The best budget electric toothbrush is the Pursonic S500. It has a reasonably comfortable handle, though our testers found its powerful vibrations a little rough while brushing. In addition to being one of the cheapest electric toothbrushes, it includes 12 brush heads, which should be enough to last about three years – about as long as you’ll own it. Most other brands are more expensive and only include three or fewer brush heads.
I really appreciated the clear logic of this comparison, but ultimately I decided I couldn’t pay good money for a brush that shuts off automatically after two minutes. As someone who routinely brushes more than two minutes, I just know I would find the shutdown annoying every time it happened. I do favor the ultrasonic over rotating models, so I’m wondering – what is the best ultrasonic toothbrush (for <$100) that does not shut off automatically after two minutes? First, I asked two friends who are dentists what they prefer. One friend strongly recommended the Sonicare FlexCare+, stating that the top of the line models are not any better. The other provided a similar recommendation to my dentist – either one will be a huge improvement over a manual brush. So slight tilt to the Sonicare at this point. Very slight because not much detail was provided as to why the Sonicare was better. Just a “trust me, get this” endorsement. Make a homemade toothpaste. If you prefer to stay away from the array of chemicals found in most store-bought toothpastes, it is possible to make your own plaque-busting natural version, using just a few simple ingredients. Combine 1/2 cup of coconut oil with 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 little packets of stevia powder and 20 drops of your chosen essential oil, such as peppermint or cinnamon. Store your homemade toothpaste in a small glass jar and use just like regular toothpaste. A full-featured, top-of-the-line model. This option comes with multiple intensity settings and an alert to let you know if you are brushing too hard. We particularly love the UV sanitary feature, which helps to kill bacteria between uses The truth is, the dentists we spoke to all agreed that how you brush is more important than what you brush with. Proper brushing technique (and flossing) are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. So it’s certainly possible to clean your teeth effectively with a manual toothbrush, and if you and your dentist are happy with these results, there’s probably no need to switch. But if your pearly whites have room to improve, an electric toothbrush’s oscillating or vibrating battery-powered bristles make it easier to maintain good technique to remove even more plaque. Product - Sonimart Standard Size Replacement Toothbrush Heads for Philips Sonicare ProResults HX6014, 4 pack, fits Essence+, Plaque Control, Gum Health, DiamondClean, FlexCare, HealthyWhite and EasyClean [Actually, if you do the math you'll find that even these low frequency brushes do have stroke rates that lie inside the audible range (although the very bottom of it). But as a matter of convention, they're not classified as sonic toothbrushes.] Sonicare For Kids – These toothbrush heads are to be used with the sonicare for kid’s rechargeable toothbrush. The brush heads are designed to fit better in children’s mouths and as a result, they are smaller than the standard adult toothbrush heads. In addition, these are softer brush heads. If you have particularly soft gums or if you have sensitive teeth, you could even use these brush heads for your own use as the soft bristle ensure a more gentle clean. All Oral-B rechargeable models - A comprehensive review of the features/prices of all of the current Oral-b rechargeable models. Some comparisons between each of the individual toothbrush lines are made.
I’m not a dental hygienist but from what I gather, there is A LOT of memorizing involved and you’re basically becoming a tooth doctor, learning about the science of the tooth along with studies of different cancers that are often seen in different patients… I believe that going full time in dental hygiene in college will be too much to cram in just 2 years which is why I’m considering going for lesser credits a semester and making the goal for 3 years. They say for every hour in a college class, count on having 3 hours of homework! Go for three years because it’ll allow you to take things in a little slower and you’ll be better prepared for your future job!! Go for it!
Tomatoes and strawberries are rich in vitamin C which is excellent for oral health. You can rub these fruits directly onto your teeth and let it sit for 5 minutes. This way the tartar buildup will soften.
Figuring out how or organize school papers is an important task to tackle when your kids start school. If you don’t have an action plan right now, then it’s important to put together a game plan to store these keepsakes. It doesn’t matter if it’s the beginning of the school year, the end of the school year, or […]
The effectiveness of this type of cleansing generally has to do with the amplitude of the brush head (the distance, up or down, it travels on each stroke) and also its frequency (number of strokes per minute). Sonic toothbrushes characteristically are very efficient tooth scrubbers (see below).
The unit fits Sonicare e-series and ProResults brush heads as well as other leading rechargeable brands including Oral B Flexisoft** and Floss Action***. The UV Sanitizer holds up two brush heads at a time. Remember to continue to replace your brush head at least every 3 months to ensure optimal results.
This means that all of the brush heads offered by Sonicare work with almost all of the electric toothbrushes. There are a few odd exceptions, notably older Sonicare toothbrush models that have different attachments, screw on rather than click on).
However, it has to be stated that as much sense as this seems to make, at this point in time it’s only conjecture. There has been no definitive study that has conclusively proven the long-term benefit of using a sonic toothbrush over the effective use of other types of brushes.
Sugars are commonly associated with dental cavities. Other carbohydrates, especially cooked starches, e.g. crisps/potato chips, may also damage teeth, although to a lesser degree (and indirectly) since starch has to be converted to glucose by salivary amylase (an enzyme in the saliva) first. Sugars that are higher in the stickiness index, such as toffee, are likely to cause more damage to teeth than those that are lower in the stickiness index, such as certain forms of chocolate or most fruits.
Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve written before about a certain splurgy Sonicare electric toothbrush (which makes an appearance on this list), an impressive self-cleaning electric toothbrush, and a charcoal toothbrush beloved by The Wing’s Audrey Gelman, here we’re investigating the best electric toothbrushes on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)
Being able to reach 31,000 brush strokes per minute, the Sensonic Professional Plus has earned its place among the big boys. Namely, Philips and Oral-B. In fact, this Waterpik model is about 25% faster than Philips’ Sonicare FlexCare model.
agreed. they left out models that use regular batteries claiming they are “wasteful” which is untrue. i’d much prefer replacing a universal rechargeable AA/AAA eneloop battery and avoid the much more wasteful planned obsolescence of a built-in rechargeable. an added benefit is that i could use the brush while traveling, knowing i can always replace the battery should it die. plus, they are MUCH cheaper. unfortunately, due to lack of comparison reviews, i bought into the proprietary rechargeable scheme.
Fun Features: KidTimer – Increases brushing time slowly over 90 days, building towards the dentist recommended 2 minutes, KidPacer – Fun sounds encourage kids to brush the front and back of both upper and lower teeth
First off, I did a bunch of research for myself to compare OralB vs Sonicare and found that they were mostly comparable, when the user was properly “trained”. The biggest issue I found (and my own non-parent dentist can confirm) was that the small/round head caused more problems for patients, as they didn’t know how to use it “well”. In other words, the small head required different operation than the traditional “long” head style… as confirmed by studies (I can’t find this one at the moment) and my dentist.
Toothbrushing can only clean to a depth of about 1.5 mm inside the gingival pockets, but a sustained regime of plaque removal above the gum line can affect the ecology of the microbes below the gums and may reduce the number of pathogens in pockets up to 5 mm in depth.
In our days, leading classifications of electric toothbrushes are based on the design and mechanism of their brush head action. On one hand, we have the oscillating toothbrush. In this case, the head spins around the tooth in one direction or the other in a rotary-like movement. On the other hand, there is the sonic toothbrush, which produces high vibrations from side-to-side.
Omega 3 fatty acids are fats commonly found in marine and plant oils. They are considered essential fatty acids, meaning that they cannot be synthesized in the body but are vital for healthy metabolism. They are thought to play an important role in reducing inflammation throughout the body.
The Philips Sonicare 2 Series is one of the least expensive brushes in Sonicare’s line, but still has a two-minute timer, rechargeable battery, and makes less noise than our Oral-B pick. This pick has a smaller range of brush textures and shapes, but they are all soft and serviceable.
Never before have dental hygienists had such a wealth of opportunities for their schooling and careers. Gone are the old stereotypes of a hygienist confined solely to a traditional clinical practice. Today’s dental hygienist is found everywhere from the classroom to the corporate office. Here’s how to become a dental hygienist.
The war on battery life is important because there are still some big gaps between leading manufacturers. There are certain toothbrushes that take 24 hours to charge fully, while others take 12 hours. Once fully charged some devices can last up to six weeks when used twice a day. In comparison, there are still devices that will not last half of that time.

“If you don’t have that bacteria, that’s when opportunist microorganisms like yeast and fungi take over,” Dr. Kahn says. “You want a certain amount of natural bacteria in your mouth (just not around the teeth or gum tissue).” Instead of trying to sterilize your toothbrush, make a habit of replacing it regularly, she says.
For those who have sensitive teeth, we recommend the Oral-B 1000. Unlike its sonic counterparts, the Oral-B 1000 provides around 8,000 strokes per minute, meaning you won’t feel as much of a tickling sensation on your teeth. This sensation can be very uncomfortable to some, which makes the Oral-B an excellent choice. The Oral-B 1000’s bare-bones approach to features allows you to just focus on improving your dental care. In addition to our must-have two-minute timer, this $30 pick simply offers a quad-pacer to ensure an even brush for all your teeth. We like this minimal approach, because it shifts your attention to what matters most: proper brushing technique. The Oral-B 1000 is also compatible with a variety of different brushing heads for your personal comfort needs.
What a good recipe – natural and easily affordable! It’s a very good way to use your toothbrush longer. Is it a good idea to add lemon juice or vodka? They are also used for disinfection. Thank you for sharing this useful information with us! Greets!
You may not have toddlers toting your toothbrush around the house, but with Autumn just around the corner, there’s a chance you’ll need to disinfect your toothbrush. Perhaps you’ll catch a cold or virus right after you pull out a new toothbrush. Maybe you’ll just want to disinfect a toothbrush while your sick. Whatever the reason, here are a few ways to disinfect a toothbrush that may come in handy.
Canucks – I wanted to reply to you real quick too. That’s an interesting model. I have never tried an Essence +. I will say that the 2 Series is also much quieter than the DiamondClean and FlexCare I own. You can use it not far from people sleeping and it does not awake them.
The best way to do that is by flossing every day before going to bed or anytime you feel uncomfortable – especially after eating meat. Flossing should be completed by a rinse with mouthwash or using the jet from the oral irrigator.
