The battery in the Oral-B Healthy Clean + Pro White Precision 4000 lasts about three days longer than that of the Pro 1000, and the base is a bit chunkier than our pick’s. The brush has four cleaning modes (programmed to a separate button) and includes a pressure sensor, though to activate it you have to really cram the brush into your teeth, making it ineffective. The additional cleaning modes are extraneous, so there’s no reason to pay for them.
In doing this review, did you come across the Ultreo line of toothbrushes? I used to use them back in 2007 or so, but the company went out of business in 2009. I recently came across it again, so it looks like it may have been revived. May be worth looking into it.
Tooth decay (cavities) is a common problem for people of all ages. For children, untreated cavities can cause pain, absence from school, difficulty concentrating on learning, and poor appearance, all problems that greatly affect quality of life and ability to succeed. Children from lower income families often do not receive timely treatment for tooth decay and are more likely to suffer from these problems. Tooth decay also is a problem for many adults. Adults of some racial and ethnic groups experience more untreated decay.
This can be a very strange experience, because the dentist moves in close and uses a special scraping instrument to, literally, force the plaque from the teeth. They tend to focus particularly hard on areas where the tarter has begun to form calcified spots. These can be seen a little white or yellow marks on the outer surface of the enamel.
Once tartar has formed, only a dental professional will be able to remove it from your teeth. So, visit your dentist every 6 months to remove any plaque and tartar that might have formed and to prevent further problems.
Dental hygienists can become members of the New Zealand Dental Hygienists’ Association.[28] The association was founded in 1993,[29] and is affiliated with the International Federation of Dental Hygienists.[30]

Working side-by-side with a dentist, your main concern will be preventative oral health care, cleaning patients’ teeth and educating them about caring for their teeth and gums. You’ll provide advice for the use of the best oral care equipment, and you’ll use a variety of tools to clean and polish teeth, including scrapers, ultrasonic, power and laser devices. You’ll also take and develop X-rays and document your patient’s treatment and new and ongoing issues.
The American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) defines dental hygienists as oral health professionals who are responsible for preventing and treating oral diseases. Regardless of the state in which they practice, dental hygienists must be state licensed, which requires graduating from a college or university dental hygienist program and passing a written national board examination and state clinical examination.
This article is remiss in not dealing with the huge issue of replacing batteries. The built-in obsolescence in all these brushes is both an environmental evil and an economic abuse. Imagine if a few torch manufacturers managed to corner the market, form an oligopoly and start making torches which you had to throw away once the battery died. That’s what we have here with this lot.
The Philips Sonicare 2 Series is our top pick for its minimalist design and comfortable cleaning power. It comes with one brushing mode, a two-minute timer, and a quad-pacer to guide you as you brush with 40,000 strokes per minute. At $40, it doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but we appreciated the simple design, because nothing felt unnecessary. Competitors like the Brio came with additional brushing modes, but our testers reported that the experience wasn’t much different and our experts reinforced that an electric toothbrush with the right technique will do more than any brushing mode can.
If you have any questions or concerns whatsoever about the health of your teeth, you need to take them to the one person who is perfectly poised to provide an answer or a solution. Your dentist is there to give you as much advice as you need, whether it is about treatments, pain relief, dealing with cavities, or pressing ahead with things like braces and dentures.
It is worth noting that our previous pick, named the Oral-B Pro 1000 (also known in some contexts as the Healthy Clean Precision 1000), is still available and is functionally identical to the current Pro 1000. At the time of our last review, the Healthy Clean Precision 1000 included one of the pressure sensors we mentioned earlier, but despite what the Amazon listing says, the model we tested did not include it. The Healthy Clean Precision, therefore, is essentially the same toothbrush; it just comes in a different color and with a different brush head. Online pricing can be fluid and seems to be influenced by the popularity of an item, so get the one you can find cheaper.
Of course, the big question is, how well does it clean teeth? Very well apparently! My teeth were noticeably whiter after 1 week using only the standard cross action head. I will likely try the whitening head at some point in accordance with the whitening program in the app. The brush head has visible movement, in contrast with the Sonicare which has more movements, but they are smaller movements, and only linear movements.
The Sonicare 2 Series isn’t without perks, though. When you first start using it, the Sonicare starts off with lower vibrations in order to ease you through the adjustment experience. Our tester appreciated this and told us “the fact that it gently eases into cleaning at full force over 14 sessions makes the experience feel more thoughtful.” We agree, and appreciate that the Sonicare focuses on getting you more comfortable with a proper brushing experience.

It was General Electric (GE) who first managed to improve the concept of the motor powered brush. They did so by introducing the first rechargeable and cordless toothbrush to the market in 1961. You no longer had to be attached to the electrical outlet and calmly wait to be electrocuted.
However, if you prefer a larger brush, the Deep Sweep has performed favorably to Sonicare brushes in clinical studies: http://www.dentalcare.com/media/en-US/research_db/pdf/products/8week-eval-benefits-multidirectional.pdf
Arteries are a critical blood vessel in circulation. These are the large blood vessels that send oxygenated blood from the heart and lungs out to the rest of the body. Due to unhealthy diet, age and lack of exercise, plaque can accumulate on the walls of the arteries and ultimately lead to heart attacks and strokes. Most often, doctors use medical treatments to reduce plaque when it is severe. The good news is you can take steps to cut down on plaque naturally before you get to that point.
Foreo’s products are easily distinguished by their vibrant colors. Their Issa toothbrush makes no exception. Available in vivacious lavender, bright yellow, cobalt blue, dark blue and black colors, this toothbrush will beautify any bathroom cabinet.
I highly don’t recommend leaving acids on teeth, however, Vitamin C on the teeth (and in general) can do wonders so you can use the sodium ascorbate (not ascorbic acid) form of vitamin C on your teeth. When making a glass of a gram or two with water, I sometimes swish it all around for a minute or so, a few separate times, before swallowing.
You want to eliminate those deep pockets, so brushing with this really helps but add the flosser or floss or use whatever the dentist recommends but do it. You will remove the plaque (bacteria buildup) and the tartar that irritates the margins of the gums and help prevent bad problems down the road.
Spend about $70, and your brush comes with a travel case and a few extra cleaning modes, which vibrate the brush at different patterns or frequencies. These brushes also tend to move at a higher frequency, to the tune of 30,000 to 40,000 movements per minute, as opposed to a lower-end brush’s 8,000 to 20,000 movements per minute. There isn’t a proven difference in effectiveness between faster and slower brush movements in existing independent research. We found only one small, old, imperfect study that compared brushes with 2,100, 2,500, and 3,500 brushstrokes per minute and found that the middle frequency was the most effective at removing plaque (“at most 1.5 times better” than the other frequencies and yielded “about 50 percent fewer plaque sites” than the highest frequency). Respondents also said it was the most comfortable frequency. However, there were only 10 participants, they brushed under supervision only some of the time, and they used each toothbrush for only three days.
Fun Features: KidTimer – Increases brushing time slowly over 90 days, building towards the dentist recommended 2 minutes, KidPacer – Fun sounds encourage kids to brush the front and back of both upper and lower teeth
– Useful Smartphone App: I honestly thought the app would be gimmicky, but I was completely wrong. I build software products for a living and I can tell Philips has invested significant resources into building a truly useful mobile app. It blows my mind how well the accelerometers and pressure sensors work and the useful information that it relays to improve your brushing form and tell you where you missed a spot. Brushing too hard is a real issue with electric toothbrushes since in extreme cases, it could wear your gums down, this toothbrush tells you if you are doing it too hard so you don’t have to worry! You don’t need to use the app for this though, the toothbrush has a light at the bottom that tells you if you are applying too much pressure.
Oral-B Electric Toothbrush Tips It’s important to take care of your electric toothbrush to make sure you get your best clean with every brush. Here are some tips on how to clean and take care of your electric toothbrush to keep your smile at its healthiest. How to Clean Your Electric ToothbrushBecause one of the main purposes of a toothbrush is to remove bacteria from your mouth, it’s important to keep your toothbrush sanitary and free of bacteria.Keep these tips in mind to keep your electric toothbrush clean and safe:
They are quite unsightly and can spoil a lovely smile, so cleaning is a really useful thing for patients. It cannot, of course, be a substitute for regular brushing and flossing. If you want your teeth to stay healthy (and in your mouth), you need to clean properly, avoid eating too much sugar, and be on friendly terms with your local dental specialist.
Proper tooth brushing is critically important to good dental hygiene. Parents can help their children practice proper tooth brushing by starting to clean teeth early, using the right amount of fluoride toothpaste, supervising tooth brushing, and talking to a pediatrician or dentist about a child’s specific fluoride needs. More information on caring for children’s teeth may be found at CDC’s Brush Up on Healthy Teeth pages.
That being said, I’m replacing it, and I may be switching to a Sonicare with some of those unnecessary features simply because I have certain issues that weren’t addressed. We have really hard water where I live. My brush is permanently discolored. I can’t remove the buildup from parts of it or the charging base. This stuff can’t be good for my teeth. I don’t want to buy a container for a five-year-old toothbrush that’s already caked with calcium and limescale.

Sucrose is used by Streptococcus mutans bacteria to produce biofilm. The sucrose is split by glucansucrase, which allows the bacteria to use the resulting glucose for building glucan polymer film and the resulting fructose as fuel to be converted to lactic acid.
Two-minute timer: The single most recommended feature, a two-minute timer takes the guesswork out of your brushing sessions to ensure your teeth get enough time under the bristles. Brushing under the American Dental Association’s recommended two minutes can result in a less effective clean. Dr. Lawlor told us, “patients say they brush for three to five minutes, but when they brush in front of me it will be less than a minute.” Most electric toothbrushes now offer this reality-check timer as a standard feature, regardless of price.
In addition, I tried the generic Oral-B replacement brushes a few years ago and they were TERRIBLE. At least one fell apart as I was using it, and my cheek got caught in the little hole in the back of another. Not sure if the replacements have gotten better since then, but it’s made me reluctant to try.
W3 Premium White (introduced with DiamondClean Smart) – Helps whiten teeth in just 3 days by removing plaque and surface stains. 4 times more surface contact. Automatically selects optimal cleaning mode for the best results. (Compatible brush required)
To us, battery isn’t an insignificant consideration. But if a particular model met our needs in all other ways, we’d let this one slip by. This page discusses the subject of battery options in greater detail.
Interactive phone screens show you when to change quadrants and how long to brush and record your progress and daily discipline. If you use the wrong motion, the head sends a message to the app “use less motion.”
I am very pleased with Philips Sonicare UV Sanitizer. I have used a Germ Terminator for several years but the sanitizer is much easier to use and takes up less space. I feel that the germs usually on a toothbrush can extend the time of illness but when you sanitize your toothbrush every time you use it, you are not re-infecting yourself. I would recommend it.
These are advertised as soft bristled, but are extremely hard bristled. I do not brush my teeth hard whatsover, and this made my gum bleed after one brushing session. I reached out to Amazon about the issue and they initiated a refund. I also advised that they may want to alter the description of the item as it is fairly misleading.
I’m in 8th grade and I know its very early to be choosing my career but I thought being a hygienist would be really fun and not too much college plus I love going to get my teeth cleaned. it seems like I would have enough to support myself and later in life a family and like I said I know its real early to figure out but I’m wondering if is a good choice or not?
Prevent Gingivitis. Sonic toothbrushes effectively fight gingivitis. In clinical studies, these brushes have shown a big reduction of it after the patient was using it for 4 weeks. The results were also twice the amount than with a manual toothbrush.
The best way to do that is by flossing every day before going to bed or anytime you feel uncomfortable – especially after eating meat. Flossing should be completed by a rinse with mouthwash or using the jet from the oral irrigator.
We agree that the Sensonic is a good brush, hence we have included it on this page. But we’ve given it a lesser positioning because this page is specifically about Sonicare toothbrushes and ciphering through their line up.

Although bachelor’s degree programs for dental hygienists are less common than an associate’s degree program, you can find some that will prepare you for a career outside—as well as inside—the dental office. Pursuing a 4-year degree in dental hygiene studies is particularly useful if you plan to teach, participate in research or work in clinical practice in public or school health programs. Some dentists also prefer to hire hygienists with a bachelor’s degree.
The 4.8-ounce toothbrush comes with a 17-ounce charging glass and a 6-ounce travel charging case – a fair amount to bring with you in a suitcase. We liked the sensors on the brush that let you know when you’re brushing too hard, and spots you’ve missed. A good tool for a bad brusher.
Sonic toothbrushes have longer heads that resemble traditional toothbrushes and vibrate up to 40,000 strokes per minute. Dr. Glassman told us they also incorporate “fluid dynamics which is a secondary cleaning action that extends the brush’s reach.” Translation? A sonic toothbrush’s scrubbing can reach farther than its oscillating counterpart’s (even if it does tickle a bit on the way).

Single-tufted brushes are a tool in conjunction with tooth brushing.[37] The tooth brush is designed to reach the ‘hard to reach places’ within the mouth. This tool is best used behind the lower front teeth, behind the back molars, crooked teeth and between spaces where teeth have been removed.[38] The single- tufted brush design has an angled handle, a 4mm diameter and rounded bristle tips.[38]
Dental hygienists have the option of working full-or part-time, so your schedule may have some flexibility to it. Unlike some other careers, dental hygienists also generally don’t have to work nights, weekends or holidays.
The Dazzlepro Advanced Sonic’s handle is a little large and unwieldy, a satiny plastic tapered toward the middle of the handle, and the charging base is hefty, but this brush does a reasonable approximation of the Sonicare brushes’ motion. The Dazzlepro brush has a separate “sensitive” cleaning mode. However, the company has a lower profile, and the warranty lasts only one year (compared with Sonicare and Oral-B’s two years), so if you need support you may be left wanting. This brush is currently unavailable on Amazon and Overstock.
Standing at bed and bath because my old sonicare died and so did he one my friend gave me so I could use up my old brush heads and I was overwhelmed by too many choices!! You helped me make up my mind so quickly and I really appreciate it. Healthy white for me!!!
Diabetes, or elevated circulating blood sugar, is also a major culprit. Even people who have elevated sugars not yet at the level of diabetes, such as seen in metabolic syndrome, also have increased risk of plaque formation.
