Best Sonicare Toothbrush For Your Money Offer

This is an all-round great tip, not just one for keeping your teeth healthy. Whether you like them or not, vegetables are a super ingredient. They are great for physical health and the teeth are no exception. Start munching on apples, celery sticks, carrots, and peppers to get your teeth looking strong and healthy in no time.
California dental hygienists, on the other hand, are permitted to perform all of the above job duties under the general supervision of a licensed dentist, with the exception of the administration of local anesthesia, the administration of nitrous oxide, and soft tissue curettage, which must be performed under direct supervision.
For the purpose of our reviews, we have considered the average toothbrush user who is motivated enough to brush his or her teeth twice a day for two minutes. Also, check out our top toothbrushes for people with braces, where we use slightly different criteria to define “best”.
Im about to start Dental Hygienist school. But i saw some from saying that DH is not a good idea, i wont find a job, i will have to depend of the dentist for everything, i will have to work in different places to get hours working. im worried.
The three brush heads below were introduced alongside the DiamondClean Smart. Whilst they fit and work on other models, the included smart chip that automatically selects the optimal cleaning mode works only with the DiamondClean Smart because it has BrushSync mode pairing. When Sonicare introduces more brushes with BrushSync pairing mode, they will also be compatible with those brushes.
!! This is an important point because despite what type your brush came with originally, you can switch to any other (style or size) head. That makes for a lot of options. (More information about brush heads.)

How an electric toothbrush feels in your hand and mouth is highly subjective, but each manufacturer strives for the most ergonomic design. We gave each toothbrush a test run and judged them on ease of use, comfort, and general “feel.”
Your are purchasing Sonicare original standard E-Series heads. Fits All 5000, 5300, 5500, 5750, 5350, 5800, 7000 And All 9000 Series Sonicare Toothbrush Handles. I Get A Deal From Them So I’m Able To …
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Dental Hygiene offers a more thorough introduction to the field of dental science by including two years of clinical experience into its curriculum. The clinical component of the degree will train students in oral health assessments, oral disease examination, oral cancer screening procedures and filling and periodontal dressing removal and placement. Some B.S. programs may cover topics such as the administration of anesthetics and dental filling material placement. Some courses address dental science theory and may include:
Hi Lisa! Yes, you can soak it in there for a while. I wouldn’t use it as a resting place for the toothbrush. I guess you could if you rinsed really thoroughly before using. I just wouldn’t want any residual vinegar on the toothpaste that I needed to brush with. Good luck!
The Philips Sonicare 2 Series is our top pick for offering an effective clean without feeling gimmicky. As a sonic toothbrush, its brushing head vibrates rapidly to help remove plaque. Our testers reported that this style caused the least amount of irritation to their gums when compared to oscillating models from brands like Oral-B. It has a two-minute timer, divided into four 30-second segments, to ensure you brush long enough to effectively clean your teeth and gums but not so long that you damage them. At $40, the Sonicare 2 is a solid investment in improving your dental health.
less than a month ago two top of field dentists and periodontics were on radio after a professional conference. Now after for years saying floss , floss, floss, they say the research has shown flossing either has no benefit or the benefit is negligible. Today on BBC the dentists were saying that dental check of every 6 months is excessive! basically so called science is not exact in anything. All the things which were good six months ago, today may proven are not good for us!
I really like this system- seems to clean my teeth better than other brushes- also like the pause that lets you know you have cleaned one side long enough- this helps in not doing a sloppy job of cleaning. I have tried several other power toothbrushes and this is my favorite. I would say definitely worth the price. And this is an independent review – no samples for me!!
Product “X” is designed to sanitize manual toothbrushes (To “sanitize” normally means that bacteria are reduced by 99.9 percent. For example, if one million bacteria are present at the outset, 1000 bacteria remain after a 99.9 percent reduction. “Sterilized”, on the other hand, indicates that all living organisms have been destroyed or inactivated. No commercially-available toothbrush cleaning products have been shown to sterilize toothbrushes);
SmartTimer – This timer turns the toothbrush off after 2 minutes of usage. It can be annoying, but then again, all you need to do to continue is press the start button on the handle. This feature is mostly renowned because it motivates people to brush for the entire 2 minutes. We, however, considered it because it can also remind users when it’s time to stop. Therefore, avoiding over-brushing that can cause gum swallowing and bleeding.
Sonicare brushing features – An outline of the various brushing modes different Sonicare models have, and what we think of each of them. It explains the importance of having the 31,000 strokes-per-minute brushing action.
Self help is the best. I personally follow a dental routine of brushing and mouth wash, but twice a week use baking soda and have recently added hydrogen peroxide which I intend to use once a week. My dentist says he loves the state of my teeth and gum..my nephew who is a dentist is totally against polishing teeth and believes it will damage the teeth in the long run. of course those in the field throw their hands up in the sky but the proof of the pudding is in the pie! if those who have used Baking soda for years have perfectly healthy teeth, who are they to suggest it is harmful!
The oscillating-rotating toothbrush is mostly developed by Oral-B. They have tested and perfected the design and technology over time. Currently, the idea of this type of toothbrush is to move slowly from tooth to tooth in order for more effective cleaning.
Lifespan – Much like anything else in life, and especially modern day technology, these devices also eventually seize to work. Battery life is the number one reason for electric toothbrush “deaths”. Regrettably, battery-powered toothbrushes are designed in such a way so their batteries cannot be replaced. So, when the battery fails, you will need to purchase a new one.
As you’ll see below there’s a giant price difference between the top and bottom-end Sonicares. And based on this single factor alone, it’s easy enough to anticipate that while some models may share similar features and specifications, they’re probably not really equals. (It’s been our experience that some Sonicare representatives are pretty quick to harp this point when you call with questions.)
Do not be worried that you need to use them all to target different areas of the mouth.  You can still have white teeth, healthy gums and reduced plaque by using the DiamondClean head.  Using the Sensitive brush head may improve your experience but will not mean that your teeth are more stained because it does not aggravate the tooth surface as much.
The Dazzlepro Advanced Sonic’s handle is a little large and unwieldy, a satiny plastic tapered toward the middle of the handle, and the charging base is hefty, but this brush does a reasonable approximation of the Sonicare brushes’ motion. The Dazzlepro brush has a separate “sensitive” cleaning mode. However, the company has a lower profile, and the warranty lasts only one year (compared with Sonicare and Oral-B’s two years), so if you need support you may be left wanting. This brush is currently unavailable on Amazon and Overstock.
Both Dr. McConnell and Casper say that sonic toothbrushes tend to work better because they’re similar to the microsonic scaler equipment used in a professional clinic. Microsonic scaler technology removes both the biofilm (goo) and calculus (hard deposits) on teeth.
The best Oral-B models – Our narrative outlining how to figure out which model makes the best choice for you. It covers Oral-b features, which of them we think are important to have, and which models seem to offer a reasonable manifestation of them.
I have one. I actually prefer the older Sonicare in that it seems to remove more food between the teeth (you need to floss anyway). It also came with the standard diamondhead brush and I actually prefer the compact heads so I will try attaching a Prohead Compact brush to it and see if I like it better.
Pour 1/2 cup or 120 ml of water into a glass. Next add 2 tablespoons or 30 ml of white vinegar and 2 tsp or 10 mg of baking soda and mix well. Place your toothbrush (es) into the glass and leave for 30 minutes.  Rinse well.
One Concern I have with the high end toothbrush is that the small metal point that you snap the toothbrush on after awhile comes out. It is impossible to re-insert and therefore I have to throw the entire unit out.
I am not a gadget kind of person. I like things to be practical and valuable so I don’t like bells and whistles necessary, especially when they will cost more and I won’t get a lot of use from them. So thank you for making it so straightforward to understand the options that are truly valuable. I’ve ordered my sonicare and am really looking forward to receiving it. Thanks so much for your help!!
These electric toothbrushes vibrate an astonishing 30,000+ times per minute. The high speed loosens and removes plaque, food bits, and bacteria from the surfaces of the teeth, between the teeth, and even slightly below the gum line. The speed also induces a fluid dynamic inside your mouth, which helps to remove bacteria even slightly beyond the tip of the toothbrush’s bristles. On the downside, some users don’t like the feel of the vibration, and others find sonic toothbrushes irritating to their gums.
Most brands, Philips included, have a 90 day grace period. Which means, you can still return or exchange the sonic toothbrush if you realize you have not made the right choice. We strongly advise that you take advantage of this warranty.
We also looked at reviews from popular American stores, such as Target and Walmart. These stores are good because they allow consumers to freely express their opinion and return merchandise if it is not up to their standards.
Correct teeth brushing remains essential to a good oral health. Unfortunately, many of us rush through this exercise in order to get it done. This way a lot of destructive bacteria remains and slowly causes the formation of plaque and eventually tooth decay.

Design and features: We asked our testers to try the features of their toothbrushes to see which actually encouraged better brushing technique and which were all hype. For instance, the different brushing modes on the Jim Ellis seemed to differ mostly in sound. Our testers for other toothbrushes agreed that differences in brushing modes felt negligible and unnecessary. Some offered features that our testers found helpful, like how the Philips Sonicare 2 Series automatically shuts off after the two-minute timer to prevent over-brushing. Oral-B models will pulse to let you know your time is up, but they don’t turn off. Which means, if you miss the vibration, you can accidentally over-brush and damage your teeth and gums.

Many children and adults still go without simple measures that have been proven effective in preventing oral diseases and reducing dental care costs. For example, fluoride prevents tooth decay, and the most cost-effective way to deliver the benefits of fluoride to all residents of a community is through water fluoridation; that is, adjusting the fluoride in the public water supply to the appropriate level for decay prevention. Dental sealants, plastic coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where most decay occurs, are another safe, effective way to prevent cavities. However, only about one-third of children aged 6–19 years have sealants. Although children from lower income families are almost twice as likely to have decay as those from higher income families, they are only half as likely to have sealants.

The powerful motor drives a high-frequency and high-amplitude brush movements to perform over 31,000 strokes per minute.  The result is the power fully extends from the brush handle all the way to the tip of the brush head.
This inclusion of this wonder spice should come as no surprise, because it has been used as a pain remedy for toothache for centuries. It is widely available in supermarkets, because it is a common ingredient in Indian cuisine. So, you should have no trouble finding cloves already ground and ready to use. Mix the ground spice with a little water, until it forms a paste. Apply this paste directly to the stained areas and leave to rest. Rinse thoroughly.

Back in March 2010, Consumer Reports performed its own tests for plaque removal and concluded, “[T]he two priciest brushes removed 75 percent or more of plaque in our tests, on average.” In the years following those tests, two of the top models have been discontinued and replaced by similar ones, and one has been recalled; as of May 2016, CR no longer tests toothbrushes at all. GHI’s recommendations don’t say much and do not explain whether expensive features are really necessary.
Why: The DiamondClean Smart has some handy sidekicks—its connected app and smart sensor suite. It keeps track of where you brush, where you miss, and where you need to pay more attention. It removes up to 100% more stains in 3 days,** removes up to 10x more plaque* and leaves gums up to 7x healthier in 2 weeks*.
Having shiny white teeth can be a real confidence boost and there are few nicer compliments that ‘you have a lovely smile’ or ‘your teeth look great’ and what if you can achieve this without having to undergo cosmetic dentistry.
You mention the 4100, which seems to be priced (on the Sonicare website) more along the lines of the Sonicare 2 and 3. Sonicare has a history of producing toothbrushes aimed at specific lower-end price points and we’re not so sure those are the right brushes for us. We’ll have more to say in a week or two.
This information was exactly what I was looking for and this site is probably the best product comparison website I have ever seen. Keep up the good work! I couldn’t find any affiliate links so that I could order through the site however…but maybe I missed them?
It is easy to think that you need specialist brushes and they do exist.  However with a Sonicare electric toothbrush you can use any of the brush heads safely with braces, you do not need a special brush head.

The Flexcare+ model is expensive, but it is really worth the (extra) money. It is rarely I am so happy with a product. The only negative things about it is that the charging time is little long, but on the other hand the time between the charging is around the 3 weeks claimed from Philips, which is excellent. The dropping in performance is not disturbing at all. You will notice a powerup after charging, but it runs very good until you need to charge it and the brushing experience is at an extremely high level all the time.
Use a mouthwash that targets plaque. Though plaque-busting mouthwashes are not effective enough to remove plaque all by themselves, when used as part of a teeth cleaning routine involving brushing and flossing, they can help to loosen plaque, while giving you minty-fresh breath in the process.

If an adult chooses to use this brush with either of its stock brush heads, they will find the For Kids Standard brush to be “smallish” (about the same size of the DiamondClean, which is one of the smaller adult brush heads). The For Kids Compact sized head in comparison would be significantly smaller. Both heads have softer bristles than their adult-sized counterparts.
Dental hygienists wear safety glasses, surgical masks, and gloves to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases. When taking x rays, they follow strict procedures to protect themselves and patients from radiation.
Nothing but frustration with Phillips USA that owns Sonicare. My product failed and at first Phillips said they would do nothing. Then they agreed to replace it, but sent me a computer battery instead. Then they sent 3 Sonicare AIrfloss. I had to go to the post office four times to return items they sent by mistake. My chats and calls to the company were disconnected. Promises were made then rescinded. In frustration I wrote the CEO about the hours of my time they wasted with their compounded mistakes. Mr Brent Shafer, the CEO waited weeks before they would respond and all they would do is of free couple brush heads – not appropriate in my book given the massive amount of time and frustration they caused me.
“We may find that we need to carefully balance the supplementation with vitamin D3 and omega-3 fatty acids, depending on each patient in order to help promote efficient clearing of amyloid-beta,” says Fiala.
Having up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute, this model is slower than the diamond clean. But, do not fool yourself. If you have never used an ultrasonic toothbrush before, you will feel the vigorous power of this elegantly designed teeth cleaning gadget. Despite being slower, the 2 Series Sonicare is also considerably cheaper and it works wonders for removing plaque and eliminating destructive bacteria in your mouth.
First, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with ½ teaspoon of salt into the cup. After you wet the toothbrush with warm water, dip it into the mixture. Scrub teeth with it and spit. Continue the same process for five minutes.
Hyposmia is a partial or complete loss of the sense of smell. It can be disturbing for the individual, but it can also be hazardous if they cannot detect, for example, a toxic gas. Causes include allergies and head injuries. It may be linked to diabetes and multiple sclerosis (MS). Treatment will depend on the cause.
This is a “kids” toothbrush. But for people who can overlook that fact, this is a way of getting a modern, full-fledged (31,000 brush-strokes-per-minute) Sonicare at a low price. It also makes a reasonable option for parents that might want to share a brush with their children. Or test out the use of an electric before moving on to getting their own.
QuadPacer – This is a cool timer that allows the user to split each tooth brushing activity into four. The mouth is divided into four separate quadrants of teeth, two on the lower side and two on the upper side. The QuadPacer signals the user every 30 seconds that it is time to move to the next quadrant of the mouth. This often prevents over-brushing. Divide and conquer!
Add to that the fact that most dental HMO’s require that dental offices do hygiene for “no copay” (HMO speak for “free”) hygiene becomes very difficult. A hygienist is expected to produce 3 times as much in billing as she gets paid. It is rather hard to do this with the waiting room packed with patients anxious to get their nocopy cleanings.
Dental assistants perform many tasks, ranging from providing patient care and taking x rays to recordkeeping and scheduling appointments. Their duties vary by state and by the dentists’ offices where they work.
So, I needed a new electric toothbrush and decided to order this one. I just ordered through the link to Amazon. Better price than posted from May. Now $33.99 and then an instant $7.00 coupon so I paid $26.99. Seems hard to beat that! Thanks wirecutter.

“Toothbrushes are as individual as automobiles. Everyone has a preference. I personally use a Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush,” says John Comisi, a dentist based in Ithaca, New York. “I like its small diameter toothbrush head, with a 2-minute timer. It comes with a very convenient travel case. Overall, it is probably the electronic toothbrush I recommend most.”
Early models consisted of disposable batteries because the technology was not advanced enough. Nowadays, rechargeable batteries are the standard. However, manufacturers are now competing to design longer lasting batteries.
not true for all areas. I live in a small town with lots of dental offices. the office I work at now we have hygienists working part time (24hr/week) and making $78,000/year. plus they get vacation time sick time holiday pay and yearly bonuses.
As testament of this, over the years we noticed that every Sonicare manual we’ve seen clearly states something similar to: “When the Sonicare is used in clinical studies, the default 2-minute Clean mode must be selected.”

There are six phases undertaken by dental professionals when undertaking periodontal therapy, which are as follows;[8]

According to the American Dental Association, no commercial products can sterilize a toothbrush and it’s not necessary. The ADA notes, “There is insufficient clinical evidence to support that bacterial growth on toothbrushes will lead to specific adverse oral or systemic health effects.”
We could not find any independent studies comparing toothbrush models or brands, and all the ones tested for the fluid dynamics aspect are Sonicare brushes, which are all 31,000 movements-per-minute brushes. Other brands have toothbrushes that move faster, slower, and at roughly the same speed as this. Though the fluid dynamics effect exists, remember that it’s secondary to actual bristles scrubbing your teeth and gums.
I find this very interesting. I have never had an electric toothbrush last more than a couple of years before the battery dies out (slowly at first, then completely). I am actually on this discussion board because the battery on the Oral B, bought approx. 2-3 years ago, now needs an every-other-day charge.
It’s probably also easy enough to state that having a more powerful brush is generally a plus. But related to this issue, we think that many people don’t understand how a Sonicare is meant to be used.
I don’t remember that movie but that’s pretty funny. I really don’t know about the acidity and your tooth enamel. I would think that the flavor would not be appealing, though, to brush with. Do you rinse it before brushing? I think if you’re rinsing that would be ok. I’ve also heard about acidic foods and enamel erosion so it might be not be the best idea to brush with a vinegar sprayed brush. That’s just my opinion if it’s something you’re concerned about.
An electric toothbrush certainly sounds appealing, but amid all the noise of manufacturer promises, how do you know which features are actually worthwhile? We asked our dental experts what a good electric toothbrush should offer. They all agreed that first and foremost, it should encourage you to improve your brushing habits. That means the best should include features, like a two-minute timer (more on this later), that have an actual impact on your brushing technique as well as easy maneuverability for those hard to reach areas.
There’s nothing complex about the Oral-B Pro Power Rechargeable 1000. It’s an oscillating model that comes with just one brush head. You could interchange it with the more complex heads from other Oral-B models (and the Pro 1000 has the same multi-angled “3D” action), but there’s only one mode, so we doubt you’d get the same degree of effectiveness. That said, a lot of people like this toothbrush for its simplicity. It’s light (4.25 ounces) with a slender, rubberized handle. In the lab, we felt it was just a small step up from the thin handle of a manual toothbrush, however.

Simple Sonicare Brush Heads Hx5300

We do hope that this page, complete with detailed explanations and brush head comparisons, will answer many of your questions and help you find the right brush head for you and your Sonicare brush. So let’s jump straight in.
The terms ‘plaque’ and ‘tartar’ are commonly used in an interchangeable fashion. And, as they are very similar, this is not usually a problem. They are different things, however; plaque is the actual bacteria that causes decay and cavities. The tartar on your teeth is an accumulation of stains, saliva, food, dirt, and grime. It makes it easier for the plaque to take a hold of teeth.

We switched the whole family from manual to the Sonicare brushes maybe a year ago and saw a pretty radical improvement in gum health. It’s impossible to tell how much of that came from the switch to electric and how much might be attributable to the type, but the subjective feeling of cleanliness with the Sonicare was remarkably different from other electrics I’ve tried in the past.
Figuring out how or organize school papers is an important task to tackle when your kids start school. Maintaining good oral health is important for overall health and confidence, and plaque is a common problem facing most adults, even if they brush their teeth regularly. Plaque turns to tartar when left alone; it’s formed by accumulated bacteria in your mouth. You may notice it as a hard yellowish layer, also called calculus, on your teeth. To Remove tartar it usually requires a visit to your dentist; however, you can remove it yourself at home using natural remedies.
Depending upon the level of education and experience achieved, dental hygienists can apply their skills and knowledge to other career activities such as teaching hygiene students in dental schools and dental hygiene education programs. Research, office management and business administration are other career options. Employment opportunities also may be available with companies that market dental-related materials and equipment.
That’s too funny. Literally last night I spoke with Sonicare reps about the motor on mine going bad. My wife and I have used it for Literally 2 years AND 1 MONTH (we got it as a wedding gift so I know pretty specifically the start date). So upon talking to them they basically just shrugged their shoulders and said you’re outta luck, you’re beyond the 2 year warranty. They offered me a 15% off coupon code to use in their online store. Probably the same one that you got. Somewhat worthless since their cheapest models are $169 there and I’m not about to drop that kinda cash on a toothbrush. I don’t hate Sonicare but man that was lame of them.

If compared to the higher-end Sonicare models, the 2 Series is still noisy and less refined. Having said that, this toothbrush will not cost a fortune. On average, it sells for about 25% more than the Essence+.

Pursonic is a rather curious brand. Their S520 electric toothbrush is well accepted across all big retail stores in the United States. However, there is very little technical information present, and most of it is found on Amazon, rather than their own website.
Lecture courses are held at the Red Mountain Campus. Clinical experiences take place at A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, located just south of the U.S. 60 and west of Power Road in Mesa.
Brushing modes: Different brushing modes — like teeth whitening, gum massaging, and pro-cleaning — change the number of oscillations or vibrations per minute. However, we couldn’t find concrete evidence that these different modes were doing what they promised. In contrast, studies show that simply brushing for two minutes with proper technique, using effective toothpaste, and flossing will live up to the promise of better dental health.
I would stay away from a scalar (AKA a “dental pic”). If you know what yoi’re doing, that’s fine, but it’s risky and I would really do a lot of research on using one first. Research all sorts of write ups and videos first but, generally speaking, I wouldn’t advise it as too many people will screw something up even if it’s just 1 out of every 10 or 20 people, that’s still a lot of people.
Our testing showed that sensitive modes will reduce the speeds of the toothbrush, which may make them more comfortable for those with sensitive teeth. But the Sonicare is also compatible with brush heads offering softer bristles specifically designed for sensitive teeth. In fact, unlike many others, Sonicare offers a variety of brush heads to help you find the perfect comfort level. In addition, replacing brushing heads feels seamless with the Sonicare — removing and placing a new head took very little effort. Competitors like the Foreo Issa had heads that took a large amount of force to remove — so much so that one of our testers actually rocketed the brushing head across the room.
Sherry, that’s a very good point. I live in Switzerland and it’s GMO free so I don’t have to worry about that, thankfully, but I need to remember that many readers are in the US and should use organic as much as possible. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

Spend more than $30 or so, and you typically get a quadrant timer. This element, though a nice option, isn’t strictly necessary unless you like that style of brushing or your dentist has noticed that you struggle with brushing evenness. “The time spent in each quadrant is just an aid to help ensure that you brush long enough to remove plaque on every tooth at the gum line and chewing surfaces, assuming you’re brushing properly,” said dentist Matthew Messina, a consumer advisor for the ADA. “Plus, we are not aware of studies that show brushing longer in smaller areas has an added beneficial effect in removing plaque.”
Brushing and flossing have the same oral hygiene goals but are inherently different. Even though a lot of toothbrush manufacturers like to claim that their products can readily replace string floss, this is often not the case.
Hi, I’ve been a dental hygienist for almost 9 years and even though I’m currently in the midst of re-negotiating my pay and benefits with my employer, I have been very satisfied with my career overall. I did start out working for different offices but as of the last 6 years or so I’m only at one office and sometimes get calls to sub for another office (for a hygienist on vacation or something). I live in California and my lowest annual income was $68K and that was for working about 3 days a week. Last year I worked 4 days a week and made almost $89K. As a single parent of a daughter about to go off to college I can honestly say it is a great career if you want to be on your own two feet. I get 3 days of sick pay, 4 days of vacation and profit sharing. I was offered medical but it was too expensive so I got my own individual plans. Every career has it’s trade offs, burn outs, complaints and aches and pains but I would pick this one all over again if given the choice.
Dental hygienists generally receive their education through colleges and universities, dental schools, junior colleges, and technical schools. The minimum requirement for state licensure of dental hygienists is an associate degree, which takes about two years to complete. The conclusion of any dental hygiene program is a clinical externship, which allows students to apply their skills and knowledge in a dental care setting through supervised patient experiences.
Do not rush is one of the first advises dentists give their patients in regards to flossing or brushing their teeth. Having a timer attached to the toothbrush is not essential for performance. But, it is very helpful in developing a healthy habit.
Dual Head – refers to electric toothbrushes that have incorporated the rotating function, as well as the side-to-side movement function. As you can see in the image below, each head is responsible for a different motion. This design is advertised as more efficient in terms of plaque removal. However, users have complained that the size of the head makes cleaning more difficult.
I used my first Sonicare for two years but the rubberized base became moldy and smelly and I needed to replace it. The second I used for 4 years and it became useless when the brush head would not stay on the base during use.
Our testing methodology has also changed a little bit, as we now give less preference to smartphone features and more weight to the oscillating and rotatory performance of the toothbrush. Having said that, the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 remains our top choice for people who are looking to get the most feature-packed model.
We love the Sonicare For Kids Sonic Electric Toothbrush electric toothbrush for taking the fuss out of brushing sessions. With bright colors, stickers, and a compatible phone app, it helps kids stay engaged while they brush. It even managed to make our young tester excited to brush again the next morning. A one-minute timer that gradually increases to two minutes will help your young ones get used to longer brushing periods, and we appreciate that the interactive features mean the brush teaches, rather than forces, better brushing habits. Kids will eventually outgrow it, but for $40 you can lay the groundwork for a future of healthy smiles.
Your toothbrush can become a breeding ground for germs, which is one reason why you ought to change it every 3 months. However, germs multiply in minutes, not months, and need to be cleaned between swaps. How do you keep your toothbrush clean? Here are some ideas.
Even so, the Sonicare is still engaging. The app comes with an interactive character named Sparkly and our tester’s parent “liked that it showed a teeth simulation my daughter could see while she brushed.” The Sonicare also managed to get our young tester excited about brushing her teeth the next morning. Her parent summed it up nicely: “I would recommend the Sonicare. It was just easier to use.”
I have owned my toothbrush for four years. In fact, I bought this product in 2012 for $31 and am only reviewing it now! It looks like the price went down a bit since I bought it. Since then, I have obviously bought many other replacements since $31 is expensive in comparison.
While we love to dive into interesting, important and sometimes obscure topics like how oil pulling helps heal leaky gut and how smiling contributes to greater immune expression, today let’s go back to basics and discuss one of the most frequently asked questions we get around how to brush our teeth.
In many ways we’re probably too critical. But we have a high regard for sonic toothbrushes in general, and Sonicare in particular, and just feel that the features they offer should be more about substance than hype.
The exception being, that the C3 Premium Plaque Control, G3 Premium Gum Care & W3 Premium White will not automatically select the optimum cleaning mode or offer reminders to the brush handle, unless used with the DiamondClean Smart or another brush with BrushSync mode pairing.
Unfortunately despite being quite well known, the Violife Zapi Luxe UV toothbrush sanitizer range is currently one to avoid. They have proven to be very unreliable and to fail quickly despite being a lot more expensive than the models above. It seems they went for cute over quality. Hopefully they will fix the problems and come back with a better model.
To protect your enamel and avoid eventually losing your teeth, you need to remove tartar and plaque. Your dentist and dental hygienist do this for you twice a year, a part of which is covered by your dental insurance, but what about the intervening months? These ten clever home remedies can help you get plaque and tartar off of your teeth at home, keeping your smile healthy and white.
Prior to this, dental hygienists were first domestically trained in 1974 for use in the New Zealand Defence Force. The one-year course was taught by the Royal New Zealand Dental Corp at the Burnham army base outside Christchurch.[12] Hygiene training was briefly offered at the Wellington School for Dental Nurses in 1990 as 2 week a supplement to Dental Therapy students training.[12] However, this was quickly discontinued.[12]
I have used an electric toothbrush for almost 7 years. I have had three total – two Sonicares and the Oral-B recommended in this post. The $$ involved for electric toothbrushes gives me pause but I cannot go back to manual (goosebumps).
These brushes give the impression of having a superior design and build. However while we do believe this is point is accurate, actually quantifying this difference in comparison to other models is difficult. (That’s why we’ve sought out sources involving user/owner input when formulating this page.)
Bluetooth technology allows for a 2-way communication between the toothbrush and your smartphone. Given you have downloaded the Oral-B app beforehand. However, it also helps you drain the battery dead quicker than the advertised 10 days. As a matter of fact, we only got it to work for 8 days straight.
The use of vinegar will slowly dissolve the calcified deposits. Therefore, yes it would remove them overtime. As would rubbing strawberries on your teeth and leave it there for 5 minutes before rinsing. They dissolve the calcified deposits with their respective weak acids, acetic acid for vinegar and citric acid for the strawberries.

To us, battery isn’t an insignificant consideration. But if a particular model met our needs in all other ways, we’d let this one slip by. This page discusses the subject of battery options in greater detail.
I considered travel convenience since I am on the move a lot. Both come with travel cases. Oral-B is a nicer looking black case. The Oral-B is made by Braun, and the travel charger uses the same kind of plug as my Braun Series 9.
An ASA physical status classification system is used to indicate future treatment options for the patient, whilst considering the implications of risk factors, such as medical conditions (i.e. endocarditis, diabetes, smoking). This also allows the dental clinician to begin planning all non-surgical therapy.
Dental hygienists school programs usually require both general education courses and courses specific to the field of dental hygiene. General education courses important to dental hygiene degrees include college level algebra, biology, and chemistry. Courses specific to dental hygiene may include anatomy, oral anatomy, materials science, pharmacology, radiography, periodontology, nutrition, and clinical skills.[citation needed]
Rather than spend for those replacements, I opted to purchase this TAO toothbrush and cleaning station. Yeah, their replacement brushes are a little pricey too, but they last an average of three months each, versus just one month for the other toothbrush brand. Most of the reviews were very positive. But those that weren’t had responses from TAO offering a replacement or refund. I also had a question, so I emailed them and received a reply within a few hours. Now how is that for customer service?
Extremely happy with these heads. A great value compared to the Sonicare name brand heads. My wife actually prefers the feel of them to the others. I don’t differ on the two, other than they are ton cheaper and work just as well, so how can you go wrong.
The Sonicare Essence Plus comes with only one cleaning mode. But, that does not stop it from reaching the top speed of 31,000 brushes per minute. This makes it practically comparable to Philips’ 4 times more expensive DiamondClean model.
Having access to all varieties of brush heads makes the Essence+ agiler. It can now be used by people with sensitive gums or braces. All you need to do is find a suitable snap-on head and replace the current one. This improved feature also allows the toothbrush to be easily shared amongst family members with different toothbrushing needs.
In the late 1800s dental disease prevention methods became popular amongst dentists and dental nurses, with dentists being trained to perform routine prophylaxis treatment in the fight against dental disease. During this period D. D. Smith of Philadelphia demonstrated the prophylactic methods to his colleagues and patients and the acceptance of his theories become increasingly popular.[9]
Oral-B’s brushes are also, on average, less expensive than replacement heads for other brushes. Dentists recommend getting a new toothbrush every three months, so these cost savings can add up over time. The Sonicare brush heads tend to be more expensive, but brands like the Waterpik and Dazzlepro have heads that are roughly the same price.
Dental assistants perform many tasks, ranging from providing patient care and taking x rays to recordkeeping and scheduling appointments. Their duties vary by state and by the dentists’ offices where they work.
The first independent non-military training began in 1994.[12] Otago Polytechnic began offering a 15-month Certificate in Dental Hygiene in Dunedin.[12] In 1998, the programme was modified to be a 2-year Diploma.[12] Otago Polytech stopped offering the course in 2000.[12] The following year, University of Otago began offering a 2-year Diploma in Dental Hygiene qualification.[12] In 2002, the university added a 3-year Bachelor of Health Sciences (endorsed in Dental Hygiene) degree alongside the Diploma.[12] This course was discontinued in 2007, when the current 3 year Bachelor of Oral Health commenced.[12]
To follow through with our car analogy, if you buy an economy car you can expect that it will get you to your destination. But your experiences during your trip (acceleration up hills, smoothness of ride) aren’t going to be the same as if you had bought a Cadillac.
If you are a fan of Indian or Mexican food, you are in luck. According to dental scientists, spicy cuisines are great for reducing plaque and tartar levels in the mouth. They do this by increasing your production of saliva. As we know, salvia is the secret weapon of the oral environment. It washes over teeth and cleanses them of nasty stuff.
Please note: During the most recent update of our Oral-B pages (11/5/2015), we noticed that the Pulsonic was no longer listed with other current products on the Oral-B (USA) website. For that reason, we must assume that it has been discontinued.
In addition to clinical practice, there are career opportunities in education, research, sales and marketing, public health, administration and government. Some hygienists combine positions in different settings and career paths for professional variety. Working in education and clinical practice is an example.

normally, you soak in vinegar to disinfect, then use baking soda to turn it into water after it has been disinfected.. then the water can evaporate nicely and leaves no vinegar smell. awesome for furniture. i wouldn’t do it on my toothbrush.
After doing the above calculations, you’ll find that a Sonicare has a frequency of about 258 hz, which is actually toward the bottom of the audible range given above. Just as a point of interest, this same frequency in musical terms (the hum you hear) is about Middle C on the piano.

Sounds like the author is on the take from Oral B. The tone of this article is “no matter what, buy from Oral B.” If he admits the Sonicare is better, he says “but the Oral B is cheaper.” If he acknowledges that the Sonicare brush has better coverage, he says “the Oral B gets into tighter spaces.”
I have been doing the coconut oil for a good while now, 1 year, and is a good hygienic practise, expecially in the morning. It makes the muscles move and refreshen, and help you clean and feel your own teeth.
The more bells and whistles your toothbrush has, the more expensive it will be, so it’s important to think about what features you’ll actually use. Sure, gum massaging modes and phone apps sound appealing, but if you’re not going to use these features daily you shouldn’t have to pay for them. We asked our experts which features were essential for improving brushing technique and which might be useful but not necessary. They narrowed it down to the following options:
As you may expect, much of a dental hygienist’s job requires working with people’s mouths, and it’s possible that you will come into contact with the occasional patient who has bad breath, swollen gums or tooth decay.
You may not have toddlers toting your toothbrush around the house, but with Autumn just around the corner, there’s a chance you’ll need to disinfect your toothbrush. Perhaps you’ll catch a cold or virus right after you pull out a new toothbrush. Maybe you’ll just want to disinfect a toothbrush while your sick. Whatever the reason, here are a few ways to disinfect a toothbrush that may come in handy.
Yes I do, and I laid them out already: it’s a biased set of studies, performed by a biased panel, deliberately constrained to a extremely confined audience of one “special issue” of one publication. The methods and procedures are laid out by the revelation of the authors, their backers, and the publication. It makes the entire analysis suspect. You are taking their data at their word.
The 4.8-ounce toothbrush comes with a 17-ounce charging glass and a 6-ounce travel charging case – a fair amount to bring with you in a suitcase. We liked the sensors on the brush that let you know when you’re brushing too hard, and spots you’ve missed. A good tool for a bad brusher.
My current sonicare died and I was very confused about the differences between the many, many models. Your excellent review helped me make up my mind as to a replacement. After perusing ebay (be careful about “used!”) I’ve ordered a replacement that was a good bit less expensive than the price quoted in your article. Thanks again!

Economical Sonicare Fc

Electric toothbrushes come in two different styles — oscillating or sonic. There’s debate about which type offers a better clean for your teeth, but it turns out choosing a style largely depends on comfort and personal preference.
Suitable for all brush handles from Sonicare with the exception of PowerUP Battery and Essence, the ProResults can deliver over 31,000 brush strokes per minute on the appropriate cleaning mode, achieving the maximum cleaning effectiveness.
Plaque that is not removed can harden into tartar, a hard mineral deposit that forms on teeth and can only be removed through professional cleaning by a dental professional. When this happens, brushing and cleaning between teeth become more difficult, and gum tissue can become swollen or may bleed. This condition is called gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. Note/Nota

I’ve decided to go all-out and use a combination of electric (sonic) toothbrush and a Waterpik. I noticed that Waterpik sells a combo package that appears to be targeted at consumers like myself. Do you have any comments on the Waterpik brand sonic toothbrush?
When it comes to good oral hygiene, electric toothbrushes usually focus on three things: plaque removal, gum health and whitening. So a good starting point when making your choice is figuring out which area you want to focus on – and we help you on this below.
The one-button simplicity is a great feature—there are no useless cleaning modes. The Pro 1000’s timer goes off every 30 seconds, alerting the user of the time by briefly pausing. After two minutes, the brush pulses three times to signal that a full cycle is up, but will continue brushing after if the user wants to keep brushing; it must always be manually turned off. This is nice for touching up on areas of your mouth you may not have given enough attention to. On many more expensive brushes, like the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean, pushing the button more than once activates different cleaning modes, forcing you to cycle through every option to get back to the simple default cleaning mode.
As you may expect, much of a dental hygienist’s job requires working with people’s mouths, and it’s possible that you will come into contact with the occasional patient who has bad breath, swollen gums or tooth decay.
Before we dive into our reviews, it is important to make the distinction between sonic and ultrasonic. The two categories are often blended into one, mistakenly comparing them to one another. Even though both types essentially fall under the electric toothbrush category, their functionalities differ to a great extent. Here is some further clarification on that note.
At the time of this update (September 5, 2017), the above toothbrushes constituted all of the models that Sonicare (Koninklijke Philips N.V) displayed on the USA version of their website as their “current” products.
The Oral-B Pro 1000 Electric Toothbrush is also a great choice — it cleans just as well as the Sonicare 2 Series, but may be a little harsher for sensitive gums. As an oscillating model, it vibrates a bit slower than our top pick, which means the toothbrush will be less likely to tickle your teeth — a potentially uncomfortable sensation typical of sonic toothbrushes. The Oral-B also offers a built-in quad-pacer that breaks its two-minute timer into four 30 second intervals for even brushing throughout your mouth. At $30 the Oral-B 1000 is also incredibly affordable.
“I cannot recommend this toothbrush enough. I have sensitive gums, so the three intensity levels are a nice feature. It also does an excellent job of plaque removal. You’ll still need to floss, but there won’t be much left at all, as seen by using plaque-disclosing tabs. The most noticeable difference is the whitening effect, too. I dipped for 11 years, and it had taken a toll on my teeth. This brush has definitely made a difference in that department. I’ll see if I can get dentist pics and update this later, but it’s really been huge. The design of the brush allows it to stay much cleaner than a lot of other electric brushes I’ve had in the past, too, which is nice. No nasty surprises when replacing heads, and it comes with a nice travel case as well. Highly recommended.”
This older Oral-B model is still available and still being manufactured. Thus, it comes with a two-year warranty and is about 4 times cheaper than Oral-B’s high tech 7000, 8000 and 9000 series. If you are looking to stay under $60, but still want an electric toothbrush, we highly recommend the Pro 1000 series.
One of the main contributions of the new study is that it shows key differences between the macrophages of the Alzheimer’s patients and of the healthy controls, and that within the Alzheimer’s patients, there were differences in macrophages.
Surprisingly, the body remains more or less the same. It is still chubby, round and feels heavy when held. Partially, because Philips has chosen to continue using a NiMH battery instead of switching to a Lithium Ion. In addition, the Essence+ does not offer any improvements in terms of noise reduction and vibration. It still feels and sounds like the older model.
Use boiling water. If you dip your toothbrush or toothbrush head into boiling water for 5 to 10 seconds, it will effectively sanitize the bristles. This is an especially important way to get rid of illness like strep, boiling your toothbrush will help you get better faster.
The exception to the above are the Essence and PowerUp lines, which each use their own specific type of head. (We make note of all of this below. We explain Sonicare brush head options in general, on this page.)
Adult toothpaste – when deciding which toothpaste to buy for yourself, or another adult, look at the benefits. For example, if you are looking to whiten teeth, whitening toothpaste could be a great option, or of you have sensitivity teeth, then toothpaste formulated for sensitive teeth is a good idea.
Comfort of the brush: We wanted to know how each brush felt on the teeth and gums. The best electric toothbrush will offer a soft clean for our teeth and gentle massage for our gums — the key components for a healthy smile. While widely popular online, our tester found the Oral-B 1000 to be a bit aggressive on the gums. Others, like the lesser known Brio, surprised us with a comfortable brushing session that didn’t dig into the gums while feeling just as fresh and clean as industry-leading models.
My head can’t stand the high-pitched tone from the sonic toothbrushes. I used a Philips sonic toothbrush for 6 months as part of a dental trial. The toothbrush itself was not being tested, the investigators wanted everyone using the same brush. I assumed I would get used to the sonic whine after a few days, but never did. Have happily used an electric Oral-B now for over 10 years (yes, it has lasted that long!) with great results.
Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
In a small pilot study, a team of US researchers has discovered how vitamin D3, a form of vitamin D, and omega 3 fatty acids may help the immune system clear the brain of amyloid plaques, one of the physical hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.
Overall (primarily based on what we’ve read in the comments found on large retailer websites) it’s our impression that first-time Sonicare owners are generally satisfied with this brush (as an improvement over their manual one) but previous owners tend not to be.
You see, saliva is very mineral rich to help remineralize any surface decay on our teeth.  Since the lower front teeth come into contact with this rich source of minerals first, some of the minerals are deposited there first.
The sanitizer reviews above will suit almost everyone. But there is one other option that a lot of people like too. The Steripod toothbrush sanitizer (get them here) – which is a totally different approach. There is no UV light, no batteries, just a little ‘pod’ that you clip onto the head of your brush after using it.

Hi I went to school for dental assisting and hate it! My dream job is to become a hygienist and assisting is just a foot in the door, but all these negative comments has me thinking. Should I go for hygiene school or not? I really want to tho!
Mouthwash kills the germs in your mouth, so it seems logical that it could kill those germs on your toothbrush too! Just soak your toothbrush bristles in mouthwash for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly with hot water. (thanks Rachel)
It is easy to think that you need specialist brushes and they do exist.  However with a Sonicare electric toothbrush you can use any of the brush heads safely with braces, you do not need a special brush head.
I have never experienced electric tooth brushes until i come across this post. Anyhow i feel they are doing great in arriving at the corners, which would be useful than manual brushing. Your share truly helped me to come up with good knowledge. I generally lean toward the
The GUM Technique Deep Clean Toothbrush makes it easy to brush the way your dental hygienist recommends. By cleaning at a 45-degree angle, you are able to really clean around and under the gums without irritating them. The patented no-slip, quad-grip thumb pad on the handle is designed to make it easier to hold the brush at the proper angle so the bristles can penetrate deeply and accomplish subgingival (below-the-gumline) cleaning. Over time, this can help prevent gum disease. The soft compact head naturally follows over the curves of the teeth, including around molars or where teeth are missing. It also cleans between teeth (which is also great for non-flossers). The soft bristles make them ideal for anyone with sensitive teeth and gums.
As for the strange silicone bristles of the Foreo, Dr. Glassman revealed that “silicone is non-abrasive, which makes it impossible to put too much pressure on your teeth, thus preventing gum recession and sensitivity.” Our experts also explained that unlike standard nylon bristles, silicone is nonporous which leaves less room on the bristles for bacteria to grow. While this makes the Foreo sound perfect, Dr. Glassman warned us that “there is not a lot of literature or clinical studies on their effectiveness with removing bacteria” from teeth. Dr. Lawlor agreed and explained “the bristle size is too thick for the silicone at this point, it’ll be too bulky to slip under your gums. There’s hope for the future, but it’s important to not give up important designs.” For now, the regular bristles of our top picks are the most effective way to go.
First off, the Sonic Pulse comes with 6 brush heads. That’s 5 more than what you get from the lower Philips models. You get, 2 interdental, 2 Slimsonic, and 2 professional brush heads. The issue we had, was with switching between brush heads. It is a bit awkward, and sometimes it feels like that head might break if you push it too hard.
Dexterity. Dental hygienists must be good at working with their hands. They generally work in tight quarters on a small part of the body, requiring fine motor skills using very precise tools and instruments.
Sterilized.. maybe but I hate to have to tell you it’s probably not clean in the sense most people are thinking. Soap leaves a residue that may or may not be harmful. Of course this depends on the soap your using.
When you are sick there may be more pathogenic bacteria than normal, and when you brush your teeth some of that bacteria is collected on the toothbrush. Studies have not been done to show how much is left after you rinse your toothbrush and if it would be enough to cause you to get sick again in the future or not. Just to be sure, when you are sick disinfect the toothbrush by letting it soak in an antibacterial solution for 10 minutes after brushing each time.

All the big names in electric toothbrushes sell a variety of brush heads that work with their brushes. Along with standard brush heads, you’ll find brush heads for sensitive teeth, orthodontic work, extra whitening, extra plaque removal, and many others.
“The ISSA Toothbrush by Foreo is a breakthrough in battery-operated toothbrushes,” says Gregg Lituchy, a dentist at Lowenberg, Lituchy & Kantor in New York City. Instead of the usual rotating bristle brush, the newly-released ISSA 2 uses a pulsing silicone brush that the company claims is 35 times more hygienic than standard bristles. The head needs to be replaced just once a year and the charge lasts about 6 months.
You would be surprised at how many natural home remedies there are for plaque removal. For example, did you know figs are great at fighting bacteria and other nasties on teeth? You just have to eat a handful (three or four) figs all at the same time. Chew them up slowly and deliberately, to give them as much exposure to the gums and teeth as possible. The chewing will kickstart the salivary glands and, as saliva contains antibacterial properties, this is only ever a bad thing for plaque and tartar accumulations.

Brand New Plaque Removal From Arteries

It is remarkable that new sonic toothbrushes come with 5 or even 6 brushing modes. We understand and acknowledge the need for a more sensitive brushing mode. Some people do have more vulnerable and delicate gums. But beyond that, there is no mode that will improve the progress of teeth whitening. This is achieved by various other products, which unlike toothbrushes, have been tested and proven to do so.
Yeah, I have the previous pick, and I get a bit squigged out at times if I forget to clean it. The base especially gets super gunky and I’m pretty sure it’s transferred up into the charging hole, and the little notch that the handle inserts seems like a dirty spot too :/
Each state requires dental hygienists to be licensed, and requirements vary by state. For most, licensure requires a degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and passing written and clinical exams administered by the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations.
You ARE taking their data at their word, you know.
Ease of using the brush: We also asked our testers to rate how easy the toothbrushes were to maneuver. We wanted toothbrushes that would help us maintain proper technique — holding the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums with short tooth-wide strokes. Some, like the Jim Ellis, made our tester’s hand tired and came with a circular handle that was “difficult to maneuver or twist around.” (Note: we were curious about this comment, so we ran some additional tests on handle comfort and found that slightly more square handles — pretty standard for most models — are actually much easier to handle). Our testers reported that others, like the Fairywell, were “lighter and a bit less rounded so it was easier to maneuver around and hold for the duration of cleaning.”
We probably don’t need to tell you, but plaque is oral health enemy number one. During the day it builds up on and between your teeth. It leads to tartar, cavities and gum disease so you need to remove it daily to keep your teeth healthy.
I want to become a dental hygienist but what I’m most worried about is after i finish up my 2 years of college, if I’ll be able to get hired! Or if they’ll allow me to work full time in just one office. I am a single mother and I am graduating at 17. I guess I’m worried about whether or not I’ll be allowed in one office and if my hours will make me at least 50,000 annually like the internet says it will.
I have used an electric toothbrush for almost 7 years. I have had three total – two Sonicares and the Oral-B recommended in this post. The $$ involved for electric toothbrushes gives me pause but I cannot go back to manual (goosebumps).
If you are looking for a toothbrush under $40, the Essence+ might be just right for you. Philips has designed this lower-tech model as a transitional toothbrush. Meaning, if you are ready to make the switch from manual to electric, but you are not ready to spend $200, this model will suit your needs.
Motor-powered toothbrushes with 30,000+ brush strokes per minute will save you time. They will truly clean the visible parts of the teeth, as well as between teeth that are not tightly squeezed. Where they will fail, however, is reaching the deep and dark parts of teeth that are very close to each other.
The Pro 1000 is among Oral-B’s least expensive models, but it comes with all the features most of our experts recommended, for the lowest price—a two-minute timer (with a nice-to-have quadrant alert) and a wide selection of compatible and affordable brush heads. And recently the Pro 1000 was among the first five electric toothbrushes to receive the ADA Seal of Acceptance. The Pro 1000 has comfortable-feeling oscillating bristles, a simple one-button interface, and a battery that lasted 11½ days with twice-daily use in our tests. The body survived drop tests on the floor and into water. Best of all, you’re not getting overcharged for features like digital monitors, travel cases, or inductive chargers—none of which will actually get your teeth any cleaner than the Pro 1000 can.
Via our researcher & Amazon: “Unlike brushes that just vibrate, Oral-B’s clinically proven technology pulsates to break up plaque and oscillates and rotates to sweep plaque away”& “The Vitality series only rotates”.

Dentists recommend you brush your teeth for two minutes twice daily. A built-in timer, which either switches the toothbrush off at the two-minute mark or vibrates to indicate the time is up, makes it easier to achieve this goal.
I’m a hygienist and when I was in school all my patients had free dental care and my “student loan” paid for most of it we also went to low income schools taught kids how to floss and brush and gave supplies. So give professions some credit it’s not just professions want your money. I share my education to keep people healthy. But some info here isn’t correct. Baking soda and peroxide are fine you’re okay to use.. acidic will cause perminent damage to teeth overtime. And the scaling people cause notching and damage teeth if not done correctly I see it all the time. And you aren’t getting under the gums which is the most damaging part. So if you try you can find schools for free these students need clinic hours. SJVC is one for example. Your teeth and health are worth the time. Floss and brush. Watch youtube videos to see it done correctly. Home remedies are fine but this one isn’t accurate.
The “ad hominem attack” is yours, claiming I said “it feels cleaner to me” when I said no such thing. My checkups are better, as I suspected they might be from the way my teeth felt. But I don’t use “it feels cleaner to me” as evidence, nor do I offer it as such.
Plaque is the accumulation of bacteria, dead cells, and debris on your teeth. It is invisible to the eye, but is harmful to the teeth as it interacts with certain foods, releasing an acid which causes tooth decay. Built-up plaque can also turn into tartar, which is much harder to remove, and can cause gum recession and inflammation. Removing plaque is very easy to do, as it involves little more than an effective cleaning!
Thank you for this no nonsense comparison. I don’t need toothbrushes with LCD readouts and 5 different settings. Simpler is better. Because of this article I am getting the EasyClean. After 10 years with my basic Essence model, I need an upgrade and the DiamondClean brush heads will be an improvement too. Again, thank you so much!

The field of dental hygiene is growing rapidly. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dental hygienists is expected to increase by 38 percent between 2010 and 2020 – considerably faster than average.1 Plus, dental hygienists will always be in demand because people will always need their teeth to be cleaned!
Brush is still working great, but I have noticed that anything liquid will start to get between the brush-head and the unit. While I wiped it dry with a tower after every use and I cleaned it weekly, as directed, by removing the brush-head and wiping down both the unit and the base, I noticed, after about two months, the metal tip that moves the brush-head was stained a rust-color. I tried removing it with no luck. And while it has not affected the performance of the unit, it is an obvious design-flaw since the unit must be turned upside down to charge and clean, thus letting gravity push the liquid that has seeped between the brush-head rubber and the brush-unit to collect at the base of the brush-head, leaving the metal head to sit in the goop. So now I make sure I clean it with a dry cloth more often and I use a q-tip to remove the saliva, toothpaste, and water that collects inside the brush-head.
I very rarely floss. I know I should, but I don’t do it often. After switching to this brush, dentists have not told me that it looks like I don’t floss anymore! I am NOT saying you can avoid flossing by using this brush, but I take it to mean that it does a way better job than my old manual toothbrush ever did
November 14, 2017 – To keep up with new brands and changing technology, we’ve completely revamped our electric toothbrush review from 2015. This time around, we expanded our top picks from one to four to accommodate more budgets and levels of features. We also updated our methodology so that it’s consistent with current research on oral hygiene, and sent 16 toothbrushes home with a team of testers to get real-life feedback. Ultimately, we replaced our original top pick, the Oral-B 7000, with the more-streamlined Philips Sonicare 2, which is $25 cheaper and includes all the key features recommended by dentists to actually improve your brushing technique. If you’re in the market for an electric toothbrush that includes a similarly robust set of features as the Oral-B 7000, we recommend the Philips DiamondClean, which our testers found easier to maneuver, and comes with an intuitive, informative app.
Offering the deepest clean, the Sonicare electric toothbrush is not as effective without such an engineered brush head.  Taking full advantage of the high-frequency and high-amplitude brush movements, performing over 31,000 strokes per minute, the brush head takes that power and drives toothpaste and fluid deep in between teeth.
Also, some of the dental hygeneists here offering advice are clearly close-minded and ignorant and are just regurgitating what their text-books told them…”Indoctrinate yourself with this text book, don’t use any critical thinking and don’t question, pass these tests, now we’ll give you a certification paper and you’ll be payed well and have a intellectual sounding title for your job/career”. WAKE UP! These are the same sort of mindless zombies who probably think big-agro and big-pharma companies (eg. Monsanto, Merck, Pfizer) are moral companies with the health of others as their interest which couldn’t be further from the truth (their interests are profits, power, and poison).
As for studies, the NIH did many… so I’m not sure where you go and say there weren’t any independent ones. Here’s one that confirms these brushes DO make a difference versus manual (and that the Sonicare was slightly better than the OralB): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9487838 I’ll agree, it’s an older study, but the findings should still hold true, since the principle tech (vibrations/oscillations) are the same for the most part.
There is no proof that you even need to completely sanitize your toothbrush. So you may skip this step if you want to. If you are a little paranoid and just want to ensure that your toothbrush stays clean then sanitize it in solution about once a week.
not true for all areas. I live in a small town with lots of dental offices. the office I work at now we have hygienists working part time (24hr/week) and making $78,000/year. plus they get vacation time sick time holiday pay and yearly bonuses.
Using organic sesame oil great for oil pulling 1tbsp sesame oil 1 tbsp hot or warm water not (boiling) swish in mouth for 45min or as long as you can until you make it up to 45min good for reducing oral plaque. No, it does not. But be careful when using stuff like the orange peel. Don’t press too hard and be very gentle with them. Also, if your braces are new, do it at least a week after you get them because they will still be sour then and might hurt if they are new. If you have had them a long time ago, it shouldn’t hurt your braces in any way.

Who Sells Philip Sonicare Brush Heads

These are excellent replacement brush heads for the Sonicare toothbrush. I tried an off-brand replacement before that did not fit the toothbrush. These fit perfectly and very snug! I’ve been using it for about a week now and I’m still very pleased with my purchase. They are a little softer than I’m use to, but I don’t mind…especially when consider that an 8-pack is only $14 compared to a 2-pack of the Sonicate brand for between $20-$30! If you’re looking for a high-quality, inexpensive replacement, look no further.
While these programs generally take between 15 and 18 months, students are often allowed to take courses at their own pace. This flexibility will come in handy if you’re juggling a full-time workload and other obligations.
There are actually two HealthyWhite+ models, the other one is the HX8918/10 ($130). It comes with a tongue cleaner brush head. We don’t consider that an important feature. Both models come with a travel case.
As many others have already said, what I received appear to be either non-OEM brush heads, or were defective in some way. In my case, the bristles looked like they had been lopped off with a pair of scissors – they were less than 1/4 of an inch long and cut in a very irregular fashion. Brown cardboard packaging may or may not be from Philips… I will steer clear of these in the future. Thanks Amazon for the refund.
Activated charcoal is a natural way to remove tartar and plaque it uses can date back to over 3000 year, long before we had toothpaste to brush our teeth. It has a number of medical uses such as removing poison and toxins from our body ,whitening teeth getting rid of bad breath  and removing tartar which we will be looking at.
The purpose of this study was to determine to what degree the vibratory action of powered toothbrushes was dampened when applying brushing force. The specific Sonicare tested was the Elite (a model similar in design to the Essence).
Like many modern day technological gadgets, sonic toothbrushes come with a variety of features. Each and every one of them is being promoted as helpful in regards to oral hygiene. Some modes claim to help you develop better habits while others insist on improving brushing technique and helping eliminate more plaque. Though some of those statements might hold a varying level of truth, we are not here to judge their validity.
Careful, sustained brushing. Wait half an hour after each meal, then brush your teeth. This removes plaque and prevents tartar from forming. If you brush as long as three minutes, using the right technique, you should be able to remove all of the plaque.
I’m starting to suspect that the strong, oscillating movements of the Oral-B may be contributing to the problem. I had a Sonicare a million years ago, and I don’t remember it being so hard on my gums. Would switching back help, or should I get a more expensive Oral-B? I have a very small mouth, so I can’t tolerate large brush heads. I liked the Quadpacer feature, because I really do need to be reminded to brush uniformly.
The UV cleaners will do most of the work for you in ensuring that harmful microorganisms are terminated. However, to give them a chance of working to their best, there are a few things you can do to help them out. These things are even more important if you don’t UV treat your brush.
Soak your toothbrush head in alcohol. Rubbing alcohol will kill the germs, and if you let it air dry or rinse it with water afterwards you can brush immediately after. Rubbing alcohol does the job pretty quickly, but leave your toothbrush in a glass or bowl of it for at least a minute to assure sanitation.
It is easy to think that you need specialist brushes and they do exist.  However with a Sonicare electric toothbrush you can use any of the brush heads safely with braces, you do not need a special brush head.
The TAO Clean Aura Clean Sonic Toothbrush uses 40,000 tiny brush strokes per minute to sweep away plaque and gently polish away surface stains. Features dual cleaning settings and dentist-recommended 2-minute brush timer
Just went on vacation and was battling the beginning of a cold. Did everything you can think of not to be sick on vacation and I conquered it and was great all through vacation. My son was prescribed a zpack before we left and took it starting a day before we left and immediately got better. FYI I took a diff toothbrush on trip. When I got back 2 weeks later (brushed with toothbrush I had at home) and my throat started hurting exactly how it had two weeks before and ended up having to take a zpack 1.5 weeks later to get rid of it. After reading this post I think it was my toothbrush. I store it in a plastic open container in a drawer so it is not upright and it is dark and now I see that bacteria can live 2 weeks in the dark and I live in a very humid area so very well could have been my toothbrush!!! Thanks for the great tips, I will change my toothbrush habits and teach my family too!!
Hi Isabel, thanks for reaching out! You can see what courses are included in our Dental Hygiene program by visiting http://docs.carrington.edu/catalog/carrington-college.pdf, pages 38-40. If you would like more information, visit http://carrington.edu/start-now/ or give us a call at 1-855-289-2171.
Features such as timers, UV sterilizers, and smartphone connectivity are as useful as your iPhone’s Siri feature. They might be cool to have, so you can tell your friends about. But, at the end of the day, they fail to add any real value to essential goal of a toothbrush, which is cleaning teeth.
Our research showed that you do not need to spend over $100 in order to get an excellent toothbrush. However, there are some electric toothbrushes that perform better with braces, and some that perform better with sensitive and receding gums. We have reviewed both types for you, to make your choice easier.
Sonicare brushing features – An outline of the various brushing modes different Sonicare models have, and what we think of each of them. It explains the importance of having the 31,000 strokes-per-minute brushing action.
While home remedies should never be used as a substitute for proper dental treatment, there are some methods that have proved very effective. The following section will outline some of these methods in more detail.
Whether this is something you have always suffered from or whether as a result of surgery or infection, then there are options which can ease the process of cleaning your teeth with a Sonicare electric brush, but still bring many of the benefits.
Prerequisites for an associate’s degree include a high school diploma and minimum education requirements in major subject areas. ACT or SAT scores may be required. Bachelor’s degree programs require a high school diploma or equivalent, or an associate’s degree in dental hygiene; ACT or SAT scores are required, and schools of dentistry may also request letters of recommendation. Both associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs require intensive clinical components, such as hours of hands-on experience in a healthcare setting.
The Oral-B Pro 1000 is many consumers’ first choice of an electric toothbrush. It is inexpensive, it cleans well, and it is easier to use when compared to most high-end models that come with smartphone apps and Bluetooth connections. As all other Oral-B models, it is oscillating, so that makes it a bit slower when compared to our top choice – the Sonicare 2 Series. When tested, we found the Pro 1000 is also not as gentle on the gums. We believe that to be due to the harder bristles on the brush head.
The job market for dental hygienists is booming. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the occupation will grow nearly 20 percent by 2026, which is much faster than the average growth rate for most professions. This swell in jobs is likely due to the increased awareness among consumers of how oral health is linked to their overall health.
A guy did a full-on replacement of the Oral-B’s native battery with a standard AA Eneloop. He didn’t have to do anything besides solder new leads to the battery and it worked tremendously well – in fact, the brush held its charge far better and worked more effectively with the Eneloop.
We found the downfall of the 7000 model in its NiMH battery. When brushing twice a day, while connected to the app, the battery only lasted for 8 days. Compared to other similar toothbrushes, this is not cool, to say the least. Especially when it takes 24 hours to fully charge the battery.

My recent order arrived. The replacement brushes are so short they look like they have been cut back to the plastic head. If I use them it will be hard plastic on my teeth. I don’t know what happened to these replacement heads. I’m sending them back.
This can be a very strange experience, because the dentist moves in close and uses a special scraping instrument to, literally, force the plaque from the teeth. They tend to focus particularly hard on areas where the tarter has begun to form calcified spots. These can be seen a little white or yellow marks on the outer surface of the enamel.

NOTE: This is an older sonic model. It is still being sold, and there is still warranty on it. However, we can in no way guarantee how long this will last for. Philips may decide to finally remove this item from the shelves. For now, people seem to love it, so it still stays in production.
HOWEVER, if you read reviews at sites like Amazon, long time Sonicare users are fairly passionate in their opinion that the Series 2 and Series 3 do not have the performance of older models nor the HealthyWhite+ and above models. They seem very definitive in this opinion and yes they say they turn off the “easy start.” Some even say the Essence makes their teeth feel cleaner than the Series 2.
Dr. McConnell and Casper agree that electric toothbrushes are better instruments, in large part because they’re less “technique-sensitive” than manual brushes. Electric toothbrushes give more consistent results because they clean teeth in a more consistent manner.
Many Sonicare brushes feature Quadpacer or BrushPacer. These functions signal when you should advance to cleaning the next portion of your mouth. Not everyone values this type of indicator. We state below which models allow you to deactivate it.

For this reason, our reviews were not limited to Philips’ Sonicare series. Instead, we looked at all current market competitors, such as Waterpik, Pursonic, Panasonic, CUH, Aiyabrush, Foreo, Sterline, and 2Nice. This allowed us to compare technologies, user experience, and customer service around the industry. It also contributed to a more holistic and complete list.
If you have blood in your toothpaste after brushing, you may have early symptoms of gingivitis. Left untreated, it can develop into gum disease and may even have wider health implications. Caught early, gingivitis is easy to treat and prevent with your daily routine.
Physicians and surgeons diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses. Physicians examine patients; take medical histories; prescribe medications; and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. They counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive healthcare. Surgeons operate on patients to treat injuries, such as broken bones; diseases, such as cancerous tumors; and deformities, such as cleft palates.
I’m a dental hygienist and have worked in areas volunteering including in shelters where people cannot afford “regular” dental visits. But please please do not run anything acidic on your teeth and leave it there for it to scientifically proven eat away at your teeth. Baking soda does have a toothpaste but large amounts causes microabrasions in the teeth, potentially causing tooth damage and increased staining. Light toothbrushing half on the tooth half on the gums with a basic fluoridated toothpaste , floss, and listerine mouth rinse will do the tricks. These are scientifically proven recommendations. Tartar builds up from increased minerals in the saliva, it’s natural but it also builds up underneath the gums which staying there for years can cause bone loss and infection in the body. Try to go if you can save up the 120 cleaning at least once a year, and if not do your best but be careful wielding sharp picks in your mouth it took me three years of school to learn that skill 😉
This is a pretty cool feature. A pressure sensor is meant to remind us that we should not press too hard when we brush. Often times over-brushing can be rough on the gum and cause them to bleed. The pressure sensor makes an alarming sound when it senses that too much pressure is being employed. In some cases, the warning can take the form of a flash. It depends on the model and makes of the toothbrush.
Wow. I have now bought and own both a FlexCare and a DiamondClean model. The difference in vibration between these models and the 2 Series is many times over. My teeth feel much cleaner, the strength/power of the vibrations is much more intense with these higher end models.
Dental hygienists school programs usually require both general education courses and courses specific to the field of dental hygiene. General education courses important to dental hygiene degrees include college level algebra, biology, and chemistry. Courses specific to dental hygiene may include anatomy, oral anatomy, materials science, pharmacology, radiography, periodontology, nutrition, and clinical skills.[citation needed]
We get your point about frailty but will also point out that you can break your Series 2 and replace it again for about the same cost as one HealthyWhite. And in an era of planned obsolescence (including the situation where battery failure = toothbrush death), investing as little as possible has advantages.
Proper tooth brushing is critically important to good dental hygiene. Parents can help their children practice proper tooth brushing by starting to clean teeth early, using the right amount of fluoride toothpaste, supervising tooth brushing, and talking to a pediatrician or dentist about a child’s specific fluoride needs. More information on caring for children’s teeth may be found at CDC’s Brush Up on Healthy Teeth pages.
The Sonicare 3 Series also has the QuadPacer feature and the easy-start feature. The former is an automatic mode that vibrates every 30 seconds to remind you to move the brush from one set of teeth to the next. It does that 4 times per brushing. The easy-start is a mode that progressively increases the intensity of the brushing over the next 14 or so days. This allows users to slowly get to 31,000 brush strokes per minute.
Our view is that these apps are fun, but for a short period of time. After a while, they become repetitive and monotone. So, if a person’s attachment to tooth brushing is associated with the app, it will quickly disappear. Therefore, not creating long-term discipline.
Box includes TAO Clean Aura Clean Sonic Toothbrush Handle, TAO Clean Aura Clean Base Station, hygienically sealed Aura Clean Brush Heads x3, and Power Adaptor & Cable, and is charged enough for one full use
Suitable for a variety of users, but particularly those looking to improve gum health.   In just 2 weeks the results can be seen and Phillips suggest up to 7 times more plaque removal than a manual brush.
This mini-cabinet is big enough for up to 5 toothbrushes or toothbrush heads. Or swap one of those and you can put your razor in here too! You can power it by either batteries (4 x AA) or using the included AC adapter. You can use it on a counter, but it is much better attached to a wall (make sure you mount it properly level for the door to work correctly). The UV light is switched on automatically on closing the door, so as soon as you return your toothbrush it gets zapped. Then the light also automatically activates every 6 hours through the day too. It only runs for 9 minutes each time though so it uses the tiniest amount of electricity – and the UV bulb is rated for 20,000 hours too, so that’s a lot of 9 minute cycles!
Electric toothbrushes are not any more effective at cleaning teeth than regular manually-operated ones. However, some people find that they are inclined to brush their teeth more regularly and for longer when they own an electric toothbrush, so investing in one may not be a bad idea.
Waterik is the undisputed champion when it comes to water flossers. But, not too many people know that they also make a pretty good electric toothbrush. Perhaps, they got tired of the never-ending argument about flossing vs brushing and decided to dominate both sides.
The Oral-B Pro 1000 brush comes with a minimal charging pedestal that simply requires dropping the brush onto a peg. Fully charged, it lasts for at least a week of twice-daily two-minute brushing sessions before needing a recharge, which is on a par with the other toothbrushes we tested in this price range and plenty for most people.
In order to stay up to date with manufacturing trends and technology, we have revamped our list of top performing electric toothbrushes in order to better reflect the current market. A market that is estimated to have grown to $4.1 billion in annual sales and is expected to double that number by 2021.
In 1915 Connecticut amended the dental practice act to include the regulation of dental hygienists and other states followed amending dental hygiene regulations outlining the scope of practice of a dental hygienist.[9]
If you’re interested in considering a sonic toothbrush that’s not a Sonicare, we’ve noticed the Braun Oral B Pulsonic. Its features list places it in the same general category as the Sonicare models we discuss on this page.
Our only issue with the Sonicare 2 Series is that we wish it came with a pressure sensor. The most advanced Sonicare (the Sonicare DiamondClean) includes one that quickly activates as soon as too much pressure is applied. But the Sonicare 2 Series didn’t have a pressure sensor, and we couldn’t find any around its price point with an accurate pressure sensor either. For example, the Oral-B 1000 has one, but it required an unreasonable amount of pressure before alerting us — think trying to snap the toothbrush head off vs. an overly firm press. Pressure is important for technique, and we’re disappointed that an accurate pressure sensor isn’t considered a standard feature yet.
To accomplish this with a Sonicare, you simply need to: 1) Pick a brush that has Sonicare’s best brushing action (as discussed above), so this task is as easy for you as possible. 2) Use the brush until that point when you have effective cleaned your teeth (stop when your teeth are clean, not necessarily once the two minute timer has signaled).
In order to fully charge, the Pro 1000 took about 16 hours. This is 8 hours less than the Pro 7000 took. It also lasted longer than the Pro 7000 by 2 days (10 days total). Since there is only one brushing mode available, we were not able to play around and conduct different time-based tests.
That is exactly what is bad about ALL these brushes but doesn’t get a mention in the review – the built-in obsolescence via the needlessly built-in battery. I guess you have to have some environmental heart to care about that. I guess you also have to live in a typical ex-colony where the cost means something. What Europeans and Americans throw away appals me.

The 2 Series Sonicare is without a doubt consumers’ top pick. With over 4,000 positive reviews on Amazon and a 4.3 rating, this older model will not be extinct anytime soon. Especially now that it is available in 5 different colors, including a “white on ultra-coral” that I am itching to simply call “pink”. But, let’s leave color definitions to Philips.
Hello guys! Thank you so much for all of the reviews about the Sonicares. However I still don´t know which one to buy. My main reason for buying a Sonicare is because it should whiten the teeth. Should I get the Healthy White or all the other similar ones will do the job?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises against using your dishwasher or microwave to disinfect toothbrushes. The CDC even includes ultraviolet devices on the list of things that may damage the toothbrush.
Keep an eye on how hard you are brushing your teeth. You should not be placing a great pressure on them. It will not clean your teeth faster or better; be reasonably gentle and use a soft bristled brush for comfort. It is a common misconception to believe that hard bristled brushes are better at getting rid of plaque.
This is some of the worst advice I have ever seen! Just curious…..do you have a degree in dentistry?? Using baking soda on a regular basis is very abrasive on the teeth which in turn can cause erosion to the enamel and sensitivity. Rubbing citrus fruits on teeth? Are you kidding me? The acid from the citrus can cause erosion on the teeth, which in turn causes sensitivity, in some cases sensitivity bad enough to the point that restorative dentistry needs to be done. We see it all the time with people that suck on lemons! And suggesting using a “dental pic” as you call it…it’s called a scaler; should NEVER be done by anyone other than a hygienist or dentist. You can cause damage to the gum tissue if you don’t know what you’re doing. Stupid advice! All of it is nonsense! Don’t do any of these things! Get the tarter/calculus removed by a professional!
People used to think that as you got older you naturally lost your teeth. We now know that’s not true. By following easy steps for keeping your teeth and gums healthy – plus seeing your dentist regularly — you can have your teeth for a lifetime!
With a contoured profile the head and bristles fit naturally to the shape of your teeth to help achieve that all round effective clean. The click on and off brush head includes the reminder bristles which fade from blue to white over 3 months and helps you know when to replace the head.

Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice.
Subscription toothbrushes: The main draw of a subscription toothbrush is convenience. Rather than having to buy a new replacement head every 3 months — the recommended lifespan of a toothbrush head — a subscription service will simply send you one. We held our subscription toothbrushes to the same quality standards as our other adult toothbrushes. But given that they are subscription toothbrushes, we also compared the terms of service to see whether one was more worthwhile or cost effective than the other.
“Of course something this size isn’t gonna be as powerful as a full-size Sonicare or Oral-B electric toothbrush, but this is awesome and much better than a nonelectric travel toothbrush. The design is great — love that you can’t accidentally turn it on in your purse. Also love that it came with a triple-A battery and an extra brush head. Would buy again and would highly recommend!”
The key differences were in gene expression and trascription patterns. The Alzheimer’s patients’ macrophages expressed inflammatory genes differently to those of the healthy controls, and there were two distinct groups of Alzheimer’s patients. In one group, the macrophages had increased transcription of inflammatory genes, while in the other, the transcription was decreased.
The Goby is a brand-new product without the track record of Philips or Oral-B. Though we’re impressed by the Goby for its simplicity and efficacy, we can’t say yet how long it will last with daily use. It is simply too new a product and too new a company to know. Goby offers a lifetime warranty on its brush, but, as of now, it’s unclear if the company will outlive your brush.
So you basically tested everything except the cleaning power, which is sort of the “main feature”. I mean, the word “bacteria” shows up twice in the article. It’s clear that most people don’t brush enough or the wrong way, so a criteria like “percentage of bacteria / plaque removed per second of brushing” seems important.
As we noted earlier in this guide, brush heads are a matter of personal preference of size, shape, and material. A number of third-party brands make replacement heads for Oral-B toothbrushes that tend to be much cheaper. There are some reports in user reviews that these aftermarket brushes sometimes do not fit or are of a lower quality than branded brushes, and the heads tend to be rated lower. Pay close attention when shopping for brush heads to what is “Oral-B” vs. “Oral-B compatible.”
At $165, the DiamondClean is our most expensive toothbrush. But we think it earns its hefty price tag. One of the benefits is the inclusion of a pressure sensor that actually activates without needing an unreasonable amount of pressure. Although we didn’t make pressure sensors a must-have (due to the variability in the technology), the feature came highly recommended from our experts and the DiamondClean’s sensor is top-of-the-line. When even slightly too much pressure is applied, the handle vibrates and a purple light flashes until you ease up. The closest competitor was the Oral-B 8000 which also came with an accurate pressure sensor and app compatibility. However, the core difference between the DiamondClean and Oral-B 8000 came down to usability. In short, the DiamondClean’s features were much easier to use.
So I’ve been using the Smileactives Vibrite Sonic Toothbrush and really like it. But you didn’t even look at it? Or did you? I’m curious as to what you think if it. It has all the mandatory features you list and I really like the UV sanitizing storage case that is supposed to keep the brush head clean. Plus it’s designed for whitening. Your thoughts on this one? https://smileactives.com/vibrite-sonic-teeth-whitening-toothbrush/
Brushing and flossing have the same oral hygiene goals but are inherently different. Even though a lot of toothbrush manufacturers like to claim that their products can readily replace string floss, this is often not the case.
Oral-B is the #1 dentist and hygienist recommended brand worldwide and is the brand that most dentists use themselves, so you know you’ll get a good clean when you use one of their toothbrushes. This is available in soft or medium varieties, depending on your preferences. The colors in your pack of two toothbrushes will vary. This is an Amazon best seller, has superior online reviews, and some people claim that it works as well as electric toothbrushes. If you need a dependable floss as well, consider the Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Comfort Plus Mint Flavor Floss.

Using Magnesium oil sprayed onto your toothbrush instead of toothpaste will remove calcium deposits, remove fluoride damage, re-build enamel and whiten teeth…although not whiten as effectively as baking soda.
In total, we reviewed 52 electric and rechargeable toothbrushes from 12 different manufacturers. We compared the big brands as well as the small industry underdogs. But, do not worry, we narrowed down that list to seven superior models!
These are great replacement toothbrush head for my Sonicare brush handle. I was using the oem brush head from sonicare for the past 2 years until I realized that there were cheaper alternatives online. I decided to give these a try and they function the exact same as the sonicare ones.Out of the box, the brush heads come with all the colored rings and brush head covers like the real ones do.
With an angled neck and contoured bristles that correspond to the natural shape of your teeth, the e-Series Standard toothbrush heads deliver a thorough, comfortable brushing experience. The angled neck provides optimal reach for the bristles, which have soft rounded ends that gently massage your gums and go deep between teeth to remove plaque.

Guys please decide for yourselves ,,,,, for all those saying that people did not have regular dental visits a century ago, should also know that those people had different eating habits too they were not consuming as much ice creams, soft drinks, chocolates either
We do think Sonicare toothbrushes are great and important products but just for one main reason, their full-power 31,0000 brush-strokes-per-minute brushing action. (This is labeled as “Clean” mode on almost all models.)
If I still had insurance that allowed a dentist, I would go in a heartbeat! Unfortunately, that isn’t going to happen. I am lucky to have enough money for gas a week before I get another check. I will do anything not to get bad teeth until I can get on my feet again after I finish school.
This information was exactly what I was looking for and this site is probably the best product comparison website I have ever seen. Keep up the good work! I couldn’t find any affiliate links so that I could order through the site however…but maybe I missed them?
On their website Phillips claim that the EasyClean removes 2 x plaque while more expensive models remove up to 7 x plaque. Do you think this claim stands up? If it does, then, although I much prefer not to have the extra modes it looks like I must!
Being a hygienist….has it’s tough days and easy days. LEARNING to become a hygienist is actually one of the most difficult programs you can go through – not in a stuck up way, but I have always been in honors courses throughout highschool and college, and studied 3 years for a double major before discovering and switching into hygiene. It is no joke – at least the program I was in. They only accepted 3.8GPA or higher and required pre-reqs.
Flossing helps remove debris and interproximal dental plaque, the plaque that collects between two teeth. Dental floss (or dental tape) helps clean these hard-to-reach tooth surfaces and reduces the likelihood of gum disease and tooth decay.
That is a completely ad hominem attack on a scientific paper in a peer-reviewed journal. Do you have any specific complaints with their methods, procedures, or analysis, which is completely laid out in the open? If so, then let’s hear them. That’s the great thing about the scientific method.
Second, the pH in our mouths plays a substantial role in how much of the available minerals are deposited on our teeth as plaque and how much of these minerals in saliva actually repair our teeth.  Ideally, we want our saliva right around neutral, 6.8-7.0.  This ideal range provides the best environment to balance our oral flora.
This is by no stretch of the imagination the most technological electric toothbrush on the market. As a matter of fact, it is quite the opposite. While it does have the patented 3D cleaning action (oscillating, pulsating and vibrating), a functioning pressure sensor and a timer, the 1000 series comes only with one cleaning mode. Despite being short on cleaning functions, we found this toothbrush to be quite effective in removing plaque.
Hi my name is Jose. I really want a career in Dental hygiene, but I’m concerned that It may be a bad choice since most hygienist are female. Would it be a good idea to follow that path or should I look somewhere else? Is it okay if a hygienist is male?
Not to brag, but we have spent some considerable time working on this list. All features mentioned above are current as of February 25th, 2017. But, they are subject to change, as we have no control over what the manufacturers do, or choose to include in their models.
Sonic toothbrushes have longer heads that resemble traditional toothbrushes and vibrate up to 40,000 strokes per minute. Dr. Glassman told us they also incorporate “fluid dynamics which is a secondary cleaning action that extends the brush’s reach.” Translation? A sonic toothbrush’s scrubbing can reach farther than its oscillating counterpart’s (even if it does tickle a bit on the way).
YOu might want to check the reviews on lifetime for a Sonicare. Their design tends to break after two years having to buy a new handset to use up the expensive replacement brushes you might have bouhg in a larger pack to save a little.
First off, I did a bunch of research for myself to compare OralB vs Sonicare and found that they were mostly comparable, when the user was properly “trained”. The biggest issue I found (and my own non-parent dentist can confirm) was that the small/round head caused more problems for patients, as they didn’t know how to use it “well”. In other words, the small head required different operation than the traditional “long” head style… as confirmed by studies (I can’t find this one at the moment) and my dentist.
Hi Brooklyn! If you have that desire to become a dental hygienist, we would love to help prepare you for that career. Every job will have its own ups and downs, but we’re sure you will thrive and be successful wherever you end up! You can learn more about our Dental Hygiene program at http://carrington.edu/degrees/dental-hygiene/. Please give us a call at 1-855-289-2171 so we can answer any questions you have.
Readers ask us this question all the time. The truth is that a lot of brands add unnecessary features to their toothbrushes in order to increase the price. In fact, most electric toothbrushes priced $69 and up will perform more or less the same. As long as their brush strokes per minute are similar, so it will be their performance.
Employment of dental hygienists is projected to grow 20 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. The demand for dental services will increase as the population ages and as research continues to link oral health to overall health.
I thought maybe it was just a design difference and not a performance difference, as the gum health is not very good looking compared to the Flexcare+ and that the 31000 vibrations were what counted, but the gum care model was a big disappointment. Unpleasant noise and lower amplitude at the strokes compared to the Flexcare+ and also the handle vibrated, so more an experience like the Oral B, though I think it is still cleaning better than the Oral B.
Not only is this a 2 pack bundle of one of the best electric toothbrushes on the market (that’s 2 handles — not just 2 heads and hassle swapping!), it also includes 2 travel caps, 2 travel hard cases and a travel charger. The UV sanitizer is built into the base unit. This brush uses Philips flagship sonic cleaning system which claims to remove up to 100% more staining, and 7x more plaque than a normal toothbrush. It’s been shown to improve gum health in just 2 weeks. Users even say the UV sanitizer makes a noticeable difference.
Thank you Tracy! As a hygienist I was hoping someone with some sense would comment on this ridiculous post. But who knows, maybe it really was meant to be a big joke? ? you gotta love the before and after pictures too. I’m pretty sure all that calculus just magically melted away with baking soda and orange peels. Why haven’t we just been using this home remedy all along? I work my fingers to the bone scraping this off all day long the hard way. Who knew??
It seems to us that you could make that case. But we’d also suggest that setting that requirement might indicate that the way the brush is being used isn’t the manner for which it was designed. We’ll also state that the purpose of our review is one of making reasonable choices, balancing cost and capabilities.

Fiber helps prevent overeating by making you feel full and helps to block fats and cholesterol. High fiber foods include corn, avocado, beans, whole grains, soybeans, lentils, pears, oatmeal, artichoke, peas, apples and nuts.
You are correct that there’s no evidence that different brush heads will clean your teeth better, but we think having a range of available brush heads matters in so far as personal preference is concerned. You brush your teeth twice a day every day, so you probably want the brush head to feel comfortable.
Plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth is basically inevitable. Even if you brush and floss regularly, it still happens. As stains, dirt, grime, and old food build up on your teeth, it feeds naturally occurring oral bacteria that secrete acids that cause enamel demineralization.
Several weeks ago the base unit’s UV light ceased working. While the base unit was still charging the handle just fine, it was no longer cleaning it. I received a new replacement only after sending my existing unit back. I would have liked to have continued using the original unit while I waited for the new one to arrive, but that was a minor inconvenience.
The Sonicare 2 Series isn’t without perks, though. When you first start using it, the Sonicare starts off with lower vibrations in order to ease you through the adjustment experience. Our tester appreciated this and told us “the fact that it gently eases into cleaning at full force over 14 sessions makes the experience feel more thoughtful.” We agree, and appreciate that the Sonicare focuses on getting you more comfortable with a proper brushing experience.
The fluid forces that were generated by the sonic toothbrush were able to produce the following cleaning effects in the listed time frames. 58% plaque reduction at 5 seconds, 63% plaque reduction at 10 seconds, 76% plaque reduction at 15 seconds.

(b) Use Periogen when brushing by applying a scoop to a cup of warm water add some natural or simple toothpaste to your toothbrush stir the toothbrush in the warm mixture and brush repeat again until satisfied.
Since your entry-level associate’s degree program gives you the practical skills to work as a hygienist, a bachelor’s completion program will focus primarily on teaching you leadership skills and familiarize you with evidence-based practice and public health dentistry.
Purchase a UV toothbrush sanitizer.  These nifty gadgets work by combining steam with dry heat to sanitize your toothbrush.  However if you don’t want to shell out the money, studies show that soaking your toothbrush in Listerine works almost just as well.
String cords, on the other hand, are hard to get around your finger and they often rip while flossing. Not to mention, sometimes it is quite difficult to reach the rear teeth of your mouth. However, if you have tight space between your teeth, no toothbrush will do the job as efficiently as a flossing cord.
Hi, I am currently a high school student who is interested in pursuing the career of a dental hygienist. I wanted to know if there are any health benefits with this career for example retirement benefits, paid vacations, medical benefits ect..?
We agree that the Sensonic is a good brush, hence we have included it on this page. But we’ve given it a lesser positioning because this page is specifically about Sonicare toothbrushes and ciphering through their line up.
Flossing helps remove debris and interproximal dental plaque, the plaque that collects between two teeth. Dental floss (or dental tape) helps clean these hard-to-reach tooth surfaces and reduces the likelihood of gum disease and tooth decay.
To follow through with our car analogy, if you buy an economy car you can expect that it will get you to your destination. But your experiences during your trip (acceleration up hills, smoothness of ride) aren’t going to be the same as if you had bought a Cadillac.
When you first wear braces you will likely be told the importance of cleaning effectively around braces to avoid staining of when it comes to removal.  The natures of braces offers up lots of areas for small food particles to stick to.
The human body is constantly exposed to potentially harmful microbes. However, the body is normally able to defend itself against infections through a combination of passive and active mechanisms. Intact skin and mucous membranes function as a passive barrier to bacteria and other organisms. When these barriers are challenged or breached, active mechanisms such as enzymes, digestive acids, tears, white blood cells and antibodies come into play to protect the body from disease.

If you already have an electric toothbrush that performs these services, there’s no need to consider upgrading. If you use a manual brush and don’t struggle to maintain good habits, there’s little reason to consider upgrading in that case, either.
After sorting through the dental care research, which is littered with (unusable) clinical studies sponsored by the companies that make the toothbrushes being tested, we’ve learned that all you really need out of an electric toothbrush is a two-minute timer to make sure you brush your teeth for the right amount of time. Manufacturers have blown up the high end with scientific-sounding “features” like cleaning modes and UV lights; nothing proves these other features work, let alone that they are necessary (see The features you don’t need). All an electric toothbrush can really offer is automation of the brushing process by adding a timer and easing some of the physical labor, according to the professors and dentist we spoke to.
Thank you for the time you took to research and write this article. You answered every question I had and would have taken me hours to research on my own. I now know what I need and more importantly what I don’t need. Thanks again for all your help.
We’d also suggest (although it’s just conjecture on our part) that Sonicare technology of yesteryear carried forward (which is what this brush represents) may offer design and build-quality advantages over newer “economy” models (2 Series, 3 Series) that seem to have only been designed as cheaper Sonicare alternatives.
The battery will last around 2 weeks if used twice a day with the Clean mode. We only tested the other modes briefly to see what the difference in power was. Considering that Clean was the hardest mode of the 3, we can assume battery will last the same or longer if used with the other 2 modes. Having said that, it takes 24 to fully charge the battery. That is on average 8 hours longer than other more advanced Sonic toothbrushes.
Baking soda, also called sodium bicarbonate, is a great home remedy for removing plaque. It neutralizes acids in the mouth, thereby reducing the amount of harmful bacteria. It also helps whiten and brighten your pearly whites.
Just a quick note to say how happy I am with your products. I first heard of them on a blog and was so inspired by the raving review that I decided to try them myself. And glad I am I did, they are so good I cannot imagine brushing with toothpaste ever again, love the fresh and clean feeling I get from just TWO drops of your HealThy Mouth Blend.
Tartar control toothpaste. There are specialized toothpastes on the market that are specifically designed to control tartar buildup. Some of them also contain triclosan, an antibiotic that can kill off cavity-causing bacteria.
Your product will be shipped to its final destination to arrive in 2 business days or faster. If your order is placed before the 11 a.m. PST cutoff time, then it will ship that day and arrive 2 business days later. If your order is placed after the 11 a.m. PST cutoff time, we will do our best to process it the same day but may need an extra day.
Your toothbrush can become a breeding ground for germs, which is one reason why you ought to change it every 3 months. However, germs multiply in minutes, not months, and need to be cleaned between swaps. How do you keep your toothbrush clean? Here are some ideas.
Cons: How cheap my boss can be, he doesn’t ever want to spend money on equipment for the office. The commute to work is horrendous. And the stress level is so high because it is a very fast paced office.
The only downside of our Oral-B pick is that it comes with a somewhat strange and overactive brush head with two moving parts. Fortunately, Oral-B offers a wide variety of brush heads that are generally more affordable than those from Sonicare. If you choose to buy the Pro 1000 brush, we suggest planning on buying a different set of brush heads in the very near term, even before you will naturally need a replacement. (Brush heads should be replaced every three months.)
The effectiveness of this type of cleansing generally has to do with the amplitude of the brush head (the distance, up or down, it travels on each stroke) and also its frequency (number of strokes per minute). Sonic toothbrushes characteristically are very efficient tooth scrubbers (see below).
Im about to start Dental Hygienist school. But i saw some from saying that DH is not a good idea, i wont find a job, i will have to depend of the dentist for everything, i will have to work in different places to get hours working. im worried.
In 2009, Fiala co-authored a paper that showed how curcuminoids, substances found in the spice turmeric, enhanced the surface binding of amyloid beta to macrophages and that vitamin D strongly stimulated the uptake and absorption of amyloid beta in macrophages.
This is where the compact brush heads come in.  Smaller in size, they cover less tooth surface area when in the mouth, but they are easier to move and manipulate in tighter spaces or harder to reach areas such as the back teeth.
If you have braces — pay attention to the heads selection. I grabbed a pack of round “floss action” ones, but turned out instruction explicitly recommends against using them with braces. Specialized heads for braces seem to not be available around here, so I guess I’ll stick with “default” ones for now.
Periodontal therapy is a continuous cycle requiring regular evaluation and maintenance to optimise treatment outcomes. The treatment is normally carried out by a dental hygienist or oral health therapist, but involves all members of the dental team and can include specialists throughout the course of care. There are six phases undertaken by dental professionals when undertaking periodontal therapy, which are as follows;[8]
Cleaning your teeth properly twice a day for 2 minutes each time is the most important part here.  Our full guide explains how to brush your teeth with an electric toothbrush as a poor teeth cleaning approach is more damaging than the incorrect brush head. The reality is each brush head can just give that extra bit of focus in achieving and assisting oral health care goals.
However, you can Bass brush this surface if you use just the tip of your brush rather than try to fit the whole brush head laying on its side in your mouth.  Using just the front tip of your Bass brush, wiggle the bristles into the gum line along these few front teeth where it’s difficult to get the whole brush head angled correctly.
Toothbrushing plays an important everyday role for personal oral hygiene and effective plaque removal. Appropriate toothbrush care and maintenance are also important considerations for sound oral hygiene. The ADA recommends that consumers replace toothbrushes approximately every 3–4 months or sooner if the bristles become frayed with use.
This lower model usually sells for less than $30 and it can be a pretty decent first electric toothbrush. Considering your hand is tired and ready to make the switch from manual. Because it is priced much lower than any of the Oral-B Pro series, the Vitality does not come with the 3D cleaning action technology. Instead, it comes with the 2D technology which includes oscillation and rotation modes, but it lacks the pulsating one.
