This is some of the worst advice I have ever seen! Just curious…..do you have a degree in dentistry?? Using baking soda on a regular basis is very abrasive on the teeth which in turn can cause erosion to the enamel and sensitivity. Rubbing citrus fruits on teeth? Are you kidding me? The acid from the citrus can cause erosion on the teeth, which in turn causes sensitivity, in some cases sensitivity bad enough to the point that restorative dentistry needs to be done. We see it all the time with people that suck on lemons! And suggesting using a “dental pic” as you call it…it’s called a scaler; should NEVER be done by anyone other than a hygienist or dentist. You can cause damage to the gum tissue if you don’t know what you’re doing. Stupid advice! All of it is nonsense! Don’t do any of these things! Get the tarter/calculus removed by a professional!
Single-tufted brushes are a tool in conjunction with tooth brushing. The tooth brush is designed to reach the ‘hard to reach places’ within the mouth. This tool is best used behind the lower front teeth, behind the back molars, crooked teeth and between spaces where teeth have been removed. The single- tufted brush design has an angled handle, a 4mm diameter and rounded bristle tips.

Use boiling water. If you dip your toothbrush or toothbrush head into boiling water for 5 to 10 seconds, it will effectively sanitize the bristles. This is an especially important way to get rid of illness like strep, boiling your toothbrush will help you get better faster.
As a high school student, however, I still have a couple of concerns. Would it be a good idea to go to dental school and enter this field if you’ve never liked math? How math heavy or not math heavy would the courses be? Also, what is the job satisfaction for most dental hygienists? (I can imagine working in people’s mouths isn’t always exactly what one might consider to be glamorous!)

As with most of the toothbrush models we tested, the battery life indicator on the Pro 1000 is vague: It lets you know when the battery is full (a continuous green light for five seconds after you remove it from the charging base) and when it is “low” (a red flashing light after turning the brush off). Oral-B does not specify how long it takes to get the brush to a full charge, but you can charge it every day without significantly affecting the battery’s capacity as long as you deplete it fully once every six months.
The TAO Clean Aura Clean Base Station uses powerful Ultraviolet-C rays to kill 99.9% of germs while your toothbrush is not in use. It also protects, dries, charges it, and takes up minimal space on your bathroom counter
On the other end of the spectrum, dental hygienists in Kansas have a much broader list of allowable job duties, with most functions permitted to be performed under the general supervision of a licensed dentist. The only function that needs to be completed under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in Kansas is the administration of local anesthesia, and the only function not allowed to be performed is the placement of sutures.
In order to begin a dental hygiene associate’s degree program, students are usually required to complete a certain number of prerequisite courses with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The topics can range from science to communications:
Noise level – you will find that some of the newer models from Sonicare have quieter noise levels by the older models. These include the diamond clean and flex Platinum. If you do not mind a little bit of noise, you will be able to save some money and purchase a slightly older model.
For example, have you ever hit an object with a baseball bat, or a hammer, and had it be surprisingly painful when the impulse was transmitted back to your hand through the handle? In a case like that, the movement in the handle is almost nothing but its particular frequency and amplitude is enough to transmit energy effectively. Tool manufacturers go to some effort to diminish these feedbacks.
Philips Sonicare 3 Series Gum Health feels and works very similarly to the 2 Series, with a glossy plastic handle and minimal gripping ridges. Now that our runner-up comes with a quadrant timer, this toothbrush has no features that we think are worth spending extra on.
I don’t remember that movie but that’s pretty funny. I really don’t know about the acidity and your tooth enamel. I would think that the flavor would not be appealing, though, to brush with. Do you rinse it before brushing? I think if you’re rinsing that would be ok. I’ve also heard about acidic foods and enamel erosion so it might be not be the best idea to brush with a vinegar sprayed brush. That’s just my opinion if it’s something you’re concerned about.
Canucks – I wanted to reply to you real quick too. That’s an interesting model. I have never tried an Essence +. I will say that the 2 Series is also much quieter than the DiamondClean and FlexCare I own. You can use it not far from people sleeping and it does not awake them.
2005 – PA 161 Dental hygienist: hygienists with grantee status can work in a public or nonprofit environment, a school or nursing home that administers dental care to a low-income population. Dentists collaborating with dental hygienists do not need to be present to authorize or administer treatment. However, dental hygienists must have the availability to communicate with a dentist in order to review patient records and establish emergency protocols. Hygienists need to apply to the state department of community health for grantee status.
My current sonicare died and I was very confused about the differences between the many, many models. Your excellent review helped me make up my mind as to a replacement. After perusing ebay (be careful about “used!”) I’ve ordered a replacement that was a good bit less expensive than the price quoted in your article. Thanks again!
The Dental Hygienist Course in India is a full-time 2-year diploma course. The Dental Hygienist course is regulated and controlled by the Dental Council of India. This discussion however relates how two Sonicare publications reported that two different models whitened teeth to the same degree, yet at that point in time when the separate studies were done, only one of the brushes actually featured a fancy whitening mode. The other just the standard 31,000 stroke/min mode.
For the purpose of our reviews, we have considered the average toothbrush user who is motivated enough to brush his or her teeth twice a day for two minutes. Also, check out our top toothbrushes for people with braces, where we use slightly different criteria to define “best”.
Why: The DiamondClean Smart has some handy sidekicks—its connected app and smart sensor suite. It keeps track of where you brush, where you miss, and where you need to pay more attention. normally, you soak in vinegar to disinfect, then use baking soda to turn it into water after it has been disinfected.. then the water can evaporate nicely and leaves no vinegar smell. awesome for furniture. i wouldn’t do it on my toothbrush.
Even so, the Sonicare is still engaging. The app comes with an interactive character named Sparkly and our tester’s parent “liked that it showed a teeth simulation my daughter could see while she brushed.” The Sonicare also managed to get our young tester excited about brushing her teeth the next morning. Her parent summed it up nicely: “I would recommend the Sonicare. It was just easier to use.”
Even the extra soft bristles in Sonicare brush heads must maintain a certain stiffness to effectively remove plaque. Studies show that bristles begin to lose their stiffness due to splay and fatigue after three months of normal use though, these changes are only visible with a microscope.

Clean your toothbrush holder once a week. Bacteria that accumulates on the toothbrush holder can be transmitted to the brush, and then to your mouth. It is particularly important to clean your holder regularly if it has a closed bottom, like a cup.
Keep reading for some handy hints and tips on avoiding plaque build ups altogether. This is the single best way to approach the problem, because prevention is always cheaper than the cure when it comes to dentistry. If you can stop plaque and tartar from building up in the first place, you have a much better chance of keeping all of your teeth healthy.
Do not share toothbrushes. Sharing a toothbrush could result in an exchange of body fluids and/or microorganisms between the users of the toothbrush, placing the individuals involved at an increased risk for infections. This practice could be a particular concern for persons with compromised immune systems or existing infectious diseases.

2. Related to item one above, the brushes are very difficult to remove from the toothbrush itself. I struggled to get mine out, and my wife couldn’t do it. So even if you wanted to go through the trouble of swapping the brushes, you’d have a difficult time doing so. It’s a good thing that I won’t have to do that but every three months or so.

Cleaning your teeth properly twice a day for 2 minutes each time is the most important part here. The reality is each brush head can just give that extra bit of focus in achieving and assisting oral health care goals.
The Sonicare does not “oscillate,” it merely vibrates. “Sonic Pulverization” feels great, but we were unable to find any scientific evidence that backs its efficacy. Every clinical study says that the Oral B is better when it comes to cleaning your mouth.
