If you are prone to developing tartar patches or are worried about plaque, pick up a tartar control toothpaste variety. They contain a concoction of ingredients designed to battle against crusty build ups in the mouth. In some cases, they also contain triclosan. This is an antibiotic substance that can kill off a number of bacteria strains.
The fluid forces that were generated by the sonic toothbrush were able to produce the following cleaning effects in the listed time frames. 58% plaque reduction at 5 seconds, 63% plaque reduction at 10 seconds, 76% plaque reduction at 15 seconds.
Clinical procedures provided typically include removal of plaque, calculus and stains from the teeth; exposing and processing dental X-rays; applying cavity-preventive agents, such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants; and administering antimicrobial agents. In some states, they also administer local anesthetics and nitrous oxide; place and carve filling materials, temporary fillings, and periodontal dressings; remove sutures; perform root-planing as a periodontal therapy; and polish restorations. In addition, they can provide clinical and laboratory diagnostic tests for interpretation by other health professionals.
Stent placement. A small tube called a stent, which may contain medication, can be placed in an artery to maintain adequate blood flow. A catheter is used through the artery of the leg to reach the heart, and a stent is put in place through the catheter in the area of the blockage.

These are great replacement toothbrush head for my Sonicare brush handle. I was using the oem brush head from sonicare for the past 2 years until I realized that there were cheaper alternatives online. I decided to give these a try and they function the exact same as the sonicare ones.Out of the box, the brush heads come with all the colored rings and brush head covers like the real ones do.
Flexible sides complement the unique bristle pattern design to remove up to 10 times more plaque, even in the hard to reach areas.  Cleaning thoroughly in between teeth and along the gumline, the soft rubbers sides of the Plaque Control brush head adapt to the contours of your mouth.
We get your point about frailty but will also point out that you can break your Series 2 and replace it again for about the same cost as one HealthyWhite. And in an era of planned obsolescence (including the situation where battery failure = toothbrush death), investing as little as possible has advantages.
This article approached the topic exactly as I would have and was so helpful! I had started to get confused about the subtle differences between models I was considering; your summary and all the related info was just the ticket. Thanks for taking the time to create it–a very valuable service.
Proper tooth brushing is critically important to good dental hygiene. Parents can help their children practice proper tooth brushing by starting to clean teeth early, using the right amount of fluoride toothpaste, supervising tooth brushing, and talking to a pediatrician or dentist about a child’s specific fluoride needs. More information on caring for children’s teeth may be found at CDC’s Brush Up on Healthy Teeth pages.
G3 Premium Gum Care (introduced with DiamondClean Smart) – Absorbs excess cleaning pressure to protect the gums. 2 times more surface contact. Automatically selects optimal cleaning mode for the best results. (Compatible brush required)
Plaque that is not removed can harden into tartar, a hard mineral deposit that forms on teeth and can only be removed through professional cleaning by a dental professional. When this happens, brushing and cleaning between teeth become more difficult, and gum tissue can become swollen or may bleed. This condition is called gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. Determining which dental hygiene school to enroll in is often an exercise in comparing program criteria. In order to fully learn how to become a dental hygienist, you’ll need to consider which ones offer flexible schedules, affordable tuition and respected professors. These electric toothbrushes by Sonicare are the top picks based on their features, quality, design, and reviews by real users. You can compare their features, prices, think of the modes, and think of which features are more important for you.
As well, I’ve read most studies regarding the effectiveness of both Braun and Sonicare toothbrushes and the effectiveness of the different available brush-heads. The Sonicare has been proven gentler and more effective at reducing gingivitis and bleeding and the Braun has been proven more effective at removing plaque (particularly with their relatively new Cross Action brush-head)…and very effective at reducing gingivitis as well! Either way, both brushes are more effective than manual brushing (which needs perfect technique to be similarily effective to electric brushes) and are a great way to improve your oral health! Try both the Braun and Sonicare…try the better brush-heads from both brands (Cross Action, Floss Action, Precision Clean…Adaptive Care, Interclean, Diamond Clean brush-heads) and decide what you prefer!
Sonic toothbrushes have longer heads that resemble traditional toothbrushes and vibrate up to 40,000 strokes per minute. Dr. Glassman told us they also incorporate “fluid dynamics which is a secondary cleaning action that extends the brush’s reach.” Translation? A sonic toothbrush’s scrubbing can reach farther than its oscillating counterpart’s (even if it does tickle a bit on the way).
This toothbrush is ideal for anyone, any age, and even for those with sensitivity, with gum recession, or undergoing orthodontic treatment or gum therapy because it gently massages the gums without any pain or bleeding. The colors in your pack of three toothbrushes will vary. This is an Amazon best seller and has nearly 600 five-star reviews on Amazon. It is frequently recommended by dentists, particularly for those with extra-sensitive gums and teeth.
Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.

Eat apples and melons. Eating an apple or some melon directly after a meal will help to clean your teeth naturally and prevent plaque from building up on the surface of your teeth. This will also help to keep gums healthy and prevent them from bleeding.
As testament of this, over the years we noticed that every Sonicare manual we’ve seen clearly states something similar to: “When the Sonicare is used in clinical studies, the default 2-minute Clean mode must be selected.”
You see, saliva is very mineral rich to help remineralize any surface decay on our teeth.  Since the lower front teeth come into contact with this rich source of minerals first, some of the minerals are deposited there first.
In addition to regular dental hygiene, you can use some natural remedies to remove plaque and tartar. Remember, once the tartar has mineralized on your teeth, it is extremely difficult to remove. However, if you regularly remove plaque, it can help prevent permanent tooth decay.
Despite the title of this page, we don’t really believe in monikers like the “best Sonicare.” After all, what’s best for one person may not satisfy the requirements or expectations of another at all. For example:

  1. This page takes you through a comparison of the current Sonicare rechargeable electric toothbrush line up, in an attempt to single out those select models that tend to make a better choice in terms of function and value (are a “best-buy”).
I thought maybe it was just a design difference and not a performance difference, as the gum health is not very good looking compared to the Flexcare+ and that the 31000 vibrations were what counted, but the gum care model was a big disappointment. Unpleasant noise and lower amplitude at the strokes compared to the Flexcare+ and also the handle vibrated, so more an experience like the Oral B, though I think it is still cleaning better than the Oral B.
I’ve used regular toothbrushes my entire life, but at the recommendation of my new dentist, I looked into an electric tooth brush. I asked my dentist if she had a recommendation, but she more or less said that any electric toothbrush will likely be better than a manual toothbrush, but that she personally uses a Sonicare tooth brush that’s a few years old. With that in mind, down the rabbit hole if internet researching I went.
The bristles on this brush head are designed to be angles and trimmed strategically so that you can get a better clean and this toothbrush head has been designed especially to improve the health of your gums. In comparison to a manual toothbrush, this brush head will be able to improve your gums by up to 100%. You would not be able to enjoy such healthy gums if you chose a manual brush, making this brush head a great investment.
You touched on the issue of sensitivity, but not gum disease. I’ve had periodontitis for years, but it’s gotten much worse. I can’t afford to see a dentist anymore, so an electric toothbrush has become even more critical. I started using the flossing head, but it’s made matters worse. I have to use Peroxyl because my gums are so raw.
Other people who can benefit from reading this page include: 1) Those who are ready to get on board with purchasing a Sonicare (as an improvement over their current brushing situation, manual or electric) but aren’t so committed that they’re ready to spend a lot of money.  2) Those for whom cost is a major consideration and must be kept to a bare minimum.
The best way to have the plaque removed is by a dental professional, such as a dental hygienist. Some hygienists use an ultrasonic instrument called a Cavitron, others use a dental scaler instrument, and others use a combination of the two. There are also scalers that you can purchase from your local pharmacy to scrape off visible plaque, but if you use the scaler incorrectly then you can cause more damage to your teeth and gums.

  2. The new replacement head works just as well as the old one. If I have to replacement every three months, that’s fine. I agree with other reviewers – it’s a small price to pay to avoid high dental bills.
The other major flaw of the Pro 1000 is that its head is a departure from the usual rotating/pulsating motion of most powered Oral-B brushes. The head it comes with has two moving parts: one that moves up and down vertically and a longer set of bristles at the top that flop back and forth. Compared with other toothbrushes, the motion was a little violent.
Plaque is a sticky, colorless film of bacteria that constantly forms on our teeth and along the gum line. Plaque contains bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease. As plaque forms and is not removed by proper brushing and flossing, it can harden into tartar — sometimes called calculus — which is calcified (or hardened) plaque that attaches to the enamel on your teeth, as well as below the gum line.
Nothing here about which models are chargeable via USB. It’s asinine that a ~5V device won’t charge/run off USB, forcing me to take a bulky, awkward adapter with me when I travel in addition to the n USB chargers I also need to take.
Use a mouthwash that targets plaque. Though plaque-busting mouthwashes are not effective enough to remove plaque all by themselves, when used as part of a teeth cleaning routine involving brushing and flossing, they can help to loosen plaque, while giving you minty-fresh breath in the process.
Brush Heads: Oral-B has 5 available brush heads and comes with three (cross action, whitening, and sensitive brush heads), Sonicare has 5 available brush heads and comes with two (AdaptiveClean, InterCare)

  3. W3 Premium White (introduced with DiamondClean Smart) – Helps whiten teeth in just 3 days by removing plaque and surface stains. 4 times more surface contact. Automatically selects optimal cleaning mode for the best results. (Compatible brush required)
One of the best ways to learn about a dental hygienist program’s requirements is to attend an information session. During one of these meetings, you’ll get a synopsis of the program and you’ll be given an opportunity to ask questions.

Your are purchasing Sonicare original Standard DiamondClean Heads. Fits All 600, 700, 900 Series FlexCare, HealthyWhite, And EasyClean Series Kids Sonicare Toothbrush Handles. I Get A Deal From Them A…
However, for the full experience I highly recommend one of the higher end models. I loved my 2 Series but I immediately gave it away to family once I had my FlexCare and DiamondClean. The performance difference is not even close. Honestly, not making it up, the difference is big.

  4. Reminder bristles ensure your most effective clean At first glance it may not be obvious, but brush heads lose stiffness and gradually wear down over months of normal use.  Blue reminder bristles fade to white and help you recognise when it’s time for a replacement. For optimal results, replace your brush head every three months.
It is usually common sense for adults not to swap toothbrushes with each other, but young children need to be taught which toothbrush is theirs and to only use their toothbrush. Color coding or writing names on the toothbrush will help. When people use each others toothbrushes the also swap each other’s germs and could easily cause sickness.
Furthermore, the model we purchased for testing broke within a week. The battery died and simply refused to be charged again. Contacting Pursonic did nothing, as we never received a replacement or a decent explanation.
Our toothbrushes end up in his mouth, on the floor, behind furniture…you get the idea. Germs from all over the house end up on our toothbrushes. If we replaced our toothbrushes every day, we would go broke. So, we learned to do the next best thing…disinfect them.
After hours online trying to follow-up on my dentist’s directive to buy a Sonicare–how hard could that be?–I finally ran across your page. What a relief! You verified much that I’d read but filled in some much needed gaps. I was all set to purchase a 2 Series until I read your info about its vibration levels, and how long a charge lasts in comparison to the HealthyWhite+. Now it’s the HealthyWhite+ for me.

  5. We probably don’t need to tell you, but plaque is oral health enemy number one. During the day it builds up on and between your teeth. It leads to tartar, cavities and gum disease so you need to remove it daily to keep your teeth healthy.
How long should one of these last – not the heads, but the handle/charger combo? The article says that the power might decrease over time as the rechargeable battery deteriorates, but I didn’t see any estimate of a general lifespan.
The effectiveness of this type of cleansing generally has to do with the amplitude of the brush head (the distance, up or down, it travels on each stroke) and also its frequency (number of strokes per minute). Sonic toothbrushes characteristically are very efficient tooth scrubbers (see below).
Fluoridated toothpaste. Fluoride repairs damage to your enamel, as your teeth incorporate fluorapatite into their structure in place of normal hydroxyapatite. Using fluoride regularly protects your teeth from acid damage and decay, and allows demineralized areas to regenerate.
Your toothbrush can become a breeding ground for germs, which is one reason why you ought to change it every 3 months. However, germs multiply in minutes, not months, and need to be cleaned between swaps. How do you keep your toothbrush clean? Here are some ideas.
Philips Sonicare reminder bristles are designed to give you a visual indication of this microscopic breakdown, letting you know when it’s time to replace your brush head. If you use your brush head twice a day for the full two minutes, it needs to be replaced every three months.
Fading reminder bristles are present to help you recognise when it is time to change the head (recommendation of every 3 months).  But better still, if using a Smart Sonicare brush handle the brush will monitor how often the head is used and how hard you brush and remind you at precisely the right time to change.

  6. FWIW, I bought an Oral-B ProfessionalCare 1000 based on the recommendation here, after I lost my 4000. The 4000 cleaned my teeth much more thoroughly–I can often feel some guck on my teeth after using the 1000, which never happened with the 4000. The 4000 “pulsates” at 40,000 pulsations/minute, compared with teh 20,000 for the 1000. YMMV, but the 4000 works a lot better for me.
The bristles are some 25% softer than most other brush heads and the bristles are trimmed in such as way that the experience on the teeth and gums should be softer and more enjoyable for those with sensitive teeth and gums.
I use the Oral-B brushes, and they’re on sale for $4 each every few months from Costco. However, they don’t last anything like 3 months. I haven’t measured, but I’d say they’re about a month each. Maybe 6 weeks.
Single-tufted brushes are a tool in conjunction with tooth brushing.[37] The tooth brush is designed to reach the ‘hard to reach places’ within the mouth. This tool is best used behind the lower front teeth, behind the back molars, crooked teeth and between spaces where teeth have been removed.[38] The single- tufted brush design has an angled handle, a 4mm diameter and rounded bristle tips.[38]

Oral-B is the #1 dentist and hygienist recommended brand worldwide and is the brand that most dentists use themselves, so you know you’ll get a good clean when you use one of their toothbrushes. This is available in soft or medium varieties, depending on your preferences. The colors in your pack of two toothbrushes will vary. This is an Amazon best seller, has superior online reviews, and some people claim that it works as well as electric toothbrushes. If you need a dependable floss as well, consider the Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Comfort Plus Mint Flavor Floss.
As examples, people seem to complain that this brush’s mechanism is noisy and less refined than the higher-end models. And some commenters on this page have complain that they consider this brush under powered (they don’t get the same “clean” as with more expensive Sonicares).
Chewing gum assists oral irrigation between and around the teeth, cleaning and removing particles, but for teeth in poor condition it may damage or remove loose fillings as well. Dental chewing gums claim to improve dental health. Sugar-free chewing gum stimulates saliva production, and helps to clean the surface of the teeth.[41]
Around $150 puts you in the realm of Bluetooth brushes (and a dip in battery life). These typically come with several brush heads, in addition to a charging travel case, and even more cleaning modes. Oral-B’s offerings stop there, but for over $200 you can get a brush from Philips Sonicare that comes with a glass charger that looks sort of fancy.
For those who have sensitive teeth, we recommend the Oral-B 1000. Unlike its sonic counterparts, the Oral-B 1000 provides around 8,000 strokes per minute, meaning you won’t feel as much of a tickling sensation on your teeth. This sensation can be very uncomfortable to some, which makes the Oral-B an excellent choice. The Oral-B 1000’s bare-bones approach to features allows you to just focus on improving your dental care. In addition to our must-have two-minute timer, this $30 pick simply offers a quad-pacer to ensure an even brush for all your teeth. We like this minimal approach, because it shifts your attention to what matters most: proper brushing technique. The Oral-B 1000 is also compatible with a variety of different brushing heads for your personal comfort needs.
Sonicare Essence is the best among the basic sonic toothbrushes. It’s got nice features for an effective cleaning and for an affordable price. However, for those who want more features like a quadpacer, more modes, and a more sleek design, the above options are more suitable.
