Tooth loss due to poor dental health is also a risk factor for memory loss and early stage Alzheimer’s disease. One study, published in Behavioral and Brain Functions, found that infections in the gums release inflammatory substances which in turn increase brain inflammation that can cause neuronal (brain cell) death.
The mouth is an area that’s completely different from the entire body, and it takes quite a beating from the food we eat and the talking we do all day long. And this unique environment requires special care.
How to brush: Hold the brush with the bristles angled 45 degrees toward the gum line, so one row of bristle tips can slip slightly under the gums. Jiggle the brush head with a short, vibrating motion, then move on to the next spot. Finally, scrub the chewing surfaces.
The 2 Series is the most affordable Sonicare that we can still recommend. Features are slim: It has one speed setting and no travel case. But it cleans teeth and works with all the brushes in the Philips lineup. Surprisingly, it does have a two-minute timer with 30-second segments to help guide your brushing.
I read the review comparing Oral B and Sonicare at The Sweethome, which recommended the 2 Series, but I chose the 3 Series because of it’s Li-Ion battery. Also the included Gum Health brush head matched my needs better than the Plaque Control head on the 2 Series.

Our Foundation funds numerous dental education scholarship programs at various schools. To demonstrate our sensitivity to the critical shortage of dental professionals, our Foundation has made major contributions to:
CHAMP assessed parents’ perception of their children’s oral health status in relation to their school attendance and performance. School performance was measured as follows: “How would you describe [your child’s] grades in school over the past 12 months? Would you say they were mostly As, Bs, Cs, Ds, or Fs?” For the purposes of this investigation, we defined poor school performance as mostly Cs, Ds, or Fs. By adding 2 new questions in the oral health section of CHAMP, we were able to directly assess school absences related to routine dental care and dental pain or infection. These questions asked “During the past 12 months, about how many days did your child miss school because of routine dental care (e.g., check-ups, fillings,) or orthodontic visits?” and “During the past 12 months, about how many days did your child miss school because of a toothache, dental infection, or related ‘dental fever’? Include time spent at home not feeling well and time receiving dental care for the problem.”
As we all know, prevention is better than the cure and the more you are attentive with the health of the teeth and gums, the less problems you will be facing in the near future. Routine checkups will ensure that the problems are detected at their earlier stages and the dentists also guide you the right way of brushing and the steps that will be highly beneficial for you to avoid many of the dental problems. Dental health also affects the overall health of the body and with the regular checkups at the dentist’s office; you will be able to avoid the most common problems like build-up of plaque and tartar. If plaque accumulates and is not removed on timely basis then it may harden, which can aggravate your gum tissue. To avoid any such problems along with the other dental issues, it is highly recommended that you visit your dentist once in every six months.
Talking about the comfort level, Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 Electric Toothbrush is just awesome. It does not put much pressure on gums, although the 16-Degree angle is effective for plaque cleaning. Thanks to the Li-Ion battery, you can use the brush for around 12 days with a single charge. And, even the charging dock is cool.
This is the second Sonicare toothbrush I’ve purchased. The first lasted several years before the linear motor deteriorated. That seemed like a reasonable life expectancy. But this new brush had a two year warranty and Philips doesn’t seem to be interested in keeping their customers happy.
This is intriguing, since fermented vegetables, which are loaded with friendly bacteria that improve digestion, alter the flora in your mouth as well. And when made using a special culture, fermented vegetables are an excellent source of vitamin K2. Since the addition of vitamin K2-rich fermented vegetables to my diet, my plaque has decreased by half and is much softer.
Unlike a manual toothbrush, Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart uses unique sonic technology to clean teeth with up to 31,000 brush strokes per minute. Sweeping motions drive fluid deep into the tight spaces between your teeth and along your gum line, resulting in a cleaner, healthier mouth.
The 7000 comes with a lot of different modes and different heads, and it gets a little confusing as to which head to use with which mode. You can damage your teeth if you don’t know what you’re doing. For example, I think Deep Clean with a non-sensitive bristles head could be too much.
Chemist Direct stocks a wide range of toothbrush heads for your unique needs. The extensive selection ensures that you will find a replacement brush head that is perfect for your preferences. Choose the right brush head for you.
“The idea of a toothbrush is to remove plaque and to stimulate the gums,” explains John Ictech-Cassis, DDS, DMD, clinical associate professor at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. “Most toothbrushes will keep the teeth clean if you know how to use them.”
Good dental practices – visiting your dentist or oral health care professional on a regular basis – can also help with early detection of oral cancers. And smokers, who are at the highest risk of such cancers, are less likely to visit a dentist, according to a survey reviewed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

When you choose a sonicare toothbrush, you should look out for models that offer you the ability to change the intensity of the sonic vibrations. If you have never used as sonic care toothbrush before, you will need to get used to it. By starting with the lower intensity, you will find that you can then build up to the higher intensity once your teeth and gums are used to the sensation.
There are plenty of great electric toothbrushes out there for kids, but which one should you choose? When you are looking at the different models available on the market, you could think about these features to look out for. If you choose the toothbrush with the best features, then you are more likely to be able to purchase a toothbrush that will last your child for many years.
If you’re a newbie to electric toothbrushes, I’m guessing you’d be just as impressed as I am with this product! I did lots of comparative research, and it seems the reviewers are right to rave about this toothbrush.

Advanced Features — As mentioned earlier, there are a few advanced features you can look for. For instance, there is a Quadpacer, Smart Timer, Bluetooth Connectivity and some brand-specific options from Oral-B.
Except for the brush handle, it comes with two brush heads (compact and standard), a UV sanitizer, travel case with travel caps, a travel charger and color-coded rings for personalizing the brush heads.
