i’m on my 3rd week using the Quip after my Sonicare died and I’ve been quite happy. so much so that i think you ought to consider it in your next comparo. Part of my reason I picked this up was because I found dying $100 toothbrushes just outside the warranty aren’t my thing. the moment you start relying on such complex things that break down it’s a good moment to dial down and reconsider.
We’ll go ahead and mark the other FlexCare Platinum Connected model off our list as well, and the DiamondClean Smart brushes too. That’s because they’re teched-up to interact with Sonicare’s smartphone brushing app.
I considered travel convenience since I am on the move a lot. Both come with travel cases. Oral-B is a nicer looking black case. The Oral-B is made by Braun, and the travel charger uses the same kind of plug as my Braun Series 9.
The other week we put together a buyer’s guide to Oral-B Electric Toothbrushes, this week we have a guide to Sonicare toothbrushes. We’re going to navigate through all the Sonicare toothbrushes and brush heads and talk about their features (highlighting the unique ones) and prices to see which have the most to offer.
The Philips Sonicare toothbrush completes 62,000 bristle movements in just two minutes. Make sure every one of them is maximally effective by stocking up on extra Sonicare toothbrush heads and switching to a new one every three months. Explore what is available within the large inventory on eBay, whether you just need a single replacement head or would rather make a bulk purchase. Many Philips Sonicare toothbrush replacement heads are angled, so you can easily reach all tooth surfaces and scrub plaque easily off those hard-to-reach areas on your molars or wisdom teeth. Some feature soft bristles to clean sensitive teeth thoroughly without causing irritation. Go with Sonicare compact toothbrush heads if you own one of the brand’s smaller, travel-friendly models. Some have the bristles arranged in a circular or diamond-like shape, making them look similar to the tools that dentists use. Sonicare toothbrush heads are great to keep handy in your bathroom cabinet, and they are also practical extras to include when you give someone one of these innovative toothbrushes as a gift and want to make sure he or she has all the necessary supplies to go with it.
People used to think that as you got older you naturally lost your teeth. We now know that’s not true. By following easy steps for keeping your teeth and gums healthy – plus seeing your dentist regularly — you can have your teeth for a lifetime!
I find this very interesting. I have never had an electric toothbrush last more than a couple of years before the battery dies out (slowly at first, then completely). I am actually on this discussion board because the battery on the Oral B, bought approx. 2-3 years ago, now needs an every-other-day charge.
It’s a more simple model. It offers only a cleaning mode. It has one timer for two minutes of brushing but does not have a quad pacer. For some people, it’s important, while for others a 2-minute timer is enough.
“Really great toothbrush for anyone; even adults can use it, but just takes a little more effort. It effectively cleans out anything from my teeth and helps keep my teeth looking great. The inductive recharge is great for saving battery, and it’s very easy to hold in your hands. The only downside to this is that the water can drip down from the brush and onto the charging platform, and can leave water stains, but that can be fixed with a wet cloth or napkin.”
These numbers don’t mean that you can’t be just as effective in removing plaque with either a manual or conventional toothbrush. But due to their high rate of speed, it’s easy to see why sonics make a good, efficient brushing choice.
Like many others, I just want to thank you for all your time in putting this together. Wish I’d found this before I spent the HOURS I did trying to research all these models on the web and in the stores. Needless to say I was pleased to see that the Healthy White+ which I ended up buying was your “best buy”. Like another reviewer said, you should review everything in the world.
I thought the point was to leave it on the charging dock. “Every other day”? I leave mine charging, the battery is great. When I need to travel for a weekend the battery more than accomplishes the task.. I have no expectations greater than that with a brand new toothbrush.
– DiamondClean, Adaptive Clean, InterCare, ProResults, Plaque Control, Gum Care, Sensitive, Simply Clean, TongueCare+, e-Series, BrushSync heads. | Replacement intervals and indicators. | Click-on vs. Screw-on heads.
The exception being, that the C3 Premium Plaque Control, G3 Premium Gum Care & W3 Premium White will not automatically select the optimum cleaning mode or offer reminders to the brush handle, unless used with the DiamondClean Smart or another brush with BrushSync mode pairing.
It can easily be argued that each brush head within the Sonicare range is specialist, in that they are each designed to do something specific. However, the following are even more specialist. Technically, these are not brush heads, they are nozzles.
Tooth decay (cavities) is a common problem for people of all ages. For children, untreated cavities can cause pain, absence from school, difficulty concentrating on learning, and poor appearance, all problems that greatly affect quality of life and ability to succeed. Children from lower income families often do not receive timely treatment for tooth decay and are more likely to suffer from these problems. Tooth decay also is a problem for many adults. Adults of some racial and ethnic groups experience more untreated decay.
Once you dock your brush handle in the Aura Clean Base Station (brush side down), the cleaning and drying cycle will automatically begin. While the cleaning cycle is happening, the LED light on the side of the base will turn from white to blue and pulse. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, it will turn back to solid white. Your brush will also charge while it is sitting in the dock, provided that the dock is connected to a power source.
Sonicare Essence is the best among the basic sonic toothbrushes. It’s got nice features for an effective cleaning and for an affordable price. However, for those who want more features like a quadpacer, more modes, and a more sleek design, the above options are more suitable.
I like the product very much. I just received it yesterday, but I was having trouble with the connection. The usb did not fit well into the plug provided by the product. The light did not go on, so I knew it was not cleaning the brush. I connected the usb to my cell phone charger plug and it works well. I would like the company to send me a replacement plug, so I don’t have to use my cell charger.

On the Amazon page you mention we see a claim of “proven to reduce gingivitis up to 100% better than a manual toothbrush.” However on the company’s website couldn’t find a page detailing this “study.” (Their website also seemed to lack information about a physical address for the company, or even what company actually owned/ran this business. Even their domain name registration hid this information.)
“I like the Oral B Braun brush for its circumferential action on the tooth surface,” says David Tecosky, a Philadelphia-based dentist. A pressure sensor lets you know when you’re brushing too hard, and an in-handle timer pulses every 30 seconds to signal that it’s time to move to a different part of your mouth.
Good to know. I am in California too and thinking of becoming a RDH. I also considered sonography and nursing but think this might be the right choice. I am currently a massage therapist and it’s just too physically demanding and also super inconsistent as it is not a necessity but a luxury to most people. I hear that RDH is physical too but I feel maybe less so? Or possibly just different. I love the idea of not working 5 days as I do lots of things and the hours are way better than nursing and sonography. At this point in life I would prefer not to work late nights, on call or all weekends and holidays. There has to be a balance in everything.
The Pro 1000 is rated to last for seven days of brushing sessions on one charge; in our real-world testing, it lasted for 11½ days, which is average for a brush in this price range. Like the more expensive models we tested, the brush survived its drop test, fits in its charging cradle well, and can switch out brush heads easily. Oral-B changes the name of this brush about once a year, but functionally the entire series remains pretty much the same.
For those who have sensitive teeth, we recommend the Oral-B 1000. Unlike its sonic counterparts, the Oral-B 1000 provides around 8,000 strokes per minute, meaning you won’t feel as much of a tickling sensation on your teeth. This sensation can be very uncomfortable to some, which makes the Oral-B an excellent choice. The Oral-B 1000’s bare-bones approach to features allows you to just focus on improving your dental care. In addition to our must-have two-minute timer, this $30 pick simply offers a quad-pacer to ensure an even brush for all your teeth. We like this minimal approach, because it shifts your attention to what matters most: proper brushing technique. The Oral-B 1000 is also compatible with a variety of different brushing heads for your personal comfort needs.
Unlike dental assistants, whose job duties must generally be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist, dental hygienists perform much of their work independently, with only general supervision from a licensed dentist.
4. Job outlook (especially in my home state of Texas) I am willing to relocate to any part of Texas or across the country for my job if need be. (I have already moved across the ccountry because one of my parents had a job opportunity).
Consider a toothbrush sanitizer. While studies do not show any particular benefit to these devices, you can purchase one that has been cleared by the FDA. Toothbrush sanitizers kill up to 99.9% of bacteria on the brush. (Sterilizing means that 100% of bacteria and living organisms have been killed, and no commercial toothbrush cleaner can claim this.)
Peripheral artery disease. If plaque builds up in the blood vessels that carry blood to your legs, it can reduce the amount of oxygen delivered. The reduced blood flow can cause you to experience pain, numbness, or serious infection in your legs and feet.
Coronary artery disease. When plaque accumulates in the arteries carrying blood to the heart, it results in coronary artery disease, or heart disease. Coronary artery disease can cause chest pain or shortness of breath. This condition can lead to heart attacks and is the leading cause of death in the United States.
An advice to the Flecare+ is to also buy the diamond clean brush heads for even a smoother cleaning feeling or even the adaptive clean brush heads (The adaptive clean heads I think are very good but those I have not tried yet). The Flexcare brush head is very good to remove tartar, but the diamond clean makes your teeth even more silky and glossy and maybe slightly more comfortable to brush with, but already the Flexcare brush head is extremely good for the silky feeling.
DiamondClean brush heads are Sonicare’s newest Snap-On brush heads and come in standard and compact sizes. What is so special about them is that have a diamond shaped bristles pack together in a higher density bristle field (44% more bristles in the standard size and 23% in the compact size) to help sweep away more plaque. From what I can gather, it appears that the claims of better cleaning with the DiamondClean toothbrush have more to do with the brush head than that particular model of toothbrush so you might try this brush head on another model and get a similar result. The one problem I see is that bristles are advertised as medium-stiffness, which can be harsh on the the gums and exposed tooth roots and cause toothbrush abrasion if you are not careful.
Currently, there is no research that supports the notion that more settings and modes provide a better cleaning. However, it is a good enough reason for manufacturers to offer such toothbrushes at a higher price.
Replace your toothbrush every three to four months. If it is electric, replace the head every three to four months. Do so sooner if you notice the bristles are bent or fraying, or if colored bristles are fading.
Greater Goods’s Sonic Electric Toothbrush costs less than any brush we’ve considered so far. However, the replacement heads come in only one style. And though heads are about half the price of those that accompany our top pick, I found myself needing to replace them in about half the time (the bristles got smashed down), virtually negating the long-term savings for this brush.
Mouthwash kills the germs in your mouth, so it seems logical that it could kill those germs on your toothbrush too! Just soak your toothbrush bristles in mouthwash for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly with hot water. (thanks Rachel)
All Sonicare toothbrushes come with a brush head to help you benefit from the incredible cleaning power of the brand’s sonic technology. Like manual toothbrushes, the power toothbrush heads become worn due to the friction of brushing and can begin to harbor bacteria over time. As a result, Sonicare recommends that the brush heads for all of their models be replaced every 3 months. This helps to keep Sonicare toothbrushes sanitary and functioning at their best. In addition to the standard brush heads sold with Sonicare products, the brand also offers specialty heads that can be used in a variety of their sonic toothbrush models. These heads can help you to address oral care concerns that you may have, such as reducing staining from drinking coffee and tea or removing more plaque from along the gum line. By choosing the right head for your Sonic toothbrush, you can optimize the cleaning power of the sonic movements to better meet the needs of your teeth and gums.
