Unfortunately, there is no cheat or secret way around this one. The reality is that smoking plays havoc with oral and dental hygiene. You will always be at a much higher risk of gum disease and tooth infection while you smoke. It will also lead to accelerated tartar build-up in and around the gum line.
Cleaning modes don’t matter, according to experts we spoke to and research we’ve seen. The only one that might help is “sensitive mode” for people who find the brush’s normal oscillations too jarring. “People with sensitive teeth may find that their teeth are less sensitive when the brush head moves slower or less pressure is applied,” said Dr. Messina. The average person doesn’t need it, though. “As far as whitening goes, all toothbrushes help remove surface stains when used with a toothpaste because toothpastes contain mild abrasives and detergents for this purpose,” said Dr. Messina.
I’m about to order a new Sonicare HealthyWhite toothbrush to replace my old one. The old one takes the screw-on brush heads, so I’m moving into unfamiliar territory with the snap-on heads. Do you know if it’s possible to get a “sampler pack” of one each of the different snap-on brush heads? I’m not really sure which kind will be best for me, aside from the fact that I’ve tended to prefer the compact brush head size. Thanks!
Keep an eye on how hard you are brushing your teeth. You should not be placing a great pressure on them. It will not clean your teeth faster or better; be reasonably gentle and use a soft bristled brush for comfort. It is a common misconception to believe that hard bristled brushes are better at getting rid of plaque.

If you are prone to developing tartar patches or are worried about plaque, pick up a tartar control toothpaste variety. They contain a concoction of ingredients designed to battle against crusty build ups in the mouth. In some cases, they also contain triclosan. This is an antibiotic substance that can kill off a number of bacteria strains.
You could also mash together a super nourishing paste of vitamin C heavy fruits. So, oranges, tomatoes, strawberries, and anything else that you have in the house. Mix together until you get a thick paste and then apply this to the tartar and plaque build ups. Leave to rest for five minutes and then rinse thoroughly. The vitamin C will help to remove bacteria and keep your mouth healthy.
All essence+ models have same specifications. They only differ in color and included starter brush type. They all have QuadPacer and it beeps when battery is low. LED battery indicator is bit hard to see (too dim) but it’s minor issue.

First, I asked two friends who are dentists what they prefer. One friend strongly recommended the Sonicare FlexCare+, stating that the top of the line models are not any better. The other provided a similar recommendation to my dentist – either one will be a huge improvement over a manual brush. So slight tilt to the Sonicare at this point. Very slight because not much detail was provided as to why the Sonicare was better. Just a “trust me, get this” endorsement.
That difference was especially true for the compatible apps — the Sonicare app was much more intuitive and the real-time feedback was better. For instance, the Sonicare app displays a 3D model of your teeth and the toothbrush will recognize whether you are angling your brush properly. If brushing properly, the teeth on the display will progressively get whiter. However, if you use poor technique the teeth on the display won’t change, and if you use too much movement or pressure, an alert will display on your phone. The Oral-B app isn’t bad, but our tester reported navigating the menus was more difficult. In addition, the position detection for brushing angle was less accurate than the Sonicare’s app — our tester eventually found themselves flailing the Oral-B 8000 around to find the right position. While apps and brushing modes aren’t essential, they will make a toothbrush expensive. If we are paying extra for features, we want them to be easy to use, and for that reason the DiamondClean takes the crown.
The other major flaw of the Pro 1000 is that its head is a departure from the usual rotating/pulsating motion of most powered Oral-B brushes. The head it comes with has two moving parts: one that moves up and down vertically and a longer set of bristles at the top that flop back and forth. Compared with other toothbrushes, the motion was a little violent.

Unfortunately, plaque accumulates again quickly after being brushed away. Some experts recommend other at-home treatments to remove plaque buildup. These include oil pulling and baking soda treatments.
It is usually common sense for adults not to swap toothbrushes with each other, but young children need to be taught which toothbrush is theirs and to only use their toothbrush. Color coding or writing names on the toothbrush will help. When people use each others toothbrushes the also swap each other’s germs and could easily cause sickness.
I love the way you distilled the information down to those features that seem to matter most. I’m wondering which of the Sonicare models feature angled brush heads. I found on the Philips web site that some features may be present but not called out, and it is difficult to tell based on photos depending on which angle the picture is taken from. The reason I’m checking for this feature is because I think it will help reach the back teeth.

Our point here would be that you owe it to yourself to perform some experimentation. Don’t just use a Standard-size head one because you think you should. Experiment and determine which seems best to you.
To become a dental hygienist in the US one must attend a college or university that is approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination. There are several degrees one may receive. An associate degree after attending community college is the most common and only takes two years to obtain. After doing so, one may work in a dental office. There is also the option of receiving a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree if one plans to work in an educational institute either for teaching or research.
