Probably the most common of all the brush heads, the CrossAction toothbrush head has a CrissCross bristle configuration set at a 16 degree angle to effectively clean teeth, along the gumline and reach deep in between teeth to loosen and remove up to 100% more plaque than a manual toothbrush.
According to dental health website AsktheDentist.com, sonic toothbrushes, which oscillate at astonishing rates – up to 31,000 strokes per minute at full speed – are more effective at reaching and removing plaque between the teeth and beneath the gum line than rotating electric toothbrushes, making a sonic toothbrush the best bet for anyone with gum issues, those who are lackadaisical about flossing, and the majority of people over age 40. Of course, in the oral hygiene field, sonic toothbrush generally means Sonicare, by far the biggest name in the industry.

Eat a variety of foods, but eat fewer foods that contain sugars and starches (for example, cookies, cakes, pies, candies, ice cream, dried fruits and raisins, soft drinks, potato chips). These foods produce the most acids in the mouth, which begin the decay process. If you do snack, brush teeth afterward or chew sugarless gum.
Modern electric toothbrushes run on low voltage, 12v or less. A few units use a step-down transformer to power the brush, but most use a battery, usually but not always rechargeable and non-replaceable, fitted inside the handle, which is hermetically sealed to prevent water damage. While early NiCd battery toothbrushes used metal tabs to connect with the charging base, modern toothbrushes use contactless inductive charging: the brush unit and charger stand each contain a coil of wire; when placed in proximity, the powered coil from the stand transfers power by induction to the handle, charging the battery.
Oral health is not independent of total health, and systemic health is impacted by oral health. Women’s oral health is greatly affected by their stage of life due to the effects of changing hormone levels on oral tissues during transitions from puberty to menstruation, and in pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause and post menopause. The impact of hormone levels on dental health is significant and long term, with hormone levels altering the relationships between oral disease and the initiation, progression and severity of several chronic diseases. Because of these hormonal fluctuations, women are particularly vulnerable to the impact of tooth loss, alveolar bone loss, periodontal disease, salivary changes, caries, changes in taste sensation and oral discomfort. Each of these oral health problems impact women’s total health. Thus, women need to undertake preventive strategies to maintain dental health throughout their lives in order to lessen the impact of poor dental health on systemic health.
– Replaceable battery vs. rechargeable; most electric toothbrush batteries end up going out completely after a year or two. I didn’t want to deal with having to dock my toothbrush and worrying about the impending doom regarding the charge going out, so I decided to get the AA-powered model that was cheaper. I instead am using recharegable AA batteries.
The reason I gave it 4 starts though is because it is not durable. A few months ago, it started to work on and off. It would work a bit, then not for a bit, then start again and so on. Suddenly, brushing teeth was not so easy, and became more time consuming and frustrating. I came here to share my experience in a review, when I read in another review that the warranty period for this toothbrush is two years. Thanks to Amazon, I knew the exact date I bought it, I registered the product with Philips, and after a short chat, a replacement is on the way.
“I can typically tell when somebody uses an electric toothbrush versus a manual toothbrush just by looking at their oral health,” says Sarah Thiel, RDH, CEO and co-founder of CE Zoom. “Their gums look amazing, and I don’t have to do a lot during the appointment.”
Although almost any toothbrush can do an effective job, research suggests there is one electronic toothbrush bristle configuration that seems to be better at removing plaque and preventing gum disease. Electric toothbrushes with bristles that rotate together in one direction, and then switch and rotate in the opposite direction — a process known as rotating-oscillating — appear to be more effective than manual brushes and other electric brushes that spin in only one direction. If you do opt for an electronic toothbrush, a model with rotating-oscillating bristles is probably your best bet.
Our commitment is that an additional 400,000 patients will have access to, or be registered with, an NHS dental service by March 2008. However, we acknowledge that this is a milestone on the path towards registration of all adults who may wish to do so. Our goal is to secure access to dental services for all who need them.
One last thing to point out: there have been a few studies that prove electric toothbrushes remove statistically significant more plaque compared to manual toothbrushes and are better at fighting gum disease. Despite the studies, your oral health will remain healthy (despite which type of toothbrush you use) as long as you consistently take care of your teeth. If you are on the fence of buying a powered toothbrush, talk to one of our dentists the next time you come in for a teeth cleaning.
You may also use an electric toothbrush that has the American Dental Association (ADA) seal of approval. Studies show that powered toothbrushes with a rotating and oscillating (back-and-forth) action are more effective than other toothbrushes, including other powered toothbrushes.2
A few recent studies have shown associations between poor oral health and coronary heart disease (CHD). The objective of this study was to examine the incidence of CHD in relation to number of teeth present and periodontal disease, and to explore potential mediators of …
Some dentists offer discount coupons for new patients for a cleaning, exam and X-rays for $40-$90. Always check an unfamiliar dentist with the American Dental Association[4] , and the Better Business Bureau[5] . Some CostHelper readers report feeling pressured to pay for additional services when using a coupon for a low-cost teeth cleaning.
Because an electric toothbrush has moving parts within it, these can wear out too.  They are generally tried and tested, but everything has a life and motors can burn out or fail and connections of cables etc can come lose, particularly if a handle takes a few knocks and falls.
However, there is also the problem of how many charging cycles a battery can take. The less expensive batteries will lose the ability to “hold a charge” much sooner than a more expensive battery. Again, you get what you pay for!
As Xiaomi – very good build quality, packaging. App Mi Home usage without problems. It found even item in closed package via BT. First days of use a little bit different to switch from usual tooth brush but this is not a problem.
Teeth cleaning appointments for new patients typically also include an exam and X-rays, and periodically (perhaps once a year) include these services for returning patients. If a patient shows signs of early gum disease, the dentist may recommend teeth cleanings be done three or four times a year, instead of once or twice; the extra appointments generally won’t be covered by insurance.
A guy did a full-on replacement of the Oral-B’s native battery with a standard AA Eneloop. He didn’t have to do anything besides solder new leads to the battery and it worked tremendously well – in fact, the brush held its charge far better and worked more effectively with the Eneloop.

What do I mean by that statement, you ask! Well, as you may have seen advertised, this new range of brushes from Oral-B are designed to be used like a manual brush. They are designed to be  held and moved around the teeth in the same way.
I’m a 47 year-old West Loop resident and received my first set of braces when I was 11 years old (back in the days when braces also had “headgear” affixed to them). I was in braces/headgear/retainers/permanent retainers/Invisalign and bonding agents for the subsequent 26 years. That all changed when I fortunately stumbled in to PDS in 2010 while strolling my neighborhood.
Though not a requirement, mouthwash can be helpful if used to supplement proper brushing and flossing. Most mouthwash brands contain chlorine dioxide, a chemical that targets the majority of oral bacterial strains. However, don’t overuse mouthwash, as it can cause a number of ailments.

One of the first toothbrushes being reviewed is the Nimbus Microfine tooth brush. It was designed by a periodontist to safely and effectively clean teeth and gums. This brush has two distinct types of soft bristles, which are long-tapered bristles that are very fine and short support bristles. The long-tapered bristles are designed to reach those hard to clean areas and the shorter bristles are made to effectively remove plaque.

The Oral-B smartphone app is also available for the Pro 7000 model. At first, we were a bit skeptical about the effect that the app would have on brushing habits. But, after using the toothbrush for a week, we got really motivated to pursue that perfect score! In addition, the app is really easy to use, loads fast, and it appears to be bug-free.

  1. If you have a partner, they will thank you, if you have lots of restorative dentistry you will make it last and last saving you hassle, discomfort and money, and if you have minimal dentistry it will keep you disease free.  It is a gift you give to yourself and something that you can selfishly do for just you that will have a profound impact on your dental health, your general health, your life expectancy, and your quality of life.  The key is simply willingness.  If you have any questions on flossing, brushing, or Waterpic use please feel free to ask me or my staff.  These are learned skills that respond well to coaching, and we are always here to help you in any way we can!

If you’re among those who rarely or never floss, consider adding this practice to your daily routine. One way to improve your odds of making this a daily habit — especially if your excuse is lack of time — is to build up slowly. On the first day, simply floss a single tooth. The next day, do two. On Day Three, floss three teeth, and so on, until you’re in the habit of flossing your entire mouth each day.

For a chronic toothbrush abuser—I go through a toothbrush every couple of weeks—this brush is ideal. My dentist is always nagging me about brushing my teeth too hard. I don’t actually brush with this one, I just hold it and move it around a bit which is much easier on the gums and the brush. It cleans effectively. I don’t know about the sonic power claim, but it’s a great basic toothbrush.
