Where possible, we ask recipients to work toward increasing the number of people on public water systems who receive optimally fluoridated water. We also understand that maintaining the number of people served by CWF is critically important, as well; particularly in areas that already have a high proportion of the population receiving fluoridated water. So, yes, recipients should report on maintenance, too.
Regulations on the importation, labelling and sale of paan and associated products should be enacted and enforced alongside the regulations on sale and promotion of tobacco. Oral cancer rates amongst South Asian communities in the UK are higher than in the indigenous community. Effective prevention is dependent upon developing culturally sensitive interventions that address the social and structural basis of tobacco use amongst high risk populations. Sale of tobacco containing Paan (betel nut) is largely unregulated and many teenagers use these products.62

The single most continuous theme of preventive and public health dentistry has been and remains the cleaning of teeth [1]. In the present commentary “clean teeth” will be equated to good oral hygiene and/or low dental plaque levels. This simple objective has been difficult and at times not even possible to attain. The fundamental importance of oral hygiene, moreover, has often been controversial. Diocletian Lewis (1823–1886), an illegal medical practitioner, coined the adage “A clean tooth never decays”. Over the years, nevertheless, this has been heatedly contested. Many authors have advocated a narrow association between dental plaque levels and gingival disease. However in 1998, the European Workshop on Mechanical Plaque Removal clearly stated that “Forty years of experimental research, clinical trials and demonstration projects in different geographical and social settings have confirmed that effective removal of dental plaque is essential to dental and periodontal health throughout life” [2]. This statement, based upon an overwhelming abundance of evidence, is today commonly accepted.
For kids under 5, I recommend you order the smaller heads, HX6032 is the part number. You can save the head that comes with this brush for when they are more accustomed to the large size of the Sonicate Kids brush handle and original head. For my 4 year old, the original head was just too big.
The American Diabetes Association reports that there is an increased prevalence of gum disease among those with diabetes, adding serious gum disease to the list of health complications associated with diabetes (1).

Oral-B Pulsar toothbrush is battery operated to gently vibrate and polish away stains for a whiter, cleaner smile. Using the same technique to brush as a manual toothbrush, the bristles vibrate providing a gentle massaging and polishing action while brushing. The bristles penetrate between teeth where stain build-up often begins. Plus, the split head design moderates the amount of pressure applied to your teeth and gums. Contouring to your unique smile, the Pulsar toothbrush will leave your smile bright and clean with every use.
Greater Goods’s Sonic Electric Toothbrush costs less than any brush we’ve considered so far. However, the replacement heads come in only one style. And though heads are about half the price of those that accompany our top pick, I found myself needing to replace them in about half the time (the bristles got smashed down), virtually negating the long-term savings for this brush.

This toothbrush works great, comes with great extras as well. I am concerned about intermittent stopping. It has a preset time to brush before it turns off, however during that time it does stop for a split second before continuing. Is it supposed to do that, or is there something wrong. Other than that, I love the brush, charger and extras.
*Unofficial 2016 Impact Factor was established by dividing the number of articles published in 2015 and 2014 with the number of times they are cited in 2016 based on Google search and the Scholar Citation Index database. If ‘X’ is the total number of articles published in 2014 and 2015, and ‘Y’ is the number of times these articles were cited in indexed journals during 2015 than, impact factor = Y/X

Quality from the perspective of the individual patient should be considered separately from the perspective of the general public or the practice-population. Campbell and colleagues summarised quality for individual patients as; ‘whether individuals can access the effective care they need with a patient-centred focus on maximising health outcomes’, but that this has to be set against a population context that feeds in the concepts of equity and efficiency.2 This has been described as simplistic,22 but others have emphasised the dual foci of holistic, personalised care for individuals that is provided equitably at a population level.1,23 There is also a difference between horizontal equity: care that is equally accessible and equally effective for patients with the same degree of illness; and vertical equity: care that provides better access for patients with greater need.2,24
I’ve had many of these over the years, older and newer models. They all worked fine. The only thing I don’t like is that once the battery dies (stops holding charge), a mechanically perfect toothbrush has to be tossed out. Most lithium ion batteries last only 2-3 years. The last Oral-B I opened up had a 14430 lithium ion battery in it. Older models used NiMH and NiCd batteries.
More than half of the studies Cochrane researchers looked at involved rotating, oscillating electric toothbrushes featuring heads that spin swiftly in one direction and then the other. Other studies examined sonic toothbrushes that have vibrating brush heads; powered brushes that move side-to-side but don’t rotate; ones with tufts that move in different directions; as well as types that attempt to dislodge plaque via a mild electrical charge. The researchers didn’t draw conclusions about the best kind of brush.
All the staff are wonderful. They are kind and caring and I couldn’t be more pleased with their customer service. The staff are patient with my children, and my children are able to trust them, which makes the visits a much more success!
Your oral cavity collects all sorts of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Some of them belong there, making up the normal flora of your mouth. They’re generally harmless in small quantities. However, a diet high in sugar creates conditions in which acid-producing bacteria can flourish. This acid dissolves tooth enamel and causes dental cavities.
Is there anything leafy greens can’t fix? Because they’re high in vitamins and minerals while being low in calories, leafy greens—like kale, spinach, Swiss chard and collard greens—are a fool-proof way to keep teeth healthy. 1. Very few times do we get more than what we pay for. Sterline’s budget-friendly alternative falls into this category, combining advanced cleaning technology with great brushing tendencies into a compact design. Activating the toothbrush will get you 31,000 brushstrokes per minute, whereas the two built-in timers follow dentist orders by following the two-minute rule. That’s 30 seconds extra for cleaning all four quadrants of the mouth. It’s programmed to automatically turn off after two minutes to make sure no one over-brushes. You’d be lucky to score such technological facets in some of the higher-end models.
For as long as we’ve been going to dentists, they’ve been telling us to brush our teeth — and do it well. Experts at the American Dental Association suggest brushing teeth at least twice a day to prevent tooth decay. While this may seem like common knowledge, we were surprised to learn that neglecting your teeth can lead to even more serious problems.
These finger toothbrushes can be used on babies and toddlers. They come in a three-pack that has their own carrying cases so they’ll stay clean when not in use. The carrying cases make them great for travel as well.
Even better news for sensitive teeth folks: The ISSA 2 is also available as part of a sensitive teeth set with two brush heads. One is made entirely of super-soft silicone, the other combination PTP polymer, so you can switch out the stronger one for days when you need a more serious cleaning.
Recognizing the value of good oral health as an integral part of overall health, government sector and non-dental primary care professional organizations recently increased their engagement in, and support of, the integration of oral health and primary care at the institutional training and practice levels.34–36 Frontline primary care professionals, specifically nurses, physicians, and physician assistants, are members of the medical delivery system who are most likely to see vulnerable and underserved populations with limited or no access to dental services. This group of primary care professionals has the capacity to incorporate oral health information and the provision of preventive oral health services into their day-to-day practice. Concurrently, dental professionals can serve as key players in detecting chronic diseases such as diabetes, -hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia in dental practices. A recent study showed the potential savings to the health-care system from increased efforts to screen for chronic conditions in dental offices.37
Emergency dental clinic visits are just like a visit to your regular dentist’s office. Newark emergency dentists perform routine dental care services that include routine examinations and x-rays along with more complicated procedures like full mouth restorations.

  2. Mouth Sores: Also called canker sores, these painful bumps are the result of irritation to the soft tissue of your mouth. These sores can make brushing almost impossible. There are a number of different causes for sores, including anemia or a vitamin B-12 deficiency. As a result, your primary physician will have to examine the bump, find its root cause and then help develop a specific treatment plan, including the use of corticosteroids to reduce inflammation or antimicrobial mouthwash.
Do not snack before bedtime, because food left on the teeth is more likely to cause cavities at night. Saliva production decreases while you sleep, so saliva does not clean the mouth well during sleeping hours.

The last thing you want to be doing when you’re brushing your teeth is adding even more bacteria into the mix, and often just taking the head off and giving the toothbrush a good scrub with hot soapy water is enough to disinfect it once every few days.
The harmful effect of perceived current stress on oral pain was more pronounced for participants without dental insurance and of lower socioeconomic position. It is not unexpected that dental insurance conditioned the relationship between perceived current stress and oral pain since dental services are not publicly insured for residents of Toronto under Canada’s Medicare program. This pattern could indicate that those without insurance are not receiving adequate dental care (i.e., have unmet needs); for example, because they cannot afford to pay for service out-of-pocket [28–31].
I then looked up subjective factors. In particular, I was interested in comparing noise levels. I looked up videos on Youtube, and there’s no question that the Sonicare has a more pleasant buzzing sound vs. the more mechanical sound of the Oral-B.
Unit uses inductive charging (i.e coils of wire on the charger, coils of wire on the unit, transferring power just like a transformer would). There is a single NiMH battery inside; it looks like it’s AA size. It doesn’t look like it’s intended to be replaceable.
These are great brushes for the price. Will not ever purchase OEM brushes as long as these are still available. They are very durable and I haven’t seen any malfunctions or any difference in quality from OEM version.

  3. Preventive dentistry is key to long term oral health. Regular dental visits, x-rays, sealants, cleanings, fluoride, diet, protecting teeth from injury, and home oral hygiene are all integral in preventing more costly dental problems. Waiting to see a dentist until something hurts is not recommended. We like to catch problems before they progress to the point of pain and infection.
With the Philips Sonicare For Kids toothbrush and app, children can discover how to brush properly on their own. The app synchs with your kid’s sonic toothbrush via Bluetooth to show proper brushing techniques and track performance. Kids can see how well they brush, and earn exciting rewards for a job well done. Educational, and effective, 98% of parents surveyed say it’s easier to get their kids to brush longer and better. It’s the fun way to help kids develop healthy oral care habits that will last a lifetime.
You will still need to assist younger children. The power of this toothbrush can cause damage to young children’s teeth and gums without proper supervision. Young children — such as two and three year olds — may still need you to brush their teeth for them, to ensure they don’t cause unnecessary damage.
The larger number of household residents increases the chances of using public healthcare services. This may well be explained by the fact that the greater the number of household residents, the greater the number of dependents within a single family income and, consequently, less possibility of paying for healthcare services. The decision of which type of service to use is many times based on the needs of each individual within the family and who depend on the family income and not only on the needs of the head of the family or individual breadwinner. In a study on the elderly’s use of general healthcare services in the Southern regions of Brazil, it was noted that elderly people who are a part of larger families use private healthcare services less. Moreover, the increase of one member in this family further diminishes the chances of these elderly people using this private network by 15% [52]. In Norway, larger families also showed a lesser use of healthcare services in general [53]. The number of children can influence this use, considering the assumption that the more children, the larger the family. Both positive and negative associations with the use of healthcare services, regardless of the type of service used, have been reported in the literature. The findings, however, have not been consistent, given that the data used to associate the variables may well be influenced by the current healthcare system [46].
While all the other models of Philips Sonicare toothbrush use snap-on brush heads, the Essence uses screw-on. Screw-on brush heads take longer to install and remove, are more difficult to clean and offer less variety than the snap-on type.
As preventive care specialists, dental hygienists have been at the forefront of a number of important initiatives in New Hampshire to prevent against tooth decay, including the use of sealants, especially among children and those in underserved communities. But another role of hygienists is to encourage a model of wellness that is not limited to the mouth.
hahahahahaha. my dentist recommends Sonicare, and I’ve had two in my lifetime now (I’m on my second one, which is almost 5 years old and going strong – the one before that lasted I think 7 years?) worth every penny, especially when purchased at Costco.
The application of sealants is a recommended procedure to prevent or control caries. Sealing the occlusal surfaces of permanent molars in children and adolescents reduces caries up to 48 months when compared to no sealant, after longer follow-up the quantity and quality of the evidence is reduced. The review revealed that sealants are effective in high risk children but information on the magnitude of the benefit of sealing in other conditions is scarce. The relative effectiveness of different types of sealants has yet to be established.

The designs of these brushes are fairly similar. Each of these brushes features a power button on their faceplates, as well as an arrow key that allows you to shift between the different brushing modes. The Oral-B 6000 also features sensor ring near where the brush head attaches to the handle that will light up in the event that you brush too hard. The pressure sensor with the LED light on the 5000 and the 7000 is a little bit less obviously located in the back part of the brush near where the brush head and handle are joined.

Yes. If you need coaching to make sure you do your dental hygiene, especially if you have periodontal issues. The phone app is fun. I’ve been using a Philips Sonicare for a while, Definitely, it takes far less time in the dental chair to descale my teeth and there is less tartar on my trouble spots. The hygienist says she really can tell when I’m using the better toothbrush–so now I carry it with me on vacations. Can’t be without it. However, it’s not enough just to use the toothbrush.
I used an older version of the Rotadent for several years. It does a good job of cleaning teeth and gums. The new one works well. However, the clip for the clip on broke. I used super glue to fix it. That has been working for this clip. I hope it was just a defective one, and not what I can expect from future ones. The old Rotadent was superior in my opinion. Not sure why they changed the design.
