New Sonicare Powerup Brush Heads |

The 7000 comes with a lot of different modes and different heads, and it gets a little confusing as to which head to use with which mode. You can damage your teeth if you don’t know what you’re doing. For example, I think Deep Clean with a non-sensitive bristles head could be too much.
There is a vast demand of the dental materials among the medical products from the past decade. The analytical data and results of these products during their post-market research can be recorded as articles in Oral Health & Dental management.
It’s equipped with a KidTimer that’s designed to get your kid accustomed to brushing for the 2 minutes, as recommended by dentists. Over 90 days it gradually increases the time of brushing until it reaches 2 minutes.
Oral health can be both a benchmark for, and a determinant of, the quality of life. Currently, for example, people in the United States who are 85 years old can expect to have at least another 5 years of life, but more important than the length of life span will be the quality of life that can be afforded to individuals in those later years. In the United States over the past 20 years, the oral health of older adults has improved considerably, from that of a generation that was predominantly edentulous to one in which each individual in that age group has an average of 20 teeth.
MODERN TECHNOLOGY – Black Series brings toothbrushes into modern times with its built in enhanced features. We have bought two and they lasted less than a year. Customer service was no help and it is a shame because this is the best toothbrush and I have recommended it to many. They should honor their product.
Latest electric toothbrushes product

Bought these refills head for my Oral-b Pro 7000 series electric toothbrush. Previously, I was using Oral-B Cross Action Brush Head. I’ve been using this for a week and it’s great. Teeth feels clean after every brush. I couldn’t go back to traditional brush! I was a bit concern about getting fakes, but this is sold directly from Amazon. I checked the head and packaging but couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary to tell me it may be fake. So far I’m happy and my teeth are happy with this purchase. If you find this review helpful, please click ‘helpful’ button at the end of this product review. Thanks!

Life expectancy at birth—an often-used and reliable measure of population health—is the average number of years a group of people born in a given year are expected to live if mortality at each age were to remain constant in the future (WHO, 2010). Poverty has a major impact on global trends in life expectancy at birth. Life expectancy is higher among high-income countries than in most countries with low- and middle-income economies (World Bank, 2007). Although average global life expectancy at birth has risen considerably, from 46 years in 1950 to 67 years in 2006, some parts of the world, including sub-Saharan Africa, have actually seen a decline (Burke and Marlin, 2008). Some of these inequalities are quite striking: Life expectancy at birth in high-income countries is nearly twice that of the poorest nations. Viewed from this perspective, interventions to reduce oral health inequalities have the best chance of success when linked with efforts to improve life expectancy and overall health through prevention of diseases and disability, improving access to safe water, sanitation, adequate nutrition, and health care.
While serious in itself, the trouble of periodontal disease doesn’t stop at the gum line. Researchers have observed that people with poor oral health have other medical problems.17 Scientists know that periodontal disease contributes to pathologic inflammatory processes throughout the body. Since chronic inflammation has been linked with a host of problems including cancer and heart disease, it is easy to see the connection between periodontal inflammation and the chronic diseases of aging.3,14,18,19
Cost keeps many people away from the dentist, especially older adults. The problem: Avoiding preventive dental care will only lead to more extensive and expensive procedures later on. Furthermore, the severity of gum disease increases with age. As many as 23 percent of adults between the ages of 65 and 74 have severe gum disease, while people of all ages at the lowest socioeconomic level have the most severe gum disease, putting low-income seniors at risk, according to the CDC.

Evidence shows that there may be differences in the quantity and nature of service providers when these are classified by race/color groups [46]. These racial inequalities have also been previously identified in oral healthcare services. The use of public healthcare services was different among dark-skinned blacks (56.8%), light-skinned blacks (53.3%), and whites (41.6%) [47], as was also verified in the present study. In the United States, results have also shown that the dark-skinned black population more commonly seeks out public healthcare services, while the white population more often uses private healthcare services, data which has remained unchanged over time [48, 49]. The determining social factors can explain part of the worse access to and lesser use of oral healthcare services by the dark-skinned black population in general. The race may be considered a limiting factor for the use of oral healthcare services for the elderly as well, given that for dark-skinned black elderly people, the chance of never having gone to the dentist is more than twice that for the white population, and even if needing a prosthesis or if presenting pain, the difficulty in using public healthcare services does not diminish [50]. The Brazilian Unified Health System, in line with governmental initiatives to reduce social exclusion, has been playing its role to care for those who most need public healthcare services, thus justifying the principle of equality. Historically and most often poor, dark-skinned black populations [51] in the Brazilian reality tend to use public healthcare services more often.
At first glance it may not be obvious, but brush heads lose stiffness and gradually wear down over months of normal use. Our blue reminder bristles fade to white and help you recognize when it’s time for a replacement. For optimal results, replace your brush head every three months.
Lastly, we read a lot of articles from the American Dental Association and other independent oral health organizations, such as the Cochrane Collaboration. This helped us trim down our initial list of 107 electric toothbrushes and 38 manufacturers, down to 52 models from 16 different brands. Out of that number, we were able to pick 7.
If you want an electric toothbrush with all the bells and whistles, you need the Oral-B 6000. This toothbrush is ideal for users who want real-time feedback on their dental hygiene. The toothbrush syncs to a mobile app using Bluetooth technology. It boasts five powerful settings and a round, CrossAction head that helps get between teeth and cleans the surface of each individual tooth. A pressure sensor also ensures you don’t over brush your teeth and gums, causing unnecessary damage.

I have to say that this is an incredible electric tooth brush. I love the fact that it comes with two heads, flossers, a tongue scraper, etc! Not only do you receive all of that, but the product itself keeps my teeth and gums feeling super clean and smooth. When you use all of the products, you will feel as if you just walked out of the dentist’s office with the cleanest teeth and freshest breath!!
Although the expectations for what older individuals want and can afford in dental care can and do vary widely, there are also commonalties. Many health problems—both oral and systemic—are more likely to occur in this population. How are these problems recognized and diagnosed? How are they managed? What are the specific dental treatment needs of the elderly, and how is dental treatment planning shaped by the characteristics of aging? These questions are the focus of this chapter.
So that you can have fewer dental and health problems, you and the dental professionals can create a unique program of home care, products, (like which toothbrush to use), and dental services that address your particular risk factors.
The story of driving hours to get your child into a dentist is not unique to Minnesota. Dental therapists will expand access for the roughly 40% of publicly insured kids in VT who didn’t see a dentist last year.
As brushing becomes a routine habit, one of simple muscle memory, we tend to multitask while brushing; i.e. checking our email on a smartphone or performing a chore outside of the bathroom. The automation of an electric toothbrush can help us in this case. However, the bells and whistles of an electric toothbrush such as bluetooth connectivity, or various settings such as “whitening” or “sensitive” ultimately distract from proper habits and technique. Ultimately an electric toothbrush should lead to better oral health with less effort and vibratory and oscillatory movement on your part.
No action should be taken solely on the contents of this program. Always consult your dentist or qualified oral health professional on any matters regarding your health or on any opinions expressed in this program.
How useful these features are, entirely depends on what you want from your toothbrush. But if all you want is to experience the best clean that Sonicare has to offer then you will be just fine with the entry-level model.
As the son of a dentist (sounds bad, doesn’t it!) I can attest to people not brushing enough… I saw this many times, self-reported from patients. The timer helps, but I don’t believe that this is the only factor.
The cam and gear unit is the clever part of an electric toothbrush. It converts the high-speed rotary (spinning) motion of the brush’s electric motor into reciprocating (back-and-forth) brushing motion that cleans your teeth more effectively. The cam and gear works a bit like this very simplified animation (right). The red motor is always rotating in the same direction at high speed, but the blue and black cam and crank convert that rotation into lower-speed, back-and-forth vibration. So, as the blue cam turns, the black crank pulls first one way and then the other, moving the brush head rapidly from side to side.
Thumbs down for electric toothbrush: BBC News, 21 January 2003. Dental researchers find that electric toothbrushes are generally no better than manual ones, though rotating-oscillating brushes seem to work best.
Most importantly, we must ensure that health and education partners work together with young people to raise awareness of good oral health and that they are fully informed of the impact of smoking and alcohol on oral health, particularly in relation to oral cancer.
Ultimately a TriZone series brush comes only with a TriZone brush head whereas a Pro series brush will normally come with any brush head other than a TriZone. The motion of the TriZone brush head is different to the other Pro series brush heads. TriZone is more like a traditional manual brush compared to the more advanced and arguably better oscillating rotating brush head.
Rinse the toothbrush completely. After an hour has passed, remove your toothbrush head from the bleach and water solution. Rinse the toothbrush completely under running water. Make sure you get out any traces of bleach as it is not safe to use a toothbrush with bleach residue stuck on.[4]
This is the first time I buy these and its not my last. I’ve been nervous because there are so expensive everywhere else but I toke a chance and order these wow!! what a great product. Thank you for all the reviews in the past and I will continue to buy!
Some brands even go as far as installing Bluetooth connectivity to your brush which allows you to track your brushing habits through an app. It may not be encouraging for adults but it’s a great way to help children get used to brushing their teeth.

Because of its fully automated design, your kid does not have to count strokes manually whilst using this toothbrush. It does so automatically. It also cleans faster and better than most manual models and is good at neutralizing bad breath.
Dental sealants can reduce child tooth decay by more than 70 percent, estimates the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This is why several states have implemented school-based programs to provide sealants to children from low-income families who are at risk for cavities. Such programs identify a target market within a school district to meet the needs of children who are less likely to receive private dental care.

Using a SmartSeries toothbrush as intended requires discipline (remembering to take your phone to the bathroom) and courage (the bathroom is a dangerous place for phones), but really there’s no need for either if you have a SmartGuide by the sink. Unfortunately, US consumers don’t have a choice, as the Pro 5000 doesn’t come with a SmartGuide. The little peripheral is included with both UK models, however.
Pearl Enterprises offers the comfort and convenience of a familiar brushing motion similar to what you would experience with a traditional manual toothbrush, but Removes 100% more plaque than a regular toothbrush.
There is no saturation point for teeth-cleaning products, which makes something like Goby all that more relevant for modern standards. Each brush head is designed with precision, boasting soft bristles that have been examined “at microscopic level” to guarantee quality brushing. The soft-touch handle is comforting to clutch in hand and is made from smooth materials for quick risibility. That means less Colgate buildup. Keep the device housed in the USB charging shell for clutter-free charging. Goby’s also engineered the device to require no more than two charges per month for optimal performance.

The opportunity presents itself for health-promoting dental practices in England to be giving universal, unambiguous advice to all patients, including those with dental disease and those most at risk of developing disease. This toolkit is as valuable to oral health promoters and public health practitioners working to reduce inequalities in oral health with whole communities, half of which may never present themselves to dentists, unless for emergency treatment.
Finger toothbrushes can seem a lot less intimidating to toddlers than regular-sized toothbrushes do. If your toddler has been resistant to all of the other toothbrushes you’ve tried to introduce, go back to the beginning and introduce a non-threatening finger toothbrush.
We spent 10 weeks reading through medical journals, researching online and speaking to manufacturers and dental professionals. As a result, we made up a solid list of rotary and sonic toothbrushes to test, rate and review.
“The idea of a toothbrush is to remove plaque and to stimulate the gums,” explains John Ictech-Cassis, DDS, DMD, clinical associate professor at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. “Most toothbrushes will keep the teeth clean if you know how to use them.”
I got this toothbrush as a gift for someone, so I was hoping that it would look as good as the pictures. It looks great in person, came with a charge right out of the box. It is super simple to use, you literally press a button and it lights up the setting that it is on. The little cup that is included is nice, but plastic instead of glass. I love that it came with two brush heads so that they don’t have to go out any buy new ones any time soon. It is super high quality and comparable to much more expensive tooth brushes.
Experts agree that you’ll generally want to stick with small heads whether you’re a child or an adult, because lowering the surface area of contact with the brush is a good way to prevent over-brushing and enamel degradation.
While it’s known that people with diabetes are more prone to gum disease, surprising new studies suggest that serious gum disease may actually contribute to diabetes as it affects blood glucose control. The Canadian Diabetes Association says, “Because periodontal disease is an infection, bacteria produce toxins that affect the carbohydrate metabolism in individual cells. It is also thought that the host response to periodontal bacteria can increase insulin resistance and, therefore, blood glucose levels.” This two-way link is a wake-up call to take care of your teeth, especially since the incidence of diabetes is rising.

It has been known since the 1930s that poor nutrition enhances the toxicity of fluoride. As discussed below, nutrient deficiencies have been specifically linked to increased susceptibility to fluoride-induced tooth damage (dental fluorosis), bone damage (osteomalacia), neurotoxicity (reduced intelligence), and mutagenicity. The nutrients of primary importance appear to be calcium,
This is not the Phillips product that is substantially more expensive, but it works well. I was worried about the brush wearing out too quickly or losing shape or falling off. I have used for more three months and the brush still looks good. It does a good job and my mouth feels I just came from my cleaning for the dentist office. It is not a regular tooth brush and it gets some getting used to it. I wish the timer was such that you could disable it when you did not want to use it.
Featuring an advanced dual action technology, the cleaning power of this Spinbrush Pro toothbrush in impressive. Using its circular oscillating head, it spins back and forth to clean and polish the enamel. It also cleans teeth thoroughly and fights plaque without irritating people. You do not need a teeth whitening kit or a special type of toothpaste for this product to work well.
An electric one can cover a larger area faster, so you clean more surfaces in the same amount of time. When you brush by hand, you make about 300 strokes per minute. Compare that with the thousands — in some cases tens of thousands — of strokes per minute a power one makes.
Two of the included research projects [65, 66, 92–94] assessed strategies to manage responsive behaviors related to oral care (Table 2). The first research project [66, 92–94] assessed these strategies in conjunction with oral health education of care staff. In the second study [65], the trained research team delivered the intervention instead of the care team. The other two studies [91, 95] excluded residents with a history of responsive behaviors to oral care, but focused on strategies to enable and motivate nursing home residents to perform their own oral care. One set of strategies identified involved a modification of the physical environment (e.g., visual cuing/reinforcement by using colored items, mirrors, reminders; placing items within the reach of residents; using ergonomic tooth brushes; or move the over-bed table oral care can be carried out easier). Another set of strategies focused on instructions to staff on how to overcome residents’ cognitive or non-cognitive deficits (e.g., teaching staff how to use a diagram to prompt resident; teaching staff about residents’ preserved abilities and how to elicit them; or teaching staff that a resident may need cues to initiate and stop tasks). A third set of strategies included task focused or social communication, full physical assistance or redirection. As Table 2 shows, there was a large variety of strategies directed at addressing oral care related responsive behaviors.
CDC promotes community water fluoridation by supporting state and local water fluoridation efforts through monitoring, training, and technical assistance, and develops and disseminates communication tools about community water fluoridation for key audiences. (Strategy 2-A)
If you’re set to White mode an extra 40 seconds is added to the regulation two minutes so you can focus on the visible front teeth to remove stains. Deep Clean mode takes three minutes. (Strangely the app introduces itself at first use by stating that the Clean mode takes three minutes rather than the two it actually does take.)
Get enough fluoride. Regular use of fluoride toughens the enamel, making it harder for acid to penetrate. Although many towns require tap water to be fluoridated, others don’t. If your water supply is not fluoridated or if your family uses purified water, ask your dentist for fluoride supplements. Most toothpastes contain fluoride but toothpaste alone will not fully protect a child’s teeth. Be careful, however, since too much fluoride can cause tooth discoloration. Check with your dentist before supplementing.
The Braun 1000 (and Canadian 2000 model) oscillate 8800 times per minute and pulsate 20,000 times per minute. The 3000, 4000, and 5000 models oscillate at the same rate but pulsate at 40,000 per minute. There are some that say that the 40,000 pulsations act similar to Sonicare’s 31,000 micro-vibrating sweeps, that clean beyond where the toothbrush comes in contact with your teeth…by spraying water, toothpaste and saliva between teeth etc. The 20,000 pulsations are theoretically less effective than the 40,000 pulsations in this respect.

While the oral-B Vitality brushes well enough we felt that the slower brushing speed and “2D” brushing just didn’t remove plaque as efficiently as the next model up. But if you just want a budget electric toothbrush then you could do much worse.
Too many people mistakenly believe that they need to see a dentist only if they are in pain or think something is wrong, but they’re missing the bigger picture. A dental visit means being examined by a doctor of oral health capable of diagnosing and treating conditions that can range from routine to extremely complex.
Dampen your cloth with your bleach and water solution. To clean the body of your toothbrush, you should also use your bleach and water solution. Dip a cloth or cotton pad in the solution. Then, swab your toothbrush’s body with the solution to remove any stuck on toothpaste residue or grime from the bathroom.[5]

The top performers in our cleaning test were the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 and the Oral-B Pro 5000, both earning a score of 9 out of 10. The Pro 5000 comes standard with the Oral-B CrossAction head and is marketed as having up to 48,800 movements per minute. As you can see, there is a noticeable difference between the visible plaque, before and after brushing.
With the creation of the Unified Health System, and later with the National Oral Health Policy, it has therefore become essential to analyze the characteristics associated with the type of service used by the adult population, given that oral healthcare services must be well-structured to attend to the existing demand. In this sense, studying the factors associated with the use of dental services can provide the knowledge necessary to understand the reasons why individuals seek out public services and the formulation of more appropriate public policies for the present-day reality.
“Oral hygiene intervention is beneficial and cost-effective in the overall improvement of maternal oral health and may have a positive impact on systemic health,”3 she argues. “Pregnancy gingivitis can be prevented and/or treated with regular professional care and an at-home oral-care routine that includes products that fight plaque and gingivitis.” As examples, she mentions Oral-B power brushes and the brand’s Pro-Expert antibacterial toothpaste which contains stabilised stannous fluoride.
Oral-B Glide Floss Picks are easy to use and provide a more complete clean. They combine the silky-smooth texture of Glide floss with the ease of a pick. Glide Floss Picks slide more easily in tight spaces and effectively help remove plaque and food particles between teeth and just below the gum line vs. brushing alone.
No. This is an error. The number of eligible schools with a sealant program (page 8 of NOFO and second bulleted item on activity 3 on page 11) includes all elementary and middle schools (grades 1 through 8) where 50% or more of student are on the Free and Reduced Meal Program with a sealant program. Applicants do not need to address the guideline noting that rural schools are eligible if their school district has a median income that is at or below 235% of the federal poverty level.
According to information, the incident occurred while Vidya Prasanna was brushing her teeth in a playful mood and tripped on terrace floor of her house. When the parents failed to remove the broken piece of toothbrush with pliers, it got stuck. They rushed her to Parvathipuram Area Hospital where the duty doctor gave her sedative and removed it without surgery.
I used to have an electric toothbrush, but after having bought this Kolibree toothbrush, I can say that it’s much more than that. The combination of the toothbrush + the app on my iPhone really changes my brushing habit (making me realize it was not done properly btw), and especially the brushing habits of my kids who now enjoy brushing their teeth like they never did before!
And out of the many Sonicare models available, the best bet for gum trouble is the Philips Sonicare 2 Series Plaque Control toothbrush. Like all Sonicare brushes, the sonic cleaning action drives fluid between the teeth and under the gum line to break up and remove more plaque than regular toothbrushes, yet the brush is gentle enough to use on orthodontics, implants, veneers, and sensitive teeth. The slim, angled neck makes it easy to reach way back in your mouth, and the timer lets you know when two minutes are up. In fact, the brush automatically turns itself off.

Another evaluation is to simply compare the bristles of the head you’re using to a new one to see if they seem noticeably splayed or damaged. Brushing with too much pressure tends to wear out brush heads quicker.

My dentist office took my dental insurance card and researched what my insurance would pay for annually. Isn’t it funny that they decided I need 4 regular cleanings and 2 deep cleanings (which is exactly the total cleanings my insurance covered)and they wanted to schedule the cleanings weekly for 6 weeks.
This is one of Oral-B’s high-end level electric toothbrushes. As such it comes with a lot of shiny and gadget-like options that are meant to make brushing a fun activity. As a matter of fact, this model is so advanced, it comes with its own app available for iOS and Android. Bluetooth connectivity allows the user to track their daily usage and get real-time feedback. The Focused Care feature, as Oral-B call it, is meant to aid users to implement the specific brushing instructions given by their dentist.

Many researchers have dedicated themselves to studying the population’s use of healthcare services [12–21]. As regards Brazilian studies, the research has focused on the use of healthcare services in general [22–24] and in the elderly population [25–27], the regular use of dental services [25, 28–30], the use of dental services due to pain [31], and the characterization of the use of dental services [32–34], without highlighting the type of service. Only two studies were found in the literature with outcomes similar to the dental services (public or private) used by the adult population, illustrating that there are still unanswered questions in this theme [16, 35].

Regular toothbrushes get the job done when you use them the right way, says Kimberly Harms, DDS, a spokeswoman for the American Dental Association. The problem is many of us don’t use them for the recommended 2 minutes, or get to every tooth.
The management of periodontitis in pregnancy is based on early diagnosis and deep root scaling. The authors of one RCT demonstrated that deep root scaling reduced the risk of birth before 37 weeks’ gestation (preterm birth), with a risk reduction of 0.5 (confidence interval [CI], 0.2 to 1.3). For birth before 35 weeks’ gestation (very preterm birth), the risk reduction was 0.2 (CI, 0.02 to 1.4) for women with periodontitis.21 In another RCT of deep root scaling combined with patient education, regular plaque removal, and routine chlorhexidine rinses, researchers also noted a reduction in the incidence of preterm low birth weight (risk reduction, 0.18; CI, 0.05 to 0.6).22 These studies, in addition to a recent U.S.-based RCT that found no benefit of treatment,20 reported no harm to the mother or fetus from treatment of maternal periodontal conditions.

A great alternative to the original. After seeing Oral-B major price hike, I began looking for alternatives and found these…what a deal! Truthfully I like these better because they’re a bit firmer bristles. We’ll be buying these again for sure!
Luckily, Blippi, created by his alter-ego Stevin John, had a teeny-tiny sliver of time between takes to talk to Reader’s Digest about dental care for kids. (Don’t forget: Medically trained experts agree dental care for kids is best begun with a simple, appropriately sized manual toothbrush.)

It stopped working this morning. I’ve noticed the lagging of toothbrush head spinning for nearly a week. Finally, I decided to try to not leave the handle on charger overnight last night after brushing my teeth. This morning, the toothbrush stopped working before the 2 minutes timer came on.

The affordable Oral-B Pro 1000 makes taking good care of your teeth easy. You can pay more for additional features, but according to the experts, there’s no need to—this simple, entry-level brush cleans your teeth as well as any of the many more expensive brushes.
Poor oral health also affects children’s ability to learn in school and develop socially. Severe pain associated with dental caries can interfere with a child’s ability to concentrate at school and interact with other children during crucial periods of their development. The longer a person goes without seeking care for a dental issue, the more they suffer elsewhere in their lives. Lack of treatment, then, amplifies the effects of easily preventable and treatable dental caries among adults and children. Consequently, poor oral health bleeds into other aspects of well-being forcing communities into a catch-22, where a lack of resources leads to tooth decay that ultimately limits a person’s advancement towards the resources necessary to prevent tooth decay to begin with.

The new features of the Oral-B Pro 5000 SmartSeries make it stand out from other electric toothbrushes on the market. The Bluetooth connectivity, brush-head pressure sensor, and highly customizable mobile app are additional tools to help patients achieve optimal oral health. I would highly recommend this brush to patients who are looking to improve their home care.
Some brands even go as far as installing Bluetooth connectivity to your brush which allows you to track your brushing habits through an app. It may not be encouraging for adults but it’s a great way to help children get used to brushing their teeth.

Fortunately, there are models that can serve as a basis for developing a core set of oral health competencies for nondental health care professionals. For example, as discussed in Chapter 3, the University of Washington developed and implemented curriculum to train medical students about oral health that has subsequently been endorsed by the American Association of Medical Colleges (Mouradian et al., 2005). The curriculum includes competencies in five general areas: oral public health, dental caries, periodontal disease, oral cancer, and oral-systemic interactions. Similar sets of competencies have been developed or proposed for other disciplines (e.g., geriatrics and physician assistants [PAs]) and health issues (e.g., family violence) (Danielsen et al., 2006; Knox and Spivak, 2005; Partnership for Health in Aging, 2008).
Other recent paid and unbiased studies comparing the Rotating/oscillating toothbrush to the Sonic toothbrush conferred with the findings of this study,  that Rotating/oscillating electric toothbrushes do a superior job of cleaning teeth, removing plaque/tartar and preventing or reversing gingivitis.
Periodontal disease, for example, which affects the soft tissues and bone, is initiated by an increase in Porphyromonas gingivalis, which impairs your immune response, while dental caries had been causally linked to Streptococcus mutans.1 Your oral health, in turn, impacts the rest of your body, and can have a significant impact on your disease risk.
If your face or tongue is paralyzed, you may not be able to rinse your mouth. You may also not realize when you have food left in your mouth. You may bite your lip or tongue and not realize it. To keep your teeth and gums healthy, your dentist may suggest that you use a fluoride gel or saliva substitute.

High relative risk of oral disease relates to socio-cultural determinants such as poor living conditions; low education; lack of traditions, beliefs and culture in support of oral health. Communities and countries with inappropriate exposure to fluorides imply higher risk of dental caries and settings with poor access to safe water or sanitary facilities are environmental risk factors to oral health as well as general health. Moreover, control of oral disease depends on availability and accessibility of oral health systems but reduction of risks to disease is only possible if services are oriented towards primary health care and prevention. In addition to the distal socio-environmental factors, the model emphasizes the role of intermediate, modifiable risk behaviours, i.e. oral hygiene practices, sugar consumption (amount, frequency of intake, types) as well as tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption. Such behaviours may not only affect oral health status negatively as expressed by clinical measures but also impact on quality of life.
The FlexCare Platinum comes equipped with 3 brushing modes: Clean, White and Gum Care. Each cleaning mode allows the user to moderate the intensity of the brush using 3 additional levels. This further helps new users to ease into this powerful sonic toothbrush.

For patients with vomiting secondary to morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum, or gastric reflux during late pregnancy, the use of antacids or rinsing with a baking soda solution (ie, 1 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in 1 cup of water) may help neutralize the associated acid.

I do not have sensitive teeth and I love the way it makes my teeth and gums feel. Additionally, it’s fabulous for removing coffee and tea stains from your teeth. Plus, I like that one toothbrush can keep a whole family’s teeth and gums healthy and all you need is to purchase separate brush heads for everyone. It has a 2 year warranty but in my experience, they last years longer.
Organisation responsible: The Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) is commissioned by the UK Health Departments (all four for the first four surveys, England, Wales and Northern Ireland only for the last survey in the series). The latest survey, conducted in 2009, was carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on behalf of the NHS Information Centre for health and social care, in partnership with the National Centre for Social Research, and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency. The survey team also included dental experts from the Universities of Birmingham, Cardiff, Dundee, Newcastle, and University College London.
Once you notice an issue with your oral health, take immediate action to build your health back up. While it may feel embarrassing to acknowledge that your oral health has declined, this problem can affect people of any age for numerous reasons. To get your health back on track, start with these strategies.
That changes will encompass the Partnership Agreement commitment on “free dental checks” which will focus on the enhanced “oral health assessment”. This will be implemented first for older people and then extended to all, subject to review.
Everyone benefits from preventive dentistry. Children, in particular, benefit because it allows their newly developing adult teeth to come in strong and healthy. Dental sealants and topical fluoride treatments help prevent decay in your children’s teeth. If you’re an aging adult, you can benefit from preventive dentistry because it helps you to keep your real teeth.
You scrub food off of your teeth with it and you brush the icky film off of your tongue with it, but then you  do no more than rinse it and give it a perfunctory shake to clean it.  It’s your toothbrush and cleaning it thoroughly will help you get through this winter’s cold and flu season a little healthier.
Regular toothbrushes get the job done when you use them the right way, says Kimberly Harms, DDS, a spokeswoman for the American Dental Association. The problem is many of us don’t use them for the recommended 2 minutes, or get to every tooth.
However, generic measures tend to not detect the specific and nuanced problems of particular oral diseases. A generic OHQoL measure, the Oral Health Impact Profile, was found to be relatively insensitive to some aspects of DH.3,4 Accordingly, an OHQoL measure specific for the impacts of DH was developed based on interviews with people with the condition.5,6
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is committed to advancing the oral health and general well-being of all populations across the lifespan. – Useful Smartphone App: I honestly thought the app would be gimmicky, but I was completely wrong. I build software products for a living and I can tell Philips has invested significant resources into building a truly useful mobile app. It blows my mind how well the accelerometers and pressure sensors work and the useful information that it relays to improve your brushing form and tell you where you missed a spot. Brushing too hard is a real issue with electric toothbrushes since in extreme cases, it could wear your gums down, this toothbrush tells you if you are doing it too hard so you don’t have to worry! You don’t need to use the app for this though, the toothbrush has a light at the bottom that tells you if you are applying too much pressure.

The recent development is- rotating – oscillating with pulsating action. It implies- along with the rotating-oscillating action, the brush head pulsates forward and backward. The latest Braun Oral B toothbrushes use this technology. These toothbrush heads produce as high as 40000 pulses per minute. It agitates the oral fluid (water, saliva and toothpaste) to produce a non contact cleaning effect to dislodge the plaque from areas where the bristles can’t reach.

Another preventive measure that our association promotes is the use of fluoride treatments. It’s well known that New Hampshire has an aging population. Individuals with diabetes, acid reflux and heart disease often have poor dental health. The elderly are also much more susceptible to pneumonia — which can be triggered by poor oral health care — than other age groups.
My dentist tried hard to encourage me to get me take care of my teeth; nonetheless I was an adamant person who could just toss some mint into my mouth during several occasions and disappear into thin air. However, things turned haywire. I had sensitive teeth, then cavities and even after I did an expensive root canal. It was too late and my tooth was beyond repair. As painful as it was the only remaining option was tooth extraction!
Another case study published in the edition volume 8, 1997 involved 66 adults with periodontitis. Periodontitis refers to serious gum infection- inflammation around the teeth. The six months clinical comparison of oscillating-rotating (Braun Oral B) and sonic (Sonicare) toothbrushes concluded that both the toothbrushes reduced periodontitis symptoms considerably. When it comes to superiority, sonic model performed better.

I like the product very much. I just received it yesterday, but I was having trouble with the connection. The usb did not fit well into the plug provided by the product. The light did not go on, so I knew it was not cleaning the brush. I connected the usb to my cell phone charger plug and it works well. I would like the company to send me a replacement plug, so I don’t have to use my cell charger.

I’ve been using a Sonicare for 17 years but thought the round head made more sense. But, it sounded like an airplane was taking off in my mouth and the handle, being bigger around, felt clunky to me. I had to return it.  see moreof Lindy’s review
Thanks for a brilliant site. I decided for the 56€ Oral-B PRO CrossAction 2000 thanks to the information provided here. After using it for a couple of weeks I wanted to write and clarify one thing. It is mentioned on this site that one way of knowing if any model has the recommended 40k pulses/minute is that it would offer 2 speedes. If the 2000 model in fact has 40k pulses/minute it is the exception to this rule, it only has 1 speed “Daily Clean” and a second pulsing on/off speed (Gum Care) which I don’t believe counts as a speed by it self. I have not been able to find any written documentation whether it pulses with 20k or 40k and since I only have this model I cannot compare with anything else.
To begin with, the brush comes with two different selections. The basic package includes Sonicare Handle, Standard Brush Head, Mini Brush Head, Travel case, and a charger. You can usually reverse gum disease in the earlier stages, but at the later stages you can only arrest it — meaning, you won’t be able to reverse it, but you’ll be able to at least keep it where it is and stop progressing to further stages of gum disease.
A fully charged Oral-B Black 7000 SmartSeries with Bluetooth lasts for up to 10 days with regular use. To ensure that your battery is able to hold its maximum capacity, deplete the battery by using without in-between charges until it is fully discharged. Do this at least once every 6 months for best results. Units might be loud/noisy during initial setup, which should subside post regular usage.
Although it is a strange sensation at first, once you have got used to the sensation, you will be able to enjoy very clean teeth. This is because the frequency of the toothbrush movement not only loosens the debride that collect on your teeth, but it also works to break down the plaque and bacteria so that your teeth and gums can be as clean as possible.
Although consistent with the theoretical model used [8], the present study’s findings do not ensure the causal relations specified by the model, given that the databank that gave rise to the analysis resulted from a cross-sectional study. In this manner, the present study can demonstrate association but not the correct temporal sequence necessary to draw conclusions about the causal mechanisms.
Brush in small circular or tooth-wide motions. Many people brush across their teeth in large sweeping motions. However, Dr. Glassman explained “you can improve your brushing technique by using a circular motion.” Our other experts agreed, with Dr. Friedman adding, “gently move the brush back and forth in short tooth-wide strokes.” Note: the DiamondClean will actually alert you when you move past tooth-wide strokes.
In addition to the speed and design of the toothbrush, you should consider how the toothbrush cleans teeth. Electric toothbrushes will vibrate, rotate or oscillate to clean. A rotating electric toothbrush turns the bristles around in a circular pattern, similar to how you would brush your teeth using a manual toothbrush. These products help prevent gingivitis and are excellent at removing plaque and tartar from teeth. A vibrating electric toothbrush vibrates the bristles against your teeth, which breaks up plaque, cleans and polishes teeth. However, you must be careful you don’t apply too much pressure with this type of toothbrush. With an oscillating electric toothbrush, the bristles quickly move back and forth, helping you focus on the surface of each individual tooth.
Focus on eating a diet of fresh, whole foods, including grass fed meats and organic and fermented vegetables. This helps ensure you get plenty of minerals for strong bones and teeth. If needed, consider adding one or more nutritional supplements to support your oral health.
For those who don’t like regular flossing, or who have braces, water flossers can be extremely useful. They’re also great for removing stains in between cleanings. We even found a travel flosser so you can take it with you.
The goal of preventive dentistry is to prevent any pathology, cavities, infections, etc. from ever happening to any patient. It is achieved by placing the patient on a regular periodic maintenance, i.e. for periodic dental checkups. Also by ensuring the patient is mainting good oral hygiene on a regular, consistent basis.
… smoking and other types of tobacco use. In addition, there is compelling evidence to support significant benefts of tobacco use cessation with regard to various oral health outcomes. Substantial oral health benefits can be expected …
The health of your teeth and gums depends in large part on regular and correct brushing. To accomplish this, the American Dental Association recommends daily flossing and brushing twice a day. Although the toothpaste, rinses and floss you use have an impact on successful cleaning, the type of toothbrush and the brushing method you use is the most important factor. Part of choosing the right toothbrush involves evaluating the differences between an electric toothbrush vs. a manual toothbrush.
At the time of writing there are an extensive range of electric toothbrush models available from Sonicare, so it is understandable that it is not all that simple to understand which brush head is suitable for your toothbrush.

It is important for patients to discuss screening for oral cancer with their dentists. Although the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force concludes that there is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against routine screening for oral cancer, approximately 37,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year with the resultant annual death of 8,000 individuals (13, 14). Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is one of the causes of oral cancer and HPV can be transmitted through oral sex. Evidence suggests that an increase in HPV-related oral cancer exists; however, further research is warranted to understand the public health and clinical implications (15).
Being another best price Oral-B electric toothbrush, the Oral-B White Pro 1000 electric toothbrush will provide you with a clinically proven superior clean when compared to a regular manual toothbrush.  It is able to do this with these key features:

Ergonomic, Comfortable Design: This is where the whole brush becomes something unique, unlike the manual brushes. If you look at the total design, you can spot some changes. First of all, the brush head would be really small. This has been designed for extensive access to your mouth and teeth area. Also, the handle part of the toothbrush will be designed for extra grip. This way, you can be sure that you don’t push your gum beyond the healthy limit.
As for toothpaste, I recommend using nonfluoridated versions for all the reasons mentioned earlier. Also check the ingredient list for other harmful ingredients such as triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, diethanolamine, parabens and microbeads. Your safest bet is make your own toothpaste, which is both simple and inexpensive.

After 5 months of use – twice daily, the toothbrush bristles are still fully in tact and it looks almost like it was never used. I’m very pleased with it. Still, it’s time to replace as the recommended replacement time for a toothbrush is 3 to 4 months.

Toddlers are pretty easy to please. They like anything that looks cool or electronics of any kind. But even more than that, you need to pay attention to how a toothbrush will feel because if it’s painful in any way, you’ll have a fight on your hands when you try to convince your toddler to brush their teeth again.

Out from the White bristles are 2 clusters of very dark Blue coloured bristles. The formation of these bristles are wider and slightly thinner than a normal cluster and are positioned in such a way that there is a gentle arc to them.
Ninety per cent of pre-adolescents reported an impact related to oral health (6). Prevalence of dental pain was found to be about 33% among Brazilian teenagers, of whom 9% reported distressing, excruciating pain (7). Toothache leads to school absence, which is a ready indicator of children’s health. In the USA, where caries is lower than elsewhere, visits or dental problems accounted for 117 000 hours of school lost per 100 000 children (8). Because most school dental services work mainly during school hours, loss of schooling among the poor, who have higher caries rates, is high.
In keeping with IHI’s methodology for exploring new content, the first step in the collaborative was to convene a panel of experts in pediatric and perinatal dental care and quality improvement. “We did a ‘brain dump’ and realized two things were critical to creating real change,” says Jacobs. “One was to bridge the gap between medical and dental care by ensuring that physicians understand the role of oral health in good primary care, and are actively engaged in the referring all their pregnant and very young patients to the dental clinic. The other was breaking the cycle of disease transmission from mother to child.”
In terms of the health care system, up to 80% of dentists now refuse to accept Medicaid patients. For many low-income individuals, the only dental care they can receive is in the emergency room. This problem could be partially solved by allowing dental therapists to perform routine dental services (e.g., drilling and filling), which research shows they are perfectly competent to do. However, the nation’s leading dental trade organization, the American Dental Association, adamantly opposes the right of low-income patients to receive care from anyone but licensed dentists–a position that neatly aligns with the ADA’s financial self-interest.
I have had an Oral B electric toothbrush for about 10 years and follow up with my dentist and periodontist on a quarterly basis. The periodic deep cleaning performed by the periodontist when he feels necessary is a unique feeling of dental cleanliness I never experience in normal brushing. However at my last periodontist visit I noticed this toothbrush was being promoted for sale by his office. Since despite the care I was receiving I still had experienced some gum problems I was interested in further preventative care. So I discarded my old brush set and purchased this. The standard brushes with this unit were very powerful so I purchased separately the sensitive gum brush set also from Amazon.
He also created the Oral-B brand name. The first product was known as the “Oral-B 60”, because it had 60 tufts.[4] Other sizes were made with differing numbers of tufts and corresponding names.[1] Dr. Hutson sold his toothbrush business in the 1960s, and continued his San Jose periodontal practice.[1]
Dental problems in kids can also affect a child’s health and even his or her performance at school. In a study of 1,500 elementary to high school children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Los Angeles, California, 73 percent were found to have dental caries, says a study from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California. The study found a correlation between these dental issues, lower grades and increased missed school days.

All of the brush heads offer slightly different things, so it’s not really possible to say which is definitively ‘the best’. But if you’re wondering ‘is there some sort of super-duper brush head’ that you’re missing out on, the answer is no. The best head for you depends on what your needs are .
Pregnancy oral tumor (Figure 2) occurs in up to 5 percent of pregnancies and is indistinguishable from pyogenic granuloma. This vascular lesion is caused by increased progesterone in combination with local irritants and bacteria. Lesions are typically erythematous, smooth, and lobulated; they are located primarily on the gingiva. The tongue, palate, or buccal mucosa may also be involved. Pregnancy tumors are most common after the first trimester, grow rapidly, and typically recede after delivery. Management is usually observational unless the tumors bleed, interfere with mastication, or do not resolve after delivery. Lesions surgically removed during pregnancy are likely to recur.11
The purpose of an electric toothbrush is to move in such a way that the human hand cannot—making it easier for you. Manual and electric toothbrushes can be equally effective—ONLY IF the proper technique is used. Problem is, proper technique is hard and an electric toothbrush can make it a lot easier.
Many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, can affect the amount of saliva in your mouth, as can radiation treatments, chemotherapy and certain health conditions like AIDS and Sjögren’s syndrome. The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) explains that without saliva, you aren’t able to wash away harmful bacteria in your mouth; therefore, aside from causing discomfort, an extremely dry mouth can lead to bad breath, mouth sores, gum disease and a higher risk of tooth decay.

I’m not amazingly judicious about cleaning my teeth, I hardly ever go to the dentist, nor is my diet exemplary, yet I’ve had no cavities or other dental issues since starting to use electric brushes 10 years ago. That must prove something, right?
Periodontitis Untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, an inflammatory response in which a film of bacteria, known as plaque, adheres to teeth and releases bacterial toxins that create pockets of destructive infection in the gums and bones. The teeth may loosen, bone may be lost, and a bacteremia may result.
Patient evaluation and diagnosis are essential to the practice of dentistry. For too long, the mouth has been considered separate from the rest of the body. The more we study this, the more we realize all the important connections there are. Evaluation of a patient’s health status determines how systemic illnesses can modify oral, dental, and craniofacial diseases and the patient’s ability to tolerate dental treatment.[8] The health care environment, including dentistry, is evolving. The population is aging, patients are retaining their teeth, edentulism is declining, and more people with multiple chronic diseases are seeking dental care.[9] With a growing body of knowledge suggesting that the oral infection and the associated tissue inflammation may affect diseases and conditions, there is an increased emphasis on the importance of oral diseases in the context of systemic health.[10]

The purpose of the study by Listl was to describe income-related inequalities in dental service utilization by the elderly populations residing in different European countries. Listl and his team used data from the Survey of Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE Wave 2), which contains information on utilization of dental services by 33,358 individuals aged 50+ from 14 different countries, and assessed income-related inequalities in dental attendance, preventive and/or operative dental treatment. The team’s findings indicate disproportionate concentration of access to treatment among the rich elderly populations in all countries included in the study. In terms of absolute inequality, the team similarly observed significantly higher access to treatment by individuals located in the highest income group compared with peers located in the lowest income group within all countries except Italy and Czechia.

Shopping for toothbrushes has never been an easy task. This is because you will buy a toothbrush for your baby but they completely refuse to use it. You may agree with me that most kids in their tender age are least interested in brushing teeth.

Chew your way to better dental health. Chewing sugar-free gum after eating or drinking can help protect your teeth and gums, especially after eating sugary foods. Better yet, finish your meal with a cube of cheese. This can help reduce the effect of acids from food on your teeth.
Cheaper to buy in a large quantity like this. They are the real thing, they just take a little longer to ship, so make sure you order them before your old brush head is completely worn out. Get a good price this way and don’t use Chinese knock-off brushes on your teeth.

This technology allows you to connect your smartphone to your electric toothbrush to learn about your habits and how you can brush better. The smartphone application is able to provide real-time information about how you use your sonic toothbrush as well as give you instant feedback about where else you may need to brush more to encourage maximum benefits.

If you are like most people, you are reminded each morning of the millions of bacteria growing in our mouths.  After all, that’s one of the reasons we brush our teeth every morning.  But where do those germs go?  Yes, some of them go down the drain, but far too many of them remain on our toothbrushes.

Brushing your teeth is essential in maintaining good oral health, but if you’re using a dirty toothbrush, you may be doing harm while you’re doing good. The American Dental Association says that bacteria from your mouth and the environment can lurk on your brush. While they also note that there’s no sufficient evidence to support the fact that these bacteria have any adverse health effects, it’s still a wise move to clean your toothbrush to prevent germs and bacteria from getting into your mouth while brushing.
Outdated models – We avoided these not because they are out of fashion, but because they are mostly out of support. It is quite hard to find replacement parts and actual local support for models that the brands no longer manufacture.
A guy did a full-on replacement of the Oral-B’s native battery with a standard AA Eneloop. He didn’t have to do anything besides solder new leads to the battery and it worked tremendously well – in fact, the brush held its charge far better and worked more effectively with the Eneloop.
Dental hygienists work together with other dental professionals, with a higher number working at general practices with Dentists, dental therapists and oral health therapists. A smaller number work at specialist practices alongside orthodontists and periodontists. They help with the contribution of an interdisciplinary approach, aiming to provide optimum oral health care to their patients. Dental hygienists also aim to work inter-professionally to provide holistic oral health care in the best interest of their patient. Dental hygienists also offer expertise in their field and can provide a dental hygiene diagnosis, which is an integral component of the comprehensive dental diagnosis.[7]
Gum disease – if your home care routine of brushing and flossing has slipped and you have skipped your regular dental cleanings, bacterial plaque and tartar can build up on your teeth. The plaque and tartar, if left untreated, may eventually cause irreparable damage to your jawbone and support structures, and could lead to tooth loss.
We will point out that Sonicare has used the word “reminder” when naming these bristles, meaning they’re not necessarily a precise indicator. Online user comments we read typically stated that the color change signaled replacement before a full 3 months had lapsed.
An advice to the Flecare+ is to also buy the diamond clean brush heads for even a smoother cleaning feeling or even the adaptive clean brush heads (The adaptive clean heads I think are very good but those I have not tried yet). The Flexcare brush head is very good to remove tartar, but the diamond clean makes your teeth even more silky and glossy and maybe slightly more comfortable to brush with, but already the Flexcare brush head is extremely good for the silky feeling.

Pressure Sensor: A pressure sensor will notify you if you are brushing too hard, which Dr. Glassman explained “can irritate the gums, causing soreness or bleeding. Over a long period of time, this kind of heavy brushing could cause conditions such as gum recession.” Highly recommended by our experts, a pressure sensor will buzz, flash a light, or even pause brushing to let you know you need to ease up a little. In theory, a pressure sensor is great for improving technique, but sometimes it can take an excessive amount of pressure to activate them. Since this isn’t a foolproof feature, we didn’t make it a dealbreaker, but we brought in several brushes with pressure sensors across different price points to see how this feature ranked with our testers.
The Quip is a no-frills toothbrush with a single brush head style and a simple timer that indicates each 30-second interval, shutting off at the two-minute mark. This is the only brush we tested that uses replaceable batteries instead of a built-in rechargeable battery. Quip has an unusual business model—the only way to get a new brush head is through the company’s website, which encourages a subscription that sends a replacement every three months. Though you can purchase individual brush heads separately for $5 with free shipping, if you need a spare head you can’t just run to the store to get a new one. (And you’d better keep spare or rechargeable AAAs around.) The overall pricing structure is a bit confusing, and the store page defaults to the more expensive metal brushes, but toggling the interface gives you access to the slightly less expensive plastic brushes. Although the stylish design (of the more expensive metal model) and the quiet operation are both impressive, we found the vibrations to be weak. The Quip could be a nice option for someone who travels a lot and prefers the freedom of no charger, but it doesn’t have the brush head options or wide availability of our main pick.
It’s worth noting that with the recent introduction of the DiamondClean Smart, new smart brush heads have been introduced (C3 Premium Plaque Control, G3 Premium Gum Care & W3 Premium White). Whilst they fit and work on other models, the included smart chip that automatically selects the optimal cleaning mode works only with the DiamondClean Smart because it has BrushSync mode pairing. When Sonicare introduces more brushes with this mode, the new brush heads will also work with those models.
For proper dental care, it’s important to practice dental hygiene, such as regular brushing, flossing and other. But it’s just as important to have a proper brushing technique. We hope that our guide will help you with how to brush with Sonicare toothbrush properly. Brushing with an electric toothbrush, you should remember that only light pressure is required. If you press too hard, it will not make it more effective but can damage your teeth. Sonic toothbrushes are highly effective. Many dentists also recommend them as the best electric toothbrushes. Some of the top Sonicare models include Sonicare DiamondClean, Sonicare FlexCare, and Sonicare FlexCare Plus, Sonicare Series 2 HX6211.
Naturally, there are lots of online sales and deals out there which might make certain options more sensible. However, based on what I can gather from the Sonicare website and other sources the Sonicare EasyClean is the best deal because it has all the necessary features and can accept all the Snap-On brush heads. If you are looking to upgrade to some cooler features, I would opt for the FlexCare model with the UV sterilizer for brush heads. The 3 brushing modes and 2 brushing routines are identical to the 5 brushing modes of the FlexCare +, but the FlexCare is a bit easier on your wallet. Although UV sterilization of toothbrushes hasn’t been shown to make a significant difference in oral bacteria, it might hold some benefits for individuals with extremely high caries risks or aggressive gum disease since it will keep the toothbrush head a bit cleaner.
Consider a toothbrush sanitizer. While studies do not show any particular benefit to these devices, you can purchase one that has been cleared by the FDA. Toothbrush sanitizers kill up to 99.9% of bacteria on the brush. (Sterilizing means that 100% of bacteria and living organisms have been killed, and no commercial toothbrush cleaner can claim this.)
The advantage of a sonic brush is that it cleans teeth via two different methods. Beyond just conventional tooth scrubbing, it also creates a secondary cleansing action that helps to disrupt dental plaque beyond where the tips of its bristles actually touch.

The maintenance phase involves continuous care, which varies anywhere from two to six-month intervals. This maintenance phase involves both the patient and the dental hygienist to stop the disease from re-occurring, with the objective of keeping the dentition functioning for as long as possible in the oral cavity.[8]
Today’s busy lifestyles typically cause large amounts of stress that can raise hormones to an unhealthy level in the body. Factors like smoking, drinking too much and overeating also contribute to poor arterial health. All of these things together can cause weight gain and blockages in the arteries.
This was one of the most effective and entertaining brushes that we tested. Made out of white molded plastic, the Sonicare FlexCare Platinum was among the lightest brushes that we tested. The metallic control panel gives this model a very modern and sophisticated feel.
Unlike dental assistants, whose job duties must generally be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, dental hygienists perform much of their work independently, with only general supervision from a licensed dentist.

I wanted something with a pressure sensor. I like to lift heavy things at the gym and have a tendency to strong arm everything, including brushing my teeth which apparently may have contributed to some gum erosion. The current top model Sonicare (DiamondClean Platinum) does not have a pressure sensor. However, the FlexCare Platinum Connected does come with a pressure sensor. Oral-B models from the 1000 up have a pressure sensor. Based on price, I elected to compare the Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected to the current top model Oral-B, Genius Pro 8000.
High ”bad” cholesterol and low ”good” cholesterol. High levels of ”bad” cholesterol, or low-density lipoprotein (LDL), are major contributors to arterial plaque formation. But that doesn’t tell the whole story. Everyone also has ”good” cholesterol, or high-density lipoprotein (HDL), circulating in the blood. HDL is believed to remove some of the bad cholesterol from plaque in clogged arteries and transport it back to the liver, where it is eliminated.

These are great affordable replacement brush for your Sonicare electric tooth brush! They fit and work well.. the gap in between the brush and handle is normal for moving components.. the bristle on brush are soft and has a replacement reminder when the color of brush fades over time.. the different color on the base of the brush is very helpful so you don’t get it mixed with someone else toothbrush!

I’m not a chemist so I’m not sure how much baking soda would be required to cancel out the effectiveness of the vinegar but since my recipe calls for just 2 tsp of baking soda there’s probably still enough vinegar left to do some disinfecting. The baking soda addition does add the bubbles which can assist is removing grime from the toothbrush. If someone is really, really concerned about maximizing the disinfecting aspect of the mixture, they could simply place them in the vinegar first and then add the baking soda later. This works for us and our family. We are rarely sick and have had no problems at all. There was a study put out by the University of Florida saying that the mixture was an effective cleaning agent but I can’t seem to find it anymore. Thanks for your comment, Serena.
Dental plaque, also known as dental biofilm, is a sticky, yellow film consisting of a wide range of bacteria which attaches to the tooth surfaces and can be visible around the gum line. It starts to reappear after the tooth surface has been cleaned, which is why regular brushing is encouraged.[1] A high-sugar diet encourages the formation of plaque. Sugar (fermentable carbohydrates), is converted into acid by the plaque. The acid then causes the breakdown of the adjacent tooth, eventually leading to tooth decay.[11]
Thanks for your very helpful articles on the Sonicare models. They were really useful for cutting through the fat so to speak. I ended up purchasing the series 3 gum health. Unfortunately I didn’t realize that the user can’t disable smart timer or quadpacer on this model if desired (others with mode button can disable quad pacer). I also didn’t realize that the toothbrush shuts off after two minutes (smarttimer). Not sure if i just missed out on this, or if it needs to be added. Not a huge problem; i may actually need these timers to brush properly for at least two minutes.
Please be careful about re-spreading misleading information. I understand where you receive the information, but go into a highschool or college and they can verify your source is incorrect. I would hate to see people get sick because this does not work.
To us, battery isn’t an insignificant consideration. But if a particular model met our needs in all other ways, we’d let this one slip by. This page discusses the subject of battery options in greater detail.
However, and once again like with the 2 Series, comments we’ve read on large retailer websites seem to suggest that first-time buyers tend to be relatively satisfied with this brush (as compared to using their manual one).
The best Oral-B models – Our narrative outlining how to figure out which model makes the best choice for you. It covers Oral-b features, which of them we think are important to have, and which models seem to offer a reasonable manifestation of them.
There is research that compliments both types of power motored brushes. If we consider the amount of movement and coverage of brushing as decisive factors, then the sonic toothbrush sounds like the right choice. A 12-week clinical trial has demonstrated the sonic type brushes can reach about 1/8 of an inch deeper than other rotary brushes. This reason and the above mentioned fluid dynamics should be good enough to proclaim the sonic toothbrush as the winner.
These are great replacement toothbrush head for my Sonicare brush handle. I was using the oem brush head from sonicare for the past 2 years until I realized that there were cheaper alternatives online. I decided to give these a try and they function the exact same as the sonicare ones.Out of the box, the brush heads come with all the colored rings and brush head covers like the real ones do.
Sonic technology in electric toothbrushes has become more popular over the years as it provides such great cleaning results. First, it was introduced to the market by Sonicare. Since the first release, the technology, and the brush heads have dramatically advanced. Now they are considered the most advanced toothbrushes on the market. Below you will find the answer. If you’re looking for a Sonicare, you probably want the best Sonicare toothbrush on the market.

During the research process, we spoke with several experts on the subject of dentistry, including dental school faculty at leading research universities, a professional dentist, and a consumer advisor appointed by the American Dental Association (ADA), which confers a Seal of Acceptance on dental care products that seek the certification and meet a set of agreed-upon criteria.
Like an associate’s degree, you’ll have to complete prerequisite coursework for a bachelor’s program. While many of your classes—dental anatomy, radiology, dental materials—will be the same whether you earn an associate’s or bachelor’s, the latter will allow you to dig deeper into the profession.
If you have blood in your toothpaste after brushing, you may have early symptoms of gingivitis. Left untreated, it can develop into gum disease and may even have wider health implications. Caught early, gingivitis is easy to treat and prevent with your daily routine.
The most common reasons for ecosystem disruption are the ecological factors discussed in the environment section. The bacteria that exhibit the most fit plasticity for the change in environment dominate the given environment. Often, this leads to opportunistic pathogens which may cause dental caries and periodontal disease. Pathogenic bacteria that have the potential to cause dental caries flourish in acidic environments; those that have the potential to cause periodontal disease flourish in a slightly alkaline environment.[17][not in citation given]
Update: Although in this recipe we used vegetable glycerin and almost-all commercial toothpastes use glycerin, many natural dentists say this glycerin film on teeth can prevent the teeth from being able to remineralize and therefore, it might weaken your teeth.  Talk to a natural dentist to see if you should add glycerin to the mouthwash.
The 2 Series Sonicare is without a doubt consumers’ top pick. With over 4,000 positive reviews on Amazon and a 4.3 rating, this older model will not be extinct anytime soon. Especially now that it is available in 5 different colors, including a “white on ultra-coral” that I am itching to simply call “pink”. But, let’s leave color definitions to Philips.

Serrapeptase is a very powerful digestive enzyme in digesting any tissue that is not alive, like plaque. It can also reduce scar tissue and blood clots. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. This enzyme does not naturally occur in foods, but can be processed into a supplement through plant fermentation.
THANK YOU, vey much for your information which was very significant to me and it should also be for other persons. They have to keeep in mind, that you did not have to do this and you did it out of the kindness of your heart.THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU, so much and may you continue to do what you do best and may GOD bless you and your loved ones.BEST WISHES TO YOU.
This and other Philips models come with a one of a kind charging glass. All you have to do is drop your DiamondClean toothbrush into the glass to begin charging. In addition, you can still use the glass to rinse your mouth once you are done brushing.
Plaque is a sticky bacteria that sticks to your teeth. When plaque is not removed through brushing and flossing, it turns into tartar. Try one of our toothpastes which reduces plaque and tartar build up.
The first independent non-military training began in 1994.[12] Otago Polytechnic began offering a 15-month Certificate in Dental Hygiene in Dunedin.[12] In 1998, the programme was modified to be a 2-year Diploma.[12] Otago Polytech stopped offering the course in 2000.[12] The following year, University of Otago began offering a 2-year Diploma in Dental Hygiene qualification.[12] In 2002, the university added a 3-year Bachelor of Health Sciences (endorsed in Dental Hygiene) degree alongside the Diploma.[12] This course was discontinued in 2007, when the current 3 year Bachelor of Oral Health commenced.[12]
That said, I was working full time and making a solid salary, but I went into hygiene with the same idea you have. I am in school again and working two days a week. I actually got a raise switching to part time (2days/week) (lost my benefits though – something to consider), but am making almost the same salary as I was working full time.
New safety and technology regulations further helped shape the electric toothbrush. In the early 1990s lower voltages (12, 16 and 24) were introduced for bathrooms. As such, electric devices had to be modified in order to conform.

Except for the brush handle, it comes with two brush heads (compact and standard), a UV sanitizer, travel case with travel caps, a travel charger and color-coded rings for personalizing the brush heads.
I actually ended up buying it because my previous 1000 had died, and I can confirm it is exactly the same (except for a color change). It works with all the normal rotating brush heads. They actually have a brush-head compatibility chart on their site that shows you what it’s compatible with.
More attention should have been given to the fact that none of these toothbrushes has user-replaceable batteries. The planned obsolescence implied by this design is unacceptable; manufacturers need strong pressure to make it possible to replace the batteries in these things to justify the price!
If the names do not make it clear, the standard is a brush head similarly sized to a brush head you may see or use if you have a manual brush.  These are great for covering a larger surface area, but can be more difficult or not ideal for all users.
To brush your teeth, The Goby uses a rotating brush head similar to the Oral-B’s rather than an oscillating head like you’d find on the Philips Sonicare, and it feels like our top pick’s. Though a rotating brush head can produce some vibrations, we’ve found that the Goby is not uncomfortable to use. Goby says its rechargeable, induction-based battery will last two weeks, or 28 cycles, on a single charge. In our testing, a new unit lasted a little longer than that, running for 33 cycles. However, an earlier production model we tested, which may have been defective, lasted only 14 cycles. We prefer the Goby over the weaker Quip subscription brushes, which only vibrate softly like cheaper Oral-B Pulsar disposables.
Using food coloring is a great way to spot plaque on your teeth. First dab a little petroleum jelly to your lips to prevent staining, take a couple drops of food coloring in a teaspoon of water and swish it around your mouth. Spit it out and rinse with clear water. Look for colored areas where the plaque has taken up the dye and remove them with your toothbrush. When performing regular brushing, pay special attention to those areas of your mouth. Spaces between the teeth and ridges on the teeth are prime targets for the buildup of plaque.
Soak your toothbrush head in alcohol. Rubbing alcohol will kill the germs, and if you let it air dry or rinse it with water afterwards you can brush immediately after. Rubbing alcohol does the job pretty quickly, but leave your toothbrush in a glass or bowl of it for at least a minute to assure sanitation.
Standing at bed and bath because my old sonicare died and so did he one my friend gave me so I could use up my old brush heads and I was overwhelmed by too many choices!! You helped me make up my mind so quickly and I really appreciate it. Healthy white for me!!!
You should ensure that you only buy authentic and genuine Sonicare brush heads for your toothbrush so that you can be sure that the bristles will be effective at cleaning your teeth and so that the brush head will not have any impact on the sonic action from the brush handle itself.
We get your point about frailty but will also point out that you can break your Series 2 and replace it again for about the same cost as one HealthyWhite. And in an era of planned obsolescence (including the situation where battery failure = toothbrush death), investing as little as possible has advantages.
From associate’s degrees to master’s degrees, you’ll have plenty of dental hygienist schooling options to choose from. Weigh the differences between the programs to decide which one will bring you closer to your career goals.
That gives you a lot of options to choose from when buying replacement heads (that alone is an important feature). And for this reason, we don’t place great emphasis on which type comes with which model.
“The crux of this issue is that the Sonicare has no clinical evidence to show that it’s better at cleaning than a normal brush whereas the Oral-B does. Lots of it. You can click the links and read the papers for yourself.”
So, I needed a new electric toothbrush and decided to order this one. I just ordered through the link to Amazon. Better price than posted from May. Now $33.99 and then an instant $7.00 coupon so I paid $26.99. Seems hard to beat that! Thanks wirecutter.

Motor-powered toothbrushes with 30,000+ brush strokes per minute will save you time. They will truly clean the visible parts of the teeth, as well as between teeth that are not tightly squeezed. Where they will fail, however, is reaching the deep and dark parts of teeth that are very close to each other.

Love these replaceable heads to the rechargeable toothbrushes! I feel like we get longer use out of the brush itself. They also have color coded rings if you wanted multiple kiddos to us the same base. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]  see moreof Pooski’s review
There is no dark magic and wizardly spells surrounding these vibrating and rotating toothbrushes. They are rather simple devices powered by a small motor that makes motions at sonic speed. The purpose of these electric gadgets is to help clean teeth by using rapid and automatic bristle motions.

In addition to numerous publications, the declines in caries have been reviewed and discussed at length at six conferences on the subject.20 The generally held reason for the decline, the one where there is a consensus, is that the wide scale use of fluoridated toothpastes were a major reason for the decline. In a survey of 55 experts, most authors and experts agreed that the widespread use of fluoride, especially fluoride in toothpastes, was the main reason. There is little doubt that fluoride in toothpastes made a contribution to the declines in DMFT. There is little evidence that better treatment or preventive care or increased availability of dental manpower has contributed significantly to the improvement in dental caries. Dental services explained 3% of the variation in changes in 12-year-olds in 18 industrialised countries caries levels in the 1970s whereas broad socio-economic factors including fluoridated toothpastes explained 65%.21,22 So it appears that the increase in allocation of the budget spent on traditional dental care has only a marginal effect on the population’s oral health status.
The top performer in this category was the Brio, earning a 10 out of 10 and lasting for an astonishing 340 minutes. This would translate to 85 days or about 3 months with the typical brushing regimen. However, this model was the only one that did not have a low battery indicator. The model that had the shortest life was the Oral-B Pro 1000, lasting for 44 minutes, or 11 days. These day estimates do NOT take into account the power draw when the toothbrush is on standby, so these will be reduced in actual practice. All in all, these toothbrushes will all make it on a short trip without needing to be recharged, but the extensive travelers should make a particular note of the top scorers in this category: the Brio, scoring a 10 out of 10, the Colgate with a 9, and most of the Sonicare models, all scoring 7 out of 10, with the exception of the Series 2, which earned a 6 out of 10. The Oral-B models, with their rotation-oscillation brushes all, had a shorter battery life.
Expect to recharge the Oral-B Pro 1000 about once per week. You’ll see a flashing red light when the battery is getting low. The recharging base is very small, so there’s no need to clear much counter space.

These smaller heads are generally designed for tooth-by-tooth cleaning, as opposed to brushing two or more teeth together as a group (like you do with larger brushes). Some people may find that this method of brushing does not appeal to them.
In addition to offering all the features of the ISSA but at a smaller size, there is a smiley face indicator in the base of the ISSA Mini. You will receive a happy face if you brush for more than two minutes and a sad face will appear on the toothbrush if you have not used for more than 12 hours. If you have kids, it may help them improve their brushing habits.
If you plan on buying a pair for you and your partner, I strongly suggest buying from Costco for their lifetime return policy. They have comparable Oral-B and SonicCare models and regularly run sales.
Researchers know there’s a synergic relationship between oral health and overall wellness. Gum disease is linked to a host of illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, osteoporosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. By combing through 1,000-plus medical histories, researchers at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry found that people with gum disease were twice as likely as others to die from a heart attack and three times as likely to have a stroke.
Ultrasonic toothbrushes – plaque may not be removed in many types of brushes, but with ultrasonic toothbrushes it can be removed easily. This is due to the very fast side-to-side vibrations created in the motion that should be able to dislodge the plaque.
Your mouth may be the site of abscesses or other infections, disorders, or even cancer. For example, nearly all adults have been infected with herpes simplex virus, type 1. This is the virus that causes cold sores in your mouth or on your lips. This virus may lie dormant, but it remains in your body and can flare up to cause sores.
Our Philips Sonicare For Kids toothbrush and app brings a whole new level of fun to brushing. The app’s central character is the loveable Sparkly, who really likes to have clean teeth. Kids take care of Sparkly while the app’s brushing coach challenges them to brush longer and better. Each time your kid brushes well, Sparkly gets happier and each successful brushing session is rewarded. Kids can unlock accessories to personalize their Sparkly, or they can win food for Sparkly, who likes to eat healthy. Parents can even choose rewards to place on the app themselves.
If you travel a lot, you want an electric toothbrush that is lightweight, compact, and convenient to use. And because the battery isn’t rechargeable, you won’t have to worry about bringing a charger and needing a power source which is ideal for travel. It runs on AA battery which isn’t expensive and isn’t hard to find. This brush comes in different designs, such as “Tribal Quest”, “Proud Peacock” and “Loud Leopard”.
Another important consideration is: how can the provider communicate with the patient or phrase their messages in such a way as to promote the patient’s “enlightened self-interest”? Can the provider direct the patient towards having their own reasons (i.e., internal motivation) to pursue a course of action? Further, when interacting with the patient, how the message is delivered and received may have much to do with the internal attitudes of the provider. For example, if the provider is, on any level, judgmental, this attribute will likely be communicated, verbally or non-verbally, to the patient and it will undermine rapport and trust and corrode the provider-patient relationship [80]. As well, a provider’s attitude towards prevention (be it positive, neutral, or negative) will likely be communicated to the patient on some level and may influence the outcome of the current interaction and/or subsequent work on health learning and behavior change. Using an MI-consistent stance (first described by Carl Rogers) of “unconditional positive regard” is important [39•, 54]. We have found that a non-hierarchical coaching stance (in which the provider and the patient are more like equal members of a team, working alongside each other on a common goal) [15•] can be effective in promoting trust, openness, and rapport [49, 50]. The mindset of being a patient advocate is likewise important [81]—be that to promote the patient’s overall health, making the dental visit more comfortable, or helping the patient navigate the health care system. At best, all of these activities are patient centered and the literature has demonstrated the importance of this orientation [39•, 54, 82, 83, 84•, 85].

Bonding a decorative metal cover to the teeth with glue not meant for use in your mouth can do damage. And a grill made from less expensive metal than gold or silver could irritate your mouth. Always remove a grill before you eat, and make sure you keep it, and your teeth, clean.

If you have kids in the home who are stubbornly resisting the climb to a two-minute brushing cycle, options like the Frozen-themed Oral-B Pro-Health toothbrushes are a cheap and simple way to get them used to it over time. Not only that, but with the help of Oral-B’s “Fun Zone” app they can even turn the whole thing into a game which tracks their progress over time and gives them points when they consistently post “high scores” for how they brush.

Despite the lower battery life, this is still one of the best go-to budget electric toothbrushes currently available. Philips has clearly improved on the previous model by adding their favorite QuadPacer, SmarTimer, and EasyStart modes.
There are plenty of great electric toothbrushes out there for kids, but which one should you choose? When you are looking at the different models available on the market, you could think about these features to look out for. If you choose the toothbrush with the best features, then you are more likely to be able to purchase a toothbrush that will last your child for many years.
The human body works as a whole, which means good oral health habits are an important part of your overall well-being. It is important to care for your teeth and gums to prevent issues like gum disease and promote overall oral health. While a good oral care routine includes seeing your dentist regularly, it’s also imperative to take care of your mouth between visits. We need to challenge Americans think preventively and develop an everyday oral health routine that is good for them.
Likability. When it comes down to it, the best toothbrush for you is going to be the one you’re most likely to use — and use well. Some people may not like the vibrating feeling of a powered toothbrush. Others might find an electric variety easier to use to clean all tooth surfaces. This may be especially true for people with conditions that limit mobility, such as painful arthritis. If you enjoy using your toothbrush, you’re more likely to brush for the recommended length of time — two minutes. Some powered varieties even have a built-in timer to let you know when you’ve devoted enough time to brushing.

Purchase Sonicare Brush Heads Generic

I used a couple tubes of whitening toothpaste way back then and it had no effect. Once I switched to a Sonicare powered toothbrush using these brush heads, I saw my teeth get a couple of shades whiter
There are two brands that dominate the electric toothbrush market: Oral-B, known for its oscillating brushes, and Philips Sonicare, famous for sonic brushes. We scoured best-of lists from sites like Engadget and Dental Dorks, and consumer reviews on Amazon to find the most highly-rated toothbrushes from each brand. We made sure to include brushes spanning a wide range of features and price points. We also brought in their most popular options suitable for young children — colorful, easy-to-hold brushes that play songs. To see if some lesser-known brands could compete with the two industry giants, we also included top-rated toothbrushes from some aspiring industry disrupters, like Foreo, Greater Goods and Jim Ellis.
In everyday use the Neurora brush head performed almost the exact same as the Sonicare heads. The Neurora brush heads have slightly fewer bristles per grouping so they feel just a tiny bit softer. This was not a significant change to me and I am usually very sensitive to changes. Finally, the fit is nice and tight on the toothbrush handle so no worries of the brush head falling off.
Oil pulling is an age-old practice that supports oral health and helps remove plaque from teeth. Extra-virgin coconut oil is great for oil pulling because it is high in lauric acid that has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
The electric toothbrushes we tested come in two varieties: vibration and rotation. Ultimately, you likely won’t notice a difference in results from one style to the other, so you should choose one that complements your brushing style.
The FlexCare Platinum comes equipped with 3 brushing modes: Clean, White and Gum Care. Each cleaning mode allows the user to moderate the intensity of the brush using 3 additional levels. This further helps new users to ease into this powerful sonic toothbrush.
is it really? The 1000 is a rotating head. What sort of head is the Deep Sweep? It seems like it doesn’t rotate. Without seeing the underlying motor/link connection, it’s hard to tell if you can simply change the head and have them work. In the same way you can’t put an Oral-B rotating head on a Sonicare (which uses magnets to create vibrations) and have it work.
The toothbrush itself does not breathtakingly eye-catching. It will not give a futuristic look to your bathroom cabinet. But, with 31,000 vibration movements per minute, it will do the job. In addition, you get 3 brushing modes: Clean, Soft, and Massage. That is, 2 more mode than you get for the similarly priced Sonicare 2 Series.
Well, it’s definitely a good toothbrush but not the best. There’s the new oral b 7000 and the sonicare diamondclean that are way more advanced and boast a wide set of useful features. This one is great for the low price, but not for the features, which are basic. If you want to take a closer look at my reviews you can read them at http://www.electrictoothbrushking.com/ , just in case you want to update this article.
“Of course something this size isn’t gonna be as powerful as a full-size Sonicare or Oral-B electric toothbrush, but this is awesome and much better than a nonelectric travel toothbrush. The design is great — love that you can’t accidentally turn it on in your purse. Also love that it came with a triple-A battery and an extra brush head. Would buy again and would highly recommend!”
In addition, we invested over 50 hours in researching, evaluating, and testing the best powered toothbrushes widely available to find the best one. (On a personal note, the last time I went to get my teeth cleaned, both the dentist and hygienist tripped over themselves to compliment the condition of my teeth, even though I hadn’t gotten a cleaning in three years, drink coffee every day, and eat healthy sums of candy.)
They only have one sonic toothbrush, which is a sonic model, and which you can get for less than $45. What we loved about it, is that it is priced as an entry level toothbrush, but it comes with features and options that bigger brands will not offer for less than $80.
Even my several years old Flexcare has stronger vibration than both Diamondclean and Essence+. That is a mid range model and I can only assume they improved design to reduce this unwanted vibration. Some people may take this as having less cleaning power, however I do not agree on this view. Even old essence model is rated at 31,000 and only reason it gets negative points is due to lack of brushhead options.

An electric toothbrush certainly sounds appealing, but amid all the noise of manufacturer promises, how do you know which features are actually worthwhile? We asked our dental experts what a good electric toothbrush should offer. They all agreed that first and foremost, it should encourage you to improve your brushing habits. That means the best should include features, like a two-minute timer (more on this later), that have an actual impact on your brushing technique as well as easy maneuverability for those hard to reach areas.
We switched the whole family from manual to the Sonicare brushes maybe a year ago and saw a pretty radical improvement in gum health. It’s impossible to tell how much of that came from the switch to electric and how much might be attributable to the type, but the subjective feeling of cleanliness with the Sonicare was remarkably different from other electrics I’ve tried in the past.
A full review of the patient’s medical history to identify the patient’s systemic health, as well as establishing a provisional diagnosis. The provisional diagnosis is generated following a comprehensive oral examination, data collection and radiographic interpretation.
Everyone develops plaque because bacteria are constantly growing in our mouths, so it is not easy to see. Plaque that is not removed from around the gum line can cause inflammation and irritation to the gums around your teeth.
Yes, has it. – The DiamondClean Smart, DiamondClean, FlexCare Platinum Connected, FlexCare+ (plus), HealthyWhite+ (plus), Sonicare 3 series gum health, Sonicare 2 series plaque control, Sonicare for Kids, Essence+ and Essence models all feature this mode.
Studies linking oral health and general health, and efforts to expand access to oral hygiene services, will continue to drive the demand for preventive dental services. As a result, the demand for all dental services, including those performed by hygienists, will increase. In addition, demand for dental hygienists is expected to grow as state laws increasingly allow dental hygienists to work at the top of their training, and they effectively become more productive.
Reminder bristles ensure your most effective clean At first glance it may not be obvious, but brush heads lose stiffness and gradually wear down over months of normal use. Blue reminder bristles fade to white and help you recognise when it’s time for a replacement.
I highly recommend keeping your toothbrushes clean from airborne bacteria by using the Hangaway Universal Toothbrush Holder in a bathroom cabinet. It’s a great product that I’ve been using for years and it’s on Amazon for only a few dollars!

About 95 percent of dental hygienists were employed in dentists’ offices as of 2011, where they earned an average of $33.69 an hour and $70,070 a year in 2011. The few employed by outpatient care centers made an average of $69,220 a year, and those working in physician’s offices made an average of $64,160 a year. Nearly 600 dental hygienists were employed directly by the federal government in 2011, reporting a relatively low average salary of $53,960 a year.
At $165, the DiamondClean is our most expensive toothbrush. But we think it earns its hefty price tag. One of the benefits is the inclusion of a pressure sensor that actually activates without needing an unreasonable amount of pressure. Although we didn’t make pressure sensors a must-have (due to the variability in the technology), the feature came highly recommended from our experts and the DiamondClean’s sensor is top-of-the-line. When even slightly too much pressure is applied, the handle vibrates and a purple light flashes until you ease up. The closest competitor was the Oral-B 8000 which also came with an accurate pressure sensor and app compatibility. However, the core difference between the DiamondClean and Oral-B 8000 came down to usability. In short, the DiamondClean’s features were much easier to use.
Our list is designed to meet the needs of the average powered toothbrush consumer. Statistically speaking, these reviews are aimed at the 80% of people, or the middle of the curve. We have factored in cost as a practical consideration. However, we do recognize that there are consumers who are willing to splash more money. Hence, we reviewed higher end sonic toothbrush models as well.
I very rarely floss. I know I should, but I don’t do it often. After switching to this brush, dentists have not told me that it looks like I don’t floss anymore! I am NOT saying you can avoid flossing by using this brush, but I take it to mean that it does a way better job than my old manual toothbrush ever did
You can’t see it, but your brush head wears over time. Blue reminder bristles fade in color to let you know when it’s time to replace the brush head. Dental professionals recommend replacing your brush head every three months. Sonicare technology helps you remove up to two times more plaque compared to a manual toothbrush.
The TAO Clean Aura Clean Sonic Toothbrush uses 40,000 tiny brush strokes per minute to sweep away plaque and gently polish away surface stains. Features dual cleaning settings and dentist-recommended 2-minute brush timer
As we noted earlier in this guide, brush heads are a matter of personal preference of size, shape, and material. A number of third-party brands make replacement heads for Oral-B toothbrushes that tend to be much cheaper. There are some reports in user reviews that these aftermarket brushes sometimes do not fit or are of a lower quality than branded brushes, and the heads tend to be rated lower. Pay close attention when shopping for brush heads to what is “Oral-B” vs. “Oral-B compatible.”
This article approached the topic exactly as I would have and was so helpful! I had started to get confused about the subtle differences between models I was considering; your summary and all the related info was just the ticket. Thanks for taking the time to create it–a very valuable service.
Small question from someone who doesn’t live in the US: Does the Oral-B Deep Sweep 1000 mentioned in the article happen to be called the Oral-B TriZone 600 outside of the US? I’ve tried searching for the Deep Sweep, but I can’t seem to find it, and this one (http://oralb.co.uk/en-GB/productdetail/oral-b-trizone-600-rechargeable-toothbrush/) appears to be the one most similar to the Deep Sweep 1000. It might be the TriZone 2000 (http://oralb.co.uk/en-GB/productdetail/oral-b-trizone-2000-rechargeable-toothbrush/), but the product manual of that one says that is has the ‘gums cleaning mode’ shenanigans, so I don’t think so. That same product manual also mentions a TriZone 1000 model, but I don’t see that mentioned anywhere else.
For use with Advance, Elite and Essence Series handles only. E-Series: Slim, angled neck, tapered brush head, and contour-fit bristles; Gets into hard-to-reach areas for optimal results. NEW: e Series brush heads are also compatible with Sonicare Advance Handles
Oral-B’s brushes are also, on average, less expensive than replacement heads for other brushes. Dentists recommend getting a new toothbrush every three months, so these cost savings can add up over time. The Sonicare brush heads tend to be more expensive, but brands like the Waterpik and Dazzlepro have heads that are roughly the same price.
There were a few things we didn’t like about it, though. First, it doesn’t switch off after two minutes — it simply pulses, meaning there’s a risk of missing the buzz and over-brushing. That said, if you like the chance to go over a tooth or two at the end of your clean, this may not bother you. It’s also pretty loud and, like oscillating brushes in general, can be harsh on the gums. One of our testers told us, “the Oral-B felt like a power tool while the Sonicare felt like a toothbrush.” The Oral-B also has a narrow handle which our small-handed tester didn’t mind, but if you have bigger hands or arthritis, you may find the larger handle of the Sonicare 2 Series easier to maneuver.
Dental hygienists in Canada must have completed a diploma program, this can be 19 months to 3 years. All dental hygiene students must pass a NDHCB (NDHCB) examination after graduation. This examination is offered three times per year, January, May and September. Three universities in Canada offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Dental Hygiene: Dalhousie University, University of Alberta, University of British Columbia.[3][4][5]
Maintaining good oral health is easy with the Philips Sonicare e-Series Standard toothbrush heads. Designed to work with Advance, Essence, Elite, CleanCare, and Xtreme handles, these screw-on replacement brush heads feature an angled neck and contoured bristles to help you easily maneuver the brush and focus on hard-to-reach areas where plaque can hide. The blue reminder bristles fade to let you know when it’s time for replacement. Replace your brush head every three months for best results.
“I cannot recommend this toothbrush enough. I have sensitive gums, so the three intensity levels are a nice feature. It also does an excellent job of plaque removal. You’ll still need to floss, but there won’t be much left at all, as seen by using plaque-disclosing tabs. The most noticeable difference is the whitening effect, too. I dipped for 11 years, and it had taken a toll on my teeth. This brush has definitely made a difference in that department. I’ll see if I can get dentist pics and update this later, but it’s really been huge. The design of the brush allows it to stay much cleaner than a lot of other electric brushes I’ve had in the past, too, which is nice. No nasty surprises when replacing heads, and it comes with a nice travel case as well. Highly recommended.”

It seems to us that you could make that case. But we’d also suggest that setting that requirement might indicate that the way the brush is being used isn’t the manner for which it was designed. We’ll also state that the purpose of our review is one of making reasonable choices, balancing cost and capabilities.
In 2009, Fiala co-authored a paper that showed how curcuminoids, substances found in the spice turmeric, enhanced the surface binding of amyloid beta to macrophages and that vitamin D strongly stimulated the uptake and absorption of amyloid beta in macrophages.
I am not a dentist, but I do have a powerful story about baking soda. I was visiting my next-door neighbor once, who was in her 80s and she was telling me this story about a time she was in the hospital to have surgery and the nurse said, “Mrs. Boswell, I need you to give me your teeth.” and she replied, “Well, I’d love to except their mine.” And the nurse said, “Now, Mrs. Boswell, you don’t need to be embarrassed. All people your age have false teeth.” My friend replied, “Well, you can try if you like.” The nurse then looked in her mouth and said, “For goodness sakes, those are your teeth!” to which Toggy replied, “I tried to tell you.” Afterwards, she told me that all she used to brush her teeth with her whole life was baking soda. This made more of an impression on me than any other advice could have. And from that day on, I began brushing my teeth with baking soda, and I love it.
We love the Sonicare For Kids Sonic Electric Toothbrush electric toothbrush for taking the fuss out of brushing sessions. With bright colors, stickers, and a compatible phone app, it helps kids stay engaged while they brush. It even managed to make our young tester excited to brush again the next morning. A one-minute timer that gradually increases to two minutes will help your young ones get used to longer brushing periods, and we appreciate that the interactive features mean the brush teaches, rather than forces, better brushing habits. Kids will eventually outgrow it, but for $40 you can lay the groundwork for a future of healthy smiles.
It’s not that I am not pleased with the review; I think the inclusion of this information could make them much better. Hopefully, you would include it on the checklist that you use when you initially qualify products for review.
The Goby has everything we look for (two-minute timer, rechargeable battery) and the company can deliver new brush heads every few months with a subscription. However, it offers only one brush head type.
The truth is, the dentists we spoke to all agreed that how you brush is more important than what you brush with. Proper brushing technique (and flossing) are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. So it’s certainly possible to clean your teeth effectively with a manual toothbrush, and if you and your dentist are happy with these results, there’s probably no need to switch. But if your pearly whites have room to improve, an electric toothbrush’s oscillating or vibrating battery-powered bristles make it easier to maintain good technique to remove even more plaque.
