How Do You Oral Hygiene And Canker Sores?

Sonicare is one of the most popular brands in oral care products. Their main products include electric toothbrush and airfloss. The whole Sonicare line of toothbrushes is powered by the sonic technology. A standard electric brush can vibrate with the speed of about 3000 to 8000 strokes per minute. The sonic technology provides a faster speed and can vibrate the brush head at 30,000 to 40,000 vibrations per minute. This major difference provides a more efficient cleaning experience.
In addition, we invested over 50 hours in researching, evaluating, and testing the best powered toothbrushes widely available to find the best one. (On a personal note, the last time I went to get my teeth cleaned, both the dentist and hygienist tripped over themselves to compliment the condition of my teeth, even though I hadn’t gotten a cleaning in three years, drink coffee every day, and eat healthy sums of candy.)
Dental hygienists work together with other dental professionals, with a higher number working at general practices with Dentists, dental therapists and oral health therapists. A smaller number work at specialist practices alongside orthodontists and periodontists. They help with the contribution of an interdisciplinary approach, aiming to provide optimum oral health care to their patients. Dental hygienists also aim to work inter-professionally to provide holistic oral health care in the best interest of their patient. Dental hygienists also offer expertise in their field and can provide a dental hygiene diagnosis, which is an integral component of the comprehensive dental diagnosis.[7]
Should the plaque removal begin with the first brushing using a Bass Brush and proper technique, or will this take a series of brushings? How long before results are noticed by the average customer? Thank you for the helpful article!
I’m not a chemist so I’m not sure how much baking soda would be required to cancel out the effectiveness of the vinegar but since my recipe calls for just 2 tsp of baking soda there’s probably still enough vinegar left to do some disinfecting. The baking soda addition does add the bubbles which can assist is removing grime from the toothbrush. If someone is really, really concerned about maximizing the disinfecting aspect of the mixture, they could simply place them in the vinegar first and then add the baking soda later. This works for us and our family. We are rarely sick and have had no problems at all. There was a study put out by the University of Florida saying that the mixture was an effective cleaning agent but I can’t seem to find it anymore. Thanks for your comment, Serena.
The program can take between one and two years to complete, depending on if you attend part-time or full-time. After completing the appropriate coursework, students are usually required to submit a capstone project. You’ll typically have to conduct research in a particular area of dental hygiene.

When you consider the long-term use of a sonic toothbrush over years and decades, it only makes sense that the additional non-contact cleaning effect it creates may be significant (as compared to conventional electric or manual toothbrushes which don’t provide this benefit).
Not to brag, but we have spent some considerable time working on this list. All features mentioned above are current as of February 25th, 2017. But, they are subject to change, as we have no control over what the manufacturers do, or choose to include in their models.
Suitable for all brush handles from Sonicare with the exception of PowerUP Battery and Essence, the ProResults can deliver over 31,000 brush strokes per minute on the appropriate cleaning mode, achieving the maximum cleaning effectiveness.
This information was exactly what I was looking for and this site is probably the best product comparison website I have ever seen. Keep up the good work! I couldn’t find any affiliate links so that I could order through the site however…but maybe I missed them?
To make things easier we have included below the links and product codes (shown in bold) to every type of Sonicare brush head available on Amazon at the time of writing. Overall, the three retailers we recommend checking out are:
The replacement brush heads for the 2 Series are slightly more expensive at $27 for three ($9 each); the Oral-B’s replacement heads can be as cheap as $5 to $6 each, making the Oral-B’s expenses a little lower in the long run. Per our testing, Sonicare brush heads are interchangeable, and all the Sonicare brushes we tested were able to accommodate each other’s heads. Sonicare does not make this explicit anywhere in its product materials. Most of Sonicare’s brush heads are oblong with soft bristles and lack options for additional structural elements, like rubber flaps or “polishing cups,” so you get fewer options than you do with Oral-B.

There are certain accessories, such as charging stations and power cords, which all electric toothbrushes come with. Some models come with extra brush heads, which could be useful because eventually, you will have to replace them. But, other accessories, such as travel cases, can prove to be quite expensive and end up never being used.
Furthermore, the model we purchased for testing broke within a week. The battery died and simply refused to be charged again. Contacting Pursonic did nothing, as we never received a replacement or a decent explanation.
Strawberries and tomatoes have good quantities of vitamin C which is excellent for oral health. Rub these fruits directly onto your teeth and let sit for 5 minutes, this will soften any tartar build-up. Then rinse your mouth with baking soda mixed with warm water to remove plaque, leaving you with super-clean pearly whites. You can also use other vitamin C rich foods like bell peppers, berries, lemons, papaya, oranges, and lime in the same way. Do this about 2-3 times per week to remove plaque buildup that occurs through everyday eating.
Dental hygienists can become members of the New Zealand Dental Hygienists’ Association.[28] The association was founded in 1993,[29] and is affiliated with the International Federation of Dental Hygienists.[30]

It can easily be argued that each brush head within the Sonicare range is specialist, in that they are each designed to do something specific.  However, the following are even more specialist.  Technically, these are not brush heads, they are nozzles.
Capable of removing up to 10 times more plaque than a manual brush, whilst achieving 4 times more surface contact, the Premium White brush head makes use of all the sonic vibrations passed out by the brush handles motor.  It whips toothpaste into bubble and drives them deep between your teeth and along the gumline for gentle and effective cleaning.
Remember that sonicare toothbrush heads are exceptionally high quality, and this can make them a little more expensive than manual toothbrushes. They are certainly worth it however, and if you want to save some money when it comes to buying replacement head, you should consider purchasing multiple heads at the same time.

While all of the models listed on our Best Sonicares page come with a brush head included, it’s important to understand that other styles can be used too (different bristle designs, standard or compact size).

Drinking dark colored beverages such as wine or beer may stain the teeth leading to a discolored smile. Drinking high-concentration alcohol can lead to a dry mouth, with little saliva to protect the teeth from plaque and bacteria.[44]
Quad-pacer: A quad-pacer splits the two-minute brushing timer into four 30-second intervals. This allows you to focus on brushing one quadrant of your mouth at a time for an even brushing session. Most quad pacers will either use short pauses in vibration or produce a short series of pulses to notify you when it’s time to switch.

  1. Flexibility: The flexibility offered by full- and part-time employment options and availability of evening and weekend hours enable dental hygienists to balance their career and lifestyle needs. Hygienists also have opportunities to work in a wide variety of settings including private dental practices, educational and community institutions, research teams and dental corporations.
The ToiletTree Rechargeable seemed like a good value prospect, as it comes with a free secondary travel toothbrush, but reviews report that it is very loud and stops working after a short period of time. It is no longer available on Amazon.
Security: The services that dental hygienists provide are needed and valued by a large percentage of the population. There is currently a great demand for dental hygienists. Employment opportunities will be excellent well into the future. Due to the success of preventive dentistry in reducing the incidence of oral disease, the expanding older population will retain their teeth longer, and will be even more aware of the importance of regular dental care. With the emphasis on preventive care, dentists will need to employ more dental hygienists than ever before to meet the increased demand for dental services.
These electric toothbrushes by Sonicare are the top picks based on their features, quality, design, and reviews by real users. You can compare their features, prices, think of the modes, and think of which features are more important for you.

  2. The DiamondClean and DiamondClean Smart lines are the slimmest/sleekest of the Sonicares. However, all of the more modern Sonicares (including the models you mention) are much slimmer than the models of yesteryear (some of which are still sold). Many retailers have “dummy” Sonicare models on display so you can hold them (Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc…).
Otherwise, you’re basically saying, “this one works better for me, for the things that I like,” i.e. it makes your mouth feel cleaner (to which I will add that you’ve provided no evidence other than “it feels cleaner to me”). That is great for you if that’s what you care most about. I think most people would prefer the brush with clinical evidence backing it up.

Sonicare is one of the best selling Philips toothbrushes around. It provides sonic technology, which is perfect for sweeping away the plaque and the bacteria from your teeth as well as breaking down bacteria and debris that may have managed to sink below the gum line. As different users have different requirements and needs, there are a few different brush heads that you can choose from for these electric toothbrushes. Read on to find out more about the kinds of sonicare toothbrushes that you can choose from.
These are excellent replacement brush heads for the Sonicare toothbrush. I tried an off-brand replacement before that did not fit the toothbrush. These fit perfectly and very snug! I’ve been using it for about a week now and I’m still very pleased with my purchase. They are a little softer than I’m use to, but I don’t mind…especially when consider that an 8-pack is only $14 compared to a 2-pack of the Sonicate brand for between $20-$30! If you’re looking for a high-quality, inexpensive replacement, look no further.
Precision engineered, the brush head makes use of all the sonic vibrations passed out by the brush handles motor.  It whips toothpaste into bubble and drives them deep between your teeth and along the gumline for gentle and effective cleaning.
Note: When it comes to the EasyStart and QuadPacer functions, the information found on Sonicare’s website doesn’t always agree with what is found in the user manuals of individual models. On this page we’ve tended to side with what’s shown on the website, assuming that it is the most up-to-date information.
The battery will last around 2 weeks if used twice a day with the Clean mode. We only tested the other modes briefly to see what the difference in power was. Considering that Clean was the hardest mode of the 3, we can assume battery will last the same or longer if used with the other 2 modes. Having said that, it takes 24 to fully charge the battery. That is on average 8 hours longer than other more advanced Sonic toothbrushes.
We agree. We find it hard to believe that the “knock off” brushes adhere to the same stringent standards of the Sonicare brush heads (proper bristle stiffness/flexibility, rounded bristle ends, etc…).
[This is really pretty amazing. At 1/8 of an inch, via a non-contact phenomenon, over 1/2 of the dental plaque was removed after just 5 seconds. And although the study didn’t mention it, you’d have to assume that there is at least some level of effect at distances that are even further.]

  3. With any manual toothbrush, there’re places in between the teeth that are difficult to reach. That can leave plaque and lead to cavities. However, DiamondClean provides double cleaning power to that of a manual toothbrush. This results in more plaque removal in the hardest to reach areas.
I’ve used regular toothbrushes my entire life, but at the recommendation of my new dentist, I looked into an electric tooth brush. I asked my dentist if she had a recommendation, but she more or less said that any electric toothbrush will likely be better than a manual toothbrush, but that she personally uses a Sonicare tooth brush that’s a few years old. With that in mind, down the rabbit hole if internet researching I went.
Picked up this unit a few weeks after a dental cleaning. After 5 1/2 months of using it the tartar that would normally be on the back of my lower incisors was virtually nonexistent. The dental hygienist probably spent half the time she normally does scraping and picking. She noticed a big difference.
Employment of dental hygienists is projected to grow 20 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. The demand for dental services will increase as the population ages and as research continues to link oral health to overall health.
One of the fancier brushes in the Sonicare line, the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected not only has far more cleaning settings than you need (three total, each with multiple speeds), it can connect to an app on your phone via Bluetooth that’s meant to track if you’re adequately brushing every part of your mouth. (See the What about “smart” toothbrushes? section) The app shows an illustration of a mouth that starts out tinged yellow, and it gets whiter as you brush your teeth over the course of two minutes. The areas of your mouth that you fail to brush well enough will stay yellow, in theory. In reality, the location tracking wasn’t accurate enough to give us much useful information about this. The app divides the mouth into six areas, and it could reliably tell if I was neglecting either the front or back of teeth, but not if I was missing one specific tooth. The app also expects you to brush the areas of your mouth in a specific order, and if I moved the brush to a part of my mouth where the app wasn’t expecting it to be, it didn’t pick up on that. When a brush like this costs about as much as an uninsured office visit to a dentist, I’m going to stick to getting brushing advice from a professional.
I fully agree that the “extra features” are largely useless. But, bottom line, a powered brush makes sense based on everything I have seen. I don’t care if it’s Sonicare or OralB… both should be better than manual…
Two-minute timer: The single most recommended feature, a two-minute timer takes the guesswork out of your brushing sessions to ensure your teeth get enough time under the bristles. Brushing under the American Dental Association’s recommended two minutes can result in a less effective clean. Dr. Lawlor told us, “patients say they brush for three to five minutes, but when they brush in front of me it will be less than a minute.” Most electric toothbrushes now offer this reality-check timer as a standard feature, regardless of price.

  4. The best brush head to use from the range is the DiamondClean head, be that the Compact or Standard sized option.  The tightly compacted diamond shaped bristles create a stain-removal pad and offers a superior clean and can whiten teeth in just one week, through effective cleaning and stain removal.
I can’t really say how effective this is at killing germs as I have no idea how to test that, but let take the packaging at its word. How important is killing all those germs? I can’t say as I’m not a doctor either. I guess I use this product as a seat belt, just in case.
High ”bad” cholesterol and low ”good” cholesterol. High levels of ”bad” cholesterol, or low-density lipoprotein (LDL), are major contributors to arterial plaque formation. But that doesn’t tell the whole story. Everyone also has ”good” cholesterol, or high-density lipoprotein (HDL), circulating in the blood. HDL is believed to remove some of the bad cholesterol from plaque in clogged arteries and transport it back to the liver, where it is eliminated.
You use a vibrating sonic toothbrush, like the Philips Sonicare, the same way you do a manual toothbrush – by brushing in circular motions to reach all your teeth. There is some evidence that suggests vibrating brushes can clean areas where others can’t. The vibrations help dislodge plaque and send water and toothpaste into areas that other electric brushes may not reach. Users of sonic brushes often report that their mouth feels cleaner, which is a benefit itself.

  5. To follow through with our car analogy, if you buy an economy car you can expect that it will get you to your destination. But your experiences during your trip (acceleration up hills, smoothness of ride) aren’t going to be the same as if you had bought a Cadillac.
Most of the current higher-end Sonicares either are or were top-of-the-line models, or at least introduced some new brushing feature. There seemed to be a natural migration of models on down the Sonicare line up as each successive newer one was introduced.
Avoid sugary and starchy foods. The bacteria found in plaque thrive on sugary and starchy foods. In fact, every time you eat these kinds of foods, the bacteria release an acid which leads to tooth decay and cavities. To avoid this, try to minimize your consumption of these types of processed foods and pay special attention to your brushing and flossing routine if you decide to indulge.[4]
With the Sonicare line, buying a higher priced toothbrush doesn’t equate with getting a different brushing action. But there are some design and performance differences that may make a noticeable difference in your overall brushing experience.

Brushing under the American Dental Association’s recommended two minutes can result in a less effective clean. Like many modern day technological gadgets, sonic toothbrushes come with a variety of features. Each and every one of them is being promoted as helpful in regards to oral hygiene. Some modes claim to help you develop better habits while others insist on improving brushing technique and helping eliminate more plaque. Though some of those statements might hold a varying level of truth, we are not here to judge their validity.
