A helpful on-handle timer buzzes every 30 seconds to let you know when it’s time to focus on brushing the next quadrant of your mouth. The electric toothbrush also alerts you when you have brushed for the dentist-recommended time of 2 minutes.
Electric toothbrushes: Children love gadgets and electric toothbrushes are no exception. All they have to do is turn on the toothbrush and let it do all the work. Some toothbrushes even come with timers to help your child brush for the recommended two minutes each session. Or you can sing or play a song for them for two minutes.
Size. The best toothbrush head for you should allow you easy access to all surfaces of your teeth. For most adults, a toothbrush head a half-inch wide and one-inch tall will be the easiest to use and the most effective. Though there are larger toothbrush heads available, you may find that it is difficult to maneuver them to clean certain hard-to-reach areas, such as the sides and backs of your molars. The toothbrush should have a long enough handle so you can comfortably hold it in your hand.
Preparation – first a dental professional will cover you with a heavy lead apron to protect your body from the radiation. Next the dental professional will insert a small apparatus, made of plastic, into your mouth and ask you to bite down on it.
poor oral health affects

My number one tip for patients is to brush and floss at least twice daily. I recommend they make the switch to using a rechargeable power toothbrush, like one from the Oral-B Professional Care Series. It reduces and reverses gingivitis for healthier gums in 30 days.
Brush Head: Does the electric toothbrush you are planning to buy have a permanent or a replaceable brush head? Even though toothbrushes with fixed heads are cheaper, those with replaceable heads are convenient. You do not have to buy an entire toothbrush whenever bristles start falling apart. No matter the type you choose, make sure that bristles have rounded and non-irritant designs. The head should also fit comfortably in your mouth without scratching your cheeks or irritating your gums or teeth.
A Goby subscription keeps your bristles at their best, all the time. Subscribers receive fresh brush heads every 1, 2 or 3 months, free shipping and $15 off the Goby brushkit. At $6 or less per head, it’s a no-brainer. Modify or cancel your subscription at any time.

Improving Access to Oral Health Care for Vulnerable and Underserved Populations examines the scope and consequences of inadequate access to oral health services in the United States and recommends ways to combat the economic, structural, geographic, and cultural factors that prevent access to regular, quality care. The report suggests changing funding and reimbursement for dental care; expanding the oral health work force by training doctors, nurses, and other nondental professionals to recognize risk for oral diseases; and revamping regulatory, educational, and administrative practices. It also recommends changes to incorporate oral health care into overall health care. These recommendations support the creation of a diverse workforce that is competent, compensated, and authorized to serve vulnerable and underserved populations across the life cycle.
The first ultrasonic toothbrush, first called the Ultima and later the Ultrasonex, was patented in the U.S. in 1992, the same year the FDA gave it approval for daily home use. Initially, the Ultima worked only on ultrasound, but a few years later, a motor was added to give the Ultrasonex brush additional sonic vibration. Today, several ultrasonic toothbrushes simultaneously provide both ultrasound and sonic vibration.[8] In more modern times, electric toothbrushes have been used as a substitute for vibrators for those that wish to avoid embarrassment.[9]
Survey years/frequency: The survey is carried out every 10 years. The first survey was conducted in 1968 with follow-ups in 1978, 1988, 1998 and 2009. Scotland did not take part in the 2009 survey; from 2008 onwards data on adult dental health in Scotland will be available via the Scottish Health Survey, with the first results published in 2009.
Are you struggling with plaque-removal? Have you tried using many different remedies with poor results? Buy Philips Sonicare Essence Sonic toothbrush. Considered among the most effective electric toothbrushes in stores, it cleans teeth well. It also fights plaques and has an ergonomic handle that most people find fun to use.
Currently, within GDS, there are over 400 different items of service and an equivalent number of patient charges for adults. Until 1990, dentists’ payments were made only on completion of a treatment/course of treatment and this represented over 90% of the dentist’s earnings. The introduction of capitation and continuing care payments in 1990 has changed this marginally, as have the more recent additional payments of practice allowances in Scotland. However an estimated 70% of dentist’s earnings remains on payment of item of service.
One very good option is to use an electric toothbrush instead of a manual toothbrush. In case you wonder why do I think that using an electric toothbrush is better than using a manual toothbrush, then you can read below a few advantages you get when using an electric toothbrush. In the same time I’ll also try to write all the disadvantages you may have in case you buy and electric toothbrush.
Electric toothbrushes offer patients a variety of advantages, no matter their oral condition, says Tina Clarke, RDH. These brushes do the work for them, with many even featuring a timer to ensure patients brush for a full two minutes, as well as a pressure indicator light to let patients know when they’re brushing too hard and possibly damaging their gums. Clarke describes it as brainless brushing; all patients have to do is move the brush from tooth to tooth, whether they’re using Phillips Sonicare brushes that penetrate deep below the gum line to disrupt the bacterial environment or round Oral-B brush heads that oscillate in a half-circle motion to remove biofilm from the tooth surface.
There is a crib to build, and there are baby showers to attend, but preparing for the health of your baby is of the greatest importance. To ensure strong, sound teeth for your little one, scheduling a prenatal dental care checkup for yourself should top your to-do list.
For enhancing the potential effect of the whitening head, it is best, although not essential to use with an electric toothbrush from Oral-B that offers a Whitening mode. The specially programmed oscillations and rotations will ensure the best possible whitening is achieved.
Prior to getting the deep gum clean i was not flossing and suffered bad breath and bleeding gums. As a result I lost two teeth. After the clean and useing a mouth wash called Savacol for ten days I found a big difference straight away!! I no longer had a unpleasent taste in my mouth nor did I have bleeding gums and bad breath. The dentist did it in two sessions costing me $152 Australian dollars per session. If only I knew that this procedure excisted I would of had it done sooner which would of saved me money and pain.(I was getting my teeth cleaned every 6 months but not the deep gum clean). My dentist said I should get the deep gum clean done every 3 months, this is to expensive for me. I now floss I feel that my gums are in good condition so I will be getting the deep gum clean done twice a year and see how that goes. Being 34 years old I found it to be shocking that i lost two teeth and had to folk out $4,000 for an implant! I think it’s worth Investing the time and money for this procedure once you lose a tooth its gone forever!

The brushes are a little stiffer than what I’ve been used to. But this seems to make them more effective at cleaning. And they don’t injure my gums when using the cleaning unit on low speed for the gums.
One of the greatest barriers to oral health care is a lack of dental services. This can be called the greatest unmet oral health need in the United States.14,15 Many people living in the United States have poor oral health due to lack of access to care, because oral health is not universally integrated into primary or behavioral health-care services. As a result, dental care is usually set apart from other types of health care.

“The Sonicare toothbrush is a workhorse. There’s no doubt about that. If you inspect the back of your teeth, you can usually see a small layer of plaque. Well, the Sonicare toothbrush is your answer to the best at home cleaning, after about two days of brushing, my teeth were noticeably cleaner. My colleagues were asking me if I whitened my teeth lol. I can never go back to a manual toothbrush. 32,000 brush strokes a minute, think about that. If you care about how your teeth look, then this is a great investment.”
I find these are much better than the standard heads: the extra brush really helps massage the gums without irritating them. My only complaint is they drip water *terribly* compared to the standard heads. You have to spend a lot more time per week cleaning the body and charging base. Quite annoying actually, but maybe worth the better brushing experience.

  1. Oral health is a critical area of educational need throughout Maine. Many health care professionals have turned their attention towards the relationship between oral health and overall health, as poor oral health can be associated with systemic disease.
What’s good (and what’s not) about the Philips Sonicare Healthy White electric toothbrush? Sonicare Healthy White, a highly rated electric toothbrush that consistently gets rave reviews from users, is a mid-range offering in the Philips Sonicare line. Its popularity comes from the combination of an economical price
If you’re thinking about getting a powered toothbrush, talk with Dr. Jon Erickson at Danville Family Dentistry first. He can offer recommendations on the type of powered toothbrush you should use based on your oral health conditions and individual needs.
What’s arguably more an issue is the availability of said brush heads and Philips and Oral-B win out here as well. We’ve only ever seen Panasonic and Emmi Dental heads online, and please note that the latter brand also requires you to buy a specific brand of premium-priced toothpaste for it to work properly. Which seems a bit cheeky, to be honest.
Slightly more expensive again, at around the $50 level (WITH MY SPECIAL DISCOUNT CODE) but a great choice (if is the Amden Cybersonic3 ( read a review of this toothbrush). Although it is normally priced at just under $100, it is frequently available on the company website for under $50, with my special discount code. At that price, it is a bargain! I REALLY like the Cybersonic3. Go to the review page link above to find out more about this brush, and to get the special discount code and link to the Amden sales page!

  2. Each Oral-B toothbrush head’s unique design is inspired by the round shape of professional dental cleaning tools. The shape allows the bristles to surround each tooth for individual cleaning, resulting in an amazing, tooth-by-tooth clean. Watch the interactive demo above to see the toothbrush head in action.

Best for Clean Freaks: The SR-3000 is marketed to compete against Phillips Sonicare toothbrushes. It has a 25 percent faster bristle speed, making it better at cleaning gums and fighting plaque. It comes with 3 different heads (standard, compact and interdental) and a vibrating timer and pacer.
It stopped working this morning. I’ve noticed the lagging of toothbrush head spinning for nearly a week. Finally, I decided to try to not leave the handle on charger overnight last night after brushing my teeth. This morning, the toothbrush stopped working before the 2 minutes timer came on.
via rotadent.comThe Rotadent Procare is the top choice of Ira J. Handschuh, DDS, a general and cosmetic dentist at The Dental Design Center in White Plains, New York and New York City. “The Rotadent, fabricated by Dentsply, is a high-quality brush due to its wonderful bristle texture and fantastic brush head size and shape,” Dr. Handschuh tells Reader’s Digest. “Patients can choose from a long or short tip, as well as both flat brush heads and pointy brush heads. All brush head diameters are small enough to accommodate patients with small mouths too. These options allow patients with all types of needs, such as those who have braces or lots of gum recession, to utilize the brush. The pointy brush head allows the bristles to get into spaces that are often difficult to reach with other brushes. Another nice feature is that the brush will shut down automatically if patients push too hard on the gums or teeth. Without this feature, patients can actually do harm to the architecture that support the teeth.”
The size and design of the product doesn’t make sense, as it constantly falls over when we try to put in or take out our toothbrushes. Once the brushes are inside, it stands up fine, but we bought it so it would be easier and cleaner to store our toothbrushes. It definitely has not made it any easier, OR cleaner as they fall onto the dirty sink counter! My wife has resorted to another product, so we are pretty disappointed with this purchase.

  3. Respiratory infections: The Journal of Periodontology warns that gum disease could cause you to get infections in your lungs, including pneumonia. While the connection might not be completely obvious at first, think of what might happen from breathing in bacteria from infected teeth and gums over a long period of time.

Cost and availability. “It’s inexpensive and accessible,” says Ictech-Cassis. “This is the toothbrush that the majority of dentists give away.” Electric toothbrushes may simply be too expensive for many people, so it’s nice to know that you can do a great job brushing with a manual toothbrush.
The next evolution of the toothbrush took place in 1938 when nylon bristles were used instead of animal hair. A company called DuPont de Nemours introduced the first toothbrushes with nylon bristles. These were much more comfortable than boar hair. Boars, vegetarians, Muslim people and Jewish people (who don’t consume animal or pork products) breathed a sigh of relief. The first such toothbrush was called Dr. West’s Miracle-Tuft Toothbrush.
A primary care dentist (PCD) is the principal dental care provider for an insured patient under a dental maintenance organization (DMO) insurance plan. This dentist is responsible for coordinating and integrating dental care for the patient. The PCD serves as a gateway to dental specialists. Insured patients under this sort of dental plan must obtain a referral from their primary care dentist before they can visit a specialist. This approach may keep dental costs lower for patients and insurance companies, while allowing access to a wider scope of services and better quality care.
Another toothbrush cleaner with elite cleaning power, this portable sterilizer was designed for universal fit – accommodating all manual and most electric toothbrushes. It seamlessly kills up to 99.9% of bacteria. An automatic timer also helps to save battery life with a 5-minute shutoff timer so to never over-sanitize and wear down bristles.
When it comes to proper dental care, finding the best toothbrush is vital for maintaining a healthy smile. Since ancient times, people have understood the importance of keeping their teeth clean. At one point in history, they were made from bone and the rough hair from boars, hogs, and other animals. Luckily, the evolution of the toothbrush has come a long way since that time.
Since the quip toothbrush runs on one AAA ordinary alkaline battery, you don’t have to worry about charging it up for your first brushing session. All you need to do is remove it from the package, rinse the bristles, add a pea-sized blob of toothpaste, press the q button on the handle and brush your teeth.
I don’t see any indication in the discussion as to the multi-voltage capabilities of the chargers associated with the rated items. I think that that is a vital consideration for any electronic drive that you might travel with. I am now on my 2nd electric toothbrush (a Sonicare R910 that I have had several years). The charger can handle the 220-240 voyage range common in most of the world. It replaced an older Sonicare base model (battery died) whose charger could only handle US voltages, and, thus, was useless for foreign travel of more than a few days.

  4. Tooth brushing is an essential part of a daily hygiene routine, not to mention overall well-being. Dentists widely agree that electric toothbrushes are superior to manual brushes when it comes to maintaining dental health: They get at hard-to-reach areas, massage gums, attack plaque, and clean effectively (assuming proper technique). They sell at prices ranging from as little as $5 to nearly $200. culled the best electric toothbrushes under $50 based on scores of expert and user reviews. Each of our picks provides a thorough and comfortable cleaning experience, and many include a few extras, such as a timer and different brushing modes.
I read reviews that said it tips overs so was skeptical about purchasing this. However, it seemed like the perfect solution for our Oral B toothbrush head since we no longer have a medicine cabinet. Good news….have owned it for about one month and it has not tipped over once. My husband is not exactly what you might call “gentle” either and he has no issues with it whatsoever. It looks good and is very functional and low profile.
If any toothbrush can give you the same clean if you’re brushing properly, why not just buy a cheap manual one? There are many reasons why people prefer electrics like quip (a more enjoyable clean, fresher feeling, less wasteful product) but the most important are health ones. Unfortunately, most people brush badly, brushing too hard for too short a time, not changing brush heads or visiting the dentist on time, and up to 50% not even brushing twice a day (!), so dentists recommend electric brushes as they are a proven way to help people brush softer and for longer. But even if you believe you are brushing the right way, for long enough, quip will still enhance your routine through our subscription service that ensure you are changing your brush head every 3 months, are getting the latest oral health tops every month and reminded and rewarded for visiting the dentist on time.

There are many forms of preventive dentistry, such as daily brushing and dental cleanings. To maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visits to the dentist at regular intervals determined by a dentist. These practices are designed to ensure that teeth are clean, strong, and white. Children should be taught proper oral hygiene at an early age.
In one study, a group of volunteers were followed for three weeks as researchers examined the impact of brushing on their teeth after they drank diet soda. The scientists found an increase in dentin loss when brushing in the 20 minutes after drinking soda. But there was considerably less wear when brushing took place 30 or 60 minutes afterward.”
Another example of a community development initiative directly relevant to oral health are food co-operatives. The establishment of fruit and vegetable food co-operatives within deprived neighbourhoods lacking access to cheap and appealing healthy foods increases the food choices available to these communities.69

For the affluent elderly, dental expenditures will continue to be made from discretionary or expendable income, but for the low-income elderly in the United States, financial options to pay for dental care are limited. Medicaid, available to some, varies from state to state both in the types of dental care reimbursed and in the age groups covered. Even when the patient does qualify, few services are covered beyond basic preventive therapy, direct-fill restorations, extractions, and dentures. A mechanism does exist for using Supplemental Social Security Income to pay for needed dental services if the patient resides in a long-term care facility, termed Incurred Medical Expenses (IME). (See Suggested Readings and Resources at the end of this chapter.)
If a toothbrush differs significantly from previously accepted toothbrushes, the Council may request clinical studies to demonstrate that the toothbrush could be used without supervision by an average adult to achieve a significant decrease in mild gum disease and plaque over a 30-day period.16
For the 1 year this worked it was a great toothbrush. The battery lasted a very long time between charges (upwards of a month per charge with twice daily use of full 2-minute cycles) and the 3 different vibration settings added a nice touch. If only it didn’t up and die on me!!!!
Seniors living in long-term care facilities are at particular risk of complications from poor oral health because of frailty, poor health and increased dependence on others for personal care. In many cases, oral health problems in residents go undetected until there are acute symptoms, such as pain or infection.

  6. The coordination of primary and secondary care services is less amenable to guidance and probably presents the greatest challenge. In a study comparing referrals to specialist orthodontic practitioners with a consultant-led unit9 it was found that referring dentists did not discriminate between the different services, the two specialist groups in effect competing rather than complementing each other.

“The indiscriminate routine use of antibacterial mouthwash products may cause more harm than good, in light of recent studies, and further supported by findings from this study … Mouthwash use may also have a detrimental impact on diabetes control and possible complications, as these share some common … pathways with blood pressure and diabetes.”
The goal of preventive dentistry is to prevent any pathology, cavities, infections, etc. from ever happening to any patient. It is achieved by placing the patient on a regular periodic maintenance, i.e. for periodic dental checkups. Also by ensuring the patient is mainting good oral hygiene on a regular, consistent basis.
An extensive review of the literature search was done (electronic and manual) which engaged most of the articles published in peer-reviewed journals relating to the subject of primary care in dentistry. The review itself began with the search of relevant key words linked with the dental and medical profession like primary care, dental health, dental office, dentistry, oral physicians etc. in various search engines including PubMed, MEDLINE, etc. Reports published only in English language were included in the review. The spotlight of the present review would not only be on primary care interventions which can be performed in the dental clinic or office but also on the modification of dental education curriculum. The review also targeted status of primary care in the dental profession in India and willingness of the Indian dentists to perform primary care procedures.

Many Minnesota children are now receiving care because their state allows dentists to hire dental therapists like Becker. These professionals—midlevel providers akin to physician assistants—provide routine prevention and treatment services, such as filling cavities and placing temporary crowns.
