There have been studies done that small amounts of germs become airborne from the toilet whenever it is flushed. Due to this knowledge some people store their toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible. Really it only needs to be 2-3 feet away from the mouth of the toilet bowel, and even then it is not proven that the trace amounts of germs collected on the toothbrush will adversely affect one’s health at all. Just to be sure, I would discourage storing toothbrushes on the toilet tank.

I sold my DiamondClean and now using two Essence+. While material of DiamondClean (ceramic paint) is nice, as long as it gives same cleaning I could care less. I also love travelling with inexpensive full powered electric toothbrush than DiamondClean.

I store it in a plastic open container in a drawer so it is not upright and it is dark and now I see that bacteria can live 2 weeks in the dark and I live in a very humid area so very well could have been my toothbrush!!! I’m not a dental hygienist but from what I gather, there is A LOT of memorizing involved and you’re basically becoming a tooth doctor, learning about the science of the tooth along with studies of different cancers that are often seen in different patients… I believe that going full time in dental hygiene in college will be too much to cram in just 2 years which is why I’m considering going for lesser credits a semester and making the goal for 3 years. They say for every hour in a college class, count on having 3 hours of homework! Go for three years because it’ll allow you to take things in a little slower and you’ll be better prepared for your future job!! Go for it!
Strawberries and tomatoes have good quantities of vitamin C which is excellent for oral health. Rub these fruits directly onto your teeth and let sit for 5 minutes, this will soften any tartar build-up. Tracy, I was thinking the same thing. Scalers are not for the patient to use at home to remove tartar. You can break a tooth, especially one of the thinner anteriors. Even a chipped corner can change a person’s appearance when it’s a front tooth. Never mind the pain and sensitivity that might be involved. Not worth the chance to do at home. Might have been well intended, but bad advice.
The closest resemblance of a modern toothbrush was built around 700 AD by the Tang Dynasty in China. It was not the Tang Dynasty that sat there inventing a method to brush their teeth, it simply occurred during the years of their rule. The handle of the brush was made from bamboo, or in some cases animal bone and it was around 5 inches long. The head of the brush, where we are used to having bristle, was formed of hog hairs. Whether it was pig, warthog, groundhog, or hedgehog, I cannot say. It just makes me question the ancient levels of hygiene all over again!
As for studies, the NIH did many… so I’m not sure where you go and say there weren’t any independent ones.
