There’s no need to replace the heads when they get dirty. Just soak them in cup with 25% bleach and 75% water for 15 minutes and they’ll be good as new. I’ve been doing this for years and they haven’t worn out yet.
Use the correct brushing technique. When brushing your teeth, hold the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle against the gum line and sweep the brush away from the gums, in a short vertical, back-and-forth, or circular motions. Try not too scrub too hard, as this can actually damage the enamel on your teeth and cause high sensitivity to any type of stimulus.
1. Pull the brush head away from the brush handle with a small amount of force to release the connection. There will likely be a click and you will revel a metal prong that is the shaft that connects to the motor. The head is now detached.
The crux of this issue is that the Sonicare has no clinical evidence to show that it’s better at cleaning than a normal brush whereas the Oral-B does. Lots of it. You can click the links and read the papers for yourself.
Keep your toothbrush away from the toilet. Most people will often place their brushes by the toilet. It has been found that some bacteria become airborne during flushing. You don’t want that on your brush!
Our testing showed that sensitive modes will reduce the speeds of the toothbrush, which may make them more comfortable for those with sensitive teeth. But the Sonicare is also compatible with brush heads offering softer bristles specifically designed for sensitive teeth. In fact, unlike many others, Sonicare offers a variety of brush heads to help you find the perfect comfort level. In addition, replacing brushing heads feels seamless with the Sonicare — removing and placing a new head took very little effort. Competitors like the Foreo Issa had heads that took a large amount of force to remove — so much so that one of our testers actually rocketed the brushing head across the room.
If you have any questions or concerns whatsoever about the health of your teeth, you need to take them to the one person who is perfectly poised to provide an answer or a solution. Your dentist is there to give you as much advice as you need, whether it is about treatments, pain relief, dealing with cavities, or pressing ahead with things like braces and dentures.
I’d encourage you to check out the video of all the toothbrushes vibrating, they’re all labeled so you can hear what the 2 Series sounds like compared to everything else. In my experience, it was significantly quieter than any of the Oral Bs and hardly different from the rest of the Sonicares. And yes, the 2 Series’ battery is Ni Cd, which means it must be recycled in a particular way, as with Li-ion batteries. Glad you liked the guide, though!
Well hate to break it to you but it does NOT work!! Dental schools are reduced fees to benefit the students and YOU, it is not the 25th caller it is anyone who cares enough to want good oral health which also increases good overall health. PleAse think before you believe some nonsense you read on the Internet.
Like most electric toothbrushes by Philips, this one also comes with a rechargeable Lithium ION battery. Once fully charged, the battery should be able to last you 3 weeks if you brush twice a day using the “clean” setting. The “deep clean” setting is likely to exhaust the battery faster because it is operating at a higher speed and producing more brush strokes per minute.
It’s a good idea to clean your toothbrush on a regular basis. Some models, like the TAO Aura Clean, come with cleaning stations that use UV light to clean your electric toothbrush. While these are convenient, they aren’t really necessary. Studies show that simply rinsing your toothbrush under hot water will do the job. In addition, experts suggest storing your toothbrush in an open-air holder — don’t cover your toothbrush head. For those who do want a deeper clean, soaking the toothbrush head in antibacterial mouthwash or peroxide will do the trick.
In order to practise, all hygienists must annually register with the Dental Council. For the 2014-2015 cycle, the cost of this is $669.07. One hygienist is represented on the Council for a three-year term.
To find the best electric toothbrush, we put in almost 100 total hours of research, interviewing experts, evaluating every model on the market, and testing 12 toothbrushes ourselves in hundreds of trials at the bathroom sink. We found that the best toothbrush for most people is a simple model called the Oral-B Pro 1000. It has the fewest fancy features of the models we tested, but it does have the most important things experts recommend—a built-in two-minute timer and access to one of the most extensive and affordable lines of replaceable toothbrush heads available—for the lowest price. That, according to the experts we spoke to, is as much as an electric toothbrush can or should do for you. The extras available in electric toothbrushes that cost $150 more don’t make them any more effective than the Pro 1000.
Mouthwash kills the germs in your mouth, so it seems logical that it could kill those germs on your toothbrush too! Just soak your toothbrush bristles in mouthwash for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly with hot water. (thanks Rachel)
The demand for dental services will increase as the population ages. As the large baby-boom population ages and people keep more of their original teeth than did previous generations, the need to maintain and treat teeth will continue to drive demand for dental care.
If I still had insurance that allowed a dentist, I would go in a heartbeat! Unfortunately, that isn’t going to happen. I am lucky to have enough money for gas a week before I get another check. I will do anything not to get bad teeth until I can get on my feet again after I finish school.
With the toothbrush still off, place it in your mouth. The bristles should be placed against the teeth and should have a slight angle towards the gum line. Close your mouth before turning the brush on. Otherwise, your bathroom will be showered with toothpaste.
About once a month, I use a damp toothbrush dipped in baking soda and gently brush away from my gums, keeping it as dry as possible. Then I floss it under my gums in a downward then outward motion, which pulls the loose plaque out to be rinsed away. At 61, only 1 crown due to popcorn chipping off a corner. I use Reach rinse with fluoride with no alcohol. No need to ‘feel the burn’ to be germ free
i’m on my 3rd week using the Quip after my Sonicare died and I’ve been quite happy. so much so that i think you ought to consider it in your next comparo. Part of my reason I picked this up was because I found dying $100 toothbrushes just outside the warranty aren’t my thing. the moment you start relying on such complex things that break down it’s a good moment to dial down and reconsider.
Mixing them will cancel the cleaning power of the vinegar since mixing them causes a chemical reaction that eliminates both the vinegar and baking soda. Mixing them creates a type of salt (not table salt), water, and gas (bubbles).
Remember: food residues, especially sweets, provide nutrients for the germs that cause tooth decay, as well as those that cause gum disease. That’s why it is important to remove all food residues, as well as plaque, from teeth. Remove plaque at least once a day — twice a day is better. If you brush and floss once daily, do it before going to bed.
Hello guys! Thank you so much for all of the reviews about the Sonicares. However I still don´t know which one to buy. My main reason for buying a Sonicare is because it should whiten the teeth. Should I get the Healthy White or all the other similar ones will do the job?
If plaque is left on a subgingival (under the gum) surface undisturbed, not only is there an increased risk of tooth decay, but it will also go on to irritate the gums and make them appear red and swollen Some bleeding may be noticed during tooth brushing or flossing. These are the signs of inflammation which indicate poor gum health (gingivitis).
They found that both the active forms of vitamin D3 and omega 3 DHA improved the ability of the macrophages from the Alzheimer’s patients’ blood samples to absorb amyloid beta. They also noticed there was less of the cell-death that is normally triggered by amyloid beta.
We really think that Sonicare did a reasonable job with their app. But from the standpoint of the average person who just needs a good, effective electric toothbrush, it contributes too little at too much cost.

I’ve been using Sonicare brushes and brush-heads for a dozen years now and this is the first time (2014) I’ve experienced bad quality. Each of the two heads in the package (one I was using, the other – my son, in his identical E-series) experienced the same problem: only a couple of months into using it, the brush started making a strong noise and the vibration weakened significantly, to the point where it wasn’t cleaning at all. I looked carefully at the brush and noticed that the base of the head, which contains a couple of rare-earth magnets, seated on a steel plate, had become loose and was hanging on the plastic tab that protrudes from a hole in the plate (see accompanying pictures). The exact same problem on each brush-head, a clear sign of poor design and execution.
I’ve used this for years as an alternative to commercial and toxic cleaners. While many of these commercials cleaners kill more germs than the natural ones, you are left with the after effects of their toxins. That is not something I want in my home.
You are correct that there’s no evidence that different brush heads will clean your teeth better, but we think having a range of available brush heads matters in so far as personal preference is concerned. You brush your teeth twice a day every day, so you probably want the brush head to feel comfortable.
The Dental Hygienists’ Association of Australia (DHAA) Inc., established in 1975, is the peak body representing registered dental hygiene service providers in Australia. A dental hygienist does not need to be employed by a dentist but can independently assess patients and make treatment plans within their scope of practice whilst working in the community. Practising as an autonomous decision maker, and working within the scope of only what they are “formally” trained in. The National Law requires the same level of professional responsibility from dental hygienists, oral health therapists and dental therapists as it does from dentists, dental specialists and dental prosthetists in that all practitioners must have their own professional indemnity insurance and radiation licences. They are also required to complete 60 hours of mandatory continuing professional development in a three-year cycle.
They obviously took a step back in the 2 Series to have a stylish entry level product at a very attractive price. Many will still be happy with it considering the price and comparing it to a manual toothbrush. I also notice the 2 Series ships with the Plaque Control head. This head is small. I had noticed when I moved to the slightly larger DiamondClean head, the 2 Series felt even more underpowered. Therefore, if someone is going to use the 2 Series, I recommend sticking with the Plaque Control head, it makes the most out of the lower power 2 Series.
For the person who commented about recurring strep throat…gargle with salt water – one part salt to 2 parts warm to hot but not boiling water. Gargle 3x per day for a couple days. The salt kills strep.
With 7,600 rotations per minute, this toothbrush did not feel powerful at all. Having tested the Pro series before this one, this felt more like it would better fit a kid. However, used properly, it still got the job done better than any manual toothbrush. Its only feature, the timer, was also helpful in reminding me when I should stop brushing. Unfortunately, there is no quadrant timer that sends reminders every 30 seconds.
Depending upon the level of education and experience achieved, dental hygienists can apply their skills and knowledge to other career activities such as teaching hygiene students in dental schools and dental hygiene education programs. Research, office management and business administration are other career options. Employment opportunities also may be available with companies that market dental-related materials and equipment.
2008 – Independent practice dental hygienist: A dental hygienist licensed with an independent practice may work without the supervision of a dentist, providing that the dental hygienist has to complete 2,000 work hours of clinical practice during the two years prior to applying for an independent license, as well as a bachelor’s degree from a CODA accredited dental hygiene program or complete 6,000 work hours of clinical practice during the six years prior to applying for an independent license, as well as an associate degree from a CODA accredited dental hygiene program.
We’ve been using quip for a months now and after replacing the brush head, one of the two brushes has stopped working and the other developed a crack. So far, we’re not impressed and probably going to switch to the Oral B
Your small paintbrush analogy befuddles common sense. Your mouth is not large, it is quite small and your teeth occupy only a small portion of the already small mouth. Small canvases call for small brushes to get the details.
Rechargeable battery: A rechargeable battery saves you the cost of replacing traditional batteries during an electric toothbrush’s lifespan — at least 3 years. In addition, it decreases the risk of a dead toothbrush and the loss of electric brushing’s benefits. Most electric toothbrushes offer a rechargeable battery that lasts, on average, two weeks per charge.
Your product will be shipped to its final destination to arrive in 2 business days or faster. If your order is placed before the 11 a.m. PST cutoff time, then it will ship that day and arrive 2 business days later. If your order is placed after the 11 a.m. PST cutoff time, we will do our best to process it the same day but may need an extra day.
The main draw of an electric toothbrush for kids in a digital age is the ability to use a toothbrush with an app (read: game). The Sonicare app is our favorite because it actually pairs with the toothbrush. In contrast, the Oral-B app is simply a timer meaning kids can log brushing sessions even if they don’t have a toothbrush in hand. In addition, a parental pin code on the Sonicare allows you to access the parent’s dashboard where you can track the progress of your kids’ brushing and even set up additional rewards. For example, if they brush 10 days in a row, you can set a personalized reward. Our tester’s parent reported “the Oral-B was more engaging for her than the Sonicare — she looked at the app a lot more.” This may be because the Oral-B uses popular Disney characters and plays songs when it’s time to switch from the top teeth to the bottom.
Sterline also offers the widely marketed UV clean technology that is supposed to kill 99.9% of bacteria on brush heads. Arguably, once the brush heads are stored inside the case, the UV lights are activated and leftover germs are eliminated. This is something that we are not completely sold on. It has nothing to do with the brand, but with the technology itself. There is very little academic research to support these claims, and frankly, we could not find any that is reliably associated with well-known faculties.
However, you can Bass brush this surface if you use just the tip of your brush rather than try to fit the whole brush head laying on its side in your mouth. Using just the front tip of your Bass brush, wiggle the bristles into the gum line along these few front teeth where it’s difficult to get the whole brush head angled correctly.
The best electric toothbrush is gentle on your teeth and gums, easy to maneuver, and actually improves your brushing technique. But highly advertised features, like different brushing modes, don’t necessarily lead to healthier teeth and gums. So we consulted dentists and dental research to identify the most effective features available — brushing timers and pressure sensors — and then gathered 16 toothbrushes to test ourselves. We ended up with four models that actually encourage better brushing habits for a healthy smile.
Dental hygienists in the western United States reported the highest average wages as of 2011. Those in California made the most, an average of $91,010 a year, followed closely by dental hygienists working in the District of Columbia, who earned an average yearly salary of $90,500. Washington state ranked third in dental hygienist incomes, an average of $90,420 a year, followed by Nevada at $88,620 and Alaska at $86,310. Alabama reported an average salary of $44,900 a year, the lowest in the nation.
In recent years, scientists have studied whether toothbrushes may harbor microorganisms that could cause oral and/or systemic infection.1-4 We know that the oral cavity is home to hundreds of different types of microorganisms;5 therefore, it is not surprising that some of these microorganisms are transferred to a toothbrush during use. It may also be possible for microorganisms that are present in the environment where the toothbrush is stored to establish themselves on the brush. Toothbrushes may even have bacteria on them right out of the box4 since they are not required to be sold in a sterile package.
Looking forward to a review on “Water Flossers” or Dental irrigators. My kids dentist recommended them over traditional floss. There are so many of them available, so a review by wirecutter would be nice 😉
Sonic toothbrushes usually operate at around 260Hz or 260 times per second. Each vibration creates 2 brush strokes per second. So, in a minute, there are about 31,000 brush strokes, which is 10 times faster than regular electric toothbrushes. Some Philips models have even tested at speeds exceeding 62,000 brush strokes per minute.
Dentures should be taken out at night, as leaving them in whilst sleeping has been linked to poor oral health. Leaving a denture in during sleep reduces the protective cleansing and antibacterial properties of saliva against Candida albicans (oral thrush) and denture stomatitis; the inflammation and redness of the oral mucosa underneath the denture. For the elderly, wearing a denture during sleep has been proven to greatly increase the risk of pneumonia.
Well, I wouldn’t say that these are the best option for year 2017. There are some cheaper and way more interesting items in terms of technology, for example (http://tygiene.com/). Also, Amazon is a reliable source of information
Hi my name is Jose. I really want a career in Dental hygiene, but I’m concerned that It may be a bad choice since most hygienist are female. Would it be a good idea to follow that path or should I look somewhere else? Is it okay if a hygienist is male?
Each state requires dental hygienists to be licensed, and requirements vary by state. For most, licensure requires a degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and passing written and clinical exams administered by the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations.
Features such as timers, UV sterilizers, and smartphone connectivity are as useful as your iPhone’s Siri feature. They might be cool to have, so you can tell your friends about. But, at the end of the day, they fail to add any real value to essential goal of a toothbrush, which is cleaning teeth.
A career as a dental hygienist offers a wide range of challenges. In the dental office, the dentist and the dental hygienist work together to meet the oral health needs of patients. Since each state has its own specific regulations regarding their responsibilities, the range of services performed by hygienists varies from state to state. Some of the services provided by dental hygienists may include:
For the jock itch part (its fungal) I take a large cup like from 7-11 and use as much Apple Cider Vin as you want with warm water and pour it on the area.. after a few treatments in the shower, issue goes away.
Try gargling for 5 min with a mouthful of coconut oil .I came across this somewhere and have found it effective .No dentist can say it is abrasive .Most toothpaste are loaded with abrasive material and is one of the main reasons for teeth wear and tear.
