4. Job outlook (especially in my home state of Texas) I am willing to relocate to any part of Texas or across the country for my job if need be. (I have already moved across the ccountry because one of my parents had a job opportunity).
The Pro 1000 is rated to last for seven days of brushing sessions on one charge; in our real-world testing, it lasted for 11½ days, which is average for a brush in this price range. Like the more expensive models we tested, the brush survived its drop test, fits in its charging cradle well, and can switch out brush heads easily. Oral-B changes the name of this brush about once a year, but functionally the entire series remains pretty much the same.
There are areas in the United States, typically rural areas, where patients need dental care but have little access to it. Job prospects will be especially good for dental hygienists who are willing to work in these areas.

Leave your toothbrush head in mouthwash. Because mouthwash is an antiseptic, it can kill germs as well. The alcohol content is lower, however, so leave your toothbrush head in the liquid for several minutes.
Like when you’re cleaning your teeth manually, these sonic toothbrushes clean your teeth using a sweeping motion, although you can expect more movement than you’d get with most of the standard toothbrushes. The bacteria and the plaque is brushed away from your teeth and your gum line so that you can enjoy clean teeth, however you will still have to ensure that you use plenty of mouthwash afterwards to get the loosened bacteria out of your mouth.
Some more modern ultrasonic toothbrushes actually add the same long amplitude strokes to the ultrasonic toothbrush so that you can benefit from the plaque and bacteria being loosened and swept away as well as being broken down.
less than a month ago two top of field dentists and periodontics were on radio after a professional conference. Now after for years saying floss , floss, floss, they say the research has shown flossing either has no benefit or the benefit is negligible. Today on BBC the dentists were saying that dental check of every 6 months is excessive! basically so called science is not exact in anything. All the things which were good six months ago, today may proven are not good for us!
The Amazon page makes mention of “OEHHA Prop 65 approved.” That regulation has to do with the materials used to make the heads. That’s not a standard dealing with issues such as bristle stiffness or whether the tips of the brisles are rounded or not. Both of these factors could affect product safety to oral tissues.

The dental hygienists in some parts of North America can provide oral hygiene treatment based on the assessment of a patient’s needs without the authorization of a dentist, treat the patient in absence of a dentist, and also maintain a provider-patient relationship.
Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood rich in oxygen throughout your body. They go to your brain as well as to the tips of your toes. Healthy arteries have smooth inner walls and blood flows through them easily. Some people, however, develop clogged arteries. Clogged arteries result from a buildup of a substance called plaque on the inner walls of the arteries. Arterial plaque can reduce blood flow or, in some instances, block it altogether.

I used my first Sonicare for two years but the rubberized base became moldy and smelly and I needed to replace it. The second I used for 4 years and it became useless when the brush head would not stay on the base during use.

Even if you take great care of your teeth at home, you still have bacteria in your mouth. They mix with proteins and food byproducts to form a sticky film called dental plaque. This gunk coats your teeth, gets under your gum line, and sticks to fillings or other dental work. Plaque carries bacteria that can damage tooth enamel and lead to cavities. But if you remove plaque regularly, you can prevent permanent tooth decay and gum disease.
So, you can expect that the DiamondClean and Flexcare models (both of these models at one time were Sonicare’s “top” brush) run more quietly than brushes at the other end of the price scale like the Easy Clean or Sonicare 2.
And finally, snacking on aged cheeses (like Swiss or cheddar) can be a great way to neutralize the acids that accumulate right after meals. As these acids are what contribute to plaque build ups, you now have a perfectly valid excuse to be indulging your penchant for fine fromages. According to scientists, there is an element in aged cheese that acts as a buffering agent and a barrier for plaque. You can also find the same element in peanuts and sesame seeds.
This pack of five toothbrushes will last you more than a year, so it’s a great deal. The colors in your pack will vary. This is an Amazon best seller and has outstanding online reviews. If you have little ones, consider the Nimbus NIMBY Children’s Toothbrush as well.
Chewing gum assists oral irrigation between and around the teeth, cleaning and removing particles, but for teeth in poor condition it may damage or remove loose fillings as well. Dental chewing gums claim to improve dental health. Sugar-free chewing gum stimulates saliva production, and helps to clean the surface of the teeth.[41]

  1. We’d trust WaterPik to make a quality electric toothbrush. As compared to Sonicare you are more limited in brush head styles. However, the small pointed Interdental Tip is a design not duplicated in the Sonicare line and could be a valuable aid for some.
Cleaning modes don’t matter, according to experts we spoke to and research we’ve seen. The only one that might help is “sensitive mode” for people who find the brush’s normal oscillations too jarring. “People with sensitive teeth may find that their teeth are less sensitive when the brush head moves slower or less pressure is applied,” said Dr. Messina. The average person doesn’t need it, though. “As far as whitening goes, all toothbrushes help remove surface stains when used with a toothpaste because toothpastes contain mild abrasives and detergents for this purpose,” said Dr. Messina.
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Dental Hygiene offers a more thorough introduction to the field of dental science by including two years of clinical experience into its curriculum. The clinical component of the degree will train students in oral health assessments, oral disease examination, oral cancer screening procedures and filling and periodontal dressing removal and placement. Some B.S. programs may cover topics such as the administration of anesthetics and dental filling material placement. Some courses address dental science theory and may include:
The words TAO Clean, short for ‘The Art of Clean’ are what motivate us to create offerings that instill exceptional cleanliness habits. We firmly believe that every object we create must deliver a wonderful user experience from start to finish. It must be built on outstanding aesthetic design and be both easily and seamlessly entwined with your routine. Put simply; we make lifestyle tools that help you keep your cleaning rituals and that we’re proud of.
I considered travel convenience since I am on the move a lot. Both come with travel cases. Oral-B is a nicer looking black case. The Oral-B is made by Braun, and the travel charger uses the same kind of plug as my Braun Series 9.
When it comes to keeping gums healthy, flossing is only part of the story. Gentle gum cleaning stimulates and rejuvenates them by improving circulation. With Philips Sonicare, you could see your gum health improve in just two weeks¹. Team up your gum care electric toothbrush with the AdaptiveClean brush head; this adapts to the contours of your gums and teeth for a deep but gentle clean.
All contemporary high-end electric toothbrushes come standard with rechargeable batteries that are charged using inductive charging. Such toothbrushes are not new to the market, however, they have been subjected to continuous improvement based on scientific research. Or, so do large manufacturers want us to believe.
The 2 Series Sonicare is without a doubt consumers’ top pick. With over 4,000 positive reviews on Amazon and a 4.3 rating, this older model will not be extinct anytime soon. Especially now that it is available in 5 different colors, including a “white on ultra-coral” that I am itching to simply call “pink”. But, let’s leave color definitions to Philips.
As you’ll see below there’s a giant price difference between the top and bottom-end Sonicares. And based on this single factor alone, it’s easy enough to anticipate that while some models may share similar features and specifications, they’re probably not really equals. (It’s been our experience that some Sonicare representatives are pretty quick to harp this point when you call with questions.)

  2. Dental hygienists will clean a patient’s teeth, removing tartar, stains and plaque as they brush, floss and scrape. Dental hygienists are also involved in educating patients on the best ways to brush and floss teeth, as well as which products to use.

Well, it’s definitely a good toothbrush but not the best. There’s the new oral b 7000 and the sonicare diamondclean that are way more advanced and boast a wide set of useful features. This one is great for the low price, but not for the features, which are basic. If you want to take a closer look at my reviews you can read them at http://www.electrictoothbrushking.com/ , just in case you want to update this article.

  3. There are many manufacturers and hundreds of different models of electric toothbrushes available on the market. In order to pick the best seven, we had to come up with an inclusive as well as exclusive criteria and stick to it. Having said that, there are two key factors that we considered before we even begun to rank the toothbrushes.
Flexcare Platinum has some of the features of DiamondClean but comes at a lower price. It’s not as advanced as the previous model and also lacks some of its useful features. However, it’s still a powerful toothbrush with immense cleaning capabilities.
Sucrose (table sugar) is most commonly associated with cavities. The amount of sugar consumed at any one time is less important than how often food and drinks that contain sugar are consumed. The more frequently sugars are consumed, the greater the time during which the tooth is exposed to low pH levels, at which point demineralisation occurs (below 5.5 for most people). It is important therefore to try to encourage infrequent consumption of food and drinks containing sugar so that teeth have a chance to be repaired by remineralisation and fluoride. Limiting sugar-containing foods and drinks to meal times is one way to reduce the incidence of cavities. Sugars from fruit and fruit juices, e.g., glucose, fructose, and maltose can also cause cavities.
To protect your enamel and avoid eventually losing your teeth, you need to remove tartar and plaque. Your dentist and dental hygienist do this for you twice a year, a part of which is covered by your dental insurance, but what about the intervening months? These ten clever home remedies can help you get plaque and tartar off of your teeth at home, keeping your smile healthy and white.
For proper dental care, it’s important to practice dental hygiene, such as regular brushing, flossing and other. But it’s just as important to have a proper brushing technique. We hope that our guide will help you with how to brush with Sonicare toothbrush properly. Brushing with an electric toothbrush, you should remember that only light pressure is required. If you press too hard, it will not make it more effective but can damage your teeth. Sonic toothbrushes are highly effective. Many dentists also recommend them as the best electric toothbrushes. Some of the top Sonicare models include Sonicare DiamondClean, Sonicare FlexCare, and Sonicare FlexCare Plus, Sonicare Series 2 HX6211.
Peripheral artery disease. If plaque builds up in the blood vessels that carry blood to your legs, it can reduce the amount of oxygen delivered. The reduced blood flow can cause you to experience pain, numbness, or serious infection in your legs and feet.
Our point here would be that you owe it to yourself to perform some experimentation. Don’t just use a Standard-size head one because you think you should. Experiment and determine which seems best to you.

  4. To us this is evidence that this setting represents the most effective cleaning action the brush can make and non-31,000 strokes/min modes are inferior. (They also state the EasyStart must be deactivated, which is another lower-power setting.)
These electric toothbrushes vibrate an astonishing 30,000+ times per minute. The high speed loosens and removes plaque, food bits, and bacteria from the surfaces of the teeth, between the teeth, and even slightly below the gum line. The speed also induces a fluid dynamic inside your mouth, which helps to remove bacteria even slightly beyond the tip of the toothbrush’s bristles. On the downside, some users don’t like the feel of the vibration, and others find sonic toothbrushes irritating to their gums.
Essential oils, found in Listerine mouthwash, contains eucalyptol, menthol, thymol, and methyl salicylate. CPC containing mouthwash contains cetyl pyridinium chloride, found in brands such as Colgate Plax, Crest Pro Health, Oral B Pro Health Rinse. In a meta-analyses completed in 2016, EO and CPC mouthrinses were compared and it was found that plaque and gingivitis levels were lower with EO mouthrinse when used as an adjunct to mechanical plaque removal (toothbrushing and interdental cleaning).[49]
Designed specifically for dental hygienists with an associate’s or certificate, a degree-completion program results in a baccalaureate degree. You must have a license to practice in order to enroll. Since the program is designed for dental hygienists who are already working, you’ll find that some schools offer their curriculum completely online or in a hybrid format. In many cases, you won’t be required to fulfill clinical requirements.
Thank you Tracy! As a hygienist I was hoping someone with some sense would comment on this ridiculous post. But who knows, maybe it really was meant to be a big joke? ? you gotta love the before and after pictures too. I’m pretty sure all that calculus just magically melted away with baking soda and orange peels. Why haven’t we just been using this home remedy all along? I work my fingers to the bone scraping this off all day long the hard way. Who knew??
For the person who commented about recurring strep throat…gargle with salt water – one part salt to 2 parts warm to hot but not boiling water. Gargle 3x per day for a couple days. The salt kills strep.
I agree with a lot of was reviewed here like bang for the buck and how the oscillating brush does remove more plague (7%). Have you guys considered that study has shown that the oral-b oscillating brush did not improve gum health over a 6 month study while the sonicare showed vast improvement for gum health in 6 months compared to oral b.
I highly don’t recommend leaving acids on teeth, however, Vitamin C on the teeth (and in general) can do wonders so you can use the sodium ascorbate form of vitamin C on your teeth. When making a glass of a gram or two with water, I sometimes swish it all around for a minute or so, a few separate times, before swallowing.
For the longest time I was convinced that these replacement heads (“E-series”) would not fit my old Sonicare brush base, which I think dates from before 2007. It is the kind where the brush head is perfectly veritical (no angle). From the Sonicare pictures I now think maybe it is one of the “Advance” series – I can’t tell from the markings on the brush base itself, and the packaging is long gone. (See photos I have posted which shows the old base and head.)

  5. Keep an eye on how hard you are brushing your teeth. You should not be placing a great pressure on them. It will not clean your teeth faster or better; be reasonably gentle and use a soft bristled brush for comfort. It is a common misconception to believe that hard bristled brushes are better at getting rid of plaque.
The dental hygienists in some parts of North America can provide oral hygiene treatment based on the assessment of a patient’s needs without the authorization of a dentist, treat the patient in absence of a dentist, and also maintain a provider-patient relationship.
Your mouth is home to millions of bacteria so cleaning your toothbrush makes sense if you want to prevent illness. You should be cleaning your toothbrush every week and it is also wise to keep a supply of new toothbrushes on hand so you can readily replace the old one every three months.  If you use and electric toothbrush, the heads are replaceable and can be cleaned and disinfected in the same way as a conventional toothbrush.
Dental assistants perform many tasks, ranging from providing patient care and taking x rays to recordkeeping and scheduling appointments. Their duties vary by state and by the dentists’ offices where they work.
This Sonicare model also can work in 5 modes, though they’re different from those of DiamondClean. The similar models are Clean, Sensitive and Gum Care. The other two for Flexcare Plus include Massage and Refresh modes.
People swear by all sorts of folk wisdom when it comes to keeping a clean toothbrush. Some run it through the dishwasher. Others soak the head in mouthwash or effervescent denture cleaner. Still others freeze it, boil it or invest in a pricey ultraviolet toothbrush “sanitizer.”
But what really sets the Aura Clean Sonic Toothbrush apart from its competitors? It’s the Aura Clean Base Station – a unique enclosed charging base for the toothbrush handle and brush head that won’t take up a lot of space on your vanity, and it also cleans and dries your brush head! Once you dock your damp toothbrush after use, the 360-degree Aura Clean Halo uses powerful UVC rays to kill 99.9% of bacteria, and then the built-in dryer wicks away any moisture from the brush to ensure that no germs or bacteria stand a chance. After all, what’s the point of trying to duplicate that “just came from the dentist” feeling if you’re not even using a hygienic toothbrush?
I’m in 8th grade and I know its very early to be choosing my career but I thought being a hygienist would be really fun and not too much college plus I love going to get my teeth cleaned. it seems like I would have enough to support myself and later in life a family and like I said I know its real early to figure out but I’m wondering if is a good choice or not?
However, and once again like with the 2 Series, comments we’ve read on large retailer websites seem to suggest that first-time buyers tend to be relatively satisfied with this brush (as compared to using their manual one).

  6. Good to know. I am in California too and thinking of becoming a RDH. I also considered sonography and nursing but think this might be the right choice. I am currently a massage therapist and it’s just too physically demanding and also super inconsistent as it is not a necessity but a luxury to most people. I hear that RDH is physical too but I feel maybe less so? Or possibly just different. I love the idea of not working 5 days as I do lots of things and the hours are way better than nursing and sonography. At this point in life I would prefer not to work late nights, on call or all weekends and holidays. There has to be a balance in everything.
NiCd batteries have an attribute called ‘memory’, which quickly eats away the battery life if you don’t fully discharge the battery before charging it again. Since the voltage fall-off curve is fairly soft, that means the toothbrush or whatever it is that you’re using will lose effectiveness long before you fully discharge the battery as well. Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that I believe some Sonicare models use NiMH batteries (most modern rechargables probably should, if not Li-ion…)
The GUM Technique Deep Clean Toothbrush makes it easy to brush the way your dental hygienist recommends. By cleaning at a 45-degree angle, you are able to really clean around and under the gums without irritating them. The patented no-slip, quad-grip thumb pad on the handle is designed to make it easier to hold the brush at the proper angle so the bristles can penetrate deeply and accomplish subgingival (below-the-gumline) cleaning. Over time, this can help prevent gum disease. The soft compact head naturally follows over the curves of the teeth, including around molars or where teeth are missing. It also cleans between teeth (which is also great for non-flossers). The soft bristles make them ideal for anyone with sensitive teeth and gums.
Avoid sugary and starchy foods. The bacteria found in plaque thrive on sugary and starchy foods. In fact, every time you eat these kinds of foods, the bacteria release an acid which leads to tooth decay and cavities. To avoid this, try to minimize your consumption of these types of processed foods and pay special attention to your brushing and flossing routine if you decide to indulge.[4]
