You have provided the exact information I have been looking for in a simple, user-friendly manner. Having already put some time into trying to compare some of these models on my own, I can easily tell you that you have saved me a great deal of time and trouble in laying things out as you have. I cannot thank you enough for being so clear, informative, and prompt (in regards to your post replies) with what you have done here. Finding this has just made my day better and I really value and appreciate that. Cheers, all. 🙂
The researchers incubated the macrophages for a few hours with amyloid beta. To some of the cells they then added either an active form of vitamin D3, or an active form of omega 3 DHA, and watched what effect this had on inflammation and the ability of the macrophages to absorb amyloid beta.
Since before recorded history, a variety of oral hygiene measures have been used for teeth cleaning. This has been verified by various excavations done throughout the world, in which chew sticks, tree twigs, bird feathers, animal bones and porcupine quills have been found. In historic times, different forms of tooth cleaning tools have been used. Indian medicine (Ayurveda) has used the neem tree, or daatun, and its products to create teeth cleaning twigs and similar products; a person chews one end of the neem twig until it somewhat resembles the bristles of a toothbrush, and then uses it to brush the teeth. In the Muslim world, the miswak, or siwak, made from a twig or root, has antiseptic properties and has been widely used since the Islamic Golden Age. Rubbing baking soda or chalk against the teeth was also common; however, this can have negative side effects over time.[4]
This model may not be heavy on the wallet, but it is heavy on the hand. At 7.4 ounces, this was one of the heaviest toothbrushes that we tested. We were hoping that this is because Philips has added a bigger Lithium ION battery that will last longer. But, we were wrong. After fully charged, the battery lasted only 7 days.
All of these models come with superfluous brushing modes. Some offer convenient but redundant charging options. If you want the option of using a brushing app, that’s available with some of them. One model even comes with an (unneeded, see below) UV brush head sanitizer.
Sonicare for kids – if you are looking for a toothbrush for children, then the Sonicare for kid’s toothbrush is a great choice. It comes with decorative stickers that can be placed onto the body of the toothbrush if you wish and it also has our brushing time that has a sound that plays when the time is up. Is also has a quad pace that type function to indicates your child when they have been brushing their teeth for the correct amount of time and move onto the next quarter of their mouth. This kids model has Bluetooth connectivity so that you can connect it to an app on your smartphone. This allows you to track how well your child is brushing his or her teeth and lets you help your child to improve their brushing technique. This toothbrush comes with replaceable brush heads so that you can change them when they have been used for a couple of months.
The other problem with the Cochrane report is that though it’s conducted by a nonprofit, it includes in its survey studies that are conducted by companies testing their own toothbrush products. Unsurprisingly, we’ve never found a study published by P&G’s Oral-B that has found its electric toothbrushes inferior to another brand; the same goes for Philips’s Sonicare. This doesn’t necessarily apply to every study, but it applies to a gross majority of the toothbrush research available. But caveats about biased research aside, scientists do consistently find that an electric toothbrush is significantly better at removing plaque and reducing gingivitis in the average person’s mouth.
C3 Premium Plaque Control – $12.25 – This is a Sonicare BrushSync head (see below). It has a design aimed at maximizing plaque removal. It comes in Standard size only. Sonicare’s classification of bristle stiffness = medium soft.

We’d trust WaterPik to make a quality electric toothbrush. As compared to Sonicare you are more limited in brush head styles. However, the small pointed Interdental Tip is a design not duplicated in the Sonicare line and could be a valuable aid for some.
When it comes to functionality and features, this is by far not the most advanced product. With 11,000 high-intensity pulsations per minute, it falls short to compete with Philips and Oral-B. Instead, the Issa model is a daring attempt by Foreo to give the standard motor-powered toothbrush a face-lift.
When fully charged, the Lithium ION batted lasted a whole 5 weeks. This is more than any other battery we have tested. Do keep in mind, however, that Brio’s battery is much larger (900 mah) than other competing electric toothbrushes. This does make the toothbrush a bit heavy, but it also means that the battery will last for years to come.
I thought the point was to leave it on the charging dock. “Every other day”? I leave mine charging, the battery is great. When I need to travel for a weekend the battery more than accomplishes the task.. I have no expectations greater than that with a brand new toothbrush.
Wow. I have now bought and own both a FlexCare and a DiamondClean model. The difference in vibration between these models and the 2 Series is many times over. My teeth feel much cleaner, the strength/power of the vibrations is much more intense with these higher end models.
1984 – Unsupervised practice: dental hygienist practice without the supervision of a dentist is allowed in hospitals, group homes, nursing homes, home health agencies, Health and Human Service state institutions, jails, and public health facilities as long as the hygienist refers their patients to a dentist for treatment. Hygienists must have at least two years of work experience within the last 5 years.[44]
The Sonicare 3 Series also has the QuadPacer feature and the easy-start feature. The former is an automatic mode that vibrates every 30 seconds to remind you to move the brush from one set of teeth to the next. It does that 4 times per brushing. The easy-start is a mode that progressively increases the intensity of the brushing over the next 14 or so days. This allows users to slowly get to 31,000 brush strokes per minute.

Dental hygienists help patients develop and maintain good oral health. For example, they may explain the relationship between diet and oral health. They may also give advice to patients on how to select toothbrushes and other oral care devices.
There is a really easy and clever way to check if you have a plaque build-up on your teeth. Take some food colouring – just the regular stuff found in supermarkets – and add it to a teaspoon of water. You can use this mini mixture as a plaque highlighting solution. However, you are advised to rub a little petroleum jelly on your lips first to avoid stains. You only need to gargle with the food colouring and then spit it out. You should be left with light patches of colour where the most stubborn plaque accumulations are; concentrate brushing here.
The best way to have the plaque removed is by a dental professional, such as a dental hygienist. Some hygienists use an ultrasonic instrument called a Cavitron, others use a dental scaler instrument, and others use a combination of the two. There are also scalers that you can purchase from your local pharmacy to scrape off visible plaque, but if you use the scaler incorrectly then you can cause more damage to your teeth and gums.
Our testing showed that sensitive modes will reduce the speeds of the toothbrush, which may make them more comfortable for those with sensitive teeth. But the Sonicare is also compatible with brush heads offering softer bristles specifically designed for sensitive teeth. In fact, unlike many others, Sonicare offers a variety of brush heads to help you find the perfect comfort level. In addition, replacing brushing heads feels seamless with the Sonicare — removing and placing a new head took very little effort. Competitors like the Foreo Issa had heads that took a large amount of force to remove — so much so that one of our testers actually rocketed the brushing head across the room.

The Sonicare Essence Plus comes with only one cleaning mode. But, that does not stop it from reaching the top speed of 31,000 brushes per minute. This makes it practically comparable to Philips’ 4 times more expensive DiamondClean model.
If you have blood in your toothpaste after brushing, you may have early symptoms of gingivitis. Left untreated, it can develop into gum disease and may even have wider health implications. Caught early, gingivitis is easy to treat and prevent with your daily routine.
Designed to reach deep between teeth and into hard to reach areas the InterClean brush heads feature extra-long, high-density bristles to target hidden plaque caught deep between teeth and in other hard-to-clean areas.
full disclosure: I switched from a Sonicare DiamondClean to the recommended brush in this article, but it (the Pro 1000) gums up around the brush head attachment and becomes really gross and hard to clean. I also get this weird white filmy buildup around the top of it that disappears when wet and then reappears. I thought it was toothpaste but the only thing that cleaned it off was Clorox wipes. I’m considering switching back to my DiamondClean as a result.
All essence+ models have same specifications. They only differ in color and included starter brush type. They all have QuadPacer and it beeps when battery is low. LED battery indicator is bit hard to see (too dim) but it’s minor issue.
Regarding storing the toothbrush near toilet: my bathroom is very small so not only do I keep my toothbrush in a small glass of vinegar, I always keep the toilet lid down/closed when not in use. Gotta think this ‘containment’ helps, plus bathroom just looks better!
The Sonicare 2 and 3 Series toothbrushes don’t fit that mold. These models were introduced as “cheaper alternatives,” evidently to cover specific price points in the line up. And it seems that their design, as mentioned above, tends to reflect that.
Toothbrushing can only clean to a depth of about 1.5 mm inside the gingival pockets, but a sustained regime of plaque removal above the gum line can affect the ecology of the microbes below the gums and may reduce the number of pathogens in pockets up to 5 mm in depth.[23]
The replacement brush heads for the 2 Series are slightly more expensive at $27 for three ($9 each); the Oral-B’s replacement heads can be as cheap as $5 to $6 each, making the Oral-B’s expenses a little lower in the long run. Per our testing, Sonicare brush heads are interchangeable, and all the Sonicare brushes we tested were able to accommodate each other’s heads. Sonicare does not make this explicit anywhere in its product materials. Most of Sonicare’s brush heads are oblong with soft bristles and lack options for additional structural elements, like rubber flaps or “polishing cups,” so you get fewer options than you do with Oral-B.
As many others have already said, what I received appear to be either non-OEM brush heads, or were defective in some way. In my case, the bristles looked like they had been lopped off with a pair of scissors – they were less than 1/4 of an inch long and cut in a very irregular fashion. Brown cardboard packaging may or may not be from Philips… I will steer clear of these in the future. Thanks Amazon for the refund.

This information was exactly what I was looking for and this site is probably the best product comparison website I have ever seen. Keep up the good work! I couldn’t find any affiliate links so that I could order through the site however…but maybe I missed them?
In order to practise, all hygienists must annually register with the Dental Council.[25] For the 2014-2015 cycle, the cost of this is $669.07.[26] One hygienist is represented on the Council for a three-year term.[27]
This and other Philips models come with a one of a kind charging glass. All you have to do is drop your DiamondClean toothbrush into the glass to begin charging. In addition, you can still use the glass to rinse your mouth once you are done brushing.

  1. The brushes themselves are small than those of philips’ brushes and cut into wavy shapes to fit the Outlines of each tooth. They are soft and round tips to prevent excessive abrasions of your gums. However, they are very durable because I bought the first one (this is about a month ago, still half the life span).
Do not rush is one of the first advises dentists give their patients in regards to flossing or brushing their teeth. Having a timer attached to the toothbrush is not essential for performance. But, it is very helpful in developing a healthy habit.
I’m thoroughly convinced that one reason so many of us have a closet full of clothes we don’t love to wear, is that we shop aimlessly. We buy things JUST because they are on sale. Or JUST because an item is on the new trend list. The problem with that purposeless shopping is we don’t take […]

There are many different types of Sonicare toothbrushes available on the market today. In order to decide which is the best for your name, you will need to consider the various features that you would possibly want in a toothbrush. Let us take a look at some of the most popular Sonicare toothbrush models and at what they are designed to be used for.
When you’re ready to become licensed, contact your state boards to find out what requirements need to be fulfilled. Typically, you’ll need to pass a national board exam and a state or regional clinical exam. In addition, you’ll need to be CPR-certified and undergo a background check as well as completing continuing education courses on an ongoing basis throughout your career.
Using Magnesium oil sprayed onto your toothbrush instead of toothpaste will remove calcium deposits, remove fluoride damage, re-build enamel and whiten teeth…although not whiten as effectively as baking soda.
One thing to consider is the comfort level of the handle and grip. I had a FlexCare+ handle which has a slim profile and a rubber grip on the entire back. It broke so I replaced it with a Sonicare 2 Series, which is a larger unit with no rubber grip. I’m not sure what all models have the rubber grip, but it made controlling the handle easier and more comfortable.

  2. Our research showed that you do not need to spend over $100 in order to get an excellent toothbrush. However, there are some electric toothbrushes that perform better with braces, and some that perform better with sensitive and receding gums. We have reviewed both types for you, to make your choice easier.
This mini-cabinet is big enough for up to 5 toothbrushes or toothbrush heads. Or swap one of those and you can put your razor in here too! You can power it by either batteries (4 x AA) or using the included AC adapter. You can use it on a counter, but it is much better attached to a wall (make sure you mount it properly level for the door to work correctly). The UV light is switched on automatically on closing the door, so as soon as you return your toothbrush it gets zapped. Then the light also automatically activates every 6 hours through the day too. It only runs for 9 minutes each time though so it uses the tiniest amount of electricity – and the UV bulb is rated for 20,000 hours too, so that’s a lot of 9 minute cycles!

Plaque is a sticky, colorless film of bacteria that constantly forms on our teeth and along the gum line. Plaque contains bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease. As plaque forms and is not removed by proper brushing and flossing, it can harden into tartar — sometimes called calculus — which is calcified (or hardened) plaque that attaches to the enamel on your teeth, as well as below the gum line.

  3. With a speed of up to 62,000 brush strokes per minute, the DiamondClean is certainly the Speedy Gonzales of electric toothbrushes. Beautifully designed, this model is available in a variety of colors, such as black, white, dark purple, amethyst and pink. Yes, that is correct ladies, you can have this toothbrush match the rest of your bathroom accessories. Gentleman, do not be jealous! There is plenty of choice for you as well.
not true for all areas. I live in a small town with lots of dental offices. the office I work at now we have hygienists working part time (24hr/week) and making $78,000/year. plus they get vacation time sick time holiday pay and yearly bonuses.
Comfort of the brush: We wanted to know how each brush felt on the teeth and gums. The best electric toothbrush will offer a soft clean for our teeth and gentle massage for our gums — the key components for a healthy smile. While widely popular online, our tester found the Oral-B 1000 to be a bit aggressive on the gums. Others, like the lesser known Brio, surprised us with a comfortable brushing session that didn’t dig into the gums while feeling just as fresh and clean as industry-leading models.
It’s a good idea to clean your toothbrush on a regular basis. Some models, like the TAO Aura Clean, come with cleaning stations that use UV light to clean your electric toothbrush. While these are convenient, they aren’t really necessary. Studies show that simply rinsing your toothbrush under hot water will do the job. In addition, experts suggest storing your toothbrush in an open-air holder — don’t cover your toothbrush head. For those who do want a deeper clean, soaking the toothbrush head in antibacterial mouthwash or peroxide will do the trick.
I thought the point was to leave it on the charging dock. “Every other day”? I leave mine charging, the battery is great. When I need to travel for a weekend the battery more than accomplishes the task.. I have no expectations greater than that with a brand new toothbrush.

  4. As discussed above, it’s only realistic to assume that with increased cost comes a higher build quality. But considering the planned-obsolescence, disposable nature of this type of product (for example, battery failure generally equates with toothbrush death), we’ve decided that to us the line delineating what makes a reasonable purchase or not, lies below these models.
For use with Advance, Elite and Essence Series handles only. E-Series: Slim, angled neck, tapered brush head, and contour-fit bristles; Gets into hard-to-reach areas for optimal results. NEW: e Series brush heads are also compatible with Sonicare Advance Handles
Both brushes offer Sonicare’s best brushing action (31,000 brush strokes/min), although we will concede that users seems to state that they get a better “clean” with Sonicare’s higher-end brushes (we’d mainly just contest the 7x vs 2x comparison). Keep in mind that both brushes can utilize the Diamond Clean (7x) brush head.
One huge advantage of electric toothbrushes is that they are quite fun to use. After all, they are technological gadgets that have timers, flashing lights, they vibrate and therefore bring more joy to the process of teeth cleaning. Also, they are undoubtedly more effective and efficient in cleaning plaque than manual toothbrushes. But, this is not the question at hand.

  5. Wow. I have now bought and own both a FlexCare and a DiamondClean model. The difference in vibration between these models and the 2 Series is many times over. My teeth feel much cleaner, the strength/power of the vibrations is much more intense with these higher end models.

Our toothbrushes end up in his mouth, on the floor, behind furniture…you get the idea. Germs from all over the house end up on our toothbrushes. If we replaced our toothbrushes every day, we would go broke. So, we learned to do the next best thing…disinfect them.
In addition to regular dental hygiene, you can use some natural remedies to remove plaque and tartar. Remember, once the tartar has mineralized on your teeth, it is extremely difficult to remove. However, if you regularly remove plaque, it can help prevent permanent tooth decay.
Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
Ever wondered how much toothpaste you’re actually supposed to squeeze out? Our dentists explained that a pea-sized amount of toothpaste is all you need for a healthy brush and to prevent dental damage. But don’t rinse afterwards. Rinsing after brushing actually dilutes or washes away the fluoride from toothpaste that’s helping to prevent tooth decay. Instead of rinsing, dental experts recommend that you simply spit out any remaining toothpaste after brushing.
Considering that this model is priced under $80, it does come with some cool features. Included are Philips’ SmartTimer, which automatically turns the toothbrush off after 2 minutes. I am not entirely sure I loved this feature, though. In order to continue brushing, the user needs to press the start button again. No biggie, but a bit unnecessary.
