Donna Laser Modifications There are two primary classes of tooth stains: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic tooth stains are stains on the surfaces of teeth. Intrinsic tooth stains are found on the inside of the tooth, within its inner layers, in the dentin or in the pulp area. A simple way to remember the difference is to think of extrinsic tooth stains as being on the exterior of the tooth and intrinsic tooth stains on the interior of the tooth.

Tea and coffee. Tea and coffee both contain tannins, which cause the staining. There is some evidence that upping the milk in your tea or coffee may help to counteract the staining. Red wine. …It’s fine to enjoy the occasional glass of wine. But unfortunately for our teeth, red wine is one of the most common causes of tooth staining. Cola. The dark colouring of this drink, coupled with the acids which will wear away at your teeth, make cola a definite no for your teeth. Fruit juices. Dark-coloured fruit juices, such as cranberry, blueberry and grape juices are liable to leave stains on your teeth. Tomato-based sauces. Tomatoes are a great source of many important nutrients. But the pigment causing their deep red colour makes them a key offender for staining. Curry. With their strong, deep colouring it’s no wonder that eating lots of curries can leave behind tell-tale signs on your teeth. Balsamic vinegar. It may make a tasty salad dressing, but the deep pigmentation in balsamic vinegar means you need to watch out for its effects on your teeth. Soy sauce. It’s a classic addition to any good stir-fry, but the dark colouring of soy may linger on your teeth long after your meal’s finished. Berries. Munching on a handful of berries can help to tot up your five-a-day. But as healthy as they may be, berries are another tooth-staining culprit. Beetroot. Beetroot is packed full of vitamins and minerals, and there have been claims about its health benefits. But if you’ve ever handled beetroot, you’ll know just how much it can stain.

It didn’t work well on my crowns though. I have some staining on my back crowns and it didn’t make much of a difference. I’ll keep trying though to see if it will improve with time. I’ll post back if it helps with continued use.

Like the more expensive models we tested, the brush survived its drop test, fits in its charging cradle well, and can switch out brush heads easily. Oral-B changes the name of this brush about once a year, but functionally the entire series remains pretty much the same.

6 backers To give you an illustration: your dentist or hygienist will probably do a regular check on your teeth that awards you an overall “plaque score”. This score reflects the percentage surface area of your teeth that is covered or partially covered by plaque. Many patients who diligently brush twice a day and think they’re doing a great job of taking care of their teeth come out with plaque scores of 50pc or higher, which is not good.

Regular cleanings from a dental hygienist will help you keep your oral health in check and alert you to potential issues sooner. Remember, the sooner your dentist learns about an issue, the less painful it will be to fix it.

That said, the FlexCare Platinum Connected will cost $199.99, which is pretty much what I paid for my Philips Sonicare DiamondClean. So for the same price, you can have Bluetooth and get feedback on how well you’re brushing your teeth. And even get flossing and tongue scraping reminders if you’re into that kind of thing. Of course, for $100 less, you can also get an Oral-B Pro 5000, which also has Bluetooth connection and doesn’t seem that much different from the new Philips Sonicare to me. The apps look incredibly similar, actually.

To stress-test them, we also dropped our picks onto a tile floor from chest height to test for durability and submerged them in water while they were running for a full two-minute brushing cycle to test for water resistance. We compared the brushes on all these usability points to arrive at our conclusion.

The “smart” stuff is what Philips is selling this thing on, though. That comes in a couple of ways. On the brush itself, there are three separate brushing modes: “Clean” is the standard issue one, “White” is meant for stain removal, and “Deep Clean” does a little more work with your gums.

Tired of cavities? Yellow-Brown/Dark Brown Stained Teeth – If you regularly drink beverages like coffee, tea, wine (red or white) or soda, your teeth may eventually start to develop a yellowish-brown or dark brown tint. This is an extrinsic type of tooth stain, resulting more from the interaction between a substance with your tooth’s calculus or plaque than the color of the food or beverage.

The first step would be to give you a physical exam. Your dentist would use a small mirror to look into your teeth for any gum problems or cavities. Once it is safe to go ahead with the treatment, you dentist would start removing the plaque and tartar around the gum line. There might be some scrapping sound involved, but this is normal. Regular flossing at your home can stop the buildup of tartar. After your teeth are tartar free, your dentist would use a high-powered brush to remove them. This is the part where the grinding noise occurs and can cause some discomfort to the patient. In truth, this actually makes a zinging noise and more than the pain you might feel a slight tickling sensation. It gently scrubs your teeth, and it is extremely safe. The next step is the flossing. Even though you regularly floss at home, nothing can beat the flossing mechanism that the dentist has to offer. These take care of even the minutest particle that might have settled in between your teeth. Next, your dentist would use a rinse to flush out all the impurities that might have gathered. After this, a fluoride treatment would be given where according to your favorite taste like mint and strawberry, the fluoride would be applied to your mouth.

The Goby Electric Toothbrush is only a few dollars more than our other picks and comes with the same no-frills features: a two-minute timer that shuts the brush off at the end, plus a quadrant timer to prompt you to switch areas every 30 seconds. Goby offers an “optional” brush head subscription service—however, keep in mind that you can’t get new brush heads anywhere else and there is only one kind available. Unlike the Sonicare, there is no travel case to stash your brush head.

I really appreciated the clear logic of this comparison, but ultimately I decided I couldn’t pay good money for a brush that shuts off automatically after two minutes. As someone who routinely brushes more than two minutes, I just know I would find the shutdown annoying every time it happened.
