoid “snapping” the floss into place, as this can irritate the delicate gum tissue.
The point here is that dental care has become more than the ordinary people can afford today. So before a dental nurse gets critical maybe her boss needs to look over the prices he charges the people he services as it has become a difficult choice as much as health care has become.
The Goby has everything we look for (two-minute timer, rechargeable battery) and the company can deliver new brush heads every few months with a subscription. However, it offers only one brush head type.
The oscillating-rotating toothbrush is mostly developed by Oral-B. They have tested and perfected the design and technology over time. Currently, the idea of this type of toothbrush is to move slowly from tooth to tooth in order for more effective cleaning.
Since this is not a standard Sonicare feature, the only way to know for sure if the model you are considering provides for additional brush head storage is to closely inspect its packaging (text and/or images).
The key differences were in gene expression and trascription patterns. The Alzheimer’s patients’ macrophages expressed inflammatory genes differently to those of the healthy controls, and there were two distinct groups of Alzheimer’s patients. In one group, the macrophages had increased transcription of inflammatory genes, while in the other, the transcription was decreased.
Each of these have potential advantages based on your specific needs. Click a brush head type in the list below to jump to a detailed explanation of how it works, a list of places to buy, and a list of brushes it’s compatible with.
Wow. I have now bought and own both a FlexCare and a DiamondClean model. The difference in vibration between these models and the 2 Series is many times over. My teeth feel much cleaner, the strength/power of the vibrations is much more intense with these higher end models.
Omega 3 fatty acids are fats commonly found in marine and plant oils. They are considered essential fatty acids, meaning that they cannot be synthesized in the body but are vital for healthy metabolism. They are thought to play an important role in reducing inflammation throughout the body.
An advice to the Flecare+ is to also buy the diamond clean brush heads for even a smoother cleaning feeling or even the adaptive clean brush heads (The adaptive clean heads I think are very good but those I have not tried yet). The Flexcare brush head is very good to remove tartar, but the diamond clean makes your teeth even more silky and glossy and maybe slightly more comfortable to brush with, but already the Flexcare brush head is extremely good for the silky feeling.
Dentists recommend you brush your teeth for two minutes twice daily. A built-in timer, which either switches the toothbrush off at the two-minute mark or vibrates to indicate the time is up, makes it easier to achieve this goal.
Activated charcoal is a natural way to remove tartar and plaque it uses can date back to over 3000 year, long before we had toothpaste to brush our teeth. It has a number of medical uses such as removing poison and toxins from our body ,whitening teeth getting rid of bad breath  and removing tartar which we will be looking at.
Sterilized.. maybe but I hate to have to tell you it’s probably not clean in the sense most people are thinking. Soap leaves a residue that may or may not be harmful. Of course this depends on the soap your using.
When you first wear braces you will likely be told the importance of cleaning effectively around braces to avoid staining of when it comes to removal.  The natures of braces offers up lots of areas for small food particles to stick to.

It is worth noting that our previous pick, named the Oral-B Pro 1000 (also known in some contexts as the Healthy Clean Precision 1000), is still available and is functionally identical to the current Pro 1000. At the time of our last review, the Healthy Clean Precision 1000 included one of the pressure sensors we mentioned earlier, but despite what the Amazon listing says, the model we tested did not include it. The Healthy Clean Precision, therefore, is essentially the same toothbrush; it just comes in a different color and with a different brush head. Online pricing can be fluid and seems to be influenced by the popularity of an item, so get the one you can find cheaper.
I don’t remember that movie but that’s pretty funny. I really don’t know about the acidity and your tooth enamel. I would think that the flavor would not be appealing, though, to brush with. Do you rinse it before brushing? I think if you’re rinsing that would be ok. I’ve also heard about acidic foods and enamel erosion so it might be not be the best idea to brush with a vinegar sprayed brush. That’s just my opinion if it’s something you’re concerned about.
Sonicare models reviewed. – A comprehensive review of the features/prices of all of the current models of the Sonicare lineup. Differences and comparisons between each of the individual product lines are pointed out.
In 1898 Smith presented a lecture on his system of periodic oral prophylaxis, which required patients to attend regular visits for prophylactic treatment and education sessions around oral home care.[9]
As the son of a dentist (sounds bad, doesn’t it!) I can attest to people not brushing enough… I saw this many times, self-reported from patients. The timer helps, but I don’t believe that this is the only factor.
The Sonicare 2 Series isn’t without perks, though. When you first start using it, the Sonicare starts off with lower vibrations in order to ease you through the adjustment experience. Our tester appreciated this and told us “the fact that it gently eases into cleaning at full force over 14 sessions makes the experience feel more thoughtful.” We agree, and appreciate that the Sonicare focuses on getting you more comfortable with a proper brushing experience.

A sonic toothbrush is one that produces such high frequency vibrations that it makes a humming sound as you clean your teeth. These high frequency vibrations are the result of 24,000 to 48,000 vibrations per minute.
I got mine when I think they must have had only one model. Last time I tried to replace the brush, I had no idea of which one to get. I would also like to replace the unit, since the battery doesn’t hold well any more. Now I have some idea of where to start.
STAY AWAY FROM LISTERINE AND ALL THOSE OTHER terrible mouthwashes full of alcohol, chemicals, and all sorts of carcinogens and crap. Flouride (other than the organic form found in soil etc.) is another hot topic and I would highly advise to stay away from it as well. But if you want to keep using fluoride then go ahead but you can at least get a way better than mouthwash than complete and utter trash like listerine,
In 1910 the Ohio College of Dental Surgery offered a formal course for dental nurses. However, dentists in Ohio strongly opposed the formal training school, and those who completed the coursework were never allowed to practice. The course was soon to be discontinued in 1914 due to the backlash from the dental community.[9]

Brushing action – one of the most popular features with a Sonicare toothbrush is there 31,000 strokes per minute brushing action. The reason why this method of cleaning is so effective is because as the toothbrush five plates up this high frequency, it creates double dancing abilities. Not only is the surface debris and plaque cleaned away from the tooth, but the bristles can also clean debris away from the areas that they cannot touch. The models that offer this feature include the Diamond clean, flex care platinum, flex care source, healthy way, And most of the Sonicare series toothbrushes after the basic one. It is not included on their power up model.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the estimated growth in employment of dental hygienists is expected to be about 19% between 2014 and 2024 (www.bls.gov). This excellent job growth figure is attributed to the growing number of elderly in the United States and their increased need for dental care. According to the BLS, the median annual salary of a dental hygienist, as of May 2015, was $72,330.

The Sonicare Essence Plus comes with only one cleaning mode. But, that does not stop it from reaching the top speed of 31,000 brushes per minute. This makes it practically comparable to Philips’ 4 times more expensive DiamondClean model.
For many years, people have been using baking soda as a cleaning substance for teeth. It is slightly abrasive so it pries and files nasty stuff from the surface of enamel. All you need to do is take (only) one tablespoon of baking soda. Add a pinch of salt. Then, dampen a toothbrush and dip it into the mixture. Clean your teeth as you usually would and rinse thoroughly.
In order to stay up to date with manufacturing trends and technology, we have revamped our list of top performing electric toothbrushes in order to better reflect the current market. A market that is estimated to have grown to $4.1 billion in annual sales and is expected to double that number by 2021.
While the toothbrush performed very well in terms of brushing, we did not see much improvement in regards to whitening. According to Philips, 2 weeks of brushing twice a day should have resulted in teeth being whitened by 2 shades. Unfortunately, our test cannot confirm these claims.
Get a high quality butter oil / fermented cod oil mix which is extremely good for teeth (and general health) I highly suggest that Blue Ice brand (google it I can’t remember the exact name). They got 5 or 6 different products I’d highly recommend for teeth. Also get a vitamin K-2 supplement which gives you the MK-7 form. You want to make sure of 2 things with the K2 supplement: A. it uses olive oil (preferablly organic) as it’s carrier (this leaves out the Jarrows brand), B. it’s made from a fermented Japanese food called Natto using non-GMO soybeans. There are a few good brands for this, NutriGold is one and there was another I may have liked even a touch better than NutriGold but I can’t remember the name of of the brand now (I think it was more of a white bottle/label). But don’t forget about the Blue Ice products, seriously, they are amazing. Read about all the great successes people have had with the organic butter oil / fermented cod liver oil with regards to teeth/cavities, it’ll probably make all these so-called “professionals” crap their pants, their brains wouldn’t be able to handle it since it wasn’t indoctrinated into their heads by some brainwashing (in some ways, not all) textbook.
Electric toothbrushes on the whole aren’t exactly known for their ruggedness and longevity (at least not nowadays). So in an era of lowest-possible-cost manufacturing and planned-obsolescence product design, both initial and replacement costs should be factors that are considered.
The dental hygienists in some parts of North America can provide oral hygiene treatment based on the assessment of a patient’s needs without the authorization of a dentist, treat the patient in absence of a dentist, and also maintain a provider-patient relationship.
Picked up this unit a few weeks after a dental cleaning. After 5 1/2 months of using it the tartar that would normally be on the back of my lower incisors was virtually nonexistent. The dental hygienist probably spent half the time she normally does scraping and picking. She noticed a big difference.

AMEN, James!!! I LOVE that “fresh clean” feeling that I have first following a thorough cleaning at the dentist office. However, not everyone can AFFORD to have dental services done. This article helps those of us who don’t have $$$ to pay for the “luxury” of seeing a dentist
The truth is, the dentists we spoke to all agreed that how you brush is more important than what you brush with. Proper brushing technique (and flossing) are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. So it’s certainly possible to clean your teeth effectively with a manual toothbrush, and if you and your dentist are happy with these results, there’s probably no need to switch. But if your pearly whites have room to improve, an electric toothbrush’s oscillating or vibrating battery-powered bristles make it easier to maintain good technique to remove even more plaque.
I have used an electric toothbrush for almost 7 years. I have had three total – two Sonicares and the Oral-B recommended in this post. The $$ involved for electric toothbrushes gives me pause but I cannot go back to manual (goosebumps).
We agree. We find it hard to believe that the “knock off” brushes adhere to the same stringent standards of the Sonicare brush heads (proper bristle stiffness/flexibility, rounded bristle ends, etc…).
G3 Premium Gum Care (introduced with DiamondClean Smart) – Absorbs excess cleaning pressure to protect the gums. 2 times more surface contact. Automatically selects optimal cleaning mode for the best results. (Compatible brush required)
Hello guys! Thank you so much for all of the reviews about the Sonicares. However I still don´t know which one to buy. My main reason for buying a Sonicare is because it should whiten the teeth. Should I get the Healthy White or all the other similar ones will do the job?
Functional Design – High quality standard medium bristles replacement Sonicare toothbrush heads made with end-rounded US Dupont Tynex Nylon bristles for offer exceptional cleaning of tooth surface and deep between the teeth.Effectively removes plaque without irritating gums.
Security: The services that dental hygienists provide are needed and valued by a large percentage of the population. There is currently a great demand for dental hygienists. Employment opportunities will be excellent well into the future. Due to the success of preventive dentistry in reducing the incidence of oral disease, the expanding older population will retain their teeth longer, and will be even more aware of the importance of regular dental care. With the emphasis on preventive care, dentists will need to employ more dental hygienists than ever before to meet the increased demand for dental services.
Roughly speaking, sonic toothbrushes are somewhat similar to regular ones. Their purpose is to quickly move back on forth over the exterior of the teeth in order to scrub away plaque and food debris. Where they differ, however, is the speed of movement with which they operate.
This article approached the topic exactly as I would have and was so helpful! I had started to get confused about the subtle differences between models I was considering; your summary and all the related info was just the ticket. Thanks for taking the time to create it–a very valuable service.

There is a really easy and clever way to check if you have a plaque build-up on your teeth. Take some food colouring – just the regular stuff found in supermarkets – and add it to a teaspoon of water. You can use this mini mixture as a plaque highlighting solution. However, you are advised to rub a little petroleum jelly on your lips first to avoid stains. You only need to gargle with the food colouring and then spit it out. You should be left with light patches of colour where the most stubborn plaque accumulations are; concentrate brushing here.
You can follow all the essentials for dental hygiene , but you won’t have a pleasant breath unless you have a clean stomach. In fact many a times when we have a bad breath, the cause is an unclean stomach and not a lack of oral hygiene.
Remember: food residues, especially sweets, provide nutrients for the germs that cause tooth decay, as well as those that cause gum disease. That’s why it is important to remove all food residues, as well as plaque, from teeth. Remove plaque at least once a day — twice a day is better. If you brush and floss once daily, do it before going to bed.
You should ensure that you only buy authentic and genuine Sonicare brush heads for your toothbrush so that you can be sure that the bristles will be effective at cleaning your teeth and so that the brush head will not have any impact on the sonic action from the brush handle itself.
The very expensive Oral-B SmartSeries Black 7000 comes with a “digital guide,” another (unnecessary) abstraction of a timer, and six brushing modes programmed to a separate power button. The base is very heavy, with large rubber panels in black and silver plastic, and weighted toward the bottom, with the same light-up pressure sensor as the 4000 model. The 7000 comes with a travel case and a charging stand that can hold four extra brush heads encased in a little plastic dome.
This is the main focus of this page. Trying to determine which model seems to make a best (most reasonable) choice in terms of effectiveness, functionality, reliability and so forth, while also keeping cost to a minimum.

Budget Sonicare Difference Between Models

When I was a kid, my mom would stick the end of the thermometer under my tongue and tell me to gently close my mouth.  The image is having my lower jaw stuck forward a bit and a thermometer angled up and out of my mouth.
Tartar is also known as hardened plaque. It is composed of organic and inorganic compounds. The organic compounds consist of bacteria and the inorganic compounds consist of various minerals, mostly calcium phosphate crystals. It has been estimated that every gram of tartar has over 200 million bacteria.
I know you mean well however, I don’t think you are able to wrap your head around the fact that in some rural areas in the US there are no dental schools or affordable dental care available. Full stop. Considering the time and money required to actually visit a dentist when you are working a minimum or low wage job in areas with limited or no public transportation options, dental cleaning one or two times a year are not feasible. Don’t criticize people for seeking other options.
Another option that not all sellers and manufacturers like to give is a “money back guarantee”. In case they do offer it, make sure it is at least 1 month after purchase. Also, make sure the shipping and delivery dates are reasonable. You do not want to receive your toothbrush on the 30th day and not have time to claim your money back, in case it does not work or it is not up to your standards.
Plaque that is not removed can harden into tartar, a hard mineral deposit that forms on teeth and can only be removed through professional cleaning by a dental professional. When this happens, brushing and cleaning between teeth become more difficult, and gum tissue can become swollen or may bleed. This condition is called gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. Note/Nota
Most, though not all, of the brushes came with additional brush heads, which is nice because replacements can be costly. Some supplied 10 or more heads – presumably enough to last the life of the brush – though a few only came with one.

CVS Rechargeable Sonic (discontinued): Not too expensive as brushes go, but requires users to press the power button multiple times to cycle through the superfluous brushing modes to turn the brush off.
The Philips Sonicare 2 Series is one of the least expensive brushes in Sonicare’s line, but still has a two-minute timer, rechargeable battery, and makes less noise than our Oral-B pick. This pick has a smaller range of brush textures and shapes, but they are all soft and serviceable.
Hi Andy, thanks for stopping by. I’m not a chemist, but I found some information that might be helpful in regards to vinegar and baking soda together. One is a study from the University of Florida stating that baking soda and vinegar were effective at minimizing bacteria.
Reminder bristles ensure your most effective clean At first glance it may not be obvious, but brush heads lose stiffness and gradually wear down over months of normal use. Blue reminder bristles fade to white and help you recognise when it’s time for a replacement. For optimal results, replace your brush head every three months.
I went ahead and fixed the brush-head by separating the plate from the base of the head, and the magnets – from the plate, and gluing them with superglue, and now the brush is working just fine. But why should one have to do that?
I really like this system- seems to clean my teeth better than other brushes- also like the pause that lets you know you have cleaned one side long enough- this helps in not doing a sloppy job of cleaning. I have tried several other power toothbrushes and this is my favorite. I would say definitely worth the price. And this is an independent review – no samples for me!!
Hi, I’ve been a dental hygienist for almost 9 years and even though I’m currently in the midst of re-negotiating my pay and benefits with my employer, I have been very satisfied with my career overall. I did start out working for different offices but as of the last 6 years or so I’m only at one office and sometimes get calls to sub for another office (for a hygienist on vacation or something). I live in California and my lowest annual income was $68K and that was for working about 3 days a week. Last year I worked 4 days a week and made almost $89K. As a single parent of a daughter about to go off to college I can honestly say it is a great career if you want to be on your own two feet. I get 3 days of sick pay, 4 days of vacation and profit sharing. I was offered medical but it was too expensive so I got my own individual plans. Every career has it’s trade offs, burn outs, complaints and aches and pains but I would pick this one all over again if given the choice.
Regarding storing the toothbrush near toilet: my bathroom is very small so not only do I keep my toothbrush in a small glass of vinegar, I always keep the toilet lid down/closed when not in use. Gotta think this ‘containment’ helps, plus bathroom just looks better!
This is an all-round great tip, not just one for keeping your teeth healthy. Whether you like them or not, vegetables are a super ingredient. They are great for physical health and the teeth are no exception. Start munching on apples, celery sticks, carrots, and peppers to get your teeth looking strong and healthy in no time.
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Dental Hygiene offers a more thorough introduction to the field of dental science by including two years of clinical experience into its curriculum. The clinical component of the degree will train students in oral health assessments, oral disease examination, oral cancer screening procedures and filling and periodontal dressing removal and placement. Some B.S. programs may cover topics such as the administration of anesthetics and dental filling material placement. Some courses address dental science theory and may include:
The most significant thing about a powered toothbrush that might change over the course of its lifetime is the battery life; over the years, rechargeable batteries tend to lose capacity. In the case of a toothbrush, this might mean it becomes less powerful or not lasting as long while traveling.
These heads screw-on rather than snap in place (the only model in our Best list to use this type). This design tends to accumulate gunk and makes the brush slightly less convenient to use if it’s shared. [More details.]
The advanced ergonomic handle gives the Sensonic a smooth and sleek look. The blue rubber grip that runs down horizontally is perfectly positioned. Whether you are left or right handed, your fingers will always rest on the grip. This is perhaps the most comfortable toothbrush that we have tested.
“I’ve never spent more than $15 on a toothbrush before, even then, that’s rare, as I kind of always just used the ones my dentist provided for free every visit. I’ve never even seen a toothbrush like this or would’ve ever imagined one could be so expensive. So I looked at the reviews and pried away my wallet that was holding onto me for dear life, and decided to invest in this. And it’s changed my world (or at least the cleanliness of my teeth). Every time I brushed my teeth, it felt like going to the dentist and having them cleaned professionally. The first three times I used this, my gums bled like it was no one’s business. But the instant I was done, I could already feel that my teeth were smoother than the guy that invented pickup lines. I still haven’t figured out how to use the timer, or how to get the app, or even figure out why it has or how to use the Bluetooth, but I love this toothbrush.”
So, UV toothbrush cleaners produce UltraViolet light (hence the name) which kills the bacteria sitting on your toothbrush. The UV rays destroy the nucleic acids in the bacteria disrupting their DNA. This leaves pathogens unable to reproduce or function properly so they die out.
The overall appearance of the station is quite nice. It is not bulky or heavy, and it’s simple to use and operate. The brush has two speed levels. For me, the main power level tickles my gums, so I use the sensitive setting and it works much better.
The bristles are some 25% softer than most other brush heads and the bristles are trimmed in such as way that the experience on the teeth and gums should be softer and more enjoyable for those with sensitive teeth and gums.
Dental hygienists provide clinical services in a variety of settings such as private dental practice, community health settings, nursing homes, hospitals, prisons, schools, faculty practice clinics, state and federal government facilities and Indian reservations.
Flexible sides complement the unique bristle pattern design to remove up to 10 times more plaque, even in the hard to reach areas.  Cleaning thoroughly in between teeth and along the gumline, the soft rubbers sides of the Plaque Control brush head adapt to the contours of your mouth.
“We may find that we need to carefully balance the supplementation with vitamin D3 and omega-3 fatty acids, depending on each patient in order to help promote efficient clearing of amyloid-beta,” says Fiala.
Unlike dental assistants, whose job duties must generally be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, dental hygienists perform much of their work independently, with only general supervision from a licensed dentist.
A nice perk of all Sonicare brushes, including the 2 Series, is that the brush heads come with a tiny plastic hood you can snap off and on to guard against the coliform sprays flying around one’s bathroom if you store your toothbrush in open air. The cap is easy to lose, but it’s a nice touch.
The Colgate Smart Electronic Toothbrush E1 uses on-board sensors and “artificial intelligence” to track the brush head’s location as you move it around your mouth. (For more on our experience with the smart capabilities of the E1, see “Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 Review: Who Needs a Smart Toothbrush?”) The E1 vibrates but does not oscillate, and does so more quietly than most electric toothbrushes we’ve tested. Although it does have an on-board two-minute timer with quadrant pacing, this device lacks a pressure sensor (a possible dealbreaker for some), and it is compatible with only a single style of replacement brush heads, which can be purchased only from the Colgate website. Factoring in shipping costs, these replacement heads are among the most expensive we’ve considered, by far (a definite dealbreaker, in our opinion). The handle itself is among the lightest and most streamlined we’ve tested, featuring a single on-off button (Colgate doesn’t offer superfluous cleaning modes). As with other smart toothbrushes, we believe the E1 is overkill for most. However, if you’re interested in accurate brush head position detection along with automated habit-tracking, and would prefer not to grant another app access to your phone’s camera and/or microphone, the E1 performs well in these respects (and—replacement brush heads excluded—generally costs less than its closest competitors, the Oral-B Genius 8000 and the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected).
This enzyme can help to strengthen the walls of the arteries and cleans out plaque. Some is made in the body and foods containing CoQ10 are lean meats, canola oil, and broccoli, cauliflower and CoQ10 supplements.
When it comes to the type of handle (such as non-slip grip or flexible neck), shape of the head (tapered or rectangular) and style of bristles (such as rippled, flat or trimmed to a dome shape), pick whatever is most comfortable for you. The best toothbrush is one that fits your mouth and allows you to reach all teeth easily
Dental hygienists in the United States must be graduates from a dental hygiene program, with either an associate degree (most common), a certificate, a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree from a dental hygienist school that is accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA).[31]
The Mesa Community College program is accredited by The Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Don’t overlook the fact that the vast majority of cleaning accomplished by any type of electric is due to bristle-to-tooth contact. The effectiveness of non-contact brushing comes in at a very distant 2nd.
We spent 10 weeks reading through medical journals, researching online and speaking to manufacturers and dental professionals. As a result, we made up a solid list of rotary and sonic toothbrushes to test, rate and review.
All contemporary high-end electric toothbrushes come standard with rechargeable batteries that are charged using inductive charging. Such toothbrushes are not new to the market, however, they have been subjected to continuous improvement based on scientific research. Or, so do large manufacturers want us to believe.
The 4.8-ounce toothbrush comes with a 17-ounce charging glass and a 6-ounce travel charging case – a fair amount to bring with you in a suitcase. We liked the sensors on the brush that let you know when you’re brushing too hard, and spots you’ve missed. A good tool for a bad brusher.
The toothbrush itself does not breathtakingly eye-catching. It will not give a futuristic look to your bathroom cabinet. But, with 31,000 vibration movements per minute, it will do the job. In addition, you get 3 brushing modes: Clean, Soft, and Massage. That is, 2 more mode than you get for the similarly priced Sonicare 2 Series.
Would dental hygiene be a good career while still pursuing another. I was thinking that I could do DH since its short & then use that to work and pay through another career…I don’t know may be dental school?
I actually ended up buying it because my previous 1000 had died, and I can confirm it is exactly the same (except for a color change). It works with all the normal rotating brush heads. They actually have a brush-head compatibility chart on their site that shows you what it’s compatible with.
AMEN, James!!! I LOVE that “fresh clean” feeling that I have first following a thorough cleaning at the dentist office. However, not everyone can AFFORD to have dental services done. This article helps those of us who don’t have $$$ to pay for the “luxury” of seeing a dentist
In addition to this, we have excluded internationally made and shipped models. We found that such models often lack appropriate warranty and guarantees for the American consumers. They also tend to be quite scarce in replacement parts. Not to mention that it would take 3-4 weeks to get the desired replacements.
The sanitizer reviews above will suit almost everyone. But there is one other option that a lot of people like too. The Steripod toothbrush sanitizer (get them here) – which is a totally different approach. There is no UV light, no batteries, just a little ‘pod’ that you clip onto the head of your brush after using it.
Focus on each tooth individually. Pay attention to each tooth as you brush, making sure that you don’t miss any. Remember to brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces and the chewing surfaces, and pay some special attention to those hard to reach teeth at the back. Brushing your teeth properly should take about two minutes — try using a stopwatch to get a feel it, and hum a song to yourself to pass the time.
The Dental Hygiene program offers a rigorous, intensive, science-based curriculum, balanced with personal development, creating a whole person educational approach. Graduates are awarded an Associate’s in Applied Science degree and become eligible to take the written and clinical exams necessary to obtain a license in Dental Hygiene.
(a) You can use with a Waterpik (this is the most effective method) which I will discuss later in this post. Periogen is in a powder form you can add one to two scoop in the Waterpik reservoir depending on the thickness of the tartar. Use warm water which will make cleaning easier on your gum.Apply for two to three week for full results.
At about 4.5 ounces, the Philips Sonicare 2 is easy to use and comfortable to hold. It arrived with a bit of a charge, but the manufacturer still recommends an overnight charge before use. Fully charged, it will run for two weeks. As with most of its rivals, its warranty lasts two years. While there are many brush heads in the Philips range, only one comes with the Sonicare 2. Blue “reminder bristles” change to white as they wear down. This color change serves as a reminder to replace the head, and we think it’s an excellent feature.
In order to fully charge, the Pro 1000 took about 16 hours. This is 8 hours less than the Pro 7000 took. It also lasted longer than the Pro 7000 by 2 days (10 days total). Since there is only one brushing mode available, we were not able to play around and conduct different time-based tests.

This is some of the worst advice I have ever seen! Just curious…..do you have a degree in dentistry?? Using baking soda on a regular basis is very abrasive on the teeth which in turn can cause erosion to the enamel and sensitivity. Rubbing citrus fruits on teeth? Are you kidding me? The acid from the citrus can cause erosion on the teeth, which in turn causes sensitivity, in some cases sensitivity bad enough to the point that restorative dentistry needs to be done. We see it all the time with people that suck on lemons! And suggesting using a “dental pic” as you call it…it’s called a scaler; should NEVER be done by anyone other than a hygienist or dentist. You can cause damage to the gum tissue if you don’t know what you’re doing. Stupid advice! All of it is nonsense! Don’t do any of these things! Get the tarter/calculus removed by a professional!

So we looked for, at minimum, brushes with a two-minute timer, but still wanted to test higher-end brushes to compare their usability against that of the simplest models. We eliminated brushes without rechargeable batteries because loose batteries are a hassle and a waste. We also eliminated models that were reviewed as loud or having either short battery life or a too-small range of compatible brush heads. If a brush was compatible with a wide range of brush heads, that was a small point in its favor.
This older Oral-B model is still available and still being manufactured. Thus, it comes with a two-year warranty and is about 4 times cheaper than Oral-B’s high tech 7000, 8000 and 9000 series. If you are looking to stay under $60, but still want an electric toothbrush, we highly recommend the Pro 1000 series.
Take advantage of this by being a model patient. Brush and floss regularly. Eat a healthy diet, filled with plenty of fruit and vegetables. And keep up with regular check-ups and appointments, because your visits to the dentist are what determine whether you need a quick clean or a more extensive treatment. To make the former more likely, give your teeth the tender love and care that they deserve.
4. Job outlook (especially in my home state of Texas) I am willing to relocate to any part of Texas or across the country for my job if need be. (I have already moved across the ccountry because one of my parents had a job opportunity).
Even though the above mechanisms can partly or fully help to remove plaque and tartar at some point you should see a  dental professional because he or she would be able to see dental problem you cannot recognize.
This is by no stretch of the imagination the most technological electric toothbrush on the market. As a matter of fact, it is quite the opposite. While it does have the patented 3D cleaning action (oscillating, pulsating and vibrating), a functioning pressure sensor and a timer, the 1000 series comes only with one cleaning mode. Despite being short on cleaning functions, we found this toothbrush to be quite effective in removing plaque.
On the other end of the spectrum, dental hygienists in Kansas have a much broader list of allowable job duties, with most functions permitted to be performed under the general supervision of a licensed dentist. The only function that needs to be completed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in Kansas is the administration of local anesthesia, and the only function not allowed to be performed is the placement of sutures.
This toothbrush work great for about a month. Then the power began to wane and is now completely dead and does not work. I bought this toothbrush in December so it didn’t even last 6 months. My fiance has a toothbrush as well bought at the same time and while her still turns on the power is definitely not the same period I suspect hers will be going out soon.
Unlike dental assistants, whose job duties must generally be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, dental hygienists perform much of their work independently, with only general supervision from a licensed dentist.
Dental hygienists holding an associate degree have opportunities to pursue a baccalaureate degree through degree completion programs specifically designed to advance their education. Many of these programs are offered in either full-time or part-time options and have online or distance education opportunities. Dental hygienists who have completed a baccalaureate degree can pursue a graduate degree in dental hygiene or related discipline. Dental hygienists with advanced degrees have broader opportunities for alternative careers within dentistry, dental education and health care delivery.

“I like the Oral B Braun brush for its circumferential action on the tooth surface,” says David Tecosky, a Philadelphia-based dentist. A pressure sensor lets you know when you’re brushing too hard, and an in-handle timer pulses every 30 seconds to signal that it’s time to move to a different part of your mouth.
A 2014 study published in the International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences showed that guava leaf extract causes a reduction in the adhesion of early plaque. It has excellent antibacterial and biofilm-inhibition activity against Streptococcus mutans that cause dental plaque.
Remember, it’s not so much about getting your whole mouth clean in less than 2 minutes.  Be willing to give the inside of the lower front teeth the attention necessary to keep this area clean.  Doing so will help the whole mouth stay healthier.
The Cybersonic 3 Complete Sonic and Cybersonic Classic came up in our product searches, but we decided not to test them because they have a very limited selection of brush head options (with an optional and dubious-looking “free” replacement program that winds up costing $8 in shipping per brush head).

not true for all areas. I live in a small town with lots of dental offices. the office I work at now we have hygienists working part time (24hr/week) and making $78,000/year. plus they get vacation time sick time holiday pay and yearly bonuses.
Motor-powered toothbrushes with 30,000+ brush strokes per minute will save you time. They will truly clean the visible parts of the teeth, as well as between teeth that are not tightly squeezed. Where they will fail, however, is reaching the deep and dark parts of teeth that are very close to each other.
That’s not necessarily a problem, or even completely correct. Even if the tip of the bristle is essentially immobile, it’s possible for a pressure wave to be transmitted through the various media involved.
They are quite unsightly and can spoil a lovely smile, so cleaning is a really useful thing for patients. It cannot, of course, be a substitute for regular brushing and flossing. If you want your teeth to stay healthy (and in your mouth), you need to clean properly, avoid eating too much sugar, and be on friendly terms with your local dental specialist.
If I still had insurance that allowed a dentist, I would go in a heartbeat! Unfortunately, that isn’t going to happen. I am lucky to have enough money for gas a week before I get another check. I will do anything not to get bad teeth until I can get on my feet again after I finish school.
Since before recorded history, a variety of oral hygiene measures have been used for teeth cleaning. This has been verified by various excavations done throughout the world, in which chew sticks, tree twigs, bird feathers, animal bones and porcupine quills have been found. In historic times, different forms of tooth cleaning tools have been used. Indian medicine (Ayurveda) has used the neem tree, or daatun, and its products to create teeth cleaning twigs and similar products; a person chews one end of the neem twig until it somewhat resembles the bristles of a toothbrush, and then uses it to brush the teeth. In the Muslim world, the miswak, or siwak, made from a twig or root, has antiseptic properties and has been widely used since the Islamic Golden Age. Rubbing baking soda or chalk against the teeth was also common; however, this can have negative side effects over time.[4]
Im about to start Dental Hygienist school. But i saw some from saying that DH is not a good idea, i wont find a job, i will have to depend of the dentist for everything, i will have to work in different places to get hours working. im worried.
Toothbrushes for kids have soft bristles and tend to get frayed fast. Check if the bristles are bent or changed at all from their normal shape. If they are, change the toothbrush. Usually kids require a new toothbrush after a month and a half.

They found that both the active forms of vitamin D3 and omega 3 DHA improved the ability of the macrophages from the Alzheimer’s patients’ blood samples to absorb amyloid beta. They also noticed there was less of the cell-death that is normally triggered by amyloid beta.

Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection caused by bacteria under the gum tissue that begin to destroy the gums and bone. Teeth become loose, chewing becomes difficult, and teeth may have to be extracted. Gum disease may also be related to damage elsewhere in the body; recent studies point to associations between oral infections and diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and preterm, low-weight births. Research is underway to further examine these connections.
The Dr. Collins Perio Toothbrush is unique because it has innovative tapered filaments that penetrate deep between the teeth and around the gums to remove plaque and debris, which offers a flossing effect. The super-slim tapered polyester bristles are less porous than nylon bristles and reduce tooth abrasion to save your tooth enamel. The bristles minimize bacterial growth and will stay put, so you won’t have to worry about them falling out or wearing out. In fact, the bristles are expected to last about 50% longer than a traditional toothbrush.
Which one is better? The short answer is, whichever one you are most likely to use twice a day as directed. If you follow your dentist’s instructions and you brush your teeth twice a day for 2 to 3 minutes, you will see positive results.
There must be a factor beyond the brush stokes per minute though because I can assure everyone the 2 Series 31,000 brush strokes per minute is weak, weak compared to the 31,000 DiamondClean and Flexcare I have.
And finally, snacking on aged cheeses (like Swiss or cheddar) can be a great way to neutralize the acids that accumulate right after meals. As these acids are what contribute to plaque build ups, you now have a perfectly valid excuse to be indulging your penchant for fine fromages. According to scientists, there is an element in aged cheese that acts as a buffering agent and a barrier for plaque. You can also find the same element in peanuts and sesame seeds.
Based on comments we’ve seen posted on our and retailer websites, it seems that there’s a general consensus that this brush is a step above the Sonicare 3 in terms of power and refinement, and therefore currently occupies a transition point in the Sonicare line up.
Guys please decide for yourselves ,,,,, for all those saying that people did not have regular dental visits a century ago, should also know that those people had different eating habits too they were not consuming as much ice creams, soft drinks, chocolates either
One study published in the Journal of Cancer Prevention Research found that poor oral health can increase your chances of getting an oral human papilloma virus infection, which can lead to developing certain oral cancers.
Leave your toothbrush head in mouthwash. Because mouthwash is an antiseptic, it can kill germs as well. The alcohol content is lower, however, so leave your toothbrush head in the liquid for several minutes.
In a small pilot study, a team of US researchers has discovered how vitamin D3, a form of vitamin D, and omega 3 fatty acids may help the immune system clear the brain of amyloid plaques, one of the physical hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.
The DiamondClean Smart line has been introduced. These brushes can be considered to be Sonicare’s top-of-the-line models, with a hefty price to match. As you’d expect, they can be used with a Sonicare brushing app on your smartphone.
Philips is committed to understanding and meeting the needs and desires of its customers. This is why Philips creates cutting-edge products that are user friendly. With 60,000 registered patents, Philips is a global leader in innovation, receiving numerous international design awards every year. Sonicare is the number one recommended brand by dental professionals.
“I cannot recommend this toothbrush enough. I have sensitive gums, so the three intensity levels are a nice feature. It also does an excellent job of plaque removal. You’ll still need to floss, but there won’t be much left at all, as seen by using plaque-disclosing tabs. The most noticeable difference is the whitening effect, too. I dipped for 11 years, and it had taken a toll on my teeth. This brush has definitely made a difference in that department. I’ll see if I can get dentist pics and update this later, but it’s really been huge. The design of the brush allows it to stay much cleaner than a lot of other electric brushes I’ve had in the past, too, which is nice. No nasty surprises when replacing heads, and it comes with a nice travel case as well. Highly recommended.”
Wow. I have now bought and own both a FlexCare and a DiamondClean model. The difference in vibration between these models and the 2 Series is many times over. My teeth feel much cleaner, the strength/power of the vibrations is much more intense with these higher end models.
There is a huge gap beween the brush head and the handle. It’s not flushed, water and toothpaste will get in between and eventually turn into mold. All the brush heads I got with the unit does this too! Is this a manufacturing defect?!
I much prefer the smaller circular heads as they are much easier to maneuver around your mouth and especially for spot scrubbing and getting behind the very back molars which is always a problem for me.
“Excellent toothbrush!!!!!! I had one of these years ago. It died, then I went to an off-brand electric until it died. What a mistake. I purchased this brand again. What a difference in the way your teeth feel after brushing. Super clean. If you’re a heavy coffee drinker like I am, then you need this brush. Excellent!!!!! I don’t think it’s rough as some of the other reviewers claim. It’s an electric, and it works really well. Even if it dies after a year’s use, I’d buy another quickly. Your dentist will love you for it. And long-term, it may just save your teeth for old age. Cheaper to replace this brush than to have expensive dental work done, in my opinion. Take care of your teeth. You’ll need them a long time!! Would I purchase again??? You bet.”
There are certainly times buying a new toothbrush is the best option. But if your toothbrush ends up in a place it shouldn’t have been or if you get sick right after you replace yours, you can save a little cash and disinfect your toothbrush.
A career as a dental hygienist offers a wide range of challenges. In the dental office, the dentist and the dental hygienist work together to meet the oral health needs of patients. Since each state has its own specific regulations regarding their responsibilities, the range of services performed by hygienists varies from state to state. Some of the services provided by dental hygienists may include:

These are great replacement toothbrush head for my Sonicare brush handle. I was using the oem brush head from sonicare for the past 2 years until I realized that there were cheaper alternatives online. I decided to give these a try and they function the exact same as the sonicare ones.Out of the box, the brush heads come with all the colored rings and brush head covers like the real ones do.
Just went on vacation and was battling the beginning of a cold. Did everything you can think of not to be sick on vacation and I conquered it and was great all through vacation. My son was prescribed a zpack before we left and took it starting a day before we left and immediately got better. FYI I took a diff toothbrush on trip. When I got back 2 weeks later (brushed with toothbrush I had at home) and my throat started hurting exactly how it had two weeks before and ended up having to take a zpack 1.5 weeks later to get rid of it. After reading this post I think it was my toothbrush. I store it in a plastic open container in a drawer so it is not upright and it is dark and now I see that bacteria can live 2 weeks in the dark and I live in a very humid area so very well could have been my toothbrush!!! Thanks for the great tips, I will change my toothbrush habits and teach my family too!!
At first glance, brushing your teeth can seem like a simple activity. After all, most of us do it at least once every day. But brushing your teeth actually requires a bit of skill. Fortunately, brushing with proper technique isn’t difficult to learn — it’s more about reminding yourself to do so. We gathered the most important techniques to keep in mind for a healthy smile.
Dentists recommend brushing at least twice a day, so it’s important that you have the right toothbrush to help you get the job done right. Your toothbrush should be replaced every three months, so you have plenty of time to experiment, but we’ve found some of the best ones to get you started.
Hi all, I am sure that it is a money thing when it comes to the cost of the lower end brushes to the upper-end ones. I am sure that there is a difference but not that much. Also, when looking at when to replace a brush, I believe it went from 6 months to 3 months, umm, because they make more money. I find it hard to believe it is because the brushes wear out that fast.
The Flexcare+ model is expensive, but it is really worth the (extra) money. It is rarely I am so happy with a product. The only negative things about it is that the charging time is little long, but on the other hand the time between the charging is around the 3 weeks claimed from Philips, which is excellent. The dropping in performance is not disturbing at all. You will notice a powerup after charging, but it runs very good until you need to charge it and the brushing experience is at an extremely high level all the time.
As another alternative to Sonicare, you might consider the WaterPik Sensonic Professional Plus (SR-3000). As with the Pulsonic, its features list places it in the same general category as the Sonicare models we discuss on this page.
Dental hygiene refers to the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease. Dental hygiene and oral health are often taken for granted but are essential parts of our everyday lives.

Reduced Oral Hygiene Without Toothpaste

The crux of this issue is that the Sonicare has no clinical evidence to show that it’s better at cleaning than a normal brush whereas the Oral-B does. Lots of it. You can click the links and read the papers for yourself.
All the big names in electric toothbrushes sell a variety of brush heads that work with their brushes. Along with standard brush heads, you’ll find brush heads for sensitive teeth, orthodontic work, extra whitening, extra plaque removal, and many others.
This paper is hardly new nor the definitive word on this subject, but notice how it states that the pressure applied when brushing is a significant factor in causing dentinal wear (which equates to root wear, abrasion). Opting for the most effective brushing mode and being extremely conscious of the amount of pressure you are using might make an acceptable compromise.
This can be a very strange experience, because the dentist moves in close and uses a special scraping instrument to, literally, force the plaque from the teeth. They tend to focus particularly hard on areas where the tarter has begun to form calcified spots. These can be seen a little white or yellow marks on the outer surface of the enamel.
Quit being such a know-it-all. Not every one can afford to go to a dentist or even have dental insurance for that matter. If it even helps a little bit, then it’s better for them to try it than to let their teeth and gums go to pot. Just my opinion and probably many others.
The fluid forces that were generated by the sonic toothbrush were able to produce the following cleaning effects in the listed time frames. 58% plaque reduction at 5 seconds, 63% plaque reduction at 10 seconds, 76% plaque reduction at 15 seconds.
If you are lucky, your Philips Sonicare will fail while still under guarantee, and they will replace it. Our experience was it failed just after the guarantee expired. Knowing we liked it, someone bought us another one. Guess, what, it too failed (just within guarantee).
At the time of writing there are an extensive range of electric toothbrush models available from Sonicare, so it is understandable that it is not all that simple to understand which brush head is suitable for your toothbrush.
As you’ll see below there’s a giant price difference between the top and bottom-end Sonicares. And based on this single factor alone, it’s easy enough to anticipate that while some models may share similar features and specifications, they’re probably not really equals. (It’s been our experience that some Sonicare representatives are pretty quick to harp this point when you call with questions.)
Give it lots of fresh air. Store your toothbrush in an open-air holder, not in a dirty cup, drawer or travel case. That can promote the growth of mold or bacteria that isn’t natural to your mouth, leading to mouth diseases like gingivitis. “If you have any question about the effectiveness of your toothbrush, just get a new one,” advises Dr. Kahn.
Then there is another thing in the beginning, but not really negative, that you get a tickling feeling when you use the toothbrush. The feeling is really surprising, but after a while of using the brush it almost disappears completely. It is quite drastic in the beginning, but in a way I am missing the feeling a bit. After charging the feeling comes back a bit :-).
Dental hygienists typically need an associate’s degree in dental hygiene. Bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in dental hygiene also are available, but are less common. A bachelor’s or master’s degree usually is required for research, teaching, or clinical practice in public or school health programs.
Otherwise, you’re basically saying, “this one works better for me, for the things that I like,” i.e. it makes your mouth feel cleaner (to which I will add that you’ve provided no evidence other than “it feels cleaner to me”). That is great for you if that’s what you care most about. I think most people would prefer the brush with clinical evidence backing it up.
Brushing and flossing have the same oral hygiene goals but are inherently different. Even though a lot of toothbrush manufacturers like to claim that their products can readily replace string floss, this is often not the case.
Dental hygienists in the United States must be graduates from a dental hygiene program, with either an associate degree (most common), a certificate, a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree from a dental hygienist school that is accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA).[31]

Several weeks ago the base unit’s UV light ceased working. While the base unit was still charging the handle just fine, it was no longer cleaning it. I received a new replacement only after sending my existing unit back. I would have liked to have continued using the original unit while I waited for the new one to arrive, but that was a minor inconvenience.
Cons: How cheap my boss can be, he doesn’t ever want to spend money on equipment for the office. The commute to work is horrendous. And the stress level is so high because it is a very fast paced office.
They found that both the active forms of vitamin D3 and omega 3 DHA improved the ability of the macrophages from the Alzheimer’s patients’ blood samples to absorb amyloid beta. They also noticed there was less of the cell-death that is normally triggered by amyloid beta.
The unique characteristic of a sonic toothbrush is the way it creates a secondary cleaning action (one that helps to clean beyond where the brush’s bristles actually touch) due to the manner in which it agitates the fluids that surround your teeth. (Here’s how this works.)
Dental hygienists can become members of the New Zealand Dental Hygienists’ Association.[28] The association was founded in 1993,[29] and is affiliated with the International Federation of Dental Hygienists.[30]
A Bachelor of Oral Health is the most common degree program. Students entering a bachelor’s degree program are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Most Bachelor of Oral Health programs now qualify students as both dental hygienists and dental therapists, collectively known as oral health therapists.[22]
You scrub food off of your teeth with it and you brush the icky film off of your tongue with it, but then you  do no more than rinse it and give it a perfunctory shake to clean it.  It’s your toothbrush and cleaning it thoroughly will help you get through this winter’s cold and flu season a little healthier.
There are plenty of free apps—including Oral-B’s for Android and iOS—that can be used with non-“smart” brushes, powered or manual, to help you time and track your toothbrushing, remind you to clean your tongue and floss, and so on. Dr. Lopez-Howell pointed to The Children’s Oral Health campaign’s 2min2x website, produced in collaboration with the Ad Council, which offers a series of two-minute videos kids can watch while brushing.
normally, you soak in vinegar to disinfect, then use baking soda to turn it into water after it has been disinfected.. then the water can evaporate nicely and leaves no vinegar smell. awesome for furniture. i wouldn’t do it on my toothbrush.

For those who want a toothbrush that will do everything but your taxes, the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean is our top pick. With an accurate pressure sensor, an indicator for replacing the toothbrush head, and a compatible brushing app, the DiamondClean is an excellent option for those who want access to all of the possible features that can help with mastering technique.
For those who have sensitive teeth, we recommend the Oral-B 1000. Unlike its sonic counterparts, the Oral-B 1000 provides around 8,000 strokes per minute, meaning you won’t feel as much of a tickling sensation on your teeth. This sensation can be very uncomfortable to some, which makes the Oral-B an excellent choice. The Oral-B 1000’s bare-bones approach to features allows you to just focus on improving your dental care. In addition to our must-have two-minute timer, this $30 pick simply offers a quad-pacer to ensure an even brush for all your teeth. We like this minimal approach, because it shifts your attention to what matters most: proper brushing technique. The Oral-B 1000 is also compatible with a variety of different brushing heads for your personal comfort needs.
The Pro 1000 was also quite comfortable to use. Oral-B models use rotation and pulsation, so its brushes don’t buzz as intensely when the brush’s head touches your other teeth. All Sonicares vibrate at the same (high) frequency and produce a more jarring sensation when the back of the brush collides with other teeth.
Run your toothbrush through the dishwasher. You wash other plastic utensils in the dishwasher, so washing your toothbrush should be safe. If you are worried about it melting, however, make sure to wash it on a lower heat setting.
At $165, the DiamondClean is our most expensive toothbrush. But we think it earns its hefty price tag. One of the benefits is the inclusion of a pressure sensor that actually activates without needing an unreasonable amount of pressure. Although we didn’t make pressure sensors a must-have (due to the variability in the technology), the feature came highly recommended from our experts and the DiamondClean’s sensor is top-of-the-line. When even slightly too much pressure is applied, the handle vibrates and a purple light flashes until you ease up. The closest competitor was the Oral-B 8000 which also came with an accurate pressure sensor and app compatibility. However, the core difference between the DiamondClean and Oral-B 8000 came down to usability. In short, the DiamondClean’s features were much easier to use.
There are two brands that dominate the electric toothbrush market: Oral-B, known for its oscillating brushes, and Philips Sonicare, famous for sonic brushes. We scoured best-of lists from sites like Engadget and Dental Dorks, and consumer reviews on Amazon to find the most highly-rated toothbrushes from each brand. We made sure to include brushes spanning a wide range of features and price points. We also brought in their most popular options suitable for young children — colorful, easy-to-hold brushes that play songs. To see if some lesser-known brands could compete with the two industry giants, we also included top-rated toothbrushes from some aspiring industry disrupters, like Foreo, Greater Goods and Jim Ellis.
For the longest time I was convinced that these replacement heads (“E-series”) would not fit my old Sonicare brush base, which I think dates from before 2007. It is the kind where the brush head is perfectly veritical (no angle). From the Sonicare pictures I now think maybe it is one of the “Advance” series – I can’t tell from the markings on the brush base itself, and the packaging is long gone. (See photos I have posted which shows the old base and head.)
HOWEVER, if you read reviews at sites like Amazon, long time Sonicare users are fairly passionate in their opinion that the Series 2 and Series 3 do not have the performance of older models nor the HealthyWhite+ and above models. They seem very definitive in this opinion and yes they say they turn off the “easy start.” Some even say the Essence makes their teeth feel cleaner than the Series 2.
Are you trying to figure out how to START decluttering? Do you need to simplify your home, but your life is crazy busy? Then this Decluttering Challenge is for you! Fading reminder bristles are present to help you recognise when it is time to change the head (recommendation of every 3 months).  But better still, if using a Smart sonicare brush handle the brush will monitor how often the head is used and how hard you brush and remind you at precisely the right time to change.
The 2 Series Sonicare is without a doubt consumers’ top pick. With over 4,000 positive reviews on Amazon and a 4.3 rating, this older model will not be extinct anytime soon. Especially now that it is available in 5 different colors, including a “white on ultra-coral” that I am itching to simply call “pink”. But, let’s leave color definitions to Philips.
Just a little FYI, make sure you are replacing your brush at least every 4-6 months because the bristles truly are not cleaning as effectively any longer. That’s not just a gimmick to get you to buy a new one 😉 The tips of the bristles become rough & aren’t working the same. Also if your bristles are flayed, then you NEED a new one! You also need to stop scrubbing with so much pressure.
It can be pretty tricky to use Bass brushing on this surface.  Unless you have a really wide dental arch (lucky you), it can be tough to get your toothbrush to lay at the correct angle to use the Bass technique as we’ve taught it.

These numbers don’t mean that you can’t be just as effective in removing plaque with either a manual or conventional toothbrush. But due to their high rate of speed, it’s easy to see why sonics make a good, efficient brushing choice.
Extremely happy with these heads. A great value compared to the Sonicare name brand heads. My wife actually prefers the feel of them to the others. I don’t differ on the two, other than they are ton cheaper and work just as well, so how can you go wrong.

AMEN, James!!! I LOVE that “fresh clean” feeling that I have first following a thorough cleaning at the dentist office. However, not everyone can AFFORD to have dental services done. This article helps those of us who don’t have $$$ to pay for the “luxury” of seeing a dentist

eBay determines trending price through a machine learned model of the product’s sale prices within the last 90 days. “New” refers to a brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item, and “Used” refers to an item that has been used previously.
Reminder bristles ensure your most effective clean At first glance it may not be obvious, but brush heads lose stiffness and gradually wear down over months of normal use. Blue reminder bristles fade to white and help you recognise when it’s time for a replacement. For optimal results, replace your brush head every three months.
These numbers don’t mean that you can’t be just as effective in removing plaque with either a manual or conventional toothbrush. But due to their high rate of speed, it’s easy to see why sonics make a good, efficient brushing choice.
Roughly speaking, sonic toothbrushes are somewhat similar to regular ones. Their purpose is to quickly move back on forth over the exterior of the teeth in order to scrub away plaque and food debris. Where they differ, however, is the speed of movement with which they operate.
The researchers say more work is needed to find out if these two different transcription patterns of inflammatory genes are signs of either two stages of Alzheimer’s, or even two types of the disease.
I’ve had mine for 3 years and it’s still fine fwiw. Battery doesn’t last as long as it used to, but if you’re charging it after each use (which you probably are), that doesn’t really matter. I use a normal brush when traveling.
Two-minute timer: The single most recommended feature, a two-minute timer takes the guesswork out of your brushing sessions to ensure your teeth get enough time under the bristles. Brushing under the American Dental Association’s recommended two minutes can result in a less effective clean. Dr. Lawlor told us, “patients say they brush for three to five minutes, but when they brush in front of me it will be less than a minute.” Most electric toothbrushes now offer this reality-check timer as a standard feature, regardless of price.

While the toothbrush performed very well in terms of brushing, we did not see much improvement in regards to whitening. According to Philips, 2 weeks of brushing twice a day should have resulted in teeth being whitened by 2 shades. Unfortunately, our test cannot confirm these claims.
With the Sonicare line, buying a higher priced toothbrush doesn’t equate with getting a different brushing action. But there are some design and performance differences that may make a noticeable difference in your overall brushing experience.
It has Clean mode (the one we feel is most important to have), and has the added flexibility of 3 brushing “intensities” (high intensity being the one we would use). It seems likely that the 3 Series is intended to replace the EasyClean in the Sonicare line up.
A toothbrush holder that holds the toothbrush upright, has good ventilation, and is made so other toothbrushes do not touch each other as to prevent cross contamination. Also some people may prefer toothbrush stands that suspend the toothbrush or have a drain in the bottom to prevent the build-up of scum and gross water. Remember to clean your toothbrush holder regularly. I clean mine once a week at the same time I deep clean my toothbrush.
The easiest way to keep your toothbrush clean is to rinse it with hot water (hot water cleans and kills germs easier) before and after brushing. Use your thumb and move it back and forth against the bristles while underneath or in water. It is important to do it before brushing as well as after because airborne bacteria or other particles such as dust may have settled on the toothbrush since your last brushing.
The notion behind to sonic system is that the high brush speed creates waves of turbulence. These waves prolong the range of brushing beyond areas that regular toothbrushes cannot reach. Furthermore, if you buy into the marketing spiel, the high vibration turbulence also creates tiny bubbles from the toothpaste and water in the mouth. Arguably, these bubbles further help the cleaning process by removing additional plaque formations.
We could not find any independent studies comparing toothbrush models or brands, and all the ones tested for the fluid dynamics aspect are Sonicare brushes, which are all 31,000 movements-per-minute brushes. Other brands have toothbrushes that move faster, slower, and at roughly the same speed as this. Though the fluid dynamics effect exists, remember that it’s secondary to actual bristles scrubbing your teeth and gums.

My flexcare finally died after 5 years of use (best brush ive ever owned, though the uv bulb cleaner died after only less than 2 years) , so ive been to both target and bbb and came home to compare the models, hoping i didnt need to get the top model anymore, and wow was this so informative, kinda sad the series 2 doesnt have the quadpacer or that would easily be the best buy, but i do need that option.
Streptococci, staphylococci and treponema denticola – these are just a few names of the different bacteria that exist in the average mouth every day.  It is estimated that most people’s mouths have literally millions of these organisms thriving just on the surfaces of the teeth. Having an abundance of bacteria is a contributor to tooth decay and gum disease, so keeping an environment less friendly to the harmful bacteria is one way to promote oral health.
Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
The Philips Sonicare toothbrush completes 62,000 bristle movements in just two minutes. Make sure every one of them is maximally effective by stocking up on extra Sonicare toothbrush heads and switching to a new one every three months. Explore what is available within the large inventory on eBay, whether you just need a single replacement head or would rather make a bulk purchase. Many Philips Sonicare toothbrush replacement heads are angled, so you can easily reach all tooth surfaces and scrub plaque easily off those hard-to-reach areas on your molars or wisdom teeth. Some feature soft bristles to clean sensitive teeth thoroughly without causing irritation. Go with Sonicare compact toothbrush heads if you own one of the brand’s smaller, travel-friendly models. Some have the bristles arranged in a circular or diamond-like shape, making them look similar to the tools that dentists use. Sonicare toothbrush heads are great to keep handy in your bathroom cabinet, and they are also practical extras to include when you give someone one of these innovative toothbrushes as a gift and want to make sure he or she has all the necessary supplies to go with it.
I would have believed in the accuracy of this site more had you not entered the info about the Quip brush. I made that unfortunate leap and it was a complete waste of money. The brush itself is little more than a manual brush that lightly vibrates. This serves no cleaning purpose, only that of a quadrant timer. So, if you’re looking for a chunky, uncomfortable to use manual toothbrush that requires batteries, the Quip may be for you.

The ToiletTree Rechargeable seemed like a good value prospect, as it comes with a free secondary travel toothbrush, but reviews report that it is very loud and stops working after a short period of time. It is no longer available on Amazon.
If you have blood in your toothpaste after brushing, you may have early symptoms of gingivitis. Left untreated, it can develop into gum disease and may even have wider health implications. Caught early, gingivitis is easy to treat and prevent with your daily routine.
The Oral-B Pro 1000 has a limited two-year warranty that requires the buyer to retain the receipt and ship the product to an authorized service center if it needs fixing. This is typical for a product in this price range and category.
THANK YOU, vey much for your information which was very significant to me and it should also be for other persons. They have to keeep in mind, that you did not have to do this and you did it out of the kindness of your heart.THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU, so much and may you continue to do what you do best and may GOD bless you and your loved ones.BEST WISHES TO YOU.
In 1906 one of his followers Alferd C. Fones took a great interest into Smith’s theories and began to train his cousin, Irene Newman, to act as an apprentice, scaling and polishing teeth as well as giving instructions on how to keep their mouths clean with daily home care practices. She was then to become the first recognized dental hygienist.[9]
Hi, I am currently a high school student who is interested in pursuing the career of a dental hygienist. I wanted to know if there are any health benefits with this career for example retirement benefits, paid vacations, medical benefits ect..?
The Sonicare 2 includes the two-minute timer and rechargeable battery. When we first tested this model, it did not have the 30-second pacing timer, but we recently confirmed with Philips that current Series 2 handles now come with a quadrant timer. We don’t think the pacing timer is absolutely necessary, but it’s nice that the line now has this feature.

It can easily be argued that each brush head within the Sonicare range is specialist, in that they are each designed to do something specific.  However, the following are even more specialist.  Technically, these are not brush heads, they are nozzles.
There are some interesting points in time in this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner as well. cara mengatasi anyang-anyangan

Our list is designed to meet the needs of the average powered toothbrush consumer. Statistically speaking, these reviews are aimed at the 80% of people, or the middle of the curve. We have factored in cost as a practical consideration. However, we do recognize that there are consumers who are willing to splash more money. Hence, we reviewed higher end sonic toothbrush models as well.
But what really sets the Aura Clean Sonic Toothbrush apart from its competitors? It’s the Aura Clean Base Station – a unique enclosed charging base for the toothbrush handle and brush head that won’t take up a lot of space on your vanity, and it also cleans and dries your brush head! Once you dock your damp toothbrush after use, the 360-degree Aura Clean Halo uses powerful UVC rays to kill 99.9% of bacteria, and then the built-in dryer wicks away any moisture from the brush to ensure that no germs or bacteria stand a chance. After all, what’s the point of trying to duplicate that “just came from the dentist” feeling if you’re not even using a hygienic toothbrush?
That being said, it’s not a hard and fast rule that sonic electric toothbrushes are better than their oscillating counterparts. With modern operating modes and brush head technology, some oscillating electric toothbrushes are equally as efficient.
Most research that we did and came across suggests that electric toothbrushes can most certainly improve brushing habits. As a result, this will inevitably improve your overall oral hygiene and make you less prone to oral diseases. Dental professionals are united around the notion that anything with 28,000 or more brush strokes per minute considerably increases the cleanliness of your entire mouth while decreasing the effort.
Brushing Modes: 2 Kid-friendly power modes adapts to different ages providing a gentle cleaning that’s ideal for different ages. There is a low mode for ages 4 and up and high mode for ages 7 and older
Unfortunately, there is no cheat or secret way around this one. The reality is that smoking plays havoc with oral and dental hygiene. You will always be at a much higher risk of gum disease and tooth infection while you smoke. It will also lead to accelerated tartar build-up in and around the gum line.
“More and more dental hygienists will be hired to do this preventative health care,” but Swanson Jaecks says that physicians’ offices, emergency rooms and medical clinics are increasingly hiring dental hygienists to provide their patients with more holistic health care. These professionals can also be hired in academia and in research.
The Sonicare for Kids is our top pick for this category because it both trains and encourages kids to brush properly. In addition, the handle is closer in size to adult models than the Oral-B Disney’s, which means it isn’t too big now, and your kids won’t outgrow this $40 toothbrush too quickly. Instead, they’ll be able to improve their technique and become familiar with using a traditionally-sized electric toothbrush as they develop more dexterity.
If you want a powerful, yet gentle, clean, the Oral-B Pro-Health Clinical Pro-Flex Medium Toothbrush is right for you. It offers a superior clean thanks to two flexing sides that adjust to the curves and contours of your teeth. It cleans along the gumline, but is gentle on enamel and sensitive gums. It removes up to 93% of plaque in hard-to-reach areas and up to 34% more plaque along the gumline, ensuring a cleaner mouth and fresher breath. It also reduces gingivitis and removes surface stains, providing a better clean than a traditional manual toothbrush. In fact, it promises to provide better oral health in only two weeks.
Each state requires dental hygienists to be licensed, and requirements vary by state. For most, licensure requires a degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and passing written and clinical exams administered by the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations.
Tooth decay (cavities) is a common problem for people of all ages. For children, untreated cavities can cause pain, absence from school, difficulty concentrating on learning, and poor appearance, all problems that greatly affect quality of life and ability to succeed. Children from lower income families often do not receive timely treatment for tooth decay and are more likely to suffer from these problems. Tooth decay also is a problem for many adults. Adults of some racial and ethnic groups experience more untreated decay.
One thing to consider is the comfort level of the handle and grip. I had a FlexCare+ handle which has a slim profile and a rubber grip on the entire back. It broke so I replaced it with a Sonicare 2 Series, which is a larger unit with no rubber grip. I’m not sure what all models have the rubber grip, but it made controlling the handle easier and more comfortable.
Periodontal Dental Hygienist Median salary: $72,330 Focusing on the health of teeth and diseases that affect them, periodontal dental hygienists are well versed in charting, oral cancer screenings, tongue hygiene, denture care, nutrition and other elements that help produce holistic oral care and treatment. The ToiletTree Rechargeable seemed like a good value prospect, as it comes with a free secondary travel toothbrush, but reviews report that it is very loud and stops working after a short period of time. It is no longer available on Amazon.

So, you are set on buying your first vibrating toothbrush, but you are not sure what to look for. That’s fine, we all need to start somewhere. But, be advised, often times a $60 electric toothbrush can have the same core features as a $200 one. It is also quite possible that the cheaper one will outperform the more expensive one. So, let’s review some of the core elements to look for when purchasing a rotary or sonic toothbrushes.

Bluetooth technology allows for a 2-way communication between the toothbrush and your smartphone. Given you have downloaded the Oral-B app beforehand. However, it also helps you drain the battery dead quicker than the advertised 10 days. As a matter of fact, we only got it to work for 8 days straight.
You can’t see it, but your brush head wears over time. Blue reminder bristles fade in color to let you know when it’s time to replace the brush head. Dental professionals recommend replacing your brush head every three months. Sonicare technology helps you remove up to two times more plaque compared to a manual toothbrush.
Thanks for your comments. I’m a dental hygienist and I totally concur. Calculus does not only build up above the gum line but also below it destroying the tissues that hold the teeth in the jawbone. This is called periodontal disease and it has negative implications for heart health as well. The bacteria released into the blood stream could lead to a heart attack in a susceptible individual. If people desire to have healthy teeth and gums, they need to floss every day and brush properly with a soft brush, then see a dental professional for cleaning and exams every 6 months.
Philips Sonicare reminder bristles are designed to give you a visual indication of this microscopic breakdown, letting you know when it’s time to replace your brush head. If you use your brush head twice a day for the full two minutes, it needs to be replaced every three months.
Comments: The Essence isn’t as glamorous a brush as the more modern Sonicares but it creates the same 31,000 brush-strokes-per-minute brushing action they do. However, as compared to higher-end models, this one’s mechanism seems to be less powerful. And from what we’ve read in terms of user comments, people who have owned other models may not be satisfied with the brushing experience this one delivers.
1998 – Registered dental hygienist in alternative practice (RDHAP): RDHAPs may provide services for homebound persons or at residential facilities, schools, institutions and in dental health professional shortage areas without the supervision of a dentist. RDHAPs can provide patient care for up to 18 months and longer if the patient obtains a prescription for additional oral treatment from a dentist or physician .[39]
The modern manual tooth brush is a dental tool which consists of a head of nylon bristles attached to a long handle to help facilitate the manual action of tooth brushing. Furthermore, the handle aids in reaching as far back as teeth erupt in the oral cavity. The tooth brush is arguably a person’s best tool for removing dental plaque from teeth, thus capable of preventing all plaque-related diseases if used routinely, correctly and effectively. Oral health professionals recommend the use of a tooth brush with a small head and soft bristles as they are most effective in removing plaque without damaging the gums.[26]
It is funny how many of professional recommend flossing, when it is now proven flossing has no benefit or minimal benefit as a part of dental routine! I follow a strict dental care routine, brushing and using mouth wash, but I also dip my toothbrush in baking soda and brush twice a week. I have started using hydrogen peroxide once a week too, I did oil pulling once, do not have the patience for keeping the oils and swishing it around for 10 minutes! . My dentist says he loves . my teeth and gums! , I also make all my own shampoo, skin care, etc. I am sure cosmetic companies hate that too!
This phase is continuous throughout treatment, allowing the dental professional along with the patient to monitor the patients oral health status and assists in recognizing the need for change or amendment to the previously formulated treatment plan, according to the patients specific needs.[8] Treatment is monitored using accurate periodontal charting and clinical observation of hard and soft tissues by the dental professional. The results of the periodontal charting and clinical observation dictates what follows the non-surgical periodontal phase. The three generalised outcomes that may result are essentially;
Even though these toothbrushes are electric, they provide the gentle brushstroke motion. This gentle motion ensures that your sonicare toothbrush will be safe to use with braces or if you have particularly sensitive gums or teeth. The brush head itself is angled so that you can get better access to the teeth in the back of your mouth. When you make brushstrokes, you can be sure that all of your teeth will be clean.
As you may expect, much of a dental hygienist’s job requires working with people’s mouths, and it’s possible that you will come into contact with the occasional patient who has bad breath, swollen gums or tooth decay.
Being a hygienist….has it’s tough days and easy days. LEARNING to become a hygienist is actually one of the most difficult programs you can go through – not in a stuck up way, but I have always been in honors courses throughout highschool and college, and studied 3 years for a double major before discovering and switching into hygiene. It is no joke – at least the program I was in. They only accepted 3.8GPA or higher and required pre-reqs.
I’m in 8th grade and I know its very early to be choosing my career but I thought being a hygienist would be really fun and not too much college plus I love going to get my teeth cleaned. it seems like I would have enough to support myself and later in life a family and like I said I know its real early to figure out but I’m wondering if is a good choice or not?
When it comes to battling plaque, Philips Sonicare electric toothbrushes are a game changer. Our brushes deliver 31,000 brush strokes a minute, giving you a month’s worth of manual brush strokes in two minutes.
“One of the best out there. Highly comparable to the Sonicare Series 2. Compared to its higher-end siblings, like the 3000 or 7000, the 1000 Pro lacks fancier features like different speed modes, pressure sensor, and Bluetooth connectivity. However, if you don’t have sensitive gums, you probably do not need the pressure sensor, and if you do not obsess about logging your brushing performance in an app, then you can do without Bluetooth connectivity as well. For basic effective cleaning, this one does the job. It gives 20,000 rotations per minute. Two minutes of brushing with this leaves you with a fresh-feeling mouth. Definitely a good investment.”
The American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) defines dental hygienists as oral health professionals who are responsible for preventing and treating oral diseases. Regardless of the state in which they practice, dental hygienists must be state licensed, which requires graduating from a college or university dental hygienist program and passing a written national board examination and state clinical examination.
There is research that compliments both types of power motored brushes. If we consider the amount of movement and coverage of brushing as decisive factors, then the sonic toothbrush sounds like the right choice. A 12-week clinical trial has demonstrated the sonic type brushes can reach about 1/8 of an inch deeper than other rotary brushes. This reason and the above mentioned fluid dynamics should be good enough to proclaim the sonic toothbrush as the winner.
If I have to touch a not clean enuf for me item, (like everywhere) or want to clean my toothbrush over night, I just reach for my bottle of vinegar. Vin is also fab for cleaning the M/Wave,Hob,oven fronts, windows, mirror, you name it. Use it on a few pieces of kitchen roll and you will just love the shine. It can stops unsightly fungus in its tracks, from growing under finger and toe nails. Just fill under the nail cavity with vin/water using a medicine dropper and keep nail upright for a while to dry. As the nail grows, it will become good again. When my husband came home from hospital with his back covered in spots, I washed him with vin. and on telling a Dr. he said I had done the best possible thing, and that vinegar was all there had been to keep bugs at bay during WW1 & 2. Remember, 50-50 white vinegar and water for bugs, cleaning and shine, but brown vinegar for food. I also cleaned a 60 odd year old, well used, EP&S tablespoon spoon. I stood it in an inch of vin overnight. The result was one inch bright and clean the rest of it was still quite tarnished, result – I put the whole spoon in vin the next night. great and I can still use my grandmothers spoon with love. A litre of vinegar can cost as little as 86p and you can pick it up when shopping. Saves a visit to the Dr. who will give you ‘STUFF’ we know could be harmful or a trip to the Chemist where they will charge o lot of money for few applications of medication. And no I don’t own a vinegar shop. Oh, to say nothing of fish and chips!
In addition to achieving an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from an accredited institution, individuals interested in becoming dental hygienists must successfully pass a state-authorized licensure examination, as well as the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination. Generally, the national examination assesses a candidate’s knowledge of the practice of dental assisting, while state or regional examinations are typically designed to assess a hygienist’s clinical skills.
Who knew that rubbing fruit on your teeth could help clean them? Strawberries and tomatoes, along with berries, oranges, and bell peppers, lemons and limes all contain loads of Vitamin C, a nutrient that is essential to promoting good oral health. All you have to do is rub one of these fruits on your teeth and let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing with baking soda dissolved in warm water. Your precious chompers will be left looking white and feeling squeaky clean.

And as far as cost goes, if you shop around a little bit you can probably find the least expensive of these brushes at a price only half again as much as the most expensive model we tend to consider a good value (the HealthyWhite+), thus making an almost reasonable buy.
There is much debate about whether electric is always better when it comes to brushing. For the most part, it is down to personal choice. However, studies have shown, time and again, that electric brushes are more efficient at removing built up material on teeth.
How is the Sonicare Series 2 with the tongue cleaner and spray compare to a regular series 2? It is important for me that I am able to properly clean my tongue and in my experience electric toothbrushes tend to be tricky at that.
Being able to reach 31,000 brush strokes per minute, the Sensonic Professional Plus has earned its place among the big boys. Namely, Philips and Oral-B. In fact, this Waterpik model is about 25% faster than Philips’ Sonicare FlexCare model.
The Braun 1000 (and Canadian 2000 model) oscillate 8800 times per minute and pulsate 20,000 times per minute. The 3000, 4000, and 5000 models oscillate at the same rate but pulsate at 40,000 per minute. There are some that say that the 40,000 pulsations act similar to Sonicare’s 31,000 micro-vibrating sweeps, that clean beyond where the toothbrush comes in contact with your teeth…by spraying water, toothpaste and saliva between teeth etc. The 20,000 pulsations are theoretically less effective than the 40,000 pulsations in this respect.
The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean is pretty sleek with a matte plastic finish, and it has some real luxury features, like an inductive charging glass and travel case, but its price is a lot to spend for those items. The DiamondClean has five cleaning modes (four too many) that you must manually cycle through if you need to turn the brush off before reaching two minutes. It also has some of the most expensive brush heads, at around $11 apiece.

Purchasing Oral Hygiene With Orthodontics

Many Sonicare brushes feature Quadpacer or BrushPacer. These functions signal when you should advance to cleaning the next portion of your mouth. Not everyone values this type of indicator. We state below which models allow you to deactivate it.
Even though the above mechanisms can partly or fully help to remove plaque and tartar at some point you should see a  dental professional because he or she would be able to see dental problem you cannot recognize.
People might not like to talk about it, but tartar buildup on the teeth is a problem for many. Tartar is plaque that has hardened on the teeth. It can also form at and underneath the gumline and irritate gum tissues. Tartar allows plaque more surface area to grow, and creates a much stickier surface to adhere to, which can lead to more serious conditions such as cavities and gum disease. Saliva, food and fluids combine to produce the buildup that collects on the teeth and gums.
This is definitely the best brush for the buck since it uses new click style and have full cleaning power. I wouldn’t consider older Essence model at all due to lack of brushhead choices and difficulty of cleaning. I’m surprised they are still selling them considering Essence+ is out.

I have one. I actually prefer the older Sonicare in that it seems to remove more food between the teeth (you need to floss anyway). It also came with the standard diamondhead brush and I actually prefer the compact heads so I will try attaching a Prohead Compact brush to it and see if I like it better.
I have the fancy Sonicare and its travel case also charges the brush with a USB cable attached. I’ve traveled over several continents with it and the battery lasts so long on a charge I normally don’t need to even charge it while traveling for two weeks at a time.
In short, you get the brush head, these work very well! Only less money. I would recommend these for the compatible Sonicare toothbrush. Thanks to this, I don’t have to buy expensive official brush head products anymore.
This Sonicare model comes equipped with 5 modes: clean, white, sensitive, gum care and deep clean. This makes this toothbrush practically perfect for all everyday uses and purposes. The slim ergonomic design of the handle makes it extremely easy to hold, operate, and switch between settings. In addition, the illuminated display and battery indicator make this model even more attractive and futuristic looking.
There are no surprises here; brushing is the number one treatment for plaque prevention. If you brush properly after every meal (wait half an hour after eating), you can significantly reduce your chance of developing unsightly tartar patches. You need to be brushing for three minutes, with an even amount of pressure, and covering every part of your mouth.
The best electric toothbrush is gentle on your teeth and gums, easy to maneuver, and actually improves your brushing technique. But highly advertised features, like different brushing modes, don’t necessarily lead to healthier teeth and gums. So we consulted dentists and dental research to identify the most effective features available — brushing timers and pressure sensors — and then gathered 16 toothbrushes to test ourselves. We ended up with four models that actually encourage better brushing habits for a healthy smile.
Even though we’ve been brushing and flossing our teeth for years and years, many of us are surprised to learn that we’re not doing it properly. Case in point: Did you know that proper brushing takes at least two minutes? Most adults do not come close to brushing that long.
Mesa Community College provides outstanding transfer and career and technical programs, workforce development, and life-long learning opportunities to residents of the East Valley area of Phoenix, Arizona.
Like we discussed above, plaque (especially mature plaque) definitely can provide a fortress for the ‘bad bugs’ to increase their populations (bad news).  A recent article titled, Understanding the root cause of tooth decay and gum disease, explains how the microbes in an environment are the heavy hitters that ‘control the playing field’.  When plaque matures, the types of microbes shift from a healthy balance of microbes to an environment dominated and controlled by ‘bad bugs’.
Its body is big to hold (probably in part due to the fact that it has the NiMH style of battery) and it’s a little bit noisier than other models. As compared to the sleeker, more-modern Sonicare designs, this unit does seem a bit old fashioned.
The whitening mode is advertised to remove tooth stains from coffee, red wine, tobacco, tea, and ex-girlfriends. All of this within 14 days. Just kidding about the ex-girlfriend. But, maybe Philips should consider it for their advertisement.
I very rarely floss. I know I should, but I don’t do it often. After switching to this brush, dentists have not told me that it looks like I don’t floss anymore! I am NOT saying you can avoid flossing by using this brush, but I take it to mean that it does a way better job than my old manual toothbrush ever did
In addition, we invested over 50 hours in researching, evaluating, and testing the best powered toothbrushes widely available to find the best one. (On a personal note, the last time I went to get my teeth cleaned, both the dentist and hygienist tripped over themselves to compliment the condition of my teeth, even though I hadn’t gotten a cleaning in three years, drink coffee every day, and eat healthy sums of candy.)
Until recently, I always used the lower or mid tier models and it still makes the most sense, I just don’t recommend 2 Series. And I’ve had two of the 2 Series, so it’s not that I got a bad unit. It’s very tame.
We get your point about frailty but will also point out that you can break your Series 2 and replace it again for about the same cost as one HealthyWhite. And in an era of planned obsolescence (including the situation where battery failure = toothbrush death), investing as little as possible has advantages.
Unfortunately, our website doesn’t have the resources of a big organization (like Consumer Reports for example) who might run dozens of each model for weeks on end to evaluate reliability. Or scientifically measure how the brushing action of one compares to another. So, actually quantifying model differences isn’t really something we can do.
If you’re interested in considering a sonic toothbrush that’s not a Sonicare, we’ve noticed the Braun Oral B Pulsonic. Its features list places it in the same general category as the Sonicare models we discuss on this page.

Sonicare brushing features – An outline of the various brushing modes different Sonicare models have, and what we think of each of them. It explains the importance of having the 31,000 strokes-per-minute brushing action.
You also only get two options in terms of replacing brush heads: the Standard and Compact size from the e-Series. This is due to the older brush attachment technology that this sonic toothbrush model uses. Namely, you need to screw-on and off the brush head, rather than snap it on and off.

The most significant thing about a powered toothbrush that might change over the course of its lifetime is the battery life; over the years, rechargeable batteries tend to lose capacity. In the case of a toothbrush, this might mean it becomes less powerful or not lasting as long while traveling.
A major benefit to using a manual toothbrush is cost. The cost of an electric toothbrush can easily be more than $100. In addition, replacement heads are not inexpensive and you need to replace the toothbrush head these every three months just as you do a manual toothbrush. Another benefit to using a manual toothbrush is in the design of the brush. You can purchase a manual toothbrush in a number of styles and brush lengths, and those with flexible handles may make it easier to reach difficult areas of your mouth, especially if you have a very small mouth.
I’m a hygienist and when I was in school all my patients had free dental care and my “student loan” paid for most of it we also went to low income schools taught kids how to floss and brush and gave supplies. So give professions some credit it’s not just professions want your money. I share my education to keep people healthy. But some info here isn’t correct. Baking soda and peroxide are fine you’re okay to use.. acidic will cause perminent damage to teeth overtime. And the scaling people cause notching and damage teeth if not done correctly I see it all the time. And you aren’t getting under the gums which is the most damaging part. So if you try you can find schools for free these students need clinic hours. SJVC is one for example. Your teeth and health are worth the time. Floss and brush. Watch youtube videos to see it done correctly. Home remedies are fine but this one isn’t accurate.
