Don’T Hesitate Oral Hygiene Aids

Omega 3 fatty acids are fats commonly found in marine and plant oils. They are considered essential fatty acids, meaning that they cannot be synthesized in the body but are vital for healthy metabolism. They are thought to play an important role in reducing inflammation throughout the body.
Did you have a fascination with the tooth fairy as a child? Or always looked forward to going to the dentist? Then perhaps a career as a dental hygienist is right for you. Dental hygienists play an integral role in every dentist’s office, and are responsible for everything from cleaning teeth to taking x-rays and helping patients feel at ease. Check out the pros and cons of pursuing this profession:
Nothing but frustration with Phillips USA that owns Sonicare. My product failed and at first Phillips said they would do nothing. Then they agreed to replace it, but sent me a computer battery instead. Then they sent 3 Sonicare AIrfloss. I had to go to the post office four times to return items they sent by mistake. My chats and calls to the company were disconnected. Promises were made then rescinded. In frustration I wrote the CEO about the hours of my time they wasted with their compounded mistakes. Mr Brent Shafer, the CEO waited weeks before they would respond and all they would do is of free couple brush heads – not appropriate in my book given the massive amount of time and frustration they caused me.
(c)This is a very old method used by people in Africa, chew some sesame seeds then brush your teeth the oil in the seed are known to break down tartar. Not many people are allergic sesame seeds so be careful.
We also looked at each toothbrush’s warranty. Most of the models we tested have two-year warranties, though the Health HP-STX and the Pursonic S500 only have one-year warranties. The warranty reflects the projected life of the electric toothbrush, particularly the battery, which holds less charge as it ages.
As compared to just the regular Essence, you get the advantage of using the more convenient, wider selection and easier to clean around click-on brush heads. Each of these factors might be an advantage for a family trying to share the same brush.
Please be careful about re-spreading misleading information. I understand where you receive the information, but go into a highschool or college and they can verify your source is incorrect. I would hate to see people get sick because this does not work.
Do not be worried that you need to use them all to target different areas of the mouth.  You can still have white teeth, healthy gums and reduced plaque by using the DiamondClean head.  Using the Sensitive brush head may improve your experience but will not mean that your teeth are more stained because it does not aggravate the tooth surface as much.
Reminder bristles ensure your most effective clean At first glance it may not be obvious, but brush heads lose stiffness and gradually wear down over months of normal use.  Blue reminder bristles fade to white and help you recognise when it’s time for a replacement. For optimal results, replace your brush head every three months.
The job market for dental hygienists is booming. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the occupation will grow nearly 20 percent by 2026, which is much faster than the average growth rate for most professions. This swell in jobs is likely due to the increased awareness among consumers of how oral health is linked to their overall health.
I use the Oral-B brushes, and they’re on sale for $4 each every few months from Costco. However, they don’t last anything like 3 months. I haven’t measured, but I’d say they’re about a month each. Maybe 6 weeks.
Dr. McConnell and Casper agree that electric toothbrushes are better instruments, in large part because they’re less “technique-sensitive” than manual brushes. Electric toothbrushes give more consistent results because they clean teeth in a more consistent manner.
The best electric toothbrushes for Senior Citizens. – Elder persons in different age groups, with differing situations, need different features. This page discusses the pros and cons of various models in meeting those needs.
is it really? The 1000 is a rotating head. What sort of head is the Deep Sweep? It seems like it doesn’t rotate. Without seeing the underlying motor/link connection, it’s hard to tell if you can simply change the head and have them work. In the same way you can’t put an Oral-B rotating head on a Sonicare (which uses magnets to create vibrations) and have it work.
We tested this particular model by switching between the five available modes. It is likely that the battery could last a bit longer if you only use the daily clean mode. Other available modes include gum care, sensitive, whitening, and pro-clean.
You can also control tartar and plaque build-up with a hydrogen peroxide based mouthwash or cleanser. If you cannot find this type of product in your local pharmacy, it is pretty easy to knock a batch together yourself. Just take one tablespoon of antiseptic mouthwash and add three tablespoons of (3% only) hydrogen peroxide solution. You must make sure that the substance you use is of a suitable concentration or you could damage your teeth.
As testament of this, over the years we noticed that every Sonicare manual we’ve seen clearly states something similar to: “When the Sonicare is used in clinical studies, the default 2-minute Clean mode must be selected.”
A Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene is typically a four-year program. Students entering a bachelor’s degree program are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent, but many dental hygienists with an associate degree or certification enter the bachelor’s degree programs to expand their clinical expertise and help advance their careers.[citation needed]
Beyond an associate’s degree, dental hygienists often pursue college or university programs that result in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in dental hygiene. Upon completion of an associate’s degree in dental hygiene, dental hygienists can expect to complete a bachelor’s degree program in another two years, and a master’s degree in another four years. Although advanced degrees in dental hygiene are not required to practice dental hygiene, they may be required or preferred for careers in teaching or research or for clinical practice in schools or public health programs.
Do not boil, microwave, or place your toothbrush in the dishwasher in order to sanitize it because these may damage your toothbrush. In order to sanitize your toothbrush all you need to do is soak it in an antibacterial solution for at least 10 minutes. Solutions you may use for cleaning are: antibacterial mouthwash that contains alcohol, mixture of 1/3 bleach and 2/3 water, hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar.
Whatever you do, don’t waste your dentist. They represent a very special resource and it should not be squandered. They are not there to give you a lecture or yell about how badly you have treated your teeth (though a disapproving look or two can work wonders for lazy patients). They are only there to offer you the finest in dental care and treatment available.

The oscillating-rotating toothbrush is mostly developed by Oral-B. They have tested and perfected the design and technology over time. Currently, the idea of this type of toothbrush is to move slowly from tooth to tooth in order for more effective cleaning.

When you first wear braces you will likely be told the importance of cleaning effectively around braces to avoid staining of when it comes to removal.  The natures of braces offers up lots of areas for small food particles to stick to.
Start your brushing in one corner of the mouth and slowly guide the bristles around all of the teeth. You don’t need to scrub but with light pressure gently move the brush head. Make small back and forth movements over the teeth. This will help the longer bristles to reach deeper between the teeth. So you just show the brush where to go and the sonic vibrations do the cleaning work for you.
At first glance, brushing your teeth can seem like a simple activity. After all, most of us do it at least once every day. But brushing your teeth actually requires a bit of skill. Fortunately, brushing with proper technique isn’t difficult to learn — it’s more about reminding yourself to do so. We gathered the most important techniques to keep in mind for a healthy smile.
These are great affordable replacement brush for your Sonicare electric tooth brush! They fit and work well.. the gap in between the brush and handle is normal for moving components.. the bristle on brush are soft and has a replacement reminder when the color of brush fades over time.. the different color on the base of the brush is very helpful so you don’t get it mixed with someone else toothbrush!
Vitamin D3 is essential for bone and immune system health. The main source of the vitamin, which is made in the skin, is sunshine. Deficiencies may occur during winter months or in those who are indoors most of the time, such as people with Alzheimer’s disease.

If you are a fan of Indian or Mexican food, you are in luck. According to dental scientists, spicy cuisines are great for reducing plaque and tartar levels in the mouth. They do this by increasing your production of saliva. As we know, salvia is the secret weapon of the oral environment. It washes over teeth and cleanses them of nasty stuff.
Therefore if you own the Sonicare, 2 Series plaque defence, 3 Series gum health, DiamondClean, EasyClean, FlexCare, FlexCare Platinum, FlexCare+, for Kids or HealthyWhite any of the following brush heads can be used.
Just a little FYI, make sure you are replacing your brush at least every 4-6 months because the bristles truly are not cleaning as effectively any longer. That’s not just a gimmick to get you to buy a new one 😉 The tips of the bristles become rough & aren’t working the same. Also if your bristles are flayed, then you NEED a new one! You also need to stop scrubbing with so much pressure.
Toothbrushing can only clean to a depth of about 1.5 mm inside the gingival pockets, but a sustained regime of plaque removal above the gum line can affect the ecology of the microbes below the gums and may reduce the number of pathogens in pockets up to 5 mm in depth.[23]
If you don’t fancy rubbing vegetable glycerine on your teeth, you might prefer something a little simpler. You can rub orange peel directly onto your teeth and this will help to fight tartar building microorganisms on the enamel. You can also mash up the peel (though this may take some time) and apply it to the stained areas. Leave to rest and then rinse. You should find that this noticeably whitens the teeth.
Avoid brushing with pressure when you use baking soda as toothpaste. Also, do not use baking soda for more than five days in a row because it is abrasive and may damage your tooth enamel if you use it too often.

Mouthwash kills the germs in your mouth, so it seems logical that it could kill those germs on your toothbrush too! Just soak your toothbrush bristles in mouthwash for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly with hot water. (thanks Rachel)
Watch your diet. The bacteria in your mouth thrive on sugary and starchy foods. When they’re exposed to those foods, they release harmful acids. Try to eat a healthy diet and limit the amount of sugary foods you eat. That goes for snacks, too. Every time you eat, you also feed the bacteria in your mouth. You don’t have to give up sweets or between-meals munches. Just be mindful about how often you indulge. Brush and drink plenty of water during and after meals.
FWIW, I bought an Oral-B ProfessionalCare 1000 based on the recommendation here, after I lost my 4000. The 4000 cleaned my teeth much more thoroughly–I can often feel some guck on my teeth after using the 1000, which never happened with the 4000. The 4000 “pulsates” at 40,000 pulsations/minute, compared with teh 20,000 for the 1000. YMMV, but the 4000 works a lot better for me.
This is what happened to me as well, sounded great at first but then all of these people are saying that they regret their choice of becoming a Dh. But then again, I’m sure every occupation will have the same type of opinions about it.

This is a “kids” toothbrush. But for people who can overlook that fact, this is a way of getting a modern, full-fledged (31,000 brush-strokes-per-minute) Sonicare at a low price. It also makes a reasonable option for parents that might want to share a brush with their children. Or test out the use of an electric before moving on to getting their own.
Greater Goods’s Sonic Electric Toothbrush costs less than any brush we’ve considered so far. However, the replacement heads come in only one style. And though heads are about half the price of those that accompany our top pick, I found myself needing to replace them in about half the time (the bristles got smashed down), virtually negating the long-term savings for this brush.
I love not having to work all week if I don’t want to…Truthfully I’d recommend that a hygienist NOT work full time if they are financially able… It’s a great job but it can definitely wear you out if you have a full day with a lot of pts.
That being said, it’s not a hard and fast rule that sonic electric toothbrushes are better than their oscillating counterparts. With modern operating modes and brush head technology, some oscillating electric toothbrushes are equally as efficient.
Although most electric toothbrushes can get the job done without any extras, there are a couple worth noting. In particular, if you travel often, it may be a good idea to get a toothbrush that comes with a travel case. Some toothbrushes also come with sanitizers to kill off bacteria on the bristles.
The easiest way to keep your toothbrush clean is to rinse it with hot water (hot water cleans and kills germs easier) before and after brushing. Use your thumb and move it back and forth against the bristles while underneath or in water. It is important to do it before brushing as well as after because airborne bacteria or other particles such as dust may have settled on the toothbrush since your last brushing.
In short, you get the brush head, these work very well! Only less money. I would recommend these for the compatible Sonicare toothbrush. Thanks to this, I don’t have to buy expensive official brush head products anymore.
My current sonicare died and I was very confused about the differences between the many, many models. Your excellent review helped me make up my mind as to a replacement. After perusing ebay (be careful about “used!”) I’ve ordered a replacement that was a good bit less expensive than the price quoted in your article. Thanks again!
Get a high quality butter oil / fermented cod oil mix which is extremely good for teeth (and general health) I highly suggest that Blue Ice brand (google it I can’t remember the exact name). They got 5 or 6 different products I’d highly recommend for teeth. Also get a vitamin K-2 supplement which gives you the MK-7 form. You want to make sure of 2 things with the K2 supplement: A. it uses olive oil (preferablly organic) as it’s carrier (this leaves out the Jarrows brand), B. it’s made from a fermented Japanese food called Natto using non-GMO soybeans. There are a few good brands for this, NutriGold is one and there was another I may have liked even a touch better than NutriGold but I can’t remember the name of of the brand now (I think it was more of a white bottle/label). But don’t forget about the Blue Ice products, seriously, they are amazing. Read about all the great successes people have had with the organic butter oil / fermented cod liver oil with regards to teeth/cavities, it’ll probably make all these so-called “professionals” crap their pants, their brains wouldn’t be able to handle it since it wasn’t indoctrinated into their heads by some brainwashing (in some ways, not all) textbook.
A full-featured, top-of-the-line model. This option comes with multiple intensity settings and an alert to let you know if you are brushing too hard. We particularly love the UV sanitary feature, which helps to kill bacteria between uses
You can follow all the essentials for dental hygiene , but you won’t have a pleasant breath unless you have a clean stomach. In fact many a times when we have a bad breath, the cause is an unclean stomach and not a lack of oral hygiene.
We love that you’re thinking of your future career so early, Emily! If teeth and dental work are something you enjoy and have a passion for, a career in dental hygiene could be a great choice for you. Every job will have pros and cons, like this article mentions, but don’t let that stop you from achieving your dream career!
The best electric toothbrush is gentle on your teeth and gums, easy to maneuver, and actually improves your brushing technique. But highly advertised features, like different brushing modes, don’t necessarily lead to healthier teeth and gums. So we consulted dentists and dental research to identify the most effective features available — brushing timers and pressure sensors — and then gathered 16 toothbrushes to test ourselves. We ended up with four models that actually encourage better brushing habits for a healthy smile.
This category seems ripe for disruption. The cheapest brushes on this list are $5 to $6 each? Those brushes can’t cost more than 50 cents to manufacture, and probably a lot less. Seems like an enormous waste of money to me.
However, sonic toothbrushes can produce a secondary effect described in a handful of studies involving fluid dynamics. Independent research does show that the fluid dynamics generated by a toothbrush moving at high frequency can “remove bacteria in vitro even at distances up to 4 mm beyond the tips of the bristles” (Stanford, 1997). The efficacy of this movement varied depending on the distance and time spent, and nothing will remove 100 percent of the bacteria/plaque all the time, but this is a significant, if secondary, effect generated by a “sonic” toothbrush.
Dental hygienists are an important part of dentist-led teams. Their work removes a considerable burden from the dentist, freeing up the dentist to perform more advanced procedures. Therefore, it is quite common for dental hygienists to perform many of the preventive dental procedures in an office, such as teeth cleaning and fluoride application.
The bristles are some 25% softer than most other brush heads and the bristles are trimmed in such as way that the experience on the teeth and gums should be softer and more enjoyable for those with sensitive teeth and gums.
As for the strange silicone bristles of the Foreo, Dr. Glassman revealed that “silicone is non-abrasive, which makes it impossible to put too much pressure on your teeth, thus preventing gum recession and sensitivity.” Our experts also explained that unlike standard nylon bristles, silicone is nonporous which leaves less room on the bristles for bacteria to grow. While this makes the Foreo sound perfect, Dr. Glassman warned us that “there is not a lot of literature or clinical studies on their effectiveness with removing bacteria” from teeth. Dr. Lawlor agreed and explained “the bristle size is too thick for the silicone at this point, it’ll be too bulky to slip under your gums. There’s hope for the future, but it’s important to not give up important designs.” For now, the regular bristles of our top picks are the most effective way to go.
Carol, I hope you are feeling better. I’ll say a prayer for you but it’s already a year later so I hope you are doing well. I hear coconut oil and tumeric powder together are also good to brush your teeth with and leave on for 5 minutes, then brush teeth as normal. I do it once in a while, they say twice a week is good.
These are cheap toothbrushes. Not cheap in a good way, cheap as in cheaply-made. I never thought I would care that much about the quality of a toothbrush but as soon as I picked one up I thought the handle was too thin, too light, not flexible enough and had poor grip. They’re made to look like they have rubberized grips but that’s just colored plastic. The bristles are way too firm and brushing feels harsh. After a week of using this toothbrush my gums were feeling sensitive from the abuse. So these are going in the garbage. I think there is value to a more expensive and higher quality toothbrush.

Remember that sonicare toothbrush heads are exceptionally high quality, and this can make them a little more expensive than manual toothbrushes. They are certainly worth it however, and if you want to save some money when it comes to buying replacement head, you should consider purchasing multiple heads at the same time.
Oral-B Pro-Health All-In-One toothbrush has been clinically proven to remove more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush with its CrissCross® bristles, which are angled at 16° to attack plaque from the right angle.
It is easy to think that you need specialist brushes and they do exist.  However with a Sonicare electric toothbrush you can use any of the brush heads safely with braces, you do not need a special brush head.
Online reviews – We looked at other peoples’ reviews for two reasons. First, to determine more or less what consumers think about the product. Second, to determine how many of the Amazon reviewers were genuine and how many received a product in return. This is important to us because it speaks about the integrity of the brand and the product. There are Amazon reviewers who make a living by leaving positive reviews for a variety of brands and we know how to spot them.
In addition to achieving an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from an accredited institution, individuals interested in becoming dental hygienists must successfully pass a state-authorized licensure examination, as well as the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination. Generally, the national examination assesses a candidate’s knowledge of the practice of dental assisting, while state or regional examinations are typically designed to assess a hygienist’s clinical skills.
Sonicare Essence is the best among the basic sonic toothbrushes. It’s got nice features for an effective cleaning and for an affordable price. However, for those who want more features like a quadpacer, more modes, and a more sleek design, the above options are more suitable.

You scrub food off of your teeth with it and you brush the icky film off of your tongue with it, but then you  do no more than rinse it and give it a perfunctory shake to clean it.  It’s your toothbrush and cleaning it thoroughly will help you get through this winter’s cold and flu season a little healthier.
As the son of a dentist (sounds bad, doesn’t it!) I can attest to people not brushing enough… I saw this many times, self-reported from patients. The timer helps, but I don’t believe that this is the only factor.
Non-surgical periodontal therapy is concerned primarily with disease prevention, and is accomplished through patient and clinician cooperative interaction. It is normally accomplished with the incorporation of patient education and motivational interviewing, and if appropriate may include discussions regarding nutrition and smoking cessation.[8] The various treatments involved in this phase include;

However, after spending $10 on a double edge safety razor instead of replacing my dead electric shaver, I decided to splurge and bought an Emmi-Dent Pro toothbrush. It actually is ultrasonic – you don’t brush! It’s by far the best electric toothbrush we’ve ever owned.
These are professional dental tartar scraper they come with three or more pieces the mains ones are  a dental pick which cleans particles between the teeth it works like a dental floss, the dental scraper is a metal hook which is used for scraping the plaque and tartar from your teeth and under your gum and last we have the dental mouth mirror which is used to help you see difficult area in the mouth. These tools are not easy to use so it advisable to watch videos on YouTube how to use them yourself , or have someone with experience use them on you . Also use a tartar softener such as the two discussed above before using the pick and scraper to make the job easier.
Oil pulling is an age-old practice that supports oral health and helps remove plaque from teeth. Extra-virgin coconut oil is great for oil pulling because it is high in lauric acid that has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
However, you can Bass brush this surface if you use just the tip of your brush rather than try to fit the whole brush head laying on its side in your mouth.  Using just the front tip of your Bass brush, wiggle the bristles into the gum line along these few front teeth where it’s difficult to get the whole brush head angled correctly.
Dental hygienists work together with other dental professionals, with a higher number working at general practices with Dentists, dental therapists and oral health therapists. A smaller number work at specialist practices alongside orthodontists and periodontists. They help with the contribution of an interdisciplinary approach, aiming to provide optimum oral health care to their patients. Dental hygienists also aim to work inter-professionally to provide holistic oral health care in the best interest of their patient. Dental hygienists also offer expertise in their field and can provide a dental hygiene diagnosis, which is an integral component of the comprehensive dental diagnosis.[7]

Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice.
Interdental brushes come in a range of color-coded sizes. They consist of a handle with a piece of wire covered in tapered bristles, designed to be placed into the interdental space for plaque removal.[1] Studies indicate that interdental brushes are equally or more effective then floss when removing plaque and reducing gum inflammation.[1]
In order to stay up to date with manufacturing trends and technology, we have revamped our list of top performing electric toothbrushes in order to better reflect the current market. A market that is estimated to have grown to $4.1 billion in annual sales and is expected to double that number by 2021.
There are a few different options on the market that can make flossing easier if dexterity or coordination is a barrier, or as a preference over normal floss. Floss threaders are ideal for cleaning between orthodontic appliances, and flossetts are ideal for those with poor dexterity.[1]

Use the right kind of toothbrush and toothpaste. To effectively brush your teeth and ensure that you are getting rid of as much plaque as possible, it is important that you have the right tools. Although there are many fancy toothbrushes on the market, the American Dental Association states that any “soft nylon brush with rounded-end, polished bristles” will do the trick.[1] Hard bristled toothbrushes can be too abrasive and wear away tooth enamel and hurt your gums. Even if you are not using the correct brushing technique, soft bristles will still be better.
Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and provide other preventive dental care. They also educate patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health.

Why: The DiamondClean Smart has some handy sidekicks—its connected app and smart sensor suite. It keeps track of where you brush, where you miss, and where you need to pay more attention. It removes up to 100% more stains in 3 days,** removes up to 10x more plaque* and leaves gums up to 7x healthier in 2 weeks*.
All of the sonicare toothbrushes are designed to provide the optimum shape and size to give the user the maximum benefit from the sonic action. If you have a sonic toothbrush and you choose an authentic Philips brush head that has been designed for the model that you own, you can be sure that you’ll always get the most possible power.
The easiest way to remove plaque is to brush your teeth at least twice per day. You should use a soft toothbrush that you replace at least every three to four months, when the bristles begin to fray. You could also consider using an electric toothbrush, which can be more effective at removing plaque than a traditional toothbrush.
The bristles on this brush head are designed to be angles and trimmed strategically so that you can get a better clean and this toothbrush head has been designed especially to improve the health of your gums. In comparison to a manual toothbrush, this brush head will be able to improve your gums by up to 100%. You would not be able to enjoy such healthy gums if you chose a manual brush, making this brush head a great investment.
All in all, this is a great toothbrush and it is very comparable to the Oral-B’s 7000 series. Philips claims that when fully charged, the battery will last 19 days. When we tested, the battery only lasted 14 days after being charged for 18 hours.
A guy did a full-on replacement of the Oral-B’s native battery with a standard AA Eneloop. He didn’t have to do anything besides solder new leads to the battery and it worked tremendously well – in fact, the brush held its charge far better and worked more effectively with the Eneloop.
Vibrating – this technique creates a rapid buzz against the teeth. Interestingly enough, some Philips toothbrushes offer this feature in addition to their oscillating attribute. The two movements can be triggered to perform simultaneously and destroy plaque that even Chuck Norris could not get to.
Need to brush using a SOFT toothbrush in a slow motion for at least 2 minutes (making sure to not use too much pressure or brush too fast). Please learn how to properly brush and floss (unfortunately many people do not know how). As far as mouthwash, I personally like to use 2 different types, Listerine and Act or Plax. Listerine is great & I have great results with patients, but it can be too harsh to use more than once a day. Most think Listerine burns, which it does when first using it. Dilute it with water 50/50 and every few days increase the Listerine part…… it will ease you into its use.
To us this is evidence that this setting represents the most effective cleaning action the brush can make and non-31,000 strokes/min modes are inferior. (They also state the EasyStart must be deactivated, which is another lower-power setting.)
All contemporary high-end electric toothbrushes come standard with rechargeable batteries that are charged using inductive charging. Such toothbrushes are not new to the market, however, they have been subjected to continuous improvement based on scientific research. Or, so do large manufacturers want us to believe.
The affordable Oral-B Pro 1000 makes taking good care of your teeth easy. You can pay more for additional features, but according to the experts, there’s no need to—this simple, entry-level brush cleans your teeth as well as any of the many more expensive brushes.
it seems like there’s a bit of a lapse here. you say the Oral-B is better because it is compatible with more brush heads, and yet there seems to be no scientific evidence that different brush heads can clean your teeth better. that’s what we really need. it seems like an unscientific reason to choose the Oral-B for, especially since you refer admiringly to the polishing cup and rubber flap brush heads as if they actually do anything. how do we know they’re not just gimmicks? for all we know the simpler Sonicare brush heads are all you need.
Today’s busy lifestyles typically cause large amounts of stress that can raise hormones to an unhealthy level in the body. Factors like smoking, drinking too much and overeating also contribute to poor arterial health. All of these things together can cause weight gain and blockages in the arteries.
Sonimart makes a replacement brush Sonimart Standard Replacement Toothbrush Heads for Philips Sonicare ProResults HX6013, HX6014 4 pack that sells on Amazon for $14.95. Amazon labels these as the #1 best seller, and 2,180 reviews give them an average of 4.3 of 5 stars. What do you think of these?
The job market for dental hygienists is booming. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the occupation will grow nearly 20 percent by 2026, which is much faster than the average growth rate for most professions. This swell in jobs is likely due to the increased awareness among consumers of how oral health is linked to their overall health.
The Oral-B Pro 1000 brush comes with a minimal charging pedestal that simply requires dropping the brush onto a peg. Fully charged, it lasts for at least a week of twice-daily two-minute brushing sessions before needing a recharge, which is on a par with the other toothbrushes we tested in this price range and plenty for most people.
The Oral-B Genius 8000 can track the brush’s position in your mouth, thanks to on-board location sensors and access to your phone’s front-facing camera. (For more on our experience with the Genius, see “Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 Review: Who Needs a Smart Toothbrush?”) Smart capabilities aside, the brush itself, like our pick, is a reliable tool. Like other models in the Oral-B line, it has more cleaning modes than necessary and is compatible with any of the company’s replacement heads. And like the Pro 3000, the Genius has an on-board pressure sensor that flashes red when you brush too hard (no app necessary). If you travel with an electric toothbrush, you’ll appreciate the included case, which can charge the brush handle and a phone. Still, unless you find that being “watched” helps motivate you to thoroughly brush regions in your mouth you’d usually miss, you could spend half the cost of this brush for another habit-tracking smart model, such as the Pro 3000, or less than a quarter of the cost for an equally great clean with our pick.

The sanitizer reviews above will suit almost everyone. But there is one other option that a lot of people like too. The Steripod toothbrush sanitizer (get them here) – which is a totally different approach. There is no UV light, no batteries, just a little ‘pod’ that you clip onto the head of your brush after using it.
Our toothbrushes end up in his mouth, on the floor, behind furniture…you get the idea. Germs from all over the house end up on our toothbrushes. If we replaced our toothbrushes every day, we would go broke. So, we learned to do the next best thing…disinfect them.
Soniccare are junk and the company does not stand behind their product. I had one with a defective battery and it started to smell bad. The only thing I got from their customer service is 15% off to purchase another one with free shipping. Why would I purchase another product from your company when you don’t stand behind the product I bought? Go with Oral B.

Fix Sonicare Brush Heads Which Ones

Overall, we preferred the Quip. You get the supplies you need to brush effectively (a replacement head and two tubes of toothpaste — a small travel-sized tube for two weeks and a larger one for three months), but we aren’t convinced a subscription is worth it yet. After all, subscription services like Brusher Club allow you to sign up for replacement heads for popular models, and you can always order a 3-monthly subscription for replacement heads from Amazon. Honestly, subscription services don’t actually offer anything we can’t find elsewhere.
Consider a sanitizer. There are commercially available “toothbrush sanitizers,” but there’s no solid evidence to suggest that they actually keep toothbrushes cleaner than simply rinsing them with water after use and allowing them to dry. If you want to try a sanitizer, look for one that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for “reducing bacterial contamination that occurs naturally on toothbrushes.” Be suspicious of sanitizing products that make unrealistic claims. And never try to clean your toothbrush by putting it in the dishwasher or microwave; the high temperatures can damage the brush.
Yes, has it. – The DiamondClean Smart, DiamondClean, FlexCare Platinum Connected, FlexCare+ (plus), HealthyWhite+ (plus), Sonicare 3 series gum health, Sonicare 2 series plaque control, Sonicare for Kids, Essence+ and Essence models all feature this mode.
As you’ll see below there’s a giant price difference between the top and bottom-end Sonicares. And based on this single factor alone, it’s easy enough to anticipate that while some models may share similar features and specifications, they’re probably not really equals. (It’s been our experience that some Sonicare representatives are pretty quick to harp this point when you call with questions.)
Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written before about a certain splurgy Sonicare electric toothbrush (which makes an appearance on this list), an impressive self-cleaning electric toothbrush, and a charcoal toothbrush beloved by The Wing’s Audrey Gelman, here we’re investigating the best electric toothbrushes on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)
Looking forward to a review on “Water Flossers” or Dental irrigators. My kids dentist recommended them over traditional floss. There are so many of them available, so a review by wirecutter would be nice 😉
I fully agree that the “extra features” are largely useless. But, bottom line, a powered brush makes sense based on everything I have seen. I don’t care if it’s Sonicare or OralB… both should be better than manual…
Additional Oral-b features – Information about the Oral-b Bluetooth/Smartphone app and the wireless Smartguide, as well as what we think of them. Also details about Oral-b brushing timers, quadrant timers and brushing pressure indicators, as well as charging units, operating voltages and battery types.

For this best-value type of choice, we used to lean toward the Sonicare 3 Series. Now it seems (especially in light of some of the comments posted below and on retailer websites) that buying the HealthyWhite+ makes the better choice (both in performance and reliability).
The Oral-B Pro 1000 Electric Toothbrush is also a great choice — it cleans just as well as the Sonicare 2 Series, but may be a little harsher for sensitive gums. As an oscillating model, it vibrates a bit slower than our top pick, which means the toothbrush will be less likely to tickle your teeth — a potentially uncomfortable sensation typical of sonic toothbrushes. The Oral-B also offers a built-in quad-pacer that breaks its two-minute timer into four 30 second intervals for even brushing throughout your mouth. At $30 the Oral-B 1000 is also incredibly affordable.
Like an associate’s degree, you’ll have to complete prerequisite coursework for a bachelor’s program. While many of your classes—dental anatomy, radiology, dental materials—will be the same whether you earn an associate’s or bachelor’s, the latter will allow you to dig deeper into the profession.
people make fun of me because my teeth are yellow , its because , if i brush i teeth too ruff my gums will gush out blood , so when i brush my teeth , i cant get all the plaque off my teeth , and i eat alot , so plaque always build up especially when i eat batter stuff , like bread , muffins , pancakes , etc … i used the activated charcoal , it had my teeth looking white for about ten minutes then they get yellow again … im afraid to try the baking soda and salt method because like i dont know if its gonna hurt my gums and teeth or not
First, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with ½ teaspoon of salt into the cup. After you wet the toothbrush with warm water, dip it into the mixture. Scrub teeth with it and spit. Continue the same process for five minutes.
To become a dental hygienist, you’ll need either a 2- or 4-year degree in dental hygiene. Most programs are two years long and lead to an associate’s degree. They are offered through community colleges and technical colleges.
Comments: The Essence isn’t as glamorous a brush as the more modern Sonicares but it creates the same 31,000 brush-strokes-per-minute brushing action they do. However, as compared to higher-end models, this one’s mechanism seems to be less powerful. And from what we’ve read in terms of user comments, people who have owned other models may not be satisfied with the brushing experience this one delivers.
Water flossing is the most effective method of flossing to remove  plaque and tartar base on a number of clinical studies done(2) (3) . With the force of water,r it removes plaque from your tooth in areas where your toothbrush and string floss would not reach . To obtain the best result from a water floss you should use warm water along with a solution to soften the plaque such as the Plax or Periogen. You can read more about the types of water flossers here.
They are actually quieter and vibrates less than older models including DiamondClean. I do not know if they simply swapped connecting part or they did redesign entire upper half; but it is smooth. It may be that since it is bigger, it acts as a better counterbalance to vibration.

An advice to the Flecare+ is to also buy the diamond clean brush heads for even a smoother cleaning feeling or even the adaptive clean brush heads (The adaptive clean heads I think are very good but those I have not tried yet). The Flexcare brush head is very good to remove tartar, but the diamond clean makes your teeth even more silky and glossy and maybe slightly more comfortable to brush with, but already the Flexcare brush head is extremely good for the silky feeling.
The Philips Sonicare 2 Series is one of the least expensive Sonicare brushes, at around $50. This brush is quieter than our recommended Oral-B model, with a more subtle motion (though the vibrations can feel slightly more uncomfortable when the back of the brush knocks against your other teeth). The 2 Series also has twice the battery life of the Oral-B, lasting two weeks on a single charge instead of one week (in our tests it lasted for 16 days of use), so it might be a better choice for travelers.
In addition to regular dental hygiene, you can use some natural remedies to remove plaque and tartar. Remember, once the tartar has mineralized on your teeth, it is extremely difficult to remove. However, if you regularly remove plaque, it can help prevent permanent tooth decay.
The ProResults brush heads have angled, radial trimmed bristles that are 10% wider angle than typical brush heads and are designed to squeeze around teeth better. They have standard and compact sizes.
1. Pull the brush head away from the brush handle with a small amount of force to release the connection. There will likely be a click and you will revel a metal prong that is the shaft that connects to the motor. The head is now detached.
That being said, I’m replacing it, and I may be switching to a Sonicare with some of those unnecessary features simply because I have certain issues that weren’t addressed. We have really hard water where I live. My brush is permanently discolored. I can’t remove the buildup from parts of it or the charging base. This stuff can’t be good for my teeth. I don’t want to buy a container for a five-year-old toothbrush that’s already caked with calcium and limescale.
Overall, we found the oscillating-format Oral-B toothbrushes to be louder and more sonically grating than the vibrating format of the Sonicare brushes we tested. Without a point of comparison, it’s possible our slight annoyance would go away as we got used to it.
Most, though not all, of the brushes came with additional brush heads, which is nice because replacements can be costly. Some supplied 10 or more heads – presumably enough to last the life of the brush – though a few only came with one.
Recommendation for specific clinical conditions Gently adjusts to the contour of your teeth for up to 4x more surface contact to effortlessly remove your hard-to-reach plaque Clinically proven to reduce gum inflammation up to 100% more after 2 weeks of use (in Gum Health mode) Removes up to 100% more stains than a manual toothbrush for whiter teeth in just 3 days (In White+ mode)
The bristles rotation gets triggered as soon as the brush head begins to oscillate. The average Oral-B oscillating device produces between 3,000 and 7,500 rotations per minute. In addition, some models have pulsating features added. This allows for further and deeper cleaning of plaque. In comparison, manual toothbrushing moves at around 400 strokes per minute. Hardly a competition when it comes to speed.
I have used an electric toothbrush for almost 7 years. I have had three total – two Sonicares and the Oral-B recommended in this post. The $$ involved for electric toothbrushes gives me pause but I cannot go back to manual (goosebumps).

Wow. I have now bought and own both a FlexCare and a DiamondClean model. The difference in vibration between these models and the 2 Series is many times over. My teeth feel much cleaner, the strength/power of the vibrations is much more intense with these higher end models.

Higher-priced Oral-B models don’t have much more to offer than our pick. Investing $50 into the Pro 1000 gets you access to the same set of brush heads as buying the $150 Oral-B Black 7000 model (with the exception of a couple of less widely available models).
Correct teeth brushing remains essential to a good oral health. Unfortunately, many of us rush through this exercise in order to get it done. This way a lot of destructive bacteria remains and slowly causes the formation of plaque and eventually tooth decay.

To bring this discussion out of theory and into real time use, notice right now while you’re reading this that there is most likely a small pool of saliva under your tongue.  This saliva is essentially waiting to be used to support your oral health.
My flexcare finally died after 5 years of use (best brush ive ever owned, though the uv bulb cleaner died after only less than 2 years) , so ive been to both target and bbb and came home to compare the models, hoping i didnt need to get the top model anymore, and wow was this so informative, kinda sad the series 2 doesnt have the quadpacer or that would easily be the best buy, but i do need that option.

I don’t see any indication in the discussion as to the multi-voltage capabilities of the chargers associated with the rated items. I think that that is a vital consideration for any electronic drive that you might travel with. I am now on my 2nd electric toothbrush (a Sonicare R910 that I have had several years). The charger can handle the 220-240 voyage range common in most of the world. It replaced an older Sonicare base model (battery died) whose charger could only handle US voltages, and, thus, was useless for foreign travel of more than a few days.
The Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush is a top notch toothbrush by Philips. It’s the most advanced and the top rated Sonicare toothbrush with a very stylish design that would appeal to any gadget lover. For different preferences, it’s available in black and white colors.
Get regular, professional cleanings. Even if you implement the most rigorous oral hygiene routine at home, you can still benefit from a visit to the dentist every six months or so. Only a dentist can give you the thorough, professional cleaning which will remove the most hard-to-reach plaque and stubborn tartar.
As you begin your journey toward a dental hygiene education, it can be beneficial to shadow a dental hygienist in your area. Not only will the experience give you a chance to see the ins-and-outs of the profession, but some schools will value (and sometimes require) this additional step.
As with most of the toothbrush models we tested, the battery life indicator on the Pro 1000 is vague: It lets you know when the battery is full (a continuous green light for five seconds after you remove it from the charging base) and when it is “low” (a red flashing light after turning the brush off). Oral-B does not specify how long it takes to get the brush to a full charge, but you can charge it every day without significantly affecting the battery’s capacity as long as you deplete it fully once every six months.
Functional Design – High quality standard medium bristles replacement Sonicare toothbrush heads made with end-rounded US Dupont Tynex Nylon bristles for offer exceptional cleaning of tooth surface and deep between the teeth.Effectively removes plaque without irritating gums.
Sucrose (table sugar) is most commonly associated with cavities. The amount of sugar consumed at any one time is less important than how often food and drinks that contain sugar are consumed. The more frequently sugars are consumed, the greater the time during which the tooth is exposed to low pH levels, at which point demineralisation occurs (below 5.5 for most people). It is important therefore to try to encourage infrequent consumption of food and drinks containing sugar so that teeth have a chance to be repaired by remineralisation and fluoride. Limiting sugar-containing foods and drinks to meal times is one way to reduce the incidence of cavities. Sugars from fruit and fruit juices, e.g., glucose, fructose, and maltose can also cause cavities.
The war on battery life is important because there are still some big gaps between leading manufacturers. There are certain toothbrushes that take 24 hours to charge fully, while others take 12 hours. Once fully charged some devices can last up to six weeks when used twice a day. In comparison, there are still devices that will not last half of that time.
It does not matter how fast and coordinated your hand movement is, it will not outperform 31,000 brush strokes per minute. In this regard, manual toothbrushes are becoming obsolete. The truth is that faster movements make cleaning your teeth more effective and efficient. There is less time wasted while more plaque and bacteria are being eliminated.
Per the ADA’s recommendations, the only necessary thing in toothbrushing is a basic toothbrush that you use properly. As of September 2017, five models from Oral-B have received the ADA Seal of Acceptance (including our pick).1 But regardless of the manufacturer, powered electric toothbrushes have been shown to provide superior dental care to manual toothbrushing—they remove more plaque and reduce gingivitis at statistically significant rates.2 If you find yourself struggling to meet two minutes, if you tend to brush unevenly, or if you find manual brushing to be too much labor, upgrading from a manual toothbrush to an electric one that automates these elements would make sense.
Thanks for your very helpful articles on the Sonicare models. They were really useful for cutting through the fat so to speak. I ended up purchasing the series 3 gum health. Unfortunately I didn’t realize that the user can’t disable smart timer or quadpacer on this model if desired (others with mode button can disable quad pacer). I also didn’t realize that the toothbrush shuts off after two minutes (smarttimer). Not sure if i just missed out on this, or if it needs to be added. Not a huge problem; i may actually need these timers to brush properly for at least two minutes.
Suitable for a variety of users, but particularly those looking to improve gum health.   In just 2 weeks the results can be seen and Phillips suggest up to 7 times more plaque removal than a manual brush.
It is usually common sense for adults not to swap toothbrushes with each other, but young children need to be taught which toothbrush is theirs and to only use their toothbrush. Color coding or writing names on the toothbrush will help. When people use each others toothbrushes the also swap each other’s germs and could easily cause sickness.
Sugars are commonly associated with dental cavities. Other carbohydrates, especially cooked starches, e.g. crisps/potato chips, may also damage teeth, although to a lesser degree (and indirectly) since starch has to be converted to glucose by salivary amylase (an enzyme in the saliva) first. Sugars that are higher in the stickiness index, such as toffee, are likely to cause more damage to teeth than those that are lower in the stickiness index, such as certain forms of chocolate or most fruits.
The only downside of our Oral-B pick is that it comes with a somewhat strange and overactive brush head with two moving parts. Fortunately, Oral-B offers a wide variety of brush heads that are generally more affordable than those from Sonicare. If you choose to buy the Pro 1000 brush, we suggest planning on buying a different set of brush heads in the very near term, even before you will naturally need a replacement. (Brush heads should be replaced every three months.)

The humble sesame seed can be used as an active dental scrub. It will gently remove plaque and tartar, without damaging teeth. To achieve this, just pop a handful of sesame seeds into your mouth. Chew them up, but do not swallow them. Take an old toothbrush (dry) and brush your teeth while the seeds are still in your mouth. They will act as a scrub and delicately scour the surface of stained teeth.
This page takes you through a comparison of the current Sonicare rechargeable electric toothbrush line up, in an attempt to single out those select models that tend to make a better choice in terms of function and value (are a “best-buy”).
The purpose of this study was to determine to what degree the vibratory action of powered toothbrushes was dampened when applying brushing force. The specific Sonicare tested was the Elite (a model similar in design to the Essence).
Priced under $100, the Sensonic comes with 3 brush heads and a travel case. Considering that it also has the QuadPacer and EasyStart modes, together with a 2-speed setting, this Waterpik electric toothbrush is a bargain.
“The crux of this issue is that the Sonicare has no clinical evidence to show that it’s better at cleaning than a normal brush whereas the Oral-B does. Lots of it. You can click the links and read the papers for yourself.”

This brush head simply clicks on and off your brush handle for a secure fit and easy maintenance and cleaning and is compatible with all Sonicare brushes with the exception of PowerUp Battery and Essence models.
Was sold a counterfeit product by Office Supply Experts. The heads rubber seal broke much sooner than normal, and the fit with the toothbrush was loose. Upon further inspection, I see the heads say PHILLIPS sonicare on them, but the official ones are supposed to say E-series. BEWARE!
All Oral-B rechargeable models – A comprehensive review of the features/prices of all of the current Oral-b rechargeable models. Some comparisons between each of the individual toothbrush lines are made.
I went ahead and fixed the brush-head by separating the plate from the base of the head, and the magnets – from the plate, and gluing them with superglue, and now the brush is working just fine. But why should one have to do that?
Thank you for the time you took to research and write this article. You answered every question I had and would have taken me hours to research on my own. I now know what I need and more importantly what I don’t need. Thanks again for all your help.
We’d be of the impression that at least a part of what you mention is a reference to Sonicare’s rating of the brush head that comes with the Diamond Clean as compared to the Easy Clean’s ProResults head. Those are the exact numbers (7x vs 2x) that are stated on the Sonicare website for those respective heads.
“The Sonicare toothbrush is a workhorse. There’s no doubt about that. If you inspect the back of your teeth, you can usually see a small layer of plaque. Well, the Sonicare toothbrush is your answer to the best at home cleaning, after about two days of brushing, my teeth were noticeably cleaner. My colleagues were asking me if I whitened my teeth lol. I can never go back to a manual toothbrush. 32,000 brush strokes a minute, think about that. If you care about how your teeth look, then this is a great investment.”
In everyday use the Neurora brush head performed almost the exact same as the Sonicare heads. The Neurora brush heads have slightly fewer bristles per grouping so they feel just a tiny bit softer. This was not a significant change to me and I am usually very sensitive to changes. Finally, the fit is nice and tight on the toothbrush handle so no worries of the brush head falling off.
Electric toothbrushes come in two different styles — oscillating or sonic. There’s debate about which type offers a better clean for your teeth, but it turns out choosing a style largely depends on comfort and personal preference.
Design and features: We asked our testers to try the features of their toothbrushes to see which actually encouraged better brushing technique and which were all hype. For instance, the different brushing modes on the Jim Ellis seemed to differ mostly in sound. Our testers for other toothbrushes agreed that differences in brushing modes felt negligible and unnecessary. Some offered features that our testers found helpful, like how the Philips Sonicare 2 Series automatically shuts off after the two-minute timer to prevent over-brushing. Oral-B models will pulse to let you know your time is up, but they don’t turn off. Which means, if you miss the vibration, you can accidentally over-brush and damage your teeth and gums.
Sometimes a higher price tag is justified by the number of modes the electric toothbrush comes equipped with. There are models that allow users to adjust a variety of settings based on their current needs. For instance, some of those settings include deep cleaning mode, sensitive gums mode, whitening mode and massage mode. These modes are also often accompanied by the ability to change between rotating, oscillating, vibrating and pulsating motions.
Everyone develops plaque because bacteria are constantly growing in our mouths, so it is not easy to see. Plaque that is not removed from around the gum line can cause inflammation and irritation to the gums around your teeth.
There is much debate about whether electric is always better when it comes to brushing. For the most part, it is down to personal choice. However, studies have shown, time and again, that electric brushes are more efficient at removing built up material on teeth.
Dental hygienists earned a median annual salary of $72,910 in 2016, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On the low end, dental hygienists earned a 25th percentile salary of $60,500, meaning 75 percent earned more than this amount. The 75th percentile salary is $86,390, meaning 25 percent earn more. In 2016, 207,900 people were employed in the U.S. as dental hygienists.

In my experience they are just as bad in terms of reliability, I’ve bought five of these 1000 series brushes in the last four years. That said, I still feel like they’re the best toothbrush out there for the money. Without user replaceable batteries, these things just inevitably die.
Solid Construct – 31,000 movements per minute, plus the user applied pressure, can cause some toothbrushes to crumble and break. So, it is imperative that the body of the electric unit is made of solid material and the brush head attaches well.
A guy did a full-on replacement of the Oral-B’s native battery with a standard AA Eneloop. He didn’t have to do anything besides solder new leads to the battery and it worked tremendously well – in fact, the brush held its charge far better and worked more effectively with the Eneloop.

Just went on vacation and was battling the beginning of a cold. Did everything you can think of not to be sick on vacation and I conquered it and was great all through vacation. My son was prescribed a zpack before we left and took it starting a day before we left and immediately got better. FYI I took a diff toothbrush on trip. When I got back 2 weeks later (brushed with toothbrush I had at home) and my throat started hurting exactly how it had two weeks before and ended up having to take a zpack 1.5 weeks later to get rid of it. After reading this post I think it was my toothbrush. I store it in a plastic open container in a drawer so it is not upright and it is dark and now I see that bacteria can live 2 weeks in the dark and I live in a very humid area so very well could have been my toothbrush!!! Thanks for the great tips, I will change my toothbrush habits and teach my family too!!
Prior to this, dental hygienists were first domestically trained in 1974 for use in the New Zealand Defence Force. The one-year course was taught by the Royal New Zealand Dental Corp at the Burnham army base outside Christchurch.[12] Hygiene training was briefly offered at the Wellington School for Dental Nurses in 1990 as 2 week a supplement to Dental Therapy students training.[12] However, this was quickly discontinued.[12]
The other problem with the Cochrane report is that though it’s conducted by a nonprofit, it includes in its survey studies that are conducted by companies testing their own toothbrush products. Unsurprisingly, we’ve never found a study published by P&G’s Oral-B that has found its electric toothbrushes inferior to another brand; the same goes for Philips’s Sonicare. This doesn’t necessarily apply to every study, but it applies to a gross majority of the toothbrush research available. But caveats about biased research aside, scientists do consistently find that an electric toothbrush is significantly better at removing plaque and reducing gingivitis in the average person’s mouth.
Dental sealants, which are applied by dentists, cover and protect fissures and grooves in the chewing surfaces of back teeth, preventing food from becoming trapped and thereby halt the decay process. An elastomer strip has been shown to force sealant deeper inside opposing chewing surfaces and can also force fluoride toothpaste inside chewing surfaces to aid in remineralising demineralised teeth.[8]
The flexibility of the string allows to wrap it up around the tooth and scrape off stubborn plaque residue. Traditional floss is also very cost effective when compared to electric toothbrushes and their inevitable need for replacement parts.

Variety: Dental hygienists use a variety of interpersonal and clinical skills to meet the oral health needs of many different patients each day. They may also provide oral health instruction in primary and secondary schools and other settings.
Upon speaking to Philips regarding Sonicare 3 series HX3361/02 and Healthy White HX6731/02. Trying to get how low, med, high on 3 series compares to Healthy White sen, clean/white, clean. I was told told they match up the same…..every choice has 31,000 brush strokes per minute but just vary with intensity ….and that is what trying to get answer….what are the intensities?

There are several commercially available toothbrush sanitizers on the market. Although data do not demonstrate that they provide a specific health benefit, if a consumer chooses to use one of these devices, the Council recommends that they select a product cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Products cleared by the FDA are required to provide data to the Agency to substantiate cleared claims. Examples of claims that have been cleared by the FDA for these products include:
Good to know. I am in California too and thinking of becoming a RDH. I also considered sonography and nursing but think this might be the right choice. I am currently a massage therapist and it’s just too physically demanding and also super inconsistent as it is not a necessity but a luxury to most people. I hear that RDH is physical too but I feel maybe less so? Or possibly just different. I love the idea of not working 5 days as I do lots of things and the hours are way better than nursing and sonography. At this point in life I would prefer not to work late nights, on call or all weekends and holidays. There has to be a balance in everything.

In the past, the manuals for the Elite and Essence lines (older-style models that use e-Series brush heads) recommended a 6 month interval (now changed to 3). So, for whatever reason, Philips Sonicare designers seem to be working in the wrong direction in regard to this matter.

The best electric toothbrush is easy to use, comes with extra bristle heads, improves your brushing technique, and is somewhat inexpensive. But, finding a model that is gentle on the teeth and gums, while eliminating plaque and food debris, is no easy task.
That is exactly what is bad about ALL these brushes but doesn’t get a mention in the review – the built-in obsolescence via the needlessly built-in battery. I guess you have to have some environmental heart to care about that. I guess you also have to live in a typical ex-colony where the cost means something. What Europeans and Americans throw away appals me.
Sonicare For Kids – These toothbrush heads are to be used with the sonicare for kid’s rechargeable toothbrush. The brush heads are designed to fit better in children’s mouths and as a result, they are smaller than the standard adult toothbrush heads. In addition, these are softer brush heads. If you have particularly soft gums or if you have sensitive teeth, you could even use these brush heads for your own use as the soft bristle ensure a more gentle clean.
To us this is evidence that this setting represents the most effective cleaning action the brush can make and non-31,000 strokes/min modes are inferior. (They also state the EasyStart must be deactivated, which is another lower-power setting.)
Using organic sesame oil great for oil pulling 1tbsp sesame oil 1 tbsp hot or warm water not (boiling) swish in mouth for 45min or as long as you can until you make it up to 45min good for reducing oral plaque. It’s not that I am not pleased with the review; I think the inclusion of this information could make them much better. Hopefully, you would include it on the checklist that you use when you initially qualify products for review.
Oil pulling is an age-old practice that supports oral health and helps remove plaque from teeth. Extra-virgin coconut oil is great for oil pulling because it is high in lauric acid that has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
InterCare – The InterCare sonicare toothbrush head is the same price as the DiamondClean brush head, but rather than focusing on the cosmetic aspects of your teeth, instead, it helps you to enjoy better gum health. In just 2 weeks, you can experience improved gum health. If you already experience gingivitis or receding gums, you should use this toothbrush as it will prevent the problem from getting worse, will clean your teeth and gums effectively, and in the case of gingivitis, it can even treat it so that eventually this condition will go away. Even if you have healthy gums at the moment, you should consider purchasing the Intercare brush head, as it will ensure that your gums won’t recede and it can also prevent gingivitis and other gum problems. Although it doesn’t promise to remove the stains from your teeth like the DiamondClean brush head does, it is still capable of removing 7 times the amount of plaque that your manual toothbrush would. These toothbrush heads are designed so that the bristles can get in between your teeth for better gum cleaning and it has a pop on brush head for easy installation. This toothbrush head fits many models of Sonicare toothbrush models including the DiamondClean, FlexCare Platinum, FlexCare+, FlexCare, HealthyWhite and EasyClean models. You’ll know when you need to change your brush head, as the blue bristles will gradually fade to white.
Arteries are a critical blood vessel in circulation. These are the large blood vessels that send oxygenated blood from the heart and lungs out to the rest of the body. Due to unhealthy diet, age and lack of exercise, plaque can accumulate on the walls of the arteries and ultimately lead to heart attacks and strokes. Most often, doctors use medical treatments to reduce plaque when it is severe. The good news is you can take steps to cut down on plaque naturally before you get to that point.
Dental hygienists school programs usually require both general education courses and courses specific to the field of dental hygiene. General education courses important to dental hygiene degrees include college level algebra, biology, and chemistry. Courses specific to dental hygiene may include anatomy, oral anatomy, materials science, pharmacology, radiography, periodontology, nutrition, and clinical skills.[citation needed]
We will point out that Sonicare has used the word “reminder” when naming these bristles, meaning they’re not necessarily a precise indicator. Online user comments we read typically stated that the color change signaled replacement before a full 3 months had lapsed.
THANK YOU, vey much for your information which was very significant to me and it should also be for other persons. They have to keeep in mind, that you did not have to do this and you did it out of the kindness of your heart.THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU, so much and may you continue to do what you do best and may GOD bless you and your loved ones.BEST WISHES TO YOU.
When it comes to finding the best toothbrush head, we learned that hard bristles is never the way to go. Dr. Ronald Rosenthal, a dentist with over 50 years of experience, explained “the softest bristles available are the best to use. You don’t need a hard bristle, you’re just going to tear up your gums.” All of our electric toothbrush models came with standard heads with soft bristles. But for those who are wondering about whether hard bristles will offer a better scrub, the answer is no.
We have to assume that these numbers represent the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). But on more than one occasion we found online retailers displaying a higher “listed” price (which makes their “discounted” price look better).
That includes the way it looks (although you can just leave the decorative stickers off), and the way its brushing timer (which you can’t turn off) functions and sounds. If you’re an adult and considering this brush, you really must use the link below to learn more about it so to make sure you want to put up with these features.
I got mine when I think they must have had only one model. Last time I tried to replace the brush, I had no idea of which one to get. I would also like to replace the unit, since the battery doesn’t hold well any more. Now I have some idea of where to start.

Hello everyone, i am a junior in highschool and i have been interested in becoming a dental hygienist for a while now, i’ve been debating being a flight attendant or a dental hygenist. but reading these negative comments are making me wonder if i should re-evaluate my decision! i have always enjoyed going to the dentist as a child. flying in airplanes for a career and not coming home at the end of every day just doesn’t fit me! i’m more interested in an easy going job that won’t put me completely on my a** at the end of the day with enough cash to support myself. as a little girl i’ve dreamed of having a career such as this, and i don’t like hearing it can be a huge mistake! if somebody could tell me what schooling i must go through, and if being a dental hygenist is a good choice for a girl like me.

Counter oscillating – Is the last type of electric cleaning motion that toothbrushes come equipped with. The idea of this design is to allow each tuft of bristles to rotate in the opposite way of its neighbor. For instance, while one tuft may be rotating clockwise, its neighboring tufts could be going in a counter-clockwise direction.
I sold my DiamondClean and now using two Essence+. While material of DiamondClean (ceramic paint) is nice, as long as it gives same cleaning I could care less. I also love travelling with inexpensive full powered electric toothbrush than DiamondClean.
Consider a toothbrush sanitizer. While studies do not show any particular benefit to these devices, you can purchase one that has been cleared by the FDA. Toothbrush sanitizers kill up to 99.9% of bacteria on the brush. (Sterilizing means that 100% of bacteria and living organisms have been killed, and no commercial toothbrush cleaner can claim this.)
Soaking your toothbrush in antibacterial mouthwash for ten minutes after your illness ends may kill germs that might cause a return of the illness; however, it is a better idea to simply replace the toothbrush.[18]
That’s pretty much what you’ll notice with the cheaper Sonicares. They will deliver the promised 31,000 brush-strokes-per-minute. But the power of the brush won’t be the same as the higher-end models, nor will the smoothness of their brushing action.
Do not let toothbrushes come into contact with one another. If you are storing multiple toothbrushes in one container, make sure they do not touch, as this will allow for the transfer of bacteria and bodily fluids from one brush to another.[8]
While we love to dive into interesting, important and sometimes obscure topics like how oil pulling helps heal leaky gut and how smiling contributes to greater immune expression, today let’s go back to basics and discuss one of the most frequently asked questions we get around how to brush our teeth.

We’ve gone through two sets of double Phillips Sonicare Flexcare brushes and love them, except they ALWAYS die, typically within 9 months. Phillips will back them once and send a replacement, but once you’ve passed a year your out of luck. We’ve had all four brushed die within a year, as well as their replacements (undoubtedly refurbs) die all within 6 months. It’s simply not worth the hassle. Now, sadly, I’ll be taking the leap over to Oral B to see if they can provide something that will actually last.
This is by no stretch of the imagination the most technological electric toothbrush on the market. As a matter of fact, it is quite the opposite. While it does have the patented 3D cleaning action (oscillating, pulsating and vibrating), a functioning pressure sensor and a timer, the 1000 series comes only with one cleaning mode. Despite being short on cleaning functions, we found this toothbrush to be quite effective in removing plaque.
One argument in favor of electric toothbrushes is that they do such a good work, that eventually you will save money by not going to the dentist as often. While this is a far stretched argument, there is some truth to that statement. Realistically speaking, a solid sonic toothbrush should be able to keep your teeth in good health. Considering you are using it twice a day with no cheat days. Keeping your teeth healthy can, in fact, lower your visits to the dental clinic considerably.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) adds that soaking your toothbrush could lead to cross-contamination if you use the same disinfectant over a period of time, or share disinfectant between users.[14]

However, the rechargable battery in the brush has just failed (after 18 months of daily use) and is not replaceable. Not good. I liked this system better than a single plug-in brush, but now I’m not so sure.
When it comes to chewing ice, many might think it will do no harm since ice is made from water. However, chewing on solid objects such as ice can have catastrophic consequences for your teeth. Chipping may occur and this can lead to more tooth fractures in the future. Chewing on ice has been linked to symptoms of anemia. People with anemia tend to want to eat food with no nutritional value.[42][43]
So, I bought the Oral-B. I have used the app, and while it has some annoyances, the ability to track my toothbrushing habits is cool. I am a tech nerd after all. Reminders for flossing and mouthwash are on by default, but you can disable them. A suction mount to hold your phone on your bathroom mirror is included. I also like that you can setup the app to automatically order replacement brush heads through Amazon when the one you’re using at the end of its life. I found the overall noise to be more than tolerable, but there’s also usually music playing in my home no matter the hour.
This discussion however relates how two Sonicare publications reported that two different models whitened teeth to the same degree, yet at that point in time when the separate studies were done, only one of the brushes actually featured a fancy whitening mode. The other just the standard 31,000 stroke/min mode.
Diabetes, or elevated circulating blood sugar, is also a major culprit. Even people who have elevated sugars not yet at the level of diabetes, such as seen in metabolic syndrome, also have increased risk of plaque formation.
Regular dental appointments are also critical in preventing additional plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth. Your dentist will scrape and clean your teeth so they’re free of plaque and tartar. They may also perform a fluoride treatment, which can prevent and slow the growth of plaque bacteria and buildup of tartar on your teeth. This helps prevent tooth decay.

They are quite unsightly and can spoil a lovely smile, so cleaning is a really useful thing for patients. It cannot, of course, be a substitute for regular brushing and flossing. If you want your teeth to stay healthy (and in your mouth), you need to clean properly, avoid eating too much sugar, and be on friendly terms with your local dental specialist.

Is awesome. Thank g-d for your website. It’s gorgeous with clear, concise, accurate information. A consumer’s dream. I cannot find a better reason to trust your information. Thank you so very much. Wow.
People swear by all sorts of folk wisdom when it comes to keeping a clean toothbrush. Some run it through the dishwasher. Others soak the head in mouthwash or effervescent denture cleaner. Still others freeze it, boil it or invest in a pricey ultraviolet toothbrush “sanitizer.” Advertising Policy Cleveland Clinic is a non-profit academic medical … Read More
Use your eyes to protect your teeth. “When you can visually see discoloration, buildup or matting of the bristles, it’s time to change the toothbrush,” says Dr. Kahn. “It should look clean and straight.” Rinse well to dislodge any chunks of residual toothpaste.

Dental hygiene programs are commonly found in community colleges, technical schools, and universities. In 2017, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, part of the American Dental Association, accredited more than 300 dental hygiene programs.
Avoid brushing with pressure when you use baking soda as toothpaste. Also, do not use baking soda for more than five days in a row because it is abrasive and may damage your tooth enamel if you use it too often.
I would say change your toothbrush every six months or so. Hydrogen peroxide is fantastic for disinfecting them(I did it last week!), but you don’t want the bristles to get worn out or frayed. I love the different purposes hydrogen peroxide has, and I also use it as a teeth whitening wash 🙂 Thanks for sharing! I’ll be using this to disinfect my retainer.
Although it’s not necessary to work as a dental hygienist, a graduate degree in the field can propel you into careers in education, leadership, advocacy and administration. Dental hygienists with advanced dental hygienist schooling often go on to work as:
If you can not afford to go to the dentist please find a dental school. Dental hygienist schools require students to clean teeth and they need hard cases . You could even be paid for your time ! Please do not attempt to do these cleanings at home . Brush and floss your teeth daily . The person posting this does not understand the bacteria present in your mouth or that calculous can be sub -below the gum line . If you have tarter build up like in the picture chances are you also have periodontal disease and need a cleaning below the gum line . Not treating this can lead to chronic health issues . I have seen extremely white teeth that an exray showed deep decay . Please see a dentist , go to a dental school , call around and see if you can make payments .

STAY AWAY FROM LISTERINE AND ALL THOSE OTHER terrible mouthwashes full of alcohol, chemicals, and all sorts of carcinogens and crap. Flouride (other than the organic form found in soil etc.) is another highly controversial topic and I would highly advise to stay away from it as well. But if you want to keep using fluoride then go ahead but you can at least get a way better mouthwash than complete and utter trash like listerine and all those other popular trashy ones.
The truth is, the dentists we spoke to all agreed that how you brush is more important than what you brush with. Proper brushing technique (and flossing) are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. So it’s certainly possible to clean your teeth effectively with a manual toothbrush, and if you and your dentist are happy with these results, there’s probably no need to switch. But if your pearly whites have room to improve, an electric toothbrush’s oscillating or vibrating battery-powered bristles make it easier to maintain good technique to remove even more plaque.
Everyone develops plaque because bacteria are constantly growing in our mouths, so it is not easy to see. Plaque that is not removed from around the gum line can cause inflammation and irritation to the gums around your teeth.
There may well be one better suited to you, which you can decide upon based on the information provided below. We explain all the different Philips Sonicare Sonic brush heads in detail on this page and make it easier for you to understand which brush head to opt for.
You mention the 4100, which seems to be priced (on the Sonicare website) more along the lines of the Sonicare 2 and 3. Sonicare has a history of producing toothbrushes aimed at specific lower-end price points and we’re not so sure those are the right brushes for us. We’ll have more to say in a week or two.

In addition, some electric toothbrushes, like the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean, offer more than one way of charging. One is through the easy use of a USB, and the other through a standard charging station. The convenience of charging may not be a big deal to everyone, but it is a diverse functionality nevertheless.
You touched on the issue of sensitivity, but not gum disease. I’ve had periodontitis for years, but it’s gotten much worse. I can’t afford to see a dentist anymore, so an electric toothbrush has become even more critical. I started using the flossing head, but it’s made matters worse. I have to use Peroxyl because my gums are so raw.
Hi, thank you very much for this review. The web is full of chaos, because comments and reviews are not reasonable or someone paid for lots of them among the genuine ones. I appreciate your review very much.
There are certainly times buying a new toothbrush is the best option. But if your toothbrush ends up in a place it shouldn’t have been or if you get sick right after you replace yours, you can save a little cash and disinfect your toothbrush.
In short, you get the brush head, these work very well! Only less money. I would recommend these for the compatible Sonicare toothbrush. Thanks to this, I don’t have to buy expensive official brush head products anymore.
As examples, people seem to complain that this brush’s mechanism is noisy and less refined than the higher-end models. And some commenters on this page have complain that they consider this brush under powered (they don’t get the same “clean” as with more expensive Sonicares).
Maybe he/she is from Alabama. I know a guy who visited there once and said his neighbor was a flat-earther and believed there was only 10 million people in the world and that the world is overpopulated.
This page does accomplish that goal, using those sources. And while performing our comparison process the information we collected allowed us to form a distinct opinion about which features are important to have versus those that seem to offer just limited value.
With a contoured profile to fit your child’s teeth, the standard sized heads are most suited to children aged 7+whilst the smaller compact option are best suited to kids aged 4+. Soft bristles for a gentle cleaning experience helps encourage children to brush for longer and assists in education of the importance of regular cleaning.
I’ve used this for years as an alternative to commercial and toxic cleaners. While many of these commercials cleaners kill more germs than the natural ones, you are left with the after effects of their toxins. That is not something I want in my home.
More attention should have been given to the fact that none of these toothbrushes has user-replaceable batteries. The planned obsolescence implied by this design is unacceptable; manufacturers need strong pressure to make it possible to replace the batteries in these things to justify the price!
Brush regularly, twice a day for 2 minutes a time. A 30-second scrub twice a day won’t remove plaque or prevent tartar. Use a brush with soft bristles that is small enough to fit into your mouth. Be sure to include the hard-to-reach surfaces behind your teeth and on your rear molars.
We tested this particular model by switching between the five available modes. It is likely that the battery could last a bit longer if you only use the daily clean mode. Other available modes include gum care, sensitive, whitening, and pro-clean.
Essential oils, found in Listerine mouthwash, contains eucalyptol, menthol, thymol, and methyl salicylate. CPC containing mouthwash contains cetyl pyridinium chloride, found in brands such as Colgate Plax, Crest Pro Health, Oral B Pro Health Rinse. In a meta-analyses completed in 2016, EO and CPC mouthrinses were compared and it was found that plaque and gingivitis levels were lower with EO mouthrinse when used as an adjunct to mechanical plaque removal (toothbrushing and interdental cleaning).[49]
Quit being such a know-it-all. Not every one can afford to go to a dentist or even have dental insurance for that matter. If it even helps a little bit, then it’s better for them to try it than to let their teeth and gums go to pot. Just my opinion and probably many others.
All the big names in electric toothbrushes sell a variety of brush heads that work with their brushes. Along with standard brush heads, you’ll find brush heads for sensitive teeth, orthodontic work, extra whitening, extra plaque removal, and many others.
I also bought an UltraFlosser (scouting sales) and now I have the DiamondClean, which adds interactive coaching. I admit to skiving off two minute brushing now and then for a swish and a promise. I think the app and coach will be useful to encourage me to be diligent. It also asks did you floss? Ok. You can see if you did nor not and how often.

Dental plaque is difficult to see unless it’s stained. You can stain plaque by chewing red “disclosing tablets,” found at grocery stores and drug stores, or by using a cotton swab to smear green food coloring on your teeth. The red or green color left on the teeth will show you where there is still plaque—and where you have to brush again to remove it.
This is not a pleasant method for removing plaque, but it is natural and guaranteed not to harm teeth. It will taste pretty unpleasant, but it is effective. Take a solution consisting of two tablespoons of vinegar, one tablespoon of salt, and four ounces of water. Now, gargle with this vinegar solution. Rinse and repeat every 2-3 days for maximum value.
Philips Sonicare is the number one brand used and recommended by U.S. dental professionals. Recognized as a leader in oral health care since 1992, Philips Sonicare products are backed by more than 140 publications representing clinical and laboratory studies conducted at more than 40 universities and research institutes worldwide.

The more bells and whistles your toothbrush has, the more expensive it will be, so it’s important to think about what features you’ll actually use. Sure, gum massaging modes and phone apps sound appealing, but if you’re not going to use these features daily you shouldn’t have to pay for them. We asked our experts which features were essential for improving brushing technique and which might be useful but not necessary. They narrowed it down to the following options:
Give it lots of fresh air. Store your toothbrush in an open-air holder, not in a dirty cup, drawer or travel case. That can promote the growth of mold or bacteria that isn’t natural to your mouth, leading to mouth diseases like gingivitis. “If you have any question about the effectiveness of your toothbrush, just get a new one,” advises Dr. Kahn.

Both plaque and tartar can form above and below the gum line. It takes a dentist or dental hygienist to remove tartar from anywhere in the mouth and to remove plaque from below the gum line. And regular, professional cleanings — as often as your dentist recommends — will help make your dental care at home more effective.
Your mouth is the only part of your body that doesn’t have a natural mechanism for shedding its surface. This makes it a perfect hangout for bacteria, and lots of it. As you read this, a whopping 600 species of bacteria are lurking in your mouth, many of them clinging to the surface of your teeth [source: Science Daily]. And you’re in charge of making sure they don’t stay there.
[This is really pretty amazing. At 1/8 of an inch, via a non-contact phenomenon, over 1/2 of the dental plaque was removed after just 5 seconds. And although the study didn’t mention it, you’d have to assume that there is at least some level of effect at distances that are even further.]
These are great replacement toothbrush head for my Sonicare brush handle. I was using the oem brush head from sonicare for the past 2 years until I realized that there were cheaper alternatives online. I decided to give these a try and they function the exact same as the sonicare ones.Out of the box, the brush heads come with all the colored rings and brush head covers like the real ones do.
Another option that not all sellers and manufacturers like to give is a “money back guarantee”. In case they do offer it, make sure it is at least 1 month after purchase. Also, make sure the shipping and delivery dates are reasonable. You do not want to receive your toothbrush on the 30th day and not have time to claim your money back, in case it does not work or it is not up to your standards.
My current sonicare died and I was very confused about the differences between the many, many models. Your excellent review helped me make up my mind as to a replacement. After perusing ebay (be careful about “used!”) I’ve ordered a replacement that was a good bit less expensive than the price quoted in your article. Thanks again!

Capable of removing up to 6 times more plaque than a manual toothbrush after 4 weeks use, the densely-packed, and high-quality tufts of bristles found on ProResults Gum Health brush heads help to effectively remove plaque and improve gum health.
Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth not only enable you to look and feel good, they make it possible to eat and speak properly. Good oral health is important to your overall well-being.
To become a dental hygienist in the US one must attend a college or university that is approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination. There are several degrees one may receive. An associate degree after attending community college is the most common and only takes two years to obtain. After doing so, one may work in a dental office. There is also the option of receiving a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree if one plans to work in an educational institute either for teaching or research.

For those who have sensitive teeth, we recommend the Oral-B 1000. Unlike its sonic counterparts, the Oral-B 1000 provides around 8,000 strokes per minute, meaning you won’t feel as much of a tickling sensation on your teeth. This sensation can be very uncomfortable to some, which makes the Oral-B an excellent choice. The Oral-B 1000’s bare-bones approach to features allows you to just focus on improving your dental care. In addition to our must-have two-minute timer, this $30 pick simply offers a quad-pacer to ensure an even brush for all your teeth. We like this minimal approach, because it shifts your attention to what matters most: proper brushing technique. The Oral-B 1000 is also compatible with a variety of different brushing heads for your personal comfort needs.
Brushing modes: a) Full-power mode is stated to be 25% faster than a Sonicare, which should place it in the 38,750 brush strokes per minute range. We don’t see this as a giant advantage over a Sonicare (31,000 brush strokes/min.)   b) This brush also has a reduced-power “sensitive” mode.
Use your eyes to protect your teeth. “When you can visually see discoloration, buildup or matting of the bristles, it’s time to change the toothbrush,” says Dr. Kahn. “It should look clean and straight.” Rinse well to dislodge any chunks of residual toothpaste.
Hi Dental Staff – I wanted to reply to your message as I have now tried out the other models after initially getting a 2 Series. The 2 Series was nice, but I got the feeling it was not the full experience.
In my experience they are just as bad in terms of reliability, I’ve bought five of these 1000 series brushes in the last four years. That said, I still feel like they’re the best toothbrush out there for the money. Without user replaceable batteries, these things just inevitably die.

Having up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute, this model is slower than the diamond clean. But, do not fool yourself. If you have never used an ultrasonic toothbrush before, you will feel the vigorous power of this elegantly designed teeth cleaning gadget. Despite being slower, the 2 Series Sonicare is also considerably cheaper and it works wonders for removing plaque and eliminating destructive bacteria in your mouth.
Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection caused by bacteria under the gum tissue that begin to destroy the gums and bone. Teeth become loose, chewing becomes difficult, and teeth may have to be extracted. Gum disease may also be related to damage elsewhere in the body; recent studies point to associations between oral infections and diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and preterm, low-weight births. Research is underway to further examine these connections.
Yes I do, and I laid them out already: it’s a biased set of studies, performed by a biased panel, deliberately constrained to a extremely confined audience of one “special issue” of one publication. The methods and procedures are laid out by the revelation of the authors, their backers, and the publication. It makes the entire analysis suspect. You ARE taking their data at their word, you know.
Dental hygiene refers to the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease. Dental hygiene and oral health are often taken for granted but are essential parts of our everyday lives.
full disclosure: I switched from a Sonicare DiamondClean to the recommended brush in this article, but it (the Pro 1000) gums up around the brush head attachment and becomes really gross and hard to clean. I also get this weird white filmy buildup around the top of it that disappears when wet and then reappears. I thought it was toothpaste but the only thing that cleaned it off was Clorox wipes. I’m considering switching back to my DiamondClean as a result.
Being equipped with a NiMH battery, the overall life expectancy of this toothbrush is over 2 years. In case it breaks down within that period of time, Philips will replace it. When we tested this model with its battery fully charged, it lasted 15 days. We used it twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. On the 15th day, the battery died during the evening brush. It still performed quite alright during the morning brushing activity.
!! This is an important point because despite what type your brush came with originally, you can switch to any other (style or size) head. That makes for a lot of options. (More information about brush heads.)
The ProResults brush heads have angled, radial trimmed bristles that are 10% wider angle than typical brush heads and are designed to squeeze around teeth better. They have standard and compact sizes.
This article approached the topic exactly as I would have and was so helpful! I had started to get confused about the subtle differences between models I was considering; your summary and all the related info was just the ticket. Thanks for taking the time to create it–a very valuable service.
Tooth decay (cavities) is a common problem for people of all ages. For children, untreated cavities can cause pain, absence from school, difficulty concentrating on learning, and poor appearance, all problems that greatly affect quality of life and ability to succeed. Children from lower income families often do not receive timely treatment for tooth decay and are more likely to suffer from these problems. Tooth decay also is a problem for many adults. Adults of some racial and ethnic groups experience more untreated decay.
A 2014 study published in the International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences showed that guava leaf extract causes a reduction in the adhesion of early plaque. It has excellent antibacterial and biofilm-inhibition activity against Streptococcus mutans that cause dental plaque.
The Sonicare 3 Series also has the QuadPacer feature and the easy-start feature. The former is an automatic mode that vibrates every 30 seconds to remind you to move the brush from one set of teeth to the next. It does that 4 times per brushing. The easy-start is a mode that progressively increases the intensity of the brushing over the next 14 or so days. This allows users to slowly get to 31,000 brush strokes per minute.
“We may find that we need to carefully balance the supplementation with vitamin D3 and omega-3 fatty acids, depending on each patient in order to help promote efficient clearing of amyloid-beta,” says Fiala.
Fun Features: KidTimer – Increases brushing time slowly over 90 days, building towards the dentist recommended 2 minutes, KidPacer – Fun sounds encourage kids to brush the front and back of both upper and lower teeth
If disease is present, secondary prevention may be necessary, the cause of disease should be identified and noted, and the relevant professional movement should be identified and patient instruction for dental plaque control established in an attempt to reinstate a healthy oral condition. Therefore, mechanical and chemical plaque control are involved in this phase. This may be via;
Every state requires dental hygienists to be licensed; requirements vary by state. In most states, a degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and passing grades on written and clinical examinations are required for licensure. To maintain licensure, hygienists must complete continuing education requirements. For specific requirements, contact your state’s Board of Dental Examiners.
We will promote the evolution of dental hygiene by exploring and implementing new methods and ideas. Mindfulness, awareness and presence practices are integrated for the development of emotional intelligence and the cultivation of compassionate, empathetic and professional behavior.
Many higher priced electric toothbrushes offer a variety of extras, such as apps to track your brushing activity, motion sensors, facial recognition, and colorful lights. As fun as these features are, they are not essential and add to the price of the toothbrush.
I have an ancient and long-ago discontinued Oral B Sonic Care Complete brush that I refuse to give up. I have duct tape on the band and have to pay a fortune for the proprietary brush heads on Amazon but honestly, no matter what other Oral B brush I buy, nothing compares to the old tried and true. So many new ones make my head vibrate from the inside out or the brush heads are wrong shape for my mouth. I really hate when any company discontinues a good thing.
The UV cleaners will do most of the work for you in ensuring that harmful microorganisms are terminated. However, to give them a chance of working to their best, there are a few things you can do to help them out. These things are even more important if you don’t UV treat your brush.
Despite the lower battery life, this is still one of the best go-to budget electric toothbrushes currently available. Philips has clearly improved on the previous model by adding their favorite QuadPacer, SmarTimer, and EasyStart modes.
Unlike dental assistants, whose job duties must generally be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, dental hygienists perform much of their work independently, with only general supervision from a licensed dentist.

If you have blood in your toothpaste after brushing, you may have early symptoms of gingivitis. Left untreated, it can develop into gum disease and may even have wider health implications. Caught early, gingivitis is easy to treat and prevent with your daily routine.

If plaque is left on a subgingival (under the gum) surface undisturbed, not only is there an increased risk of tooth decay, but it will also go on to irritate the gums and make them appear red and swollen[1] Some bleeding may be noticed during tooth brushing or flossing. These are the signs of inflammation which indicate poor gum health (gingivitis).[12][1]
All contemporary high-end electric toothbrushes come standard with rechargeable batteries that are charged using inductive charging. Such toothbrushes are not new to the market, however, they have been subjected to continuous improvement based on scientific research. Or, so do large manufacturers want us to believe.
Once tartar has formed, only a dental professional will be able to remove it from your teeth. So, visit your dentist every 6 months to remove any plaque and tartar that might have formed and to prevent further problems.
Ever wondered how much toothpaste you’re actually supposed to squeeze out? Our dentists explained that a pea-sized amount of toothpaste is all you need for a healthy brush and to prevent dental damage. But don’t rinse afterwards. Rinsing after brushing actually dilutes or washes away the fluoride from toothpaste that’s helping to prevent tooth decay. Instead of rinsing, dental experts recommend that you simply spit out any remaining toothpaste after brushing.

mmm…What about the https://www.30secondsmile.com electric toothbrush? I understand it it was very successful in some clinical trials: https://www.omicsonline.org/open-access/the-hydrabrush30-second-smile-tooth-brush-improving-gingivalhealth-in-less-time-a-randomized-clinical-trial-2332-0702-1000177.php?aid=52279
Dental hygiene programs are commonly found in community colleges, technical schools, and universities. In 2017, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, part of the American Dental Association, accredited more than 300 dental hygiene programs.
We agree. We find it hard to believe that the “knock off” brushes adhere to the same stringent standards of the Sonicare brush heads (proper bristle stiffness/flexibility, rounded bristle ends, etc…).
Dental hygienists can receive their necessary education with either a two-year associate degree or a four-year bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. Each degree will yield the clinical training necessary to work in the field; however, a bachelor’s degree program will provide more in-depth studies and practice in the field.
Small question from someone who doesn’t live in the US: Does the Oral-B Deep Sweep 1000 mentioned in the article happen to be called the Oral-B TriZone 600 outside of the US? I’ve tried searching for the Deep Sweep, but I can’t seem to find it, and this one (http://oralb.co.uk/en-GB/productdetail/oral-b-trizone-600-rechargeable-toothbrush/) appears to be the one most similar to the Deep Sweep 1000. It might be the TriZone 2000 (http://oralb.co.uk/en-GB/productdetail/oral-b-trizone-2000-rechargeable-toothbrush/), but the product manual of that one says that is has the ‘gums cleaning mode’ shenanigans, so I don’t think so. That same product manual also mentions a TriZone 1000 model, but I don’t see that mentioned anywhere else.
Aura Clean offers two cleaning modes: the recommended Super Clean, and Sensitive Clean, for those with sensitive gums and teeth. To ensure you have the most thorough and complete cleaning experience, we’ve created a map of your mouth (which can be found in the included instruction manual) that splits it into quadrants. Every 30 seconds, Aura Clean briefly pauses so that you know it’s time to move onto the next quadrant. A timed cleaning where the brush actually does the work for you, tells you when to move on, and shuts off when you’re done. It’s truly foolproof!
Along with technical know-how, dental hygienists should have excellent communication skills. “The client’s head is in their lap basically,” Swanson Jaecks says. “They should know how to read a client and relate to a client.” She also says good hand-eye coordination is a must, as are critical-thinking skills, since dental hygienists are on the front lines of assessing a client’s oral health.
We get your point about frailty but will also point out that you can break your Series 2 and replace it again for about the same cost as one HealthyWhite. And in an era of planned obsolescence (including the situation where battery failure = toothbrush death), investing as little as possible has advantages.
1. Allow for the AC adapter to fit flat against the wall as opposed to sticking straight out. It looks awkward permanently sticking out of a bathroom outlet. I wound up purchasing and installing an outlet with USB ports so I can skip the adapter and plug the charger directly through the USB port. It is a little less conspicuous.
Apply tomatoes and strawberries to your teeth. Tomatoes and strawberries, like oranges, are rich in vitamin C. Cut them open and rub the juice on the surface of the teeth, leaving it to sit for about five minutes. Do not use strawberries or tomatoes or apples or oranges or any other plaque removing foods if you’re allergic to them. Rinse out your mouth with a solution of baking soda dissolved in water.[7]
Dual Head – refers to electric toothbrushes that have incorporated the rotating function, as well as the side-to-side movement function. As you can see in the image below, each head is responsible for a different motion. This design is advertised as more efficient in terms of plaque removal. However, users have complained that the size of the head makes cleaning more difficult.
No, it’s not. Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate and while baking powder contains some sodium bicarbonate, it also contains cream of tartar and some type of starch. They are both used as leavening agents. Hope this helps.
DiamondClean – The DiamondClean Sonicare toothbrush head is one of the most popular brush heads in the Sonicare range. It is able to remove up to 7 times more plaque than you would be able to clean using a standard manual toothbrush. This brush head is so effective at removing plaque and stains that within just 1 week of beginning to use this brush head, you can expect to have removed 100% of the stained from your teeth. There are no other brush heads on the market today that can offer you such great results when it comes to cleaning your teeth for a whiter smile.
High school students interested in becoming dental hygienists should take courses in biology, chemistry, and math. Most dental hygiene programs also require applicants to complete prerequisites, which often include college-level courses. Specific requirements vary by school.
The toothbrush has a unique way of charging. It comes with a glass and a multi-voltage base. When you place the glass on the base, you can just throw your brush inside the glass and it will start charging using conduction technology.
Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice.
We’d take that as evidence that consumers generally didn’t find it to be an especially important feature or good value. We had always stated on our pages that we saw no purpose for it. We based our opinion on that of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) whose website states that toothbrush sterilization holds little benefit.
It is easy to think that you need specialist brushes and they do exist.  However with a Sonicare electric toothbrush you can use any of the brush heads safely with braces, you do not need a special brush head.
Dr. McConnell and Casper agree that electric toothbrushes are better instruments, in large part because they’re less “technique-sensitive” than manual brushes. Electric toothbrushes give more consistent results because they clean teeth in a more consistent manner.
There are no surprises here; brushing is the number one treatment for plaque prevention. If you brush properly after every meal (wait half an hour after eating), you can significantly reduce your chance of developing unsightly tartar patches. You need to be brushing for three minutes, with an even amount of pressure, and covering every part of your mouth.
My head can’t stand the high-pitched tone from the sonic toothbrushes. I used a Philips sonic toothbrush for 6 months as part of a dental trial. The toothbrush itself was not being tested, the investigators wanted everyone using the same brush. I assumed I would get used to the sonic whine after a few days, but never did. Have happily used an electric Oral-B now for over 10 years (yes, it has lasted that long!) with great results.
Oral-B Pro-Health All-In-One toothbrush has been clinically proven to remove more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush with its CrissCross® bristles, which are angled at 16° to attack plaque from the right angle.
We switched the whole family from manual to the Sonicare brushes maybe a year ago and saw a pretty radical improvement in gum health. It’s impossible to tell how much of that came from the switch to electric and how much might be attributable to the type, but the subjective feeling of cleanliness with the Sonicare was remarkably different from other electrics I’ve tried in the past.
I’m in 8th grade and I know its very early to be choosing my career but I thought being a hygienist would be really fun and not too much college plus I love going to get my teeth cleaned. it seems like I would have enough to support myself and later in life a family and like I said I know its real early to figure out but I’m wondering if is a good choice or not?
This entire page is about trying to identify the cheapest Sonicare that can meet the brusher’s needs, in part precisely for the reason you state. In todays world of lowest-possible-cost construction and plannned obsolescence, spending hundreds of dollars for an electric toothbrush seems a questionable act (no matter the brand). And at least with a cheaper brush there’s a chance you can replace it and still stay within the same budget.
The American Dental Association’s (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) serves as the sole accrediting body for dental hygiene programs in the United States. There are currently 330 CODA-accredited dental hygiene programs throughout the country.
It has Clean mode (the one we feel is most important to have), and has the added flexibility of 3 brushing “intensities” (high intensity being the one we would use). It seems likely that the 3 Series is intended to replace the EasyClean in the Sonicare line up.
2005 – PA 161 Dental hygienist: hygienists with grantee status can work in a public or nonprofit environment, a school or nursing home that administers dental care to a low-income population. Dentists collaborating with dental hygienists do not need to be present to authorize or administer treatment. However, dental hygienists must have the availability to communicate with a dentist in order to review patient records and establish emergency protocols. Hygienists need to apply to the state department of community health for grantee status.[43]
thank you for the extremely detailed review and information. i actually purchased the kids model for myself – it actually looks quite good without the stickers and comes at a low enough price for the 30k vibration.
Dental hygienists use many types of tools to do their job. They clean and polish teeth with hand, power, and ultrasonic tools. In some cases, they use lasers. Hygienists remove stains with an air-polishing device, which sprays a combination of air, water, and baking soda. They polish teeth with a powered tool that works like an automatic toothbrush. Hygienists use x-ray machines to take pictures to check for tooth or jaw problems. Some states allow hygienists with additional training, sometimes called dental therapists, to work with an expanded scope of practice.
“One of the best out there. Highly comparable to the Sonicare Series 2. Compared to its higher-end siblings, like the 3000 or 7000, the 1000 Pro lacks fancier features like different speed modes, pressure sensor, and Bluetooth connectivity. However, if you don’t have sensitive gums, you probably do not need the pressure sensor, and if you do not obsess about logging your brushing performance in an app, then you can do without Bluetooth connectivity as well. For basic effective cleaning, this one does the job. It gives 20,000 rotations per minute. Two minutes of brushing with this leaves you with a fresh-feeling mouth. Definitely a good investment.”
It create a breeding ground for the oral bacteria that feed on sugars from the food you eat. Plus, it forms acid during this process that breaks down the tooth enamel, leading to dental cavities. Bacteria also produce toxins causing various periodontal (gum) problems.
No ordinary brush head though is this.  Thanks to a built in chip, when you fit onto a compatible brush handle, the microchip communicates with the brush handle to launch the optimum cleaning mode and intensity level for the most effective plaque removal experience.
When you first wear braces you will likely be told the importance of cleaning effectively around braces to avoid staining of when it comes to removal.  The natures of braces offers up lots of areas for small food particles to stick to.
Several weeks ago the base unit’s UV light ceased working. While the base unit was still charging the handle just fine, it was no longer cleaning it. I received a new replacement only after sending my existing unit back. I would have liked to have continued using the original unit while I waited for the new one to arrive, but that was a minor inconvenience.

California dental hygienists, on the other hand, are permitted to perform all of the above job duties under the general supervision of a licensed dentist, with the exception of the administration of local anesthesia, the administration of nitrous oxide, and soft tissue curettage, which must be performed under direct supervision.
Brushing modes: Different brushing modes — like teeth whitening, gum massaging, and pro-cleaning — change the number of oscillations or vibrations per minute. However, we couldn’t find concrete evidence that these different modes were doing what they promised. In contrast, studies show that simply brushing for two minutes with proper technique, using effective toothpaste, and flossing will live up to the promise of better dental health.
The one thing I did notice is that the new unit came with brush heads that do not fit flush against the base of the handle. This once again allows water to seep inside the brush head and sit against the metal tip. I would have thought Tao by now would have fixed this issue with new brush heads. I know the newer replacement heads I bought earlier in the year had solved this, but I guess the replacement units still have the original heads. I will need to remove the head after every couple of uses to swab out the inside of the brush head and wipe down the metal tip to keep it from corroding the metal.

If you are looking for a toothbrush under $40, the Essence+ might be just right for you. Philips has designed this lower-tech model as a transitional toothbrush. Meaning, if you are ready to make the switch from manual to electric, but you are not ready to spend $200, this model will suit your needs.
Standing at bed and bath because my old sonicare died and so did he one my friend gave me so I could use up my old brush heads and I was overwhelmed by too many choices!! You helped me make up my mind so quickly and I really appreciate it. Healthy white for me!!!
You can even make your own mouthwash: You will need one-half cup baking soda, one cup water, 10 drops essential lemon oil, 4 teaspoons vegetable glycerin, and 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel. Mix all the ingredients and store in a bottle; use once or twice a day for a combination of nice-smelling breath and plaque removal.
Toothbrushes for kids have soft bristles and tend to get frayed fast. Check if the bristles are bent or changed at all from their normal shape. If they are, change the toothbrush. Usually kids require a new toothbrush after a month and a half.
Please do NOT believe what you read!!! I work at a dental office as an assistant and have for 17 years, if your teeth look like this you MUST seek professional help to clean your teeth and have good overall health for your body. You can NOT take care of this on your own.
Although it’s not necessary to work as a dental hygienist, a graduate degree in the field can propel you into careers in education, leadership, advocacy and administration. Dental hygienists with advanced dental hygienist schooling often go on to work as:
Many children and adults still go without simple measures that have been proven effective in preventing oral diseases and reducing dental care costs. For example, fluoride prevents tooth decay, and the most cost-effective way to deliver the benefits of fluoride to all residents of a community is through water fluoridation; that is, adjusting the fluoride in the public water supply to the appropriate level for decay prevention. Dental sealants, plastic coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where most decay occurs, are another safe, effective way to prevent cavities. However, only about one-third of children aged 6–19 years have sealants. Although children from lower income families are almost twice as likely to have decay as those from higher income families, they are only half as likely to have sealants.
Did you see the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”? The father of the bride was always running around with a bottle of windex and using it for everything. Well, I’m like that with vinegar. I keep some in a spray bottle and use it for disinfecting and cleaning lots of things. I also spritz some vinegar on my toothbrush every night. But I’ve been wondering about the acidity… you’re not supposed to brush your teeth right away after eating or drinking something acidic because the acid softens the enamel on your teeth. So what about spraying my toothbrush with vinegar, would the acidity be neutralized after it dries overnight?
Unlike dental assistants, whose job duties must generally be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, dental hygienists perform much of their work independently, with only general supervision from a licensed dentist.
Yes, it’s definitely a water flosser. Oral B and Sonicare may be the best brands when it comes to electric toothbrushes, but for oral irrigators there’s Waterpik. I have their Ultra model, which is top rated in many case studies.
Priced under $100, the Sensonic comes with 3 brush heads and a travel case. Considering that it also has the QuadPacer and EasyStart modes, together with a 2-speed setting, this Waterpik electric toothbrush is a bargain.
$Maintaining good oral health is easy with the Philips Sonicare compatible Diamond Clean, Flexcare, Easy Clean replacement Electric Toothbrush Brush Heads. Highest-quality available, individually seal…
Since one of our core comparison criteria is not to include brushes that featured unneeded options, we’ll go ahead and scratch the FlexCare Platinum Connected model that has the UV Sanitizer off our list. But that still leaves us with 17 other Sonicares to choose from.
Don’t overlook the fact that the vast majority of cleaning accomplished by any type of electric is due to bristle-to-tooth contact. The effectiveness of non-contact brushing comes in at a very distant 2nd.
At about 4.5 ounces, the Philips Sonicare 2 is easy to use and comfortable to hold. It arrived with a bit of a charge, but the manufacturer still recommends an overnight charge before use. Fully charged, it will run for two weeks. As with most of its rivals, its warranty lasts two years. While there are many brush heads in the Philips range, only one comes with the Sonicare 2. Blue “reminder bristles” change to white as they wear down. This color change serves as a reminder to replace the head, and we think it’s an excellent feature.
